Hello. I'm Simon Newton. First tonight: There are fears of a

looming shortage of maternity care in the region because of new

European rules. Independent midwives, who provide a service

alongside the NHS, soon won't be able to practice unless thex have

indemnity insurance. And thd Government says it can't afford to

help. Mickey Garratt from Suffolk travels

across the East as an indepdndent midwife. She is helping this woman

through a homebirth which c`nnot be offered at the hospital. Shd may

have to give up her job bec`use she may need insurance to practhce but

no company currently offers this. If we can no longer practicd legally

than women will have to go back to the NHS which will cost the

government more and they ard not taking any notice of it at `ll.

Jean is expecting her second child. For her, an independent midwife was

invaluable. For me, I want to have a baby at

home and if an independent lidwife can support me it is great `nd it's

going to be a big loss. The issue has caused debate at

Westminster and the governmdnt needs to create a insurance schemd.

The first person to see your Lordships in the nude is a lidwife.

They are special people. But the coalition says it c`nnot

afford it. The creation of any governmdnt

scheme for independent midwhves would position the government as the

underwriter of the independdnt sector.

The government says it can't justify spending this kind of public money.

By failing to support peopld like, important chases `` choices are

being taken away from indepdndent mothers.

Two men are seriously ill in hospital after being stabbed in

Wisbech. Police sealed off the area around the site of the attack, which

happened early today in Orange Grove. A man and a woman, both in

their 20s, have been arrestdd on suspicion of attempted murddr.

Senior health figures say the public's got nothing to fear after

it was revealed there's been a cluster of tuberculosis casds in the

Fens. There have been seventeen cases in two years among workers at

two vegetable`packing factories in the Chatteris area. One victim has

died. The factories haven't been named. Experts say the wider public

are not at risk. Thousands of Cambridge Unitdd fans

travelled to Wembley today to see their side finally take the FA

Trophy. They beat Gosport 4`0 to lift the silverware which h`s eluded

them at two previous finals. Phil Daley was there.

It was third time lucky for Cambridgeshire at Wembley this

afternoon after a four nil victory over Gosport Borough. Their striker

almost got them inside four minutes but they had to wait a little bit

longer to score before half`time. After half`time just five mhnutes

into the second half, it was too nil to Cambridge. After shots on the

Gosport goal he got his second goal of the game making it three mill. He

gave the spot kick to Luke Perry after they were awarded a drop kick.

Incredible. They earned thelselves a piece of silverware but the ambition

remains to make it into the football league next season. For now, a

trophy in the Cabinet after a Wembley final.

Elsewhere this weekend, there have been some big wins and some big

fightbacks. Shaun Peel has ` round up of the action.

side to win `` win over Sunderland. The win lifts them to a nosd

bleeding 13th with a 7`point cushion. Ipswich towns to nhl win

was a huge win with goals from Smith and Murphy. McCarthy says the

play`offs are still on but let's see where we are at the end of the week

after Derby and forest. In league win with Peterborough losing, there

was a three one win at Stevdnage. Dean Lewington got the winndr. They

are now just three points from the posh deals with Stevenage sdcond

from bottom. In league two, and own goal gifted Northampton a phnt at

Morecambe leaving them four points from safety.

Our region put its trainers on for charity today. Our own Susid

Fowler`Watt got the Norwich Sport Relief Mile underway.

Hundreds turned out at events right across East Anglia. Runners could

choose one`, three` or six`lile routes. Friday's BBC Sport Relief

show raised an incredible ?41 million.

Good evening. One of the coldest nights for a while. Showers will

continue but then it will bd dry and clear with temperatures dropping to

freezing. Frost to start thd day tomorrow. Plenty of sunshind around

and it will be tried at temperatures not getting very far only up to

double figures. It will rem`in chilly for the rest of the week

Will be rain on Monday and Tuesday and a cold north`easterly whnd

setting up through the middle part of the week.
