An inquest has been hearing of the horrifying moment

a four-month-old baby was snatched from his mother's arms

Archie Joe Darby died from severe head injuries after being attacked

His elder brother, Daniel-J`y, suffered life-changing injuries

The dog was owned by the boxs' aunt Claire Ferdinand who

The inquest opened today in Chelmsford.

When Archie Joe Darby's pardnts released this picture of Archie and

his brother, Daniel-Jay, they issued a statement sayhng,

"It doesn't seem real that our little Archie has gone to

heaven and our little Daniel is in intensive care."

Today, in Chelmsford, at the opening of an

inquest into Archie's death, it was revealed

David Dingel, a coroner's officer, told the hearing Archie Darby

was a four-month-old baby being held in his mother's `rms when

he was taken out of his mother's arms by the family dog and `ttacked.

The hearing was told that a postmortem examination took place

The provisional cause of de`th was severe head injuries

These are Staffordshire bull terriers similar

to the family dog that attacked Archie Darby at this house

This afternoon, the boys' atnt Claire Ferdinand confirmed she owned

the dog and also confirmed she's a serving police officer.

Essex Police say they are continuing to investigate

the facts but they have also said the investigation is not a

criminal one and is unlikelx to be in the future.

Officers say an examination of the dog's body has found nothing

that could explain why the attack happened.

Meanwhile, Archie's brother, Daniel-Jay,

is still recovering in hosphtal with his parents after undergoing surgery

to treat what police describe as life changing injuries.

In that statement, the boys' aunt Claire Ferdinand

issued on behalf of her and her husband, she said,

and would never have risked the lives of our precious ndphews.

It was our dog that did this and we will have to

carry that burden and learn to cope with it."
