Newsnight is getting under way on BBC Two. From me a very good night

BBC Two. From me a very good night to you. Our memories of the

heatwave will be blown away by the wind over the next day or so. It

will feel chilly as well. The cold air coming in behind this cold

front which brought sharp bursts of rain this evening. We will see

bands of rain pushing down towards the south-east. It will take all

night to clear Kent. Elsewhere, dryer for a time, heavy showers

rattling into the north and west on that gusty wind. It will feel

chilly out there particularly over northern areas. Tomorrow, it will

feel chilly. There will be blustery showers around. Initially, the

showers will be across the northern and western parts of the UK, it

means a largely bright and breezy start south and east. The showers

will be blown on that wind. Some of us will see an awful lot more than

a shower or two particularly the further north and west you go. The

showers will give prolonged rain across western Scotland and

Northern Ireland. Snow for the mountain tops and some very gusty

winds, up to 60mph Guss around the Irish Sea coasts. These showers

will extend further southwards. They will blow through quickly on

the breeze. Temperatures 14, 15 will be typical. Cold and windy

tomorrow night with further showers crossing the country on Friday,

fewer showers more sunshine and lighter winds. Temperatures on the

low side. The weekend, high pressure nudging in from the South

West but failing as the fronts topple in and move across the UK

during the course of Saturday. After a cold start it will turn

cloudy with wet weather into many northern parts of the country. On

Sunday, there is a little bit of uncertainty it looks as if the

fronts will move southwards. Period of rain further south. It could
