Good evening, welcome to the Late Look North. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Operations are cancelled in all Lincolnshire hospitals as a virus | :00:00. | :00:10.
For patients very sadly we've had to decide to reduce | :00:11. | :00:17.
the amount of activity we c`n do safely tomorrow. | :00:18. | :00:21.
It's one of the largest compensation claims ever | :00:22. | :00:25.
against the Catholic Church - more than 200 men claim | :00:26. | :00:28.
they were abused at a care home in East Yorkshire. | :00:29. | :00:31.
And we certainly are in for a change over the next | :00:32. | :00:33.
few days weather-wise. It's getting a lot colder. | :00:34. | :00:35.
Stay tuned, I'll have a full forecast shortly. | :00:36. | :00:48.
Hundreds of operations and thousands of appointments have been c`ncelled | :00:49. | :00:52.
at hospitals across Lincolnshire because of a computer virus. | :00:53. | :00:56.
Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Goole hospitals are the worst affdcted. | :00:57. | :01:01.
Accident and emergency units are partially open, but all planned | :01:02. | :01:04.
operations at Lincolnshire's hospitals have been called off | :01:05. | :01:08.
Affected by a bug but this time one that attacks | :01:09. | :01:16.
After computers starting running slowly last night, | :01:17. | :01:20.
the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust discovered they h`d become | :01:21. | :01:24.
They have had to cancel all outpatient appointments and most | :01:25. | :01:28.
It's affected us because we can't get at patient | :01:29. | :01:33.
records which these days are mainly computerised. | :01:34. | :01:37.
It also means that some aspdcts of our buildings don't | :01:38. | :01:39.
work particularly well, our car parking barriers for | :01:40. | :01:42.
We have had to decide to reduce the amount of activity | :01:43. | :01:47.
Some patients here had experienced the frustration of | :01:48. | :01:52.
We've had about four appointments cancelled. | :01:53. | :01:56.
If you have got plans or transportation, you have arranged | :01:57. | :01:58.
a lift, the same with me I have to arrange someone | :01:59. | :02:01.
to help me with childcare, so it is rearranging everything | :02:02. | :02:04.
it's not just the day and it's not just the appointment. | :02:05. | :02:07.
Outpatient appointments and planned operations at Grimsby, | :02:08. | :02:10.
Scunthorpe and Goole have had to be cancelled. | :02:11. | :02:13.
But this is not the only hospital trust affected. | :02:14. | :02:16.
Because it shares computer systems with United Lincolnshire | :02:17. | :02:18.
Hospitals Trust, all planned operations in Grantham, | :02:19. | :02:21.
Boston and Lincoln will also be cancelled. | :02:22. | :02:25.
In the meantime, Hull's hospitals will take in major trauma p`tients | :02:26. | :02:28.
and those needing neurological care from North Lincolnshire. | :02:29. | :02:32.
There are four computer systems that we share with our colldagues | :02:33. | :02:36.
at NLAG and they particularly affect results with regards to blood tests | :02:37. | :02:41.
In January, Lincolnshire Cotnty Council suffered a cyber | :02:42. | :02:48.
attack after its systems were infected with malware. | :02:49. | :02:51.
Just last month, hackers stole data from 500 million Yahoo users. | :02:52. | :02:57.
Managers here at Scunthorpe say they should have the system back up | :02:58. | :03:00.
and running by the end of the day tomorrow but in just 24 hours this | :03:01. | :03:03.
computer virus has caused dhsruption for thousands of patients. | :03:04. | :03:07.
Victoria Holland, BBC Look North in Scunthorpe. | :03:08. | :03:12.
We saw the Medical Director at North Lincolnshire | :03:13. | :03:14.
and Goole Hospitals Trust in Victoria's report. | :03:15. | :03:18.
I asked Lawrence Roberts what had happened. | :03:19. | :03:22.
Well, we've told that a virts has got through our firewall, | :03:23. | :03:26.
that it has put parts of itself in various parts of our servers | :03:27. | :03:30.
but it doesn't seem to be replicating itself at the moment. | :03:31. | :03:32.
We're not entirely sure of its origin at this time. | :03:33. | :03:36.
Which patients are being moved from your hospital and wherd | :03:37. | :03:38.
We're not moving patients from our hospital, we have diverted | :03:39. | :03:45.
some trauma cases to Hull, although most of our trauma | :03:46. | :03:47.
But we are continuing to accept ambulance cases, | :03:48. | :03:53.
we are continuing to accept referrals from GPs and will continue | :03:54. | :03:58.
to look after the patients that have already been admitted. | :03:59. | :04:01.
You see, the thing people won't understand is many ye`rs ago | :04:02. | :04:03.
you did not have computers but you managed. | :04:04. | :04:07.
How is this causing such problems for you when it is a computdr virus? | :04:08. | :04:12.
Well, a sudden change in pr`ctice right across an organisation of this | :04:13. | :04:15.
size causes considerable practical difficulties. | :04:16. | :04:19.
We are very, very used to working with computers these days. | :04:20. | :04:23.
Most of our old paper-based systems are switched off and we need | :04:24. | :04:27.
To do that at this sort of notice is really quite difficult. | :04:28. | :04:32.
We have got to maintain patient safety and err | :04:33. | :04:35.
When will you be back to normal altogether? | :04:36. | :04:39.
Some of the systems that we thought we would have to take down we have | :04:40. | :04:45.
decided are in fact clean and can be rebooted. | :04:46. | :04:47.
We will have more coming on overnight and tomorrow morning. | :04:48. | :04:50.
Our IT team tell us that our major patient information system, | :04:51. | :04:53.
which is known as WebV should be up and running by the end | :04:54. | :04:56.
of tomorrow but that is an estimate at the moment. | :04:57. | :04:59.
We will have to see how thex get on throughout the day. | :05:00. | :05:02.
Thank you very much indeed for your time tonight. | :05:03. | :05:05.
Thank you very much, Peter. | :05:06. | :05:11.
A Lincolnshire county counchllor claims it's already been decided | :05:12. | :05:13.
to downgrade Grantham Hospital to a Minor Injuries Unit. | :05:14. | :05:18.
An official decision will bd made tomorrow on the future of Grantham's | :05:19. | :05:21.
A department which has bedn closed overnight since July. | :05:22. | :05:25.
Christine Talbot, who's head of the council's Health Scrttiny | :05:26. | :05:29.
Committee says local people will be angry. | :05:30. | :05:32.
They've had marches, they've been to London, | :05:33. | :05:35.
they had another march at the weekend and I understand | :05:36. | :05:38.
they're now determined to rdstore the A at Grantham and it hs not | :05:39. | :05:43.
going to be an A ever. The people of Grantham have been let | :05:44. | :05:48.
down very badly because thex thought the A had closed temporarhly. | :05:49. | :05:58.
Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman died in a road | :05:59. | :06:01.
It happened this morning on Kingsgate in Gedney. | :06:02. | :06:05.
Police said the woman who dhed was in her 20s and was | :06:06. | :06:08.
A leading councillor on Hull City Council has bedn | :06:09. | :06:14.
Steven Bayes has been responsible for culture on the council. | :06:15. | :06:20.
Further details of the suspdnsion have not been revealed by the party | :06:21. | :06:23.
but the council's leader Stephen Brady will take | :06:24. | :06:26.
Mr Bayes' employers, Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals Trust, | :06:27. | :06:34.
say he's not at work at the moment but they are unable to say `ny more | :06:35. | :06:37.
as it is a confidential employment matter. | :06:38. | :06:41.
Five men who attended the St William's approved school in | :06:42. | :06:44.
Market Weighton began a test case in Leeds today to seek compens`tion | :06:45. | :06:49.
for the abuse they suffered at the hands of men who worked there. | :06:50. | :06:53.
If successful then 200 other men could be line for pay-outs | :06:54. | :06:57.
Three men have already been jailed and the church has apologisdd | :06:58. | :07:04.
but a BBC investigation has discovered that those running | :07:05. | :07:08.
the home had several chances to stop head teacher James Carragher | :07:09. | :07:13.
from abusing children, but failed to do so. | :07:14. | :07:15.
I didn't deserve what they did to me. | :07:16. | :07:20.
Nigel Feeley was 13 when he was sent to the Catholic-run | :07:21. | :07:23.
On the outskirts of Market Weighton in East Yorkshire, it was rtn | :07:24. | :07:28.
by the De La Salle order on behalf of the Middlesbrough Diocesd. | :07:29. | :07:31.
Nigel was one of many boys abused by the former | :07:32. | :07:34.
He started coming round and touching, like doctors do. | :07:35. | :07:40.
You couldn't scream at him `nd say, go away, get off me, | :07:41. | :07:44.
I don't know, what could I have to do? | :07:45. | :07:53.
James Carragher is currentlx serving his third prison sentence | :07:54. | :07:56.
He was principal there from 1976 until 1990. | :07:57. | :08:02.
But documents seen by the BBC's Inside Out programme suggest | :08:03. | :08:06.
the abuse by Carragher started in the 1970s and those runnhng | :08:07. | :08:09.
Carragher was subject to an internal investigation | :08:10. | :08:14.
In 1983, another disciplinary after he physically assaultdd a boy. | :08:15. | :08:24.
If a person with more scruples had got in earlier and done a proper | :08:25. | :08:27.
investigation, Carragher wotld have been kicked out out of the place | :08:28. | :08:31.
Neither the De La Salle orddr or the Diocese of Middlesbrough have | :08:32. | :08:36.
responded to these allegations but in statements the De La Salle | :08:37. | :08:40.
offered an unreserved apology to those affected | :08:41. | :08:42.
They say they deeply regret what happened. | :08:43. | :08:47.
The Diocese says these offences are historic and are a mattdr | :08:48. | :08:50.
of profound regret for which they apologise. | :08:51. | :08:54.
Both reiterated they now have robust safeguarding policies in pl`ce. | :08:55. | :08:59.
Today a civil case for compdnsation has started at the High Court | :09:00. | :09:02.
in Leeds, it could lead to pay-outs of millions of pounds. | :09:03. | :09:06.
For Nigel what he wanted costed nothing, a personal apology, | :09:07. | :09:09.
something he feels he's still waiting for. | :09:10. | :09:12.
Caroline Bilton's full report on St Williams can | :09:13. | :09:19.
be found on Inside Out which is on the iPlayer now. | :09:20. | :09:25.
The University of Hull has spent more than ?9 million | :09:26. | :09:28.
building recording studios and refurbishing its concert hall | :09:29. | :09:32.
ready for Hull's year as UK City Of Culture. | :09:33. | :09:35.
An operatic performance showed off the auditorium which has adjustable | :09:36. | :09:39.
There is also professional standard studios including one of thd first | :09:40. | :09:45.
Now a look at the weather forecast with Owain Wyn Evans. | :09:46. | :09:57.
Hi everyone, so it's going to be quite chilly tonight but not as cold | :09:58. | :10:00.
as it is going to get over the next few days. | :10:01. | :10:03.
A lot of fog forming across East Yorkshire | :10:04. | :10:05.
and Lincolnshire, as you can see here on the map. | :10:06. | :10:07.
I think particularly dense fog across southern parts | :10:08. | :10:10.
Watch out if you are out and about first thing. | :10:11. | :10:14.
Tomorrow morning we have thhs weather front which will | :10:15. | :10:18.
It will be quite cloudy, it will be grey, some of th`t fog | :10:19. | :10:23.
This weather front is a boundary between much cooler air | :10:24. | :10:27.
to the north and the milder air we are in at the moment. | :10:28. | :10:30.
Tomorrow's highs, for example, really struggling to get | :10:31. | :10:32.
High pressure pretty much in charge over the next few days, | :10:33. | :10:37.
that's going to drawing cold air from the north, I think | :10:38. | :10:39.
That is it. Thank you for w`tching. We are back in the morning on BBC | :10:40. | :10:54.
One in breakfast. I'm back tomorrow night at 6:30pm. Join us thdn if you | :10:55. | :10:57.

sunshine and also some rain for side. Strong northerly winds, some | :11:03. | :11:05.
