been dealing with a cluster of TB cases among food workers in the

Fens. A UKIP councillor clahms the public have been kept in thd dark.

There have been 17 cases of the disease at just two factorids. One

worker has died. But Cambridgeshire county council says there's no risk

to the public. Two workers have already bedn

diagnosed with TB this year. The factories recorded nine casds of the

disease last year and six the year before. This council says the only

reason these figures have bden released is he heard rumours and

challenged the county counchl. You have to tell the public when things

that this happened. If we h`ve an outbreak of this disease in this

county, then the public shotld know. The people I spoke to were shocked.

I didn't realise people got it now. It is quite worrying that it hasn't

been publicised all stop thdre are a lot of immigrants people who had

could have brought in from outside the country, but I hope it doesn't

spread. Health officials sax there is evidence to suggest you can catch

TB by eating vegetables frol the factories concerned. There `re about

80 cases across the area each year. It is much more infectious with

close contact, not casual community contact. It is understood routine

screening of other employees believed to be risk will now be

carried out. Crews have spent the day at the

scene of a fire which tore through a disused mushroom factory in Norfolk.

Some people living near the site in Martham near Great Yarmouth had to

take shelter at a community centre because of the risk from propane gas
