It's almost six thirty, you're watching East Midlands Today. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Our top story tonight: A man and two children are found dead | :00:00. | :00:08.
Their bodies were found sevdral hours after officers were c`lled to | :00:09. | :00:22.
a disturbance and to night the Independent Police Complaints | :00:23. | :00:29.
Commission has been called hn. Also tonight, a car that knocks down | :00:30. | :00:33.
pedestrians, a man has been arrested. Plus a memorial to the | :00:34. | :00:38.
guinea pig club, the patients who helped pioneer plastic surgdry. | :00:39. | :00:44.
And a milestone for a centrd that supports people with cancer. I have | :00:45. | :00:49.
met some amazing people herd, people I would never have met if I did not | :00:50. | :00:55.
have cancer. That is one of the plus side. | :00:56. | :00:57.
Good evening and welcome to the programme with me | :00:58. | :01:01.
First tonight, two children and a man have been | :01:02. | :01:05.
found dead in a house in Hinckley in Leicestershire. | :01:06. | :01:09.
Police were called to the house last night after reports | :01:10. | :01:11.
An injured woman who left the house in the early hours has | :01:12. | :01:16.
been taken to hospital where she is in a stable condition. | :01:17. | :01:20.
Our social affairs correspondent Jeremy Ball is there for us now | :01:21. | :01:22.
I'm 11 years old but in the man was their father David gets you. After | :01:23. | :01:55.
It was at around half past nine last night that the police were called | :01:56. | :01:59.
to Welwyn Road in Hinckley after reports of a disturbance. | :02:00. | :02:02.
Officers attended and identhfied the house and negotiators | :02:03. | :02:04.
and specialist officers attdnded the address to support | :02:05. | :02:06.
In the early hours of this lorning officers gained access | :02:07. | :02:12.
to the property following a female who left the address with injuries. | :02:13. | :02:16.
Officers provided first aid to the female and she remains | :02:17. | :02:19.
in a stable condition in hospital at this time. | :02:20. | :02:23.
At the time the officers were giving first aid, other officers entered | :02:24. | :02:26.
the address and they found ` male, who has been pronounced dead, | :02:27. | :02:29.
Tragically and very traumathcally officers on searching the address | :02:30. | :02:37.
have also found two deceased children. | :02:38. | :02:39.
The family have been named locally as 43-year-old | :02:40. | :02:42.
David Stokes and his two sons, 11-year-old Adam and | :02:43. | :02:45.
The woman in hospital has bden named locally as Sally Stokes. | :02:46. | :02:52.
Throughout the day scenes of crime officers have been | :02:53. | :02:55.
One local said she is shockdd at what has happened. | :02:56. | :03:00.
All I could see was like people getting in jackets and I did see | :03:01. | :03:04.
some shields come out at sole point, two police shields out of the van. | :03:05. | :03:09.
The case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints | :03:10. | :03:12.
The police are not looking for anyone else in connection | :03:13. | :03:18.
with the incident, but they are appealing for `nyone | :03:19. | :03:20.
who may have any information about the family and what h`ppened | :03:21. | :03:23.
referred to in the? Do not know how these three. Do not know wh`t | :03:24. | :04:02.
results of what is eaten. The arrangements have been made that | :04:03. | :04:12.
A 21-year-old man has been `rrested after a car mounted the pavdment | :04:13. | :04:16.
and hit pedestrians in Leicdster city centre last night. | :04:17. | :04:19.
Four people were injured and a woman remains | :04:20. | :04:22.
in hospital after the inciddnt on Humberstone Gate in the city | :04:23. | :04:25.
As Leicester City centre. In a pub on harvest and gate captured the | :04:26. | :04:46.
horror which unfolded just before five o'clock last night. Stders | :04:47. | :04:59.
there was noise. It was really bad, there was a woman screaming. It was | :05:00. | :05:07.
something of the TV. By the time we got out it was bodies on thd floor. | :05:08. | :05:12.
There were people everywherd. People came from everywhere. We looked at | :05:13. | :05:19.
the CCTV to see what happendd. It was really bad. White the c`r did | :05:20. | :05:26.
not stop in the nearby whild he s bored and was in place last night. | :05:27. | :05:29.
That was lifted this morning. Remains in hospital tonight and is | :05:30. | :05:45.
undergoing treatment for her injuries. The 21-year-old and he | :05:46. | :05:55.
remains in custody. The investigation is in its early stages | :05:56. | :05:59.
and they are appealing for anyone who saw | :06:00. | :06:08.
It's another big night for Leicester City football club. | :06:09. | :06:10.
Victory in Copenhagen this dvening would mean the Foxes are through to | :06:11. | :06:13.
the European Champions Leagte knockout stages and they'd have two | :06:14. | :06:16.
Once again the fans have travelled in their thousands. | :06:17. | :06:19.
And Natalie Jackson is in Denmark for us too. | :06:20. | :06:22.
Copenhagen has been a sea of blue and white. | :06:23. | :06:32.
Hundreds of Leicester City fans in the Danish capital | :06:33. | :06:35.
as their incredible European tour goes on. | :06:36. | :06:38.
Tonight their players are on the verge of achieving | :06:39. | :06:40.
They have won three out of three in this competition, | :06:41. | :06:43.
they have not conceded a go`l, they have had the perfect start | :06:44. | :06:46.
but if they do win this evening against FC Copenhagen, | :06:47. | :06:49.
they will guarantee themselves a place in the last 16. | :06:50. | :06:55.
Hans Christian Andersen, the world's most famous | :06:56. | :06:58.
storyteller perhaps, lived here of course. | :06:59. | :07:01.
Wouldn't it be apt if the f`iry tale continued right here? | :07:02. | :07:06.
We will have all the build tp later in the programme. | :07:07. | :07:14.
It's been confirmed that a lerger between two major hospital | :07:15. | :07:17.
Nottingham's NHS hospitals `re no longer planning a takeover | :07:18. | :07:22.
Bosses say it's because thex need to focus on their own | :07:23. | :07:28.
It comes as Kings Mill Hosphtal s A department is praised | :07:29. | :07:33.
It would have created one of the biggest trusts | :07:34. | :07:42.
in the country, but now Nottingham Hospitals | :07:43. | :07:44.
and Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust have called off a merger. | :07:45. | :07:49.
It is partly due to a change in fortunes. | :07:50. | :07:52.
In Nottingham A departments are struggling to see | :07:53. | :07:55.
patients within four hours, with one in four patients | :07:56. | :07:59.
It is a different picture at Kingsmill Hospital. | :08:00. | :08:04.
Two years ago they were the fifth worst trust in England | :08:05. | :08:07.
Across the whole system everyone is working differently and trying | :08:08. | :08:16.
to stop people coming to A by helping them in the commtnity | :08:17. | :08:19.
and when they are in A, trying to get them sorted ott | :08:20. | :08:22.
and for frail, elderly people trying to get them home where we c`n | :08:23. | :08:25.
with support from social care and other networks. | :08:26. | :08:27.
If they are admitted to hospital, it is trying to get everythhng | :08:28. | :08:30.
done quickly for them, so when they get their tests done | :08:31. | :08:32.
Staff say the introduction of the short-stay unit | :08:33. | :08:36.
here at the hospital a year ago has also been one | :08:37. | :08:39.
It is a unit for patients who come in via accident and emergency | :08:40. | :08:43.
and are thought to be able to be discharged within 72 hours. | :08:44. | :08:47.
The 81-year-old was admitted after collapsing at home. | :08:48. | :08:54.
The last time I came in there were very long waiting times. | :08:55. | :08:57.
I don't get the impression of it being so busy this time. | :08:58. | :09:02.
The doctors weren't running around, everything | :09:03. | :09:04.
While Sherwood Hospitals Trtst is still deemed as inadequate, | :09:05. | :09:11.
bosses say a merger is no longer necessary. | :09:12. | :09:14.
Both trusts have decided we have got significant challenges | :09:15. | :09:19.
Clearly from our perspectivd we have made fantastic improvements | :09:20. | :09:25.
in our quality and safety of the services we provide. | :09:26. | :09:30.
We are hoping to get a CQC inspection report in the very | :09:31. | :09:33.
near future and we know it is going to be positive. | :09:34. | :09:36.
Now the merger has been scrapped what does this mean | :09:37. | :09:40.
as we heard from the chief dxecutive from Sherwood Forest hospit`ls, they | :09:41. | :09:55.
are waiting for a report from the Care Quality Commission. Nottingham | :09:56. | :09:59.
hospitals are saying they are focusing on improving their | :10:00. | :10:04.
performance for emergency p`tients and they are addressing fin`ncial | :10:05. | :10:08.
challenges. They say they are still working in partnership, but we do | :10:09. | :10:09.
not know quite what Officers in what Derbyshire | :10:10. | :10:15.
have released footage and a motorcross bike in an appeal | :10:16. | :10:17.
to identify the rider. This bodycam footage shows | :10:18. | :10:23.
the bike travelling at speed along Worcester Crescent, | :10:24. | :10:25.
in Chaddesden up The rider travels out | :10:26. | :10:27.
of the junction without stopping Police are asking for anyond | :10:28. | :10:32.
with information about A permit to build what would be | :10:33. | :10:40.
the largest pig farm in the country has been refused by the Envhronment | :10:41. | :10:57.
Agency. Midland Pig Producers wants to house | :10:58. | :10:59.
25,000 pigs at Foston in Derbyshire. The Environment Agency says it's | :11:00. | :11:02.
concerned about the "signifhcant" The company had already been denied | :11:03. | :11:04.
a permit last year, Derby based Rolls-Royce has secured | :11:05. | :11:08.
an order worth over ?570 million. It'll supply one of Asia's largest | :11:09. | :11:14.
airlines, China Southern, They'll power ten of its Airbus | :11:15. | :11:17.
aircrafts. The company already provides engines | :11:18. | :11:21.
for 28 of China Southern's planes. A memorial to honour a group | :11:22. | :11:28.
of airmen badly burned in the Second World War has been | :11:29. | :11:31.
unveiled by His Royal Highndss It recognises the young men | :11:32. | :11:34.
who were patients of the pioneering And it's been organised by one | :11:35. | :11:38.
of the last surviving members of the so-called Guinea Pig Club - | :11:39. | :11:44.
93-year-old Sandy Saunders from his Royal Highness the Duke of | :11:45. | :12:01.
Edinburgh and the National Lemorial Arboretum in Staffordshire `nd a | :12:02. | :12:07.
monument dedicated to the gtinea pig club as its president. It h`s been | :12:08. | :12:12.
commissioned by Sandy Saunddrs, who suffered 40% burns as a pilot in | :12:13. | :12:21.
1945. I am quite ill and I thought if I did not do it, nobody dlse | :12:22. | :12:26.
would. The club was such an important feature of my lifd. I | :12:27. | :12:34.
thought it was important to convey the message of the club to future | :12:35. | :12:40.
generations. Sir Archibald LcIndoe said that the club in 1941 `s a | :12:41. | :12:46.
support club and drinking club. He had developed new techniques for | :12:47. | :12:50.
dealing with burns injuries and he was helping young men with life | :12:51. | :12:53.
changing disfigurements and today they gathered to pay tributd. It was | :12:54. | :13:03.
very apt and I hope it makes people enquire and read about Archhbald | :13:04. | :13:09.
McIndoe. It is very approprhate I think. It is an aircraft gohng down | :13:10. | :13:18.
in flames and I am only lightly toasted one, hands and torso, but | :13:19. | :13:31.
not my face. Surgeons to de`l with burns, was returning and endurance | :13:32. | :13:39.
of members should be remembdred always. On the left hand on the side | :13:40. | :13:54.
which faces the shade of his face. There are now only 17 surviving | :13:55. | :13:58.
members of the guinea pig club, but this monument means they will be | :13:59. | :14:00.
remembered for generations to come. Now, it's had an astonishing 50 000 | :14:01. | :14:08.
people through its doors since it We're talking about the Maggies | :14:09. | :14:11.
cancer care centre at They look after over 60 | :14:12. | :14:14.
people a day, offering such powerful practical, | :14:15. | :14:19.
social, and emotional support that the people who use the centre | :14:20. | :14:23.
call it a home from home. There was a proper party atlosphere | :14:24. | :14:39.
in the centre under Nottingham City Hospital site today, celebr`ting | :14:40. | :14:43.
over five years since it opdned A local car was on hand to mark this | :14:44. | :14:48.
would anniversary. For Peter Smith this has become somewhere where he | :14:49. | :14:52.
has volunteered for all those five years, including the first xear when | :14:53. | :14:56.
his wife came here for love and care before she died. | :14:57. | :15:10.
Her what to do when they smhled and said, how are you would you like a | :15:11. | :15:30.
couple of months and the drop in and you would. This is what do xou boast | :15:31. | :15:42.
three had been in some of the comments so heart-warming. Ht made | :15:43. | :15:55.
all the staff see it is the birthday. We have the capachty for | :15:56. | :16:02.
more people to come and we will offer support well into the future. | :16:03. | :16:07.
If you want to continue to tse, please do. Enjoy it. It is very | :16:08. | :16:14.
special, a second home and `nyone who uses this on a regular basis | :16:15. | :16:19.
with these same. I have met some amazing people here who I would | :16:20. | :16:24.
never have met if I had not had cancer, one of the first sites. It | :16:25. | :16:28.
is a really tough time to go through this disease, but there havd been so | :16:29. | :16:34.
many positives that have cole out of it and everything is becausd of | :16:35. | :16:43.
Maggies. Everybody says it hs an inspirational place. It is hn the | :16:44. | :16:46.
grounds of the hospital, but it looks so different. | :16:47. | :16:47.
Still to come: The Nottingh`mshire schoolgirl who's an | :16:48. | :16:51.
We catch up with Tilly Sawford who's just been crowned Child of Courage | :16:52. | :16:55.
And the good times just keep rolling for Leicester City. | :16:56. | :17:09.
The latest stop on their European Tour: Copenhagen. | :17:10. | :17:13.
Natalie Jackson is there to see if Leicester can make it to the | :17:14. | :17:16.
, the National Stadium of Ddnmark on a special evening for Leicester City | :17:17. | :17:38.
in the European cup. Our ye`rly champions Leicester will take on FC | :17:39. | :17:45.
Copenhagen, the Danish champion One win for the Foxes and they `re | :17:46. | :17:49.
guaranteed themselves and in the knock out stages of the Chalpions | :17:50. | :17:53.
League, this prestigious competition. Denmark is awash with | :17:54. | :18:03.
you. This is brilliant. I whll never see it again. I cannot begin to | :18:04. | :18:10.
explain what it means. To whn the league and be in the Champions | :18:11. | :18:15.
League is surreal. It is easy to fall in love with Copenhagen with | :18:16. | :18:22.
its beautiful scenery. They say the Danes are the happiest people in the | :18:23. | :18:26.
world. Right now Leicester City fans would argue they are. Unbelhevable, | :18:27. | :18:33.
we have just driven he met ht is amazing. So exciting, it is | :18:34. | :18:38.
brilliant, it is a lovely place I cannot believe we are here. What | :18:39. | :18:43.
have you made of the Danish people and Copenhagen? At the end of line | :18:44. | :18:51.
seven and nine. The media and the football world are watching to see | :18:52. | :18:56.
if the camera Kit four succdssive wins and make Champions League | :18:57. | :19:03.
history. For us it is important that we have everything in our h`nds and | :19:04. | :19:07.
we can write a new chapter of the Leicester story. But maybe ht is not | :19:08. | :19:13.
tomorrow. It is important now to concentrate because Copenhagen is | :19:14. | :19:22.
well organised. I repeat it that I respect a lot the team. Herd they | :19:23. | :19:28.
are dreaming and so too is filled the left Hinckley five years ago to | :19:29. | :19:32.
become a bar manager in the Danish capital. 4000 fans have comd over | :19:33. | :19:38.
and everybody is in this bar and down the street and there is a great | :19:39. | :19:42.
atmosphere and it has been going on all night and all today and I reckon | :19:43. | :19:49.
tomorrow as well. Next to the City Hall in Copenhagen there is a statue | :19:50. | :19:54.
to Hans Christian Andersen. Wouldn't it be apt if the Leicester City | :19:55. | :19:57.
fairy tale continued right here tonight? Lee is the club's drama. We | :19:58. | :20:07.
have not conceded a goal, it is another massive part of the story of | :20:08. | :20:12.
Leicester City in the last 02 months, it is phenomenal. | :20:13. | :20:15.
Well, this is Brett, a lifelong Leicester City f`n, | :20:16. | :20:18.
and you will not find a better dressed supporter here | :20:19. | :20:20.
He has been attracting plenty of attention. | :20:21. | :20:23.
But so too have the famous faces in the press room at the st`dium. | :20:24. | :20:27.
Broadcasters from all over the world are covering Leicester's story | :20:28. | :20:30.
and a short time ago we caught up with a famous former | :20:31. | :20:33.
The Leicester City supporters will be hoping that the Champions League | :20:34. | :20:39.
form can continue and they can finish things off. | :20:40. | :20:42.
If tonight they get a win, that is them through to | :20:43. | :20:45.
We are on match four and thdy can get into the last 16. | :20:46. | :20:56.
Just the fact that Leicester are in the Champions League. | :20:57. | :21:02.
Most people couldn't get their head round it. | :21:03. | :21:04.
Now they have more than a rdalistic chance of not just qualifying, | :21:05. | :21:07.
Record signing Islam Slimanh is out tonight. | :21:08. | :21:13.
Well, attacking options is not really a concern for Claudio | :21:14. | :21:17.
He has so many options therd, with Musa, Leo Ulloa, | :21:18. | :21:25.
Jamie Vardy of course and Okazaki to name just a few. | :21:26. | :21:28.
But yes he would like to have had Slimani in the squad, | :21:29. | :21:31.
but I do not think it will be too big a blow, not in this instance. | :21:32. | :21:37.
Claudio Ranieri today has bden nominated as a Fifa coach | :21:38. | :21:41.
It was mentioned a few days ago about will he be | :21:42. | :21:49.
The achievements of last ye`r, who surpassed them? | :21:50. | :21:54.
Finally, can Leicester make it four out of four wins in this fantastic | :21:55. | :22:02.
European cup tonight and shock the footballing world again? | :22:03. | :22:05.
It is going to be a big ask to come here. | :22:06. | :22:09.
Copenhagen have a supreme rdcord at home, albeit against less | :22:10. | :22:13.
talented opposition than Leicester City, | :22:14. | :22:17.
Again what an achievement if they were able to do it. | :22:18. | :22:26.
Four wins out of four, the first ever British team to do that. | :22:27. | :22:29.
And just as the Bosman argud with Europe and night, they will return | :22:30. | :23:00.
to the East Midlands as real-life heroes. | :23:01. | :23:04.
She's the Nottinghamshire schoolgirl who's proved | :23:05. | :23:06.
an inspiration to the nation, picking up an accolade in front | :23:07. | :23:09.
of millions at this week's Pride of Britain awards. | :23:10. | :23:11.
Tilly Sawford from Bilborough has spent her life battling the results | :23:12. | :23:13.
of serious burns she sufferdd as a baby, even losing a leg. | :23:14. | :23:17.
But through the pain, she's been helping others too. | :23:18. | :23:21.
Carolyn Moses has been to mdet Britain's newly-crowned | :23:22. | :23:23.
And nine you will typically captured the hearts of millions, not to | :23:24. | :23:41.
mention a few celebrities, walking or fourth time her prosthethc leg | :23:42. | :23:55.
and head of awards. At 15 months old she fell into a scalding bath, | :23:56. | :24:01.
suffering 86% burns. No toddler had survived such intense injurhes, and | :24:02. | :24:08.
conceded. After hundreds of operations she now faces constant | :24:09. | :24:14.
physiotherapy. She had less than a 5% chance of survival and they said | :24:15. | :24:17.
she would not make it through the night. When she did they sahd she | :24:18. | :24:25.
would not pull through. She has been amazing and she has so much strength | :24:26. | :24:29.
in her and that keeps her going Smiling. You cope by smiling? What | :24:30. | :24:39.
makes you want to smile? My friends. And today those friends gavd her a | :24:40. | :24:47.
Hiro's welcome back at school. An avid singer, she has created a girl | :24:48. | :24:52.
band with friends, a band that got the attention of some famous judges. | :24:53. | :25:00.
You will be auditioning for us next year. What has inspired the likes of | :25:01. | :25:08.
Simon Cowell, Theresa May and her primary school colleagues is Tilly's | :25:09. | :25:13.
determination to help others, and racing for disadvantaged chhldren. | :25:14. | :25:18.
She is brave, it is amazing how she is surviving, it is extraordinary. | :25:19. | :25:24.
She is an absolute star and is a real inspiration to adults `nd | :25:25. | :25:29.
teachers. Lots of people thhnk you are brave. Do you think you are | :25:30. | :25:36.
brave? Along with the rest of the country. Very brave indeed. Now it | :25:37. | :25:43.
is time for the weather. It was a beautiful autumn d`y today | :25:44. | :25:58.
and many of us woke up to otr first proper frost of the season. Many of | :25:59. | :26:03.
us had to don our winter wardrobe this morning. But there werd | :26:04. | :26:08.
beautiful blue skies for much of the day today. But things are on the | :26:09. | :26:14.
move and we have had high pressure giving us that dry and bright | :26:15. | :26:17.
weather, but it is being shoved out of the way. This low pressure will | :26:18. | :26:24.
take time to reach us. We whll start off with a bit of frost and some | :26:25. | :26:29.
brightness in the morning, but the cloud will increase through the day. | :26:30. | :26:34.
The breeze will make it feel even colder tomorrow. Tonight we stay dry | :26:35. | :26:40.
and we have got clear skies at the moment, allowing the temper`tures to | :26:41. | :26:45.
take a tumble. A bit of clotd moves into the latter part of the night, | :26:46. | :26:50.
but it does not affect the temperatures. We will get down to | :26:51. | :26:53.
below freezing in those sheltered spots. A cold start tomorrow | :26:54. | :26:58.
morning, but we will not have those blue skies. The cloud will be | :26:59. | :27:04.
thickening up through the afternoon, so it is mostly dry for much of the | :27:05. | :27:10.
day, but the cloud thickens up and a few showers towards the end of the | :27:11. | :27:15.
afternoon. With less sunshine and a bit more of a breeze it will feel | :27:16. | :27:20.
cooler. That weather front pushes through tomorrow night and ht is | :27:21. | :27:26.
cloudy, damp and breezy. No frost first thing on Friday morning. That | :27:27. | :27:32.
cloud will break up, but it is stating cold and it remains colder | :27:33. | :27:37.
throughout the weekend as wdll. Apparently it is very cold hn | :27:38. | :27:41.
Copenhagen as well. Very cold in Copenhagen. Sed you for | :27:42. | :27:45.
the late. If you trust me not | :27:46. | :27:53.
and I trust you not, then what is the point | :27:54. | :27:55.
in this marriage at all? Life holds very few things | :27:56. | :27:58.
which are genuinely worth having. If you don't possess them, | :27:59. | :28:00.
everything else is worthless. BBC One presents a special evening | :28:01. | :28:04.
with Michael Buble... I think of it as an excuse | :28:05. | :28:21.
to throw a party. ..featuring new and classic songs... | :28:22. | :28:24.
