Hello, I'm Shaun Peel. First this evening, part of the old military

garrison in Colchester has been gutted by a major fire. Fird crews

were called to the block off Butt Road just after midnight. The cause

is being investigated. These were the scenes at thd height

of the blaze during the early hours of this morning. The video was shot

by a local resident. Seven crews were called to fight the fire, which

had engulfed the Grade`II lhsted building just after midnight. 3

homes nearby had to be evactated. The site was empty and was hn the

process of being converted hnto housing. The smoke was just getting

thicker and thicker and thicker It was really acrid, it really got in

your throat and in your eyes. And then the next thing we know, as the

roof went in, it just, the flames just leapt higher. The senior fire

officer at the scene said the blaze was "raging" on the ground floor

when crews arrived. It was extinguished at around 4:45`m. The

building is part of Colchester's heritage. The sergeants' mess is a

very important room in its own right, is part of the fabric of

Colchester's military history, so it is really sad that this has

happened. And not only that, just over the road from here is ` very

historically significant site, not just for Colchester, but for the

whole country, where the Rolan circus used to be. Nobody w`s

injured and a small number of firefighters remained on site this

morning to dampen any hotspots. The cause of the fire is unknown and an

investigation is underway. A crash on the A1 in Hertfordshire

has left one man dead and a woman and two children seriously hnjured..

It happened near Junction sdven outside Stevenage at around 11: 0pm

last night. Four people werd in the car involved. The man died `t the

scene and the woman was takdn to hospital by air ambulance.

Football and in the Premier League, Norwich lost 1`0 at Fulham. Once

again, misery for Norwich, now face Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea and

Arsenal to save themselves. Fulham's Hugo Rodallega scored the only goal

of the game just before half time. Ricky Van Wolfswinkel was ddnied

with a point`blank save and Robert Snodgress hit the bar. It ldaves

Norwich perched on the dottdd line, just two points clear of thd drop.

In the Championship, Ipswich Town are banging on the door of the

play`offs after a 2`1 win over Doncaster. Daryl Murphy and Luke

Chambers the scorers. Ipswich are now just out of the top six, but

only on goal difference. In League One, MK Dons are nine

points behind the pack after losing 2`0 at home to Crawley. Petdrborough

look good for the play`offs, though, with a 1`0 win over Coventrx.

Colchester won 3`2 at Stevenage which gives them a three`pohnt

cushion, but leaves Stevenage four points adrift at the bottom of the

table. And in League Two, Northampton beat

Burton 1`0 and only goal difference is keeping them in the relegation

zone now. Southend lost 1`0 at home to Wimbledon but stay sixth.

Luton missed the chance to gain promotion to the Football Ldague

today. There were more than 10, 00 at Kenilworth Road, but the

champagne corks stayed in as Luton lost 3`2 to Braintree, who `re

and dry weather, just one or two spots of rain out towards the coast.

break up and we will get sole clear spells. That will allow the

temperature to drop. There hs a slim chance in the more rural locations,

the more sheltered spots, wd may actually get a sparkle or two of

grass frost tomorrow so any tender plants are worth protecting. So some

sunny spells first thing tolorrow, bright and sunny start. The wind

remains light tomorrow as wdll. The cloud starts to bubble up as we go

through the afternoon. Tempdratures feeling really quite nice, `nd in

the sunshine, a maximum of `round 15 Celsius. High pressure dominates our

weather as we head into the new week, which means plenty of sunny

spells and temperatures agahn remaining similar.
