Hello and welcome to tonight's late news.

:00:00.:00:00.

The search for Corrie McKeague comes to Cambridge.

:00:00.:00:07.

As this landfill site is searched as part of the investigation.

:00:08.:00:11.

More money for science and a rates rebate

:00:12.:00:13.

And fine weather on the way for tomorrow, all the details coming up

:00:14.:00:27.

Specialist investigators are at a landfill site near Cambridge,

:00:28.:00:34.

as the search for missing airman Corrie McKeague continues.

:00:35.:00:37.

The 23-year-old went missing in September

:00:38.:00:39.

after a night out in Bury St Edmunds.

:00:40.:00:42.

Yesterday, police admitted that a waste-disposal truck,

:00:43.:00:45.

spotted close to where he was last seen,

:00:46.:00:48.

was carrying a heavier load than first thought.

:00:49.:00:53.

It's now feared the truck may have picked up Mr McKeague's body.

:00:54.:00:56.

Slowly and methodically, specially trained officers carefully rake

:00:57.:01:02.

through waste, mindful that just below them

:01:03.:01:05.

could lie the remains of Corrie McKeague.

:01:06.:01:07.

Nearby, a digger waits to collect it after each search.

:01:08.:01:10.

Scented air is fanned across the site to mask the smell.

:01:11.:01:14.

To search this area, we are using the

:01:15.:01:16.

digger to draw out the waste, to lay it out on the ground carefully.

:01:17.:01:19.

Katie Elliot from Suffolk Police has led a five-month investigation.

:01:20.:01:26.

She is confident her team will find Corrie here.

:01:27.:01:28.

To the right, a site for household waste.

:01:29.:01:32.

And further in, police have set up a compound for the search

:01:33.:01:36.

teams, from which a specially built access route leads to the search

:01:37.:01:39.

site, 920 square metres and eight metres deep.

:01:40.:01:43.

This is the last image of the 22-year-old air man in the early

:01:44.:01:47.

Corrie went missing from this area of Bury St Edmunds, a rubbish lorry

:01:48.:01:52.

made a collection from here within an hour of his disappearance.

:01:53.:01:55.

The last movements of his mobile phone

:01:56.:01:59.

coincided with the route the lorry took to the landfall.

:02:00.:02:02.

Nicola Urquhart, who has led the public search for her son, has

:02:03.:02:05.

steeled herself for this moment, but it is still devastating.

:02:06.:02:08.

Because when you don't know, you can still believe

:02:09.:02:12.

Police say the error over the bin's weight was made by

:02:13.:02:30.

the waste company, who provided the data.

:02:31.:02:32.

They say there was no intention to mislead the

:02:33.:02:35.

Has police known at the outset that the true weight of

:02:36.:02:44.

the bin, how different would this investigation be?

:02:45.:02:49.

It also begs two other questions - firstly, why did it

:02:50.:02:52.

take more than five months for this fact to emerge?

:02:53.:02:54.

And secondly, if Corrie was in that bin, how can

:02:55.:02:56.

a body have been taken to a landfill like this

:02:57.:02:59.

If that is what has happened, then we need to understand

:03:00.:03:07.

how that happened and understand the circumstances of

:03:08.:03:09.

In five months, police only made one arrest.

:03:10.:03:15.

Last week they questioned a man reported to be from the bin firm

:03:16.:03:18.

on suspicion of attempting to pervert because of justice.

:03:19.:03:23.

Both men have been told they will face no

:03:24.:03:29.

All eyes are now focused on this landfill site near

:03:30.:03:34.

Corrie McKeague's family are praying for the best, but are now

:03:35.:03:37.

Phillip Hammond has unveiled his first Budget as Chancellor.

:03:38.:03:43.

And, as expected, there's more money for the NHS,

:03:44.:03:45.

with an extra ?2 billion earmarked for social care.

:03:46.:03:48.

Over the next three years, hospitals will also benefit,

:03:49.:03:50.

with ?100 million, buying in more GPs to work in A E

:03:51.:03:53.

Science and research and development is another winner,

:03:54.:03:56.

with ?270 million funding new technologies.

:03:57.:03:57.

And a further ?300 million helping to create up to 1,000 PhD places.

:03:58.:04:00.

But it was business rates that were the key concern

:04:01.:04:03.

He's used to counting the pennies as well as pulling the pints and

:04:04.:04:13.

today, this publican had some good news to celebrate.

:04:14.:04:16.

The Chancellor confirming that pubs across the

:04:17.:04:17.

country would be given a ?1000 discount on their business rates.

:04:18.:04:20.

Anything is a help and, yeah, ?1000, to some people is a lot of money.

:04:21.:04:24.

In the great scheme of things, I don't

:04:25.:04:26.

suppose it's too much, but anything is a great help.

:04:27.:04:32.

Jethro currently pays ?20,000 a year as like many, he

:04:33.:04:35.

Across this region, the majority of businesses

:04:36.:04:44.

Only four areas will see a rise of up to 50%.

:04:45.:04:48.

The Government had been lambasted for what was

:04:49.:04:50.

They have today pledged to spread that

:04:51.:04:53.

What the Chancellor also announced, he was going to set up a

:04:54.:04:57.

review into what the digital based companies pay, because at the

:04:58.:05:00.

moment, it is those who have physical shops or warehouses or

:05:01.:05:04.

factory premises that paid the rates.

:05:05.:05:07.

It good news for the technology and research and

:05:08.:05:10.

With ?270 million earmarked for a robotics and

:05:11.:05:15.

Some of that money is likely to come to this region.

:05:16.:05:21.

Social care got by far the biggest windfall of the budget.

:05:22.:05:23.

?2 billion of the next three years, keeping

:05:24.:05:26.

people out of hospital and caring for the elderly.

:05:27.:05:33.

A critical way this new money will be spent

:05:34.:05:35.

will be trying to get people out of hospital

:05:36.:05:38.

Places in care homes, or domiciliary care homes, like the

:05:39.:05:46.

ones we provide, should be the first port of call for this money.

:05:47.:05:49.

Money gets too little and too late according to Labour.

:05:50.:05:52.

?1 billion, when ?5 billion has been taken out

:05:53.:05:54.

of the last few years, is tiny, frankly.

:05:55.:05:56.

Anything is welcome, but this is a sticking plaster for a

:05:57.:05:59.

The detail of how many of today's announcements will play out is still

:06:00.:06:03.

unknown, but for this publican at least more money

:06:04.:06:05.

Our Political Correspondent Andrew Sinclair has been

:06:06.:06:11.

What stands out for you in this Budget?

:06:12.:06:21.

And those who were worried about the increase in business rates power

:06:22.:06:28.

among the winners today. Social care has done pretty well. Tonight, our

:06:29.:06:33.

money going into social care, money going into social care,

:06:34.:06:36.

although they are pointing out that this is only a temporary solution.

:06:37.:06:42.

It doesn't solve the long-term funding crisis. The Government has

:06:43.:06:46.

a consultation into the future a consultation into the future

:06:47.:06:50.

funding of social care. There is more money for hospitals to help

:06:51.:06:53.

them cope with the growing pressures this winter in a empty. These are

:06:54.:06:58.

all becoming very big problems in our region. Local MPs like them

:06:59.:07:02.

mother-to-be template and he listened.

:07:03.:07:03.

Were there any local spending announcements today?

:07:04.:07:09.

No, we will get local detail in the weeks to come. The money into

:07:10.:07:16.

research and development is very research and development is very

:07:17.:07:18.

significant and I'm told to get a lot of that coming our way. The

:07:19.:07:22.

Chancellor said today those are things like research and development

:07:23.:07:28.

space we search, driverless cars, all things that we are very good at

:07:29.:07:29.

here in the east. Thank you, Andrew. A pioneering sexual

:07:30.:07:33.

assault referral centre has been officially opened

:07:34.:07:34.

at Hinchingbrooke Hospital today. The Elms aims to put

:07:35.:07:36.

the victim first by focusing on their

:07:37.:07:39.

health and wellbeing, while at the same time gathering

:07:40.:07:40.

evidence for prosecution. Louise Hubball has been

:07:41.:07:42.

to take a look around. Opened today by Baroness Newlove,

:07:43.:07:45.

the Government's Her husband, Gary,

:07:46.:07:47.

was murdered ten years ago. For her, this new centre

:07:48.:07:55.

for such a assault victims is a national model, merging

:07:56.:07:58.

police and medical care under one So, I think it works very well,

:07:59.:08:01.

because there is nothing worse It means having the strength to go

:08:02.:08:09.

and visit another place to speak to another individual, where

:08:10.:08:17.

this builds on the relationship. This is from the

:08:18.:08:19.

victims' perspective. This whole centre is

:08:20.:08:20.

focused on the victim. There are examination

:08:21.:08:22.

rooms with those who have just been attacked,

:08:23.:08:24.

and also homely counselling spaces. This young women was

:08:25.:08:26.

raped and has been supported by a similar

:08:27.:08:28.

referral centre. Her words, spoken by an actor,

:08:29.:08:30.

to protect her identity. There was a nurse

:08:31.:08:32.

and a support worker. They made me feel at

:08:33.:08:36.

ease and examined me. The room we are in now,

:08:37.:08:38.

it's beautifully furnished. There are flowers, how

:08:39.:08:41.

much a difference does that kind of thing make when having

:08:42.:08:56.

to go through something You need to feel in a place that is

:08:57.:09:03.

warm and relaxing and bright. You don't want to be in a dreary

:09:04.:09:15.

room, where there's nothing It'll just make you feel

:09:16.:09:17.

more low and scared. What do you think about

:09:18.:09:21.

the new centre here? The purpose here is to help

:09:22.:09:23.

victims cope and recover. The presence of a video link system

:09:24.:09:25.

means they can also give evidence By having a court link room

:09:26.:09:29.

within the facility, it actually means that we can bring

:09:30.:09:32.

them into an environment where they are still feeling comfortable

:09:33.:09:35.

and calm and hopefully have some confidence around the support

:09:36.:09:37.

system that's in place. So, the importance of that is

:09:38.:09:39.

that they can give the There's also a specialised

:09:40.:09:42.

section for children. Whatever the age of those

:09:43.:09:44.

who have been abused, the goal to allow them

:09:45.:09:47.

to rebuild their lives. Members of the public

:09:48.:09:50.

in Bedfordshire are being offered free scans to test

:09:51.:09:52.

for liver disease. The mobile unit has

:09:53.:09:54.

been in Bedford today The scans aim to pick up any

:09:55.:09:56.

signs of liver damage. These areas have the highest

:09:57.:10:00.

premature death rate from liver Each year more than 200 people

:10:01.:10:02.

are admitted to Bedford Hospital It can be caused

:10:03.:10:06.

by obesity diabetes, Liver disease is know

:10:07.:10:09.

as a silent killer. That's how the region

:10:10.:10:12.

is looking tonight. But from me and the late

:10:13.:10:13.

team, good night. We'll be back with the Breakfast

:10:14.:10:17.

bulletins from 6:25am Going to keep some fairly mild

:10:18.:10:19.

temperatures over the And for tonight, for

:10:20.:10:23.

most of us, temperature is not expected to drop lower

:10:24.:10:26.

than around 7 degrees. There will be some areas of cloud

:10:27.:10:29.

coming and going, so under those clear skies, it is

:10:30.:10:31.

possible it might just get a little But on the whole, it's looking

:10:32.:10:35.

like fairly mild overnight lows. And this weather system that brought

:10:36.:10:38.

us cloud and rain first thing this morning

:10:39.:10:41.

is still to the south, but it is well at the way

:10:42.:10:43.

for tomorrow and we are expecting some

:10:44.:10:45.

fine weather across the region Maybe some patchy cloud around

:10:46.:10:47.

at first, but some good So, temperatures climbing

:10:48.:10:51.

into the mid-teens. South-westerly, initially

:10:52.:10:54.

and then swinging around Quite a noticeable

:10:55.:10:56.

breeze, but lots of fine The National weather is coming up,

:10:57.:10:59.

but here's the outlook. Hello. Spring is in the air with

:11:00.:11:09.

temperatures reaching 14 or 15 in a few spots today as they will again

:11:10.:11:14.

over the next few days. Very pleasant in the sun. The daffodils

:11:15.:11:21.

were loving that in York. More places under blue sky tomorrow and

:11:22.:11:26.

dry. Tonight heavy showers moving across Scotland on strong to gale

:11:27.:11:30.

force winds, some may clip Northern Ireland. It's a mild night in

:11:31.:11:34.

southern England and South Wales but damp and drizzly, misty with coastal

:11:35.:11:45.

and hill fog elsewhere. Temperatures in between and dry: This damp

:11:46.:11:51.

weather hangs on from parts of the Channel Islands, to Cornwall.

:11:52.:11:54.

Elsewhere, it's getting brighter in South Wales and southern England. In

:11:55.:11:57.

England, Wales and Northern Ireland some sunny

:11:58.:11:58.
