sentenced for their 500 people complained | :01:15. | :01:21.
to Trading Standards, making it one of the biggest | :01:22. | :01:25.
cases ever dealt with by The man at the centre of wh`t the | :01:26. | :01:43.
court hard were astonishing levels of dishonesty. 55-year-old Jonathan | :01:44. | :01:48.
Rivers from Coleshill in Birmingham was the owner of publishing company, | :01:49. | :01:52.
Wyvern Media Group, based in Derby. He is believed to have earndd ? .7 | :01:53. | :02:01.
million between 2007-2012. Tnder his direction, employees focused on cold | :02:02. | :02:05.
calling small firms to sell advertising space in its | :02:06. | :02:08.
publications, like these, which were poor quality, made up of adverts and | :02:09. | :02:14.
Hadlow readerships. Staff mhsled customers into | :02:15. | :02:27.
thinking the publications would be promoted at high-profile evdnts or | :02:28. | :02:30.
that they'd won awards that they'd need to pay to receive along with | :02:31. | :02:33.
the advertising space. Unauthorised withdrawals were also made from | :02:34. | :02:35.
customers accounts. Staff in offices around the Midlands and south-west | :02:36. | :02:37.
were told to tell lies on an industrial scale. False namds were | :02:38. | :02:41.
used, claims about readershhp exaggerated, and a host of companies | :02:42. | :02:46.
dissolved and set up again tnder the banner of Wyvern Media Group to make | :02:47. | :02:49.
it difficult for customers to complain. This group were qtite | :02:50. | :02:56.
callous. They would threaten individuals who made complahnts with | :02:57. | :03:00.
legal action. On occasions, they sought to take individuals to the | :03:01. | :03:03.
County Court to recover the money they thought they were owed. Between | :03:04. | :03:08.
2007-2012, it's estimated the company employed around 250 staff, | :03:09. | :03:15.
had around 18,000 customers a year, with an annual turnover of `round ?7 | :03:16. | :03:22.
million. Over 500 people colplained to trading standards about Wyvern | :03:23. | :03:27.
Media Group. One of them was this woman from Shropshire who owned a | :03:28. | :03:31.
dog rescue centre and died of lung cancer last year. She lost over | :03:32. | :03:37.
?5,000 to the company, whom bombarded her with calls. Hdr | :03:38. | :03:42.
treatment was described in court as a feeding frenzy. She couldn't sleep | :03:43. | :03:51.
at night. She started smoking more. And she didn't eat properly. She | :03:52. | :03:57.
just said she wasn't hungry or. . That could have affected her a lot, | :03:58. | :04:04.
and she couldn't sleep. This man described in court as Jonathan | :04:05. | :04:08.
Rivers air apparent even cale to the Paterson 's house to demand money. | :04:09. | :04:14.
In total, ten people were sdntenced today, all of whom pleaded guilty. | :04:15. | :04:19.
Five, including Jonathan Rivers and Basra were given jail terms ranging | :04:20. | :04:24.
from six years to 16 months. The remaining five received suspended | :04:25. | :04:30.
prison sentences, ranging from two years to three months. They were not | :04:31. | :04:34.
happy to talk to the media `s they left court this afternoon btt one of | :04:35. | :04:41.
them did apologise for her role I am very sorry, and I regret | :04:42. | :04:44.
everything about everything. That is all I can say. | :04:45. | :04:47.
What was the reaction to the judge's sentencing? | :04:48. | :04:53.
As he sentenced the ten defdndants, the judge said their behaviour was | :04:54. | :05:01.
nothing short of a scandal. There was little reaction from thdm as | :05:02. | :05:05.
their sentences were read ott, but family and friends were hurled | :05:06. | :05:10.
grasping and crying. I spokd to the gentleman whose wife was sc`mmed by | :05:11. | :05:15.
one of the media group and H asked whether he thought justice had been | :05:16. | :05:20.
done. My wife wasn't... A vhndictive woman. She would have been pleased | :05:21. | :05:30.
with the way things have gone today. It won't bring her back but I think, | :05:31. | :05:34.
in the long run, she would have been pleased. Finally, as he was summing | :05:35. | :05:40.
up, the judge asked the question many of us would ask. Why dhd they | :05:41. | :05:46.
do it? You responded to himself the answer is greed. OK, thanks very | :05:47. | :05:48.
much. Coming up, it's an almost b`lmy | :05:49. | :05:49.
autumn in our weather forec`st but there's a chill | :05:50. | :05:54.
for both Forest and Derby With a third of the season gone | :05:55. | :05:56.
are they fighting relegation? The man accused of stabbing to death | :05:57. | :06:10.
a backpacker from Derbyshird has been charged with a second | :06:11. | :06:14.

was attacked at a hostel Frenchman Smail Ayad had already | :06:18. | :06:20.
been charged with her murder. Tom Jackson from Cheshire, who'd | :06:21. | :06:28.
reportedly tried to protect Mia Ayad didn't appear at | :06:29. | :06:32.
Townsville Magistrates, but was remanded in custody | :06:33. | :06:37.

Lincolnshire Hospital's Trust are now recommending closurds | :06:54. | :06:58.
remain in place. Over the winter months, it will be | :06:59. | :07:13.
even more of an issue, purely because of the winter weathdr, | :07:14. | :07:17.
because with the icy condithons I personally don't believe it was a | :07:18. | :07:22.
temporary measure. I believd it was a test period, to test Grantham | :07:23. | :07:28.
without having those servicds in the evening. With the plan to ttrn this | :07:29. | :07:30.
into an urgent care centre. Nottinghamshire police are `sking | :07:31. | :07:32.

a statement after Roberts was sentenced to prison for four | :08:52. | :08:58.

the outcome of this case. Roberts abused his position | :09:02. | :09:03.
of trust, targeting a vulnerable patient whilst working at the mental | :09:04. | :09:06.
health unit in 2014. This sentence of four years and four | :09:07. | :09:11.

offences of this nature and get Nottinghamshire health | :09:15. | :09:18.

does not excuse what you did." Onto the roads now where thd dream | :09:45. | :09:55.
of electrically powered transport From next week, Nottingham will be | :09:56. | :09:59.
introducing a new electric bus fleet as part of the city's drive | :10:00. | :10:06.
to improve air quality. And as our Political Editor Tony Roe | :10:07. | :10:10.
reports, special lanes for dlectric A glimpse of the future or ` wrong | :10:11. | :10:13.
turn which could hit business? As you can hear, there's a little | :10:14. | :10:23.
bit of rolling noise, a little bit of wind noise | :10:24. | :10:26.
but you can't hear anything Nottingham City Council is promoting | :10:27. | :10:28.
electric cars using them in the council's fleet, | :10:29. | :10:32.
and building charging points I think the main benefit | :10:33. | :10:34.
for the city is going Nottingham has an air | :10:35. | :10:39.
quality problem, along Electric cars means that thdre is no | :10:40. | :10:43.
emissions at source. This is one of 13 | :10:44. | :10:50.
new electric buses. It gives the city the largest | :10:51. | :10:55.
electric bus fleet in Europd, and it's quite an investment | :10:56. | :10:59.
at 300 grand a bus. Soon, they'll be able | :11:00. | :11:03.
to drive along here, Britain's first | :11:04. | :11:05.
electrical vehicle lane. Nottingham and Derby are among six | :11:06. | :11:09.
cities the government's orddred to cut down on air pollution | :11:10. | :11:12.
to comply with European They will get a clean air zone, | :11:13. | :11:14.
and low emissions vehicles The project in Nottingham | :11:15. | :11:19.
and Derby's being backed Critics say it's more cash | :11:20. | :11:23.
for costly green policies. I've got no problem with eldctric | :11:24. | :11:30.
cars and power points, The point is they are not | :11:31. | :11:32.
commercially viable, otherwise the local | :11:33. | :11:35.
authority wouldn't be Campaigners claim the government | :11:36. | :11:37.
had planned ten other city clean air zones, | :11:38. | :11:41.
including Leicester, but dropped the idea | :11:42. | :11:44.
after rejections from the Treasury. It may be a glimpse of the future | :11:45. | :11:47.
but it isn't a vision And there's more on that | :11:48. | :11:51.
story in Sunday Politics, Thieves have ransacked a chtrch | :11:52. | :11:56.
in Leicester stealing money Staff believe that the | :11:57. | :12:04.
burglary happened at St. Philip's Church on Evington Road, | :12:05. | :12:10.
between Wednesday night They say vandals ransacked lany | :12:11. | :12:12.
parts of the building, and showed no respect for it | :12:13. | :12:16.
as a place of worship. There are great people | :12:17. | :12:20.
who make that work happen. So, whilst of course we will look | :12:21. | :12:23.
at the security, we're going to do our utmost make sure | :12:24. | :12:27.
this church continues to serve this community, that the | :12:28. | :12:33.
doors remain open. Tourism in the Peak District | :12:34. | :12:37.
generated almost ?2 billion New research shows that | :12:38. | :12:40.
despite a difficult financi`l climate, visitor numbers rose, | :12:41. | :12:45.
with almost 40 million people heading to the area, | :12:46. | :12:49.
with many more staying overnight. Hundreds of campaigners are expected | :12:50. | :12:55.
to take to the streets tomorrow in Leicester to protest | :12:56. | :12:58.
against the closure Protesters want everyone to come | :12:59. | :13:00.
together in the city to show their support for the unit | :13:01. | :13:05.
at Glenfield Hospitals. The city council says it's decided | :13:06. | :13:09.
to waive its usual charge for road closures so the organisers | :13:10. | :13:12.
won't have to pay. In two years' time the country | :13:13. | :13:17.
will mark a significant occasion in world history, | :13:18. | :13:19.
100 years since the end And already plans have been unveiled | :13:20. | :13:23.
here for major In Nottingham, they include possible | :13:24. | :13:27.
new and upgraded memorials `round the city's Victoria Embankmdnt, | :13:28. | :13:35.
and plans to recreate one of the world's most famous tributes | :13:36. | :13:38.
to those who lost their livds. It was one of the largest and | :13:39. | :13:55.
deadliest conflict in history. Even given the title the Great W`r. | :13:56. | :13:59.
Millions took part, and millions died. Built in Nottingham to honour | :14:00. | :14:05.
the fallen, it's now hoped this memorial gate will be the b`ckdrop | :14:06. | :14:11.
of some very big commemorathons marking 100 years since the war | :14:12. | :14:15.
ended on the 11th hour of the 1 th day of the 11th month of 1908. | :14:16. | :14:24.
Today, those planning Armistice Day 2018 revealed their plans. They | :14:25. | :14:29.
include improvements to the Memorial Gardens, a new sitting statte with a | :14:30. | :14:34.
nurse and an injured soldier. The next stage? Raising the funds for | :14:35. | :14:39.
these ideas. But perhaps thd most striking is this. 14,000 nales of | :14:40. | :14:45.
local men who died would be superimposed onto this, the idea is | :14:46. | :14:49.
to create Nottinghamshire's very own version of the famous Menin Gate. | :14:50. | :14:55.
Everyone deserves a place in history. But for the past cdntury, | :14:56. | :15:01.
many of these stories have remained submerged in archives, in pdople's | :15:02. | :15:05.
private collections. It'll be a fitting climax to the process to | :15:06. | :15:09.
project the entire list onto this memorial which, for nearly ` | :15:10. | :15:13.
century, has commemorated Great War loss without the names appe`ring on | :15:14. | :15:17.
it. We're doing it for young people because this is the last ch`nce we | :15:18. | :15:23.
will get and meaningful datd to explain not only the sacrifhce their | :15:24. | :15:26.
forebears made but, far mord importantly, the fact the society | :15:27. | :15:31.
they live in was formed by those four years. The sons of the Duke of | :15:32. | :15:35.
Portland fought shoulder to shoulder with coal miners and they rdalise | :15:36. | :15:39.
they were living in such sqtalor and terror that men had more in common | :15:40. | :15:44.
than kept them apart. Also `mongst the plans for the youngest | :15:45. | :15:49.
generation to play its part, 14 000 poppy seeds will be planted here by | :15:50. | :15:55.
schoolchildren. The idea? To create Nottingham's very own riverside | :15:56. | :16:00.
field of poppies. A message to the fallen- this city will remelber | :16:01. | :16:08.
them. There will be a lot going on in 2018! | :16:09. | :16:09.
Still to come this evening, a new exhibition bringing b`ck | :16:10. | :16:11.
memories of a firm that oncd employed thousands in Leicester | :16:12. | :16:14.
The British Shoe Corporation closed in 1998, but at its height ht | :16:15. | :16:19.
distributed around two millhon pairs of shoes every week. | :16:20. | :16:29.
It's exactly three weeks to go till Children In Need, | :16:30. | :16:32.
with fundraising now in full swing there are lots of ways | :16:33. | :16:35.
One of them is Jump for Pudsey, a campaign that's aimed at getting | :16:36. | :16:41.
us active and raising money at the same time. | :16:42. | :16:44.
Backing the project are leading gymnasts from around the UK, | :16:45. | :16:48.
including our very own Beckx and Ellie Downie. | :16:49. | :16:51.
The Boots headquarters in Bdeston is the latest place for this year's | :16:52. | :17:09.
And at the forefront are gylnasts Becky and Ellie Downing, | :17:10. | :17:16.
I'm trying to get everybody active and everyone jumping. | :17:17. | :17:21.
You can do jumping challengds or just the amount... | :17:22. | :17:25.
Get people basically to sponsor you for the amount of jumps you do | :17:26. | :17:28.
or just trying to jump but, yeah, we're trying to get people | :17:29. | :17:31.
involved and trying to hit the 1 million jump mark. | :17:32. | :17:37.
The project is backed by Boots UK and British gymnastics, | :17:38. | :17:41.
and they're already getting close to their 1 million jump target. | :17:42. | :17:46.
Because of the fantastic support we've had across gyms | :17:47. | :17:48.
and leisure centres, supported by the gymnastics team, | :17:49. | :17:52.
So a million is well within our gift. | :17:53. | :17:57.
As I say, I think we will rdally smash the 1 million jumps. | :17:58. | :18:01.
So, if you fancy getting involved, all the details | :18:02. | :18:03.
That's BBC, ChildrenInNeed.co.uk, and whatever you decide to do, | :18:04. | :18:10.
And you can see more of Pudsey's fund-raising antics on our Facebook, | :18:11. | :18:23.
and I know there'll be more to come in the next few weeks. | :18:24. | :18:28.
My lips are sealed as to wh`t they are... | :18:29. | :18:35.
You've already been filming. I have, with Pudsey. He's vdry | :18:36. | :18:40.
athletic, that is all I can say The sport now. | :18:41. | :18:42.
And the question, "are Derbx and Forest in a relegation fight?" | :18:43. | :18:46.
Nearly a third of the way through the season its | :18:47. | :18:48.
Both clubs insist they are looking up, not down. | :18:49. | :18:52.
But, is the pattern for the season already set? | :18:53. | :19:02.
Seasons turn, leaves change, the clocks step back, and the f`ns of | :19:03. | :19:08.
struggling clubs wonder alrdady if their season is going to be a battle | :19:09. | :19:11.
for survival rather than for success. We know our position. So, | :19:12. | :19:20.
most important is our posithon in May, not a November. But, stre, we | :19:21. | :19:27.
are disappointed about this position. Our job coming in is why. | :19:28. | :19:33.
And what are the problems and solutions. As we make this turn into | :19:34. | :19:40.
winter, how bad are things for Derby and Forest? If you take a look at | :19:41. | :19:44.
the bottom of the table, thdre they are, right above the relegation | :19:45. | :19:48.
zone. The key statistic is the gap between Derby and the final play-off | :19:49. | :19:52.
place, Bristol city-9 points. Whether you think with two thirds of | :19:53. | :19:57.
the season left it's a big problem, depends whether your pasta lystical | :19:58. | :20:02.
terms optimistic. At this point in time, it is can we stay in this | :20:03. | :20:07.
division? It is hard for thdse supporters to raise their enthusiasm | :20:08. | :20:12.
when the team and performing. I read something this morning that we're | :20:13. | :20:15.
trying to aim for top ten. H doubt it. Fans of Forest and Derbx all | :20:16. | :20:22.
depressed together. The plaxers They believe. Looking at thd | :20:23. | :20:30.
players, there isn't a chance that we are looking and thinking about | :20:31. | :20:35.
relegation. That's just one thing that isn't going to happen. The | :20:36. | :20:41.
truth is we're happy to be together at the training, we're happx to be | :20:42. | :20:45.
together in the locker room. Now we have to show something bettdr on the | :20:46. | :20:50.
pitch. They do have fans to win around. Listen to Harry. I've been a | :20:51. | :20:55.
Forest fans had three seasons. They've not done anything good, | :20:56. | :21:01.
so... Will they ever? Never mind, Harry. Winter follows autumn but | :21:02. | :21:06.
spring follows winter. Things blooming... In the end. | :21:07. | :21:11.
And there's been news at Derby today. | :21:12. | :21:14.
Chris Evans is back at the club to work alongside Steve McL`ren | :21:15. | :21:17.
Evans was at the iPro during McCLaren's first spell | :21:18. | :21:21.
and returns after resigning 13 months ago to shape scouting | :21:22. | :21:24.
Leicester City face last ye`r's fellow title challengers Tottenham, | :21:25. | :21:27.
and the Foxes still without a win on the road in the premier league | :21:28. | :21:30.
Everything we believe after the transfer campaigners better. But | :21:31. | :21:50.
some people say it is better, some satyrs and better. Now it is the | :21:51. | :21:54.
only team who is unbeaten so far, Tottenham. They are very, vdry good | :21:55. | :22:02.
squad. And Pochettino can change and rotate his players. | :22:03. | :22:05.
In League Two, Mansfield entertain Stevenage and a top six clash | :22:06. | :22:07.
If you can't be there, the next best place for all the coverage | :22:08. | :22:12.
In rugby, Jack Roberts is sdt for his first start of the season | :22:13. | :22:16.
as Leicester Tigers travel to face Saracens in the Aviva | :22:17. | :22:18.
He's been drafted in followhng the season ending injury | :22:19. | :22:21.
In cricket, another overseas signing for Derbyshire. | :22:22. | :22:26.
Sri Lankan all-rounder Jeev`n Mendis has agreed a deal for the fhrst | :22:27. | :22:29.
He has claimed 225 first cl`ss wickets and scored over | :22:30. | :22:33.
And, finally, ice hockey, and a return to elite leagud | :22:34. | :22:39.
They face Edinburgh Capitals tomorrow and | :22:40. | :22:43.
And, of course, we will be rounding it all up on Monday for you. | :22:44. | :22:56.
Some exciting events over the weekend. | :22:57. | :23:01.
Now onto a subject close to my heart, shoes. | :23:02. | :23:03.
Cast your mind back to the 0980s when shoe shops like Dolcis, | :23:04. | :23:06.
Saxone and Freeman Hardy and Willis were staples of the high street | :23:07. | :23:09.
Well, the millions of shoes they sold, were distributed | :23:10. | :23:17.
from a warehouse right here in the East Midlands. | :23:18. | :23:19.
The British Shoe Corporation in Leicester once employed `round | :23:20. | :23:22.
2,000 workers and this week, at a special exhibition, | :23:23. | :23:24.
they've had chance to reconnect and reminisce, | :23:25. | :23:26.
If you bought a pair of shods in the 1980s, there is a good chance they | :23:27. | :23:40.
came from here. This is British Shoe Corporation's distribution site in | :23:41. | :23:44.
Leicester, filmed at its hehght when around 2 million pairs of shoes | :23:45. | :23:49.
arrived most weeks, destined for hundreds of high-street stores. The | :23:50. | :23:57.
British Shoe Corporation was one of the biggest companies, 2500 people, | :23:58. | :24:03.
would work on side. At any one time. The building had a floor arda of 1 | :24:04. | :24:08.
million square feet, the eqtivalent of 11 to football pitches. Ht was | :24:09. | :24:13.
the largest single-storey w`rehouse in Europe. Today, it looks very | :24:14. | :24:18.
different. The warehouse closed in 1998, and, as you can see, the site | :24:19. | :24:23.
is being bulldozed to make way for a new development which could see | :24:24. | :24:27.
another distribution site hdre. It is a sad sight for Brian. Hd worked | :24:28. | :24:32.
for the company for 30 years and had the emotional job of locking up for | :24:33. | :24:38.
the final time. You closed the door, you look through and you sed an | :24:39. | :24:41.
empty warehouse, a very empty feeling. Sad, sad feeling. But, this | :24:42. | :24:47.
week, a chance to remember happier times. This display in Leicdster | :24:48. | :24:52.
chance the corporation's history. It has attracted hundreds of former | :24:53. | :24:57.
workers. This was the original bottle presented to a lame by myself | :24:58. | :25:02.
as the MD of the business at the time in 1994 to celebrate a | :25:03. | :25:08.
fantastic success for the ydar of 1993. You haven't drunk this | :25:09. | :25:13.
champagne? No, no. I couldn't. I wanted to keep it as a memento. | :25:14. | :25:19.
There it is, 23 years later. The exhibition is open for the final | :25:20. | :25:23.
time tomorrow. So whether you're a former employee or simply a shopper | :25:24. | :25:28.
who loves their shoes, therd's still a chance to step back in tile. | :25:29. | :25:31.
And if you're interested in going along, the exhibithon | :25:32. | :25:34.
is on from 9am until 2pm on the ground floor | :25:35. | :25:36.
of BBC Radio Leicester's building on Jubilee Square. | :25:37. | :25:42.
Which is so lovely, it's worth going to anyway. | :25:43. | :25:49.
It is time for the weather now. We did get some sunshine today, believe | :25:50. | :25:56.
it or not. We had some beautiful sunshine, a bit more than wd hoped | :25:57. | :26:01.
for across parts of Derbyshhre. It didn't last too long. The clouds not | :26:02. | :26:07.
too far away at the moment. It involved us again this afternoon. | :26:08. | :26:10.
And skies were like this much of the afternoon, thanks to this wdather | :26:11. | :26:14.
front. It is a week weather front, not giving us much rain, but leaving | :26:15. | :26:19.
moisture in the atmosphere `nd a legacy of cloud as well. We will | :26:20. | :26:31.
keep the moisture through the weekend. The chart looks promising. | :26:32. | :26:33.
A big slab of high pressure, which isn't too bad for this time of year. | :26:34. | :26:36.
It is anticyclonic gloom, so we are tracking the moisture and cloud We | :26:37. | :26:39.
are staying goal for much of the weekend. It is a quiet weekdnd. | :26:40. | :26:44.
It'll stay dry with patches of mist and fog. Not a lot changing for the | :26:45. | :26:49.
rest of the day and the rest of the night. They could be the odd light | :26:50. | :26:53.
drizzle tonight but for most of us it is a dry night with a lot of | :26:54. | :26:59.
cloud. The mist and fog forling later on. Very mild tonight. About | :27:00. | :27:07.
where we should be during the day. So, a very murky start to the | :27:08. | :27:11.
weekend. A little bit of mist and fog around first thing in the | :27:12. | :27:15.
morning, which could be slow to clear but, eventually, we lhft up. | :27:16. | :27:20.
It is mostly dry at cloudy, and it is mild with light winds, not | :27:21. | :27:25.
feeling too bad. The high pressure is with us on Sunday so it hs spot | :27:26. | :27:32.
the difference, really. Now, what is it with all th`t cloud? | :27:33. | :27:39.
Anticyclonic gloom? It is more like a dirty high. It is what Dolinic | :27:40. | :27:43.
calls it anyway! Have a nicd weekend. | :27:44. | :27:55.
It took us once to get through the novel Anna Karenina. | :27:56. | :28:00.
It was used to help my friend with depression, | :28:01. | :28:06.
and finishing as we went to sleep at night. | :28:07. | :28:09. |
