That's all from the BBC News at 6, so it's goodbye from me, | :00:00. | :00:00.
It's nearly 6:30, you're watching East Midlands Today. | :00:00. | :00:09.
Tonight - fears that the proposed takeover of a struggling hospital | :00:10. | :00:12.
It's after senior bosses from Nottingham working with | :00:13. | :00:17.
Kings Mill and Newark hospital step down. | :00:18. | :00:20.
Please get this sorted as soon as possible so that residents | :00:21. | :00:23.
here can have confidence there is a long-term | :00:24. | :00:25.
sustainable future for our health care. | :00:26. | :00:29.
Also tonight, murdered by his | :00:30. | :00:32.
girlfriend, a victim of male domestic abuse. | :00:33. | :00:35.
It never occured to me that she had that sort of maliciousness. | :00:36. | :00:42.
Plus fears by hunt monitors of violent confrontations | :00:43. | :00:47.
And pumpkin power, how warm autumn weather has created | :00:48. | :00:54.
a bumper crop at one Nottinghamshire farm. | :00:55. | :01:14.
Welcome to Friday's programme with Anne Davies | :01:15. | :01:15.
First tonight - It's already been delayed. | :01:16. | :01:18.
There are concerns tonight that the controversial takeover | :01:19. | :01:22.
of a struggling hospital trtst won't now happen. | :01:23. | :01:26.
Senior bosses from Nottingh`m's NHS hospitals announced today they're | :01:27. | :01:29.
to stop working at the troubled Sherwood Forest hospitals trust | :01:30. | :01:34.
It's so they can focus on t`ckling pressures in their own organisation. | :01:35. | :01:38.
A Nottinghamshire MP says hd's worried the ambitious takeover | :01:39. | :01:41.
Let's ask our health correspondent Rob Sissons who's | :01:42. | :01:45.
Behind the scenes there is ` lot of frustration over the delay. That | :01:46. | :02:04.
takeover should have been sorted out by next month but it is now going to | :02:05. | :02:09.
be well into next year before that we learn whether it will happen | :02:10. | :02:14.
Those key managers you menthoned is, the chief executive and the chief | :02:15. | :02:19.
nurse and the chairmen have been doing two jobs to here in Nottingham | :02:20. | :02:24.
and up the road in Ashford. They have their work cut out no Hugh in | :02:25. | :02:29.
Nottingham. This is the acchdent and emergency unit where they h`ve been | :02:30. | :02:37.
struggling to meet waiting times. Winter is round the corner so they | :02:38. | :02:38.
want to focus on that right now What's been the reaction | :02:39. | :02:40.
to tonight's news? I have been talking to a | :02:41. | :02:47.
Nottinghamshire MP who is anxious that the takeover should happen The | :02:48. | :02:52.
King's Mill Hospital is ratdd as inadequate and needs a good trust | :02:53. | :02:57.
like this to take it over and he says and he is taking at face value | :02:58. | :03:01.
for know what the NHS bosses have said to him. The messages wd have | :03:02. | :03:08.
had today are positive. Thex are saying they are still committed to | :03:09. | :03:12.
the merger happening. I havd spoken to the Health Secretary and he said | :03:13. | :03:18.
the same. We have been throtgh some difficult years when public | :03:19. | :03:23.
confidence in our local NHS has been very poor due to the reports and the | :03:24. | :03:27.
terrible finances and the wdights in accident and emergency in Nottingham | :03:28. | :03:31.
and Kingsmill. We really nedd to seek action. | :03:32. | :03:32.
Where does this leave King's Mill and Newark hospitals ? | :03:33. | :03:39.
With a lot of uncertainty for the people who work fair and at the | :03:40. | :03:47.
trust in Nottingham. It is very difficult to recruit people for | :03:48. | :03:50.
King's Mill Hospital, they `re very dedicated but there is not dnough of | :03:51. | :03:55.
them. It is a huge reliance on agency staff which means th`t is a | :03:56. | :04:02.
lack of continuity. In the forthcoming Care Quality Colmission | :04:03. | :04:04.
report we are told there should be improvements. We have made | :04:05. | :04:08.
significant improvements in the last 12 months and we hope that will be | :04:09. | :04:13.
reflected in a positive report which we expect from their care commission | :04:14. | :04:18.
in the next few weeks. That has been led by their leadership teal at a | :04:19. | :04:23.
sherbet. That leadership te`m will continue to drive forward these | :04:24. | :04:27.
improvements and build on them. -- Sherwood. | :04:28. | :04:29.
What do you think is the significance of todays news | :04:30. | :04:34.
It is clear Nottingham have a lot on their plate but some of this might | :04:35. | :04:42.
be the ritual dance of the goods station. Nottingham have ond chance | :04:43. | :04:46.
to secure a good deal and a good financial package, they say if it is | :04:47. | :04:51.
not right they will walk aw`y. Thank you very much indeed. | :04:52. | :04:52.
Next - domestic violence against men by their partners. | :04:53. | :04:55.
Over the last four years more and more men in our region | :04:56. | :04:58.
have been reporting abuse to the police - | :04:59. | :05:00.
a total of nearly nine thousand complaints. | :05:01. | :05:02.
Tomorrow an event is to be held in Leicester to increase aw`reness | :05:03. | :05:05.
of the issue and raise monex to support those affected. | :05:06. | :05:07.
Among the speakers will be Sara Westle, from Leicestershire, | :05:08. | :05:09.
whose son was murdered by his partner. | :05:10. | :05:11.
Four years ago Sarah Wessel's life fell apart after her son was | :05:12. | :05:29.
murdered by the woman he loved. It never occurred to me that she had | :05:30. | :05:40.
that sort of maliciousness. Evilness in her. It just turns your life into | :05:41. | :05:46.
complete turmoil and upside down. The heartache that you carrx is just | :05:47. | :05:55.
horrendous. Eddie was stabbdd 2 times by his partner after the court | :05:56. | :05:59.
case in 2013 she was jailed for life. The story of Eddie is not just | :06:00. | :06:06.
a tragic one off. In the East Midlands over the last four years, | :06:07. | :06:11.
the number of men reporting partner abuse to police has increasdd | :06:12. | :06:17.
steadily from around 1620 12 up to 2700 last year. I think it hs | :06:18. | :06:23.
encouraging because it means the police are being more aware of | :06:24. | :06:29.
domestic abuse and also are better at giving a good reception to men | :06:30. | :06:35.
who do come forward. Also wd are finding that members of the public, | :06:36. | :06:40.
friends and colleagues are `lso supporting men and encouraghng them | :06:41. | :06:45.
to get help. This video madd by a Leicester film-maker illustrates how | :06:46. | :06:52.
cases of domestic abuse can be misjudged due to gender stereotypes. | :06:53. | :06:59.
Personally I cannot imagine being effects, let alone the victhm who | :07:00. | :07:03.
does not have the support they need and perhaps feels they cannot speak | :07:04. | :07:08.
out because they will be latghed at. That is why I have organised this | :07:09. | :07:10.
That is why I have organised this event. | :07:11. | :07:23.
The Canadian-owned company Bombardier, which has its train | :07:24. | :07:24.
making operation in Derby, is to cut another 7,500 jobs | :07:25. | :07:33.
The firm says it is confident no more jobs have to go for now as | :07:34. | :07:40.
production is showing signs of growth. | :07:41. | :07:43.
The Canadian-owned company Bombardier, which has its train | :07:44. | :07:46.
making operation in Derby, is to cut another 7,500 jobs | :07:47. | :07:48.
There are 1600 workers at the Derby site. | :07:49. | :07:51.
But the RMT union has told BBC East Midlands Today that thd company | :07:52. | :07:59.
has said staff in Derby will NOT be affected by the cuts. | :08:00. | :08:03.
A spokesman for Bombardier said no formal announcement had been made | :08:04. | :08:05.
Still to come, we talk to the boss of clothing firm which is t`king | :08:06. | :08:18.
over Derbyshire school. Also tonight, Georgian library which has | :08:19. | :08:24.
been added to historic England's at risk register. | :08:25. | :08:31.
Animal welfare investigators say they fear a member of the ptblic | :08:32. | :08:33.
could be injured for innocently taking photos due to heightdned | :08:34. | :08:37.
The warning comes as police investigate a violent confrontation | :08:38. | :08:43.
in Leicestershire which saw one man taken to hospital with brokdn bones | :08:44. | :08:46.
It was the last day of the traditional fox hunting season and | :08:47. | :08:54.
I am just body-camming injuries to his | :08:55. | :08:59.
head, the left-hand side, hd has received a blow and he is bleeding. | :09:00. | :09:03.
Cameras from the BBC's Inside Out programme | :09:04. | :09:05.
captured the aftermath of | :09:06. | :09:06.
a violent confrontation involving two investigators | :09:07. | :09:13.
The former police officer s`id because of his neck injury, | :09:14. | :09:27.
specialist equipment had to be brought in to rescue him. | :09:28. | :09:29.
We have seen nasty footage of saboteurs being assaulted | :09:30. | :09:31.
We operate differently from the saboteurs, it is otr job | :09:32. | :09:37.
to watch what the hunt is doing it is not | :09:38. | :09:40.
For the first time the leagte allowed cameras to | :09:41. | :09:45.
follow its investigators over hunting season. | :09:46. | :09:50.
Since 2005 it has been illegal to hunt mammals, | :09:51. | :09:52.
We have done about 25 hunts this year. | :09:53. | :10:08.
We have to put in a huge amount of resources. | :10:09. | :10:15.
The league says there were three cases of suspectdd | :10:16. | :10:18.
Opponents such as the Countryside Alliance said | :10:19. | :10:29.
the investigation is disproportionate and a wastd of | :10:30. | :10:31.
This summer Darryl and Roger return to the spot | :10:32. | :10:37.
People are here all the time taking pictures. | :10:38. | :10:42.
Some perfectly innocent person could get | :10:43. | :10:46.
Two men remain on bail in relation to the | :10:47. | :10:52.
injuries suffered by Darryl and Roger. | :10:53. | :10:55.
And you can see Simon's full report on Inside Out here on BBC One, | :10:56. | :11:02.
Next, the boss of a clothing firm that's taken over | :11:03. | :11:07.
a school in Derbyshire, says he hopes it'll be | :11:08. | :11:09.
a new beginning for the previously troubled institution. | :11:10. | :11:11.
Last year, the former Alfreton Grange Arts Collegd was at | :11:12. | :11:14.
But from this term, it's being sponsored by local business, | :11:15. | :11:21.
So, can a clothing manufacttrer also run a school? | :11:22. | :11:34.
November last year, strikes showed how the institution, staff `nd | :11:35. | :11:46.
pupils were all suffering. Now it has all changed, a new building is | :11:47. | :11:52.
under way to replace the battered 1950s building currently hotsing the | :11:53. | :11:59.
pupils. This firm is behind it all. For 55 years, it has employdd people | :12:00. | :12:05.
locally. We have a very good local people and the whole economx is | :12:06. | :12:10.
driven by these local peopld. We have taken the view we will never be | :12:11. | :12:14.
here that another 55 years hf we do not have well-educated children | :12:15. | :12:20.
coming into the labour markdt. This term sore eye new head teacher come | :12:21. | :12:24.
into the school with a new programme to stimulate the pupils. We want to | :12:25. | :12:29.
make sure the children have the best education possible and they can move | :12:30. | :12:33.
onto whatever they want to do in the future whether that is Univdrsity or | :12:34. | :12:37.
employment or travelling thd world. We hope they will come back and talk | :12:38. | :12:42.
to future students so they can inspire them and give them the same | :12:43. | :12:47.
of ambition. The government has provided ?50 million for a new | :12:48. | :12:51.
building but the pupils say it is more than that. It is a fresh start, | :12:52. | :12:56.
new teachers, new uniform, ` different school. I'm quite excited, | :12:57. | :13:02.
especially going into a nicd new building. I think it is a fresh | :13:03. | :13:10.
start. Can a company like usually move into the education bushness? | :13:11. | :13:15.
We're not moving into the education business but we are providing the | :13:16. | :13:20.
leadership and guidance and we have been fortunate to recruit an | :13:21. | :13:25.
excellent team of trustees, really good educational standards `nd this | :13:26. | :13:29.
is what it needs, energy and enthusiasm. When the new buhlding | :13:30. | :13:34.
opens next year they hope that will take the school into a whold new | :13:35. | :13:36.
take the school into a whole new era. | :13:37. | :13:40.
Police in Leicester are keen to question them in connecthon | :13:41. | :13:51.
Some are elderly and they'vd all been conned into handing | :13:52. | :13:56.
over cash and jewellery totalling ?100,000. | :13:57. | :13:57.
So far the scammers have targeted areas around the city's Highfields | :13:58. | :14:00.
This e-fit gives a clearer hmage of one of the men. The public `re urged | :14:01. | :14:14.
to keep vigilant. Leicestershire's two largest | :14:15. | :14:18.
councils are urging the Govdrnment to invest in a new type of train | :14:19. | :14:20.
running to and from Leicestershire County Counchl | :14:21. | :14:22.
and Leicester City Council both fear that without more investment before | :14:23. | :14:26.
2020, delays in the electrification of the Midland Mainline will hit | :14:27. | :14:28.
the local economy. They're calling on Ministers | :14:29. | :14:30.
to order what are known as bi-mode trains which are powered by diesel | :14:31. | :14:33.
or electricity so they can still be used when the line | :14:34. | :14:35.
is eventually electrified. The annual snapshot of the health | :14:36. | :14:38.
of England's historic sites has been Every year Historic England draws up | :14:39. | :14:41.
its At Risk register. in the East Midlands it's pretty | :14:42. | :14:50.
evenly balanced with ten sites As Quentin Rayner reports, | :14:51. | :14:54.
some of the sites added are tucked Bromley House in Nottingham, was | :14:55. | :14:57.
built in 1752 and from most of that After well over two | :14:58. | :15:05.
centuries, the building is showing its age and has been added | :15:06. | :15:09.
to the at risk register. The problem for the library | :15:10. | :15:12.
is its 260-year-old It has never been replaced | :15:13. | :15:14.
and constantly leaks. a lottery grant and needs h`lf | :15:15. | :15:17.

when the drainage is It's damaging our collection | :15:31. | :15:32.

the colonnade of old Market Just outside the square | :15:43. | :15:52.
is also at risk. Historic England is concerndd | :15:53. | :15:55.
about empty premises. As well as the covered colonnade | :15:56. | :16:02.
which surrounds the squares. This square in Nottingham | :16:03. | :16:07.
was comparable to Covent Garden in the 18th century as you can see | :16:08. | :16:12.
today, it is a bit tatty and under It was regarded as one of the most | :16:13. | :16:20.
beautiful public spaces in the country. | :16:21. | :16:20.
It is on the conservation areas at risk list to reflect that. | :16:21. | :16:25.
On the plus side, Saint Marx's church in Leics was in dangdr | :16:26. | :16:31.
of demolition, is off the rhsk register as is this | :16:32. | :16:33.
Historic England say good progress has been made restoring | :16:34. | :16:36.
Taylor's Bell Foundry in Loughborough. | :16:37. | :16:38.
Historic England say good progress is made. | :16:39. | :16:48.
We've taken 12 buildings of the at risk list | :16:49. | :16:51.
We maybe winning the battle but the battle continues. | :16:52. | :16:54.
There is a lot of hard work for owners, ourselves and local | :16:55. | :16:57.
Bromley House relies on rent and subscriptions from its lembers. | :16:58. | :17:00.
It needs to find half a million but so far are it has | :17:01. | :17:04.
That is a beautiful library, fingers crossed for the future. | :17:05. | :17:09.
That is a beautiful library, fingers crossed for the futtre. | :17:10. | :17:12.
Still to come - it's been a good year for the pumpkins. | :17:13. | :17:15.
As we hurtle towards Hallowden, Geeta's been to a Nottinghalshire | :17:16. | :17:17.
farm that's got a bumper crop of big orange beauties. | :17:18. | :17:29.
Dominic will now be very quhet and I am going to speak to Lesley with the | :17:30. | :17:34.
sport. Yes, indeed. First another day and | :17:35. | :17:38.
more revelations out Today owner Fawaz Al Hasawi has | :17:39. | :17:41.
revealed he will stand down today that Al Hasawi accused | :17:42. | :17:48.
all British managers Al Hasawi says his comments | :17:49. | :17:52.
made on this Kuwaiti But as a result a former manager | :17:53. | :17:55.
has made a complaint They are investigating | :17:56. | :18:00.
and in discussions with the Football Association | :18:01. | :18:08.
and the Football League. Onto the Premier League and a boost | :18:09. | :18:11.
for Leicester City fans ahe`d of the game with | :18:12. | :18:16.
Crystal Palace tomorrow. Fuchs means fox in German, | :18:17. | :18:18.
has signed a new deal. The popular defender's new contract | :18:19. | :18:25.
keeps him at the club Next: a special feature | :18:26. | :18:28.
on Derby County's Tom Ince. He says he owes a debt to Ddrby | :18:29. | :18:31.
and helping them win promothon He's welcomed Steve McClaren's | :18:32. | :18:34.
return and has given Angela an in depth interview on life | :18:35. | :18:38.
at the I-pro and impressing his dad. For Tom Ince football has always | :18:39. | :18:53.
been his life. It seems that life just got a bit better. That's not | :18:54. | :19:02.
just me, that's a lot of pl`yers here. It allows us to express | :19:03. | :19:07.
ourselves no matter what position you are in, to play your gale and | :19:08. | :19:13.
not worry about mistakes. Rdunited with Steve McClaren, a court she | :19:14. | :19:17.
says gets the best from him and his team-mates. Is the most successful | :19:18. | :19:23.
time I have been here as virus winning winning games. Which is what | :19:24. | :19:32.
we all want. One spell with McLaren saw him score 11 goals in 18 games, | :19:33. | :19:39.
Tom Ince believes he owes a debt to Derrick Lee County. It was ` great | :19:40. | :19:45.
time for me. This next step needs to be the right one for me, and 24 now | :19:46. | :19:51.
and I am slowly building into my prime time. I have to try and do | :19:52. | :19:58.
everything I can do in the Premier League, you want to go and play beer | :19:59. | :20:03.
and play against the best players in the world. This is the foundation | :20:04. | :20:11.
for that, it is a long procdss. Playing in the Premier Leagte and | :20:12. | :20:15.
following in his father's footsteps, he will take it all in his stride. | :20:16. | :20:22.
It gives me a name that I al proud of, it sets me a challenge. I have | :20:23. | :20:26.
to say what I can do here and what I can do for this club and wh`t | :20:27. | :20:31.
happens in the future. Keephng watch every game, the man he trusts the | :20:32. | :20:38.
most. My dad gives me an an`lysis after the game, what position I was | :20:39. | :20:44.
then, which fit I should have used. That is always a big meeting after | :20:45. | :20:50.
the game. I have loads of mdetings, with the old man after the game He | :20:51. | :20:56.
is proud of his son who has managed to play in the game. When your son | :20:57. | :21:02.
has managed to stay in the game and keep the name-calling, it is a great | :21:03. | :21:06.
thing for him and it is a great bond we have as a player and ex-player | :21:07. | :21:11.
and obviously father and son. We have a game of golf and a chat | :21:12. | :21:20.
afterwards. Great archive footage there. | :21:21. | :21:21.
Striker James Wilson has suffered a serious knee injury. | :21:22. | :21:25.
He'll need surgery and is sdt for a lengthy spell on the sidelines. | :21:26. | :21:28.

In rugby Leicester Tigers dhrector of rugby, Richard Cockerill has | :21:39. | :21:46.
admitted last Friday's record defeat in Glasgow in the first | :21:47. | :21:48.
round of the European Champhons Cup has damaged the reputation | :21:49. | :21:51.
He's pledged to do all he c`n to put things rights ahead of Sund`y's | :21:52. | :21:55.
match at Welford Road against French team Racing 92. | :21:56. | :22:00.
I think the manner of defeats is the thing | :22:01. | :22:02.
which is hurting all of us at | :22:03. | :22:04.
I am not going to shirk awax from the responsibilities. | :22:05. | :22:12.
Nor is the rest of the coaches or playing staff. | :22:13. | :22:14.
We're going to make sure we work hard | :22:15. | :22:16.
and it is still early in the | :22:17. | :22:18.
season and we will come through the other side of it. | :22:19. | :22:20.
In ice hockey the Nottinghal Panthers begins their campahgn | :22:21. | :22:24.

This month she won gold for Great Britain at Bulgarha's | :22:43. | :22:46.
That is all the sport. Good luck team Ryan. Thank you. | :22:47. | :22:59.
With Halloween on the horizon - it is a busy time for pumpkhn | :23:00. | :23:05.
And it's especially busy thhs year at Brooke Farm in Nottinghalshire. | :23:06. | :23:08.
Weather conditions have helped produce a bumper crop. | :23:09. | :23:10.
As Geeta Pendse reports, they've got more pumpkins then | :23:11. | :23:12.
Pumpkins, pumpkins and yes, you guessed it, pumpkins. | :23:13. | :23:27.
This year has been a bumper crop at Brooke Farm in | :23:28. | :23:31.
Staff say a wet early summer and sunny September have helped | :23:32. | :23:44.
This year we have had 130 planted out in the field, normally we would | :23:45. | :23:47.
expect 260 but this year we had just over 400. | :23:48. | :23:54.
We have also been ready probably two weeks earlier than normal. | :23:55. | :24:00.
So, yeah, plenty of pumpkins for sale. | :24:01. | :24:02.
There is a size for everyond, perhaps the smaller variety or its | :24:03. | :24:05.
larger neighbour, the magical pumpkins. | :24:06. | :24:11.
Brooke Farm offers training and employment to disabled people. | :24:12. | :24:22.
Andrew has been working here for a year and | :24:23. | :24:24.
What kind of design do you have here? | :24:25. | :24:32.
You mark it out and then we have cut it out in the shape. | :24:33. | :24:47.
The pumpkins are on sale to the public, whether it is to eat or | :24:48. | :24:50.
scare, there is no doubting they have pride of place here at Brook | :24:51. | :24:53.
Brilliant. One of her viewers is 103 today. Many happy returns. There | :24:54. | :25:25.
have been many smiling sons for your birthday and I have been told the | :25:26. | :25:32.
technical name for this smiling sun. It certainly is, the son has been | :25:33. | :25:38.
smiling. It looks like an upside-down rainbow. It is when the | :25:39. | :25:44.
sun reflects through ice crxstals in the cloud. | :25:45. | :25:50.
Keep the pictures coming in. You can join the weather watchers. Variable | :25:51. | :25:57.
amounts of cloud for most of us it will be dry. A lot of dry wdather | :25:58. | :26:04.
and it will get chilly once again. We are in those locked part in and | :26:05. | :26:08.
we will stay there for the next few days. High pressure in charge, low | :26:09. | :26:13.
pressure in the east. This low pressure gives us the risk of one or | :26:14. | :26:18.
two showers. Mostly dry and overnight we will remain drx. Cloud | :26:19. | :26:25.
increases for a time, the odd spot of rain. Temperatures down to 7 | :26:26. | :26:31.
degrees, 45 Fahrenheit. Cle`r skies in the south and you are looking at | :26:32. | :26:36.
the risk of fog. Tomorrow wd will say the cloud and breaking tp more | :26:37. | :26:41.
than today. Decent spells of sunshine, yes the risk of the odd | :26:42. | :26:46.
shower but for most of us it will stay dry. A light breeze in the | :26:47. | :26:52.
sunshine, highs of 12 degreds. Overnight into Sunday, we are | :26:53. | :26:57.
looking at the week feature producing more cloud and a few | :26:58. | :27:01.
showers in the south. Potentially a great start to the day on Stnday, | :27:02. | :27:06.
showers at first but brightdning up. Highs of 12 degrees. The wind is | :27:07. | :27:09.
picking up from the east and it looks like it will be dry for most | :27:10. | :27:16.
of next week as well. Great. What do you do with pumpkins? You c`n make | :27:17. | :27:21.
soup or you can fill them whth cheese and sweetcorn and crdam. You | :27:22. | :27:29.
are my little pumpkin. Throw them in the bin! | :27:30. | :27:31. |
