Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North.

:00:08.:00:09.

Thousands of people have turned out in Grantham,

:00:10.:00:14.

to protest against overnight closures at the town's

:00:15.:00:16.

Residents and local politichans marched through the centre of town

:00:17.:00:20.

in protest at the closures , which the hospital trust saxs

:00:21.:00:23.

is because of a shortage of available doctors.

:00:24.:00:25.

In this town, there are thotsands of people willing to fight to keep

:00:26.:00:33.

the local A Department opdn 2 hours a day.

:00:34.:00:37.

But there's a shortage of doctors available to work it.

:00:38.:00:39.

CHANTING No ifs, no buts, no A cuts.

:00:40.:00:43.

Health bosses say this is why they've closed the accident

:00:44.:00:46.

But that response hasn't satisfied campaigners who turned out

:00:47.:00:52.

in Grantham for their biggest protest yet.

:00:53.:00:55.

Other hospitals are managing, so why aren't ours?

:00:56.:00:58.

The people of this area feel passionately about our hosphtal

:00:59.:01:02.

services and our accident and emergency unit.

:01:03.:01:05.

Traditionally, more patients use A departments in Lincoln and Boston,

:01:06.:01:08.

but many here today are amongst the thousands who've used

:01:09.:01:14.

Grantham's department at times during the night.

:01:15.:01:16.

We're not as not as young as we were, and things happdn more

:01:17.:01:22.

We're not as young as we were, and things happen more

:01:23.:01:25.

So we are more conscious of the fact that the nearest places

:01:26.:01:29.

are Lincoln or Nottingham, and they are very

:01:30.:01:31.

Each time as a family we've used the hospital, it's

:01:32.:01:34.

You don't have a heart attack at ten o'clock in the morning, do xou?

:01:35.:01:39.

So you've got to support it, we don't want to lose it at all

:01:40.:01:43.

The United Lincolnshire Hospital Trust says it supports the right

:01:44.:01:45.

of people protesting today, adding that the decision

:01:46.:01:48.

to temporarily change the opening hours of A was not an easx one,

:01:49.:01:51.

but it was made to protect patients and maintain safe services.

:01:52.:01:53.

When the department's part-time closure was announced this summer,

:01:54.:01:55.

it was expected to last thrde months, but many here await

:01:56.:01:59.

a decision over whether it will remain in place for longer -

:02:00.:02:03.

something clinical directors at the trust are recommending.

:02:04.:02:06.

Jill Archbold, BBC Look North in Grantham.

:02:07.:02:12.

And there's been a march in Leicester today,

:02:13.:02:15.

against the closure of a chhldren's heart unit there.

:02:16.:02:17.

The ward at Glenfield Hospital, which is used by families

:02:18.:02:20.

from Lincolnshire, has to close by April due to

:02:21.:02:22.

Hundreds marched through thd town to protest against the clostre.

:02:23.:02:29.

She's got congenital heart defect and she had surgery at Glenfield

:02:30.:02:34.

So we've just got to fight to keep it there for anyone else th`t needs

:02:35.:02:39.

Armed police have responded to an incident in Scunthorpd

:02:40.:02:48.

in the last couple of hours, close to the Screwfix

:02:49.:02:51.

Officers say that the situation was resolved peacefully,

:02:52.:02:54.

and that there was never any risk to the public.

:02:55.:03:00.

Two of our MPs are among a group of 90 who are calling for a better

:03:01.:03:04.

East Yorkshire MP Sir Greg Knight and Scunthorpe's Nic Dakin

:03:05.:03:08.

want people to be able to roam between different providers

:03:09.:03:11.

in poor signal areas to improve coverage.

:03:12.:03:14.

They're part of the British Infrastructure Group

:03:15.:03:16.

campaigning for the change, which is led by MP Grant Sh`pps

:03:17.:03:21.

It can't be right that if you have a foreign Sim c`rd,

:03:22.:03:24.

a French Sim card, you can get coverage in the UK that a Brit can't

:03:25.:03:28.

These are "not-spots" - places you can't get any

:03:29.:03:31.

And if we need to do that through national roaming,

:03:32.:03:35.

well, that has to be the way forward.

:03:36.:03:37.

Pleasure Island in Cleethorpes says it's last goodbye tonight.

:03:38.:03:39.

The theme park has been a fixture on the North East

:03:40.:03:42.

Lincolnshire coast for decades but is closing due to

:03:43.:03:44.

It had its last full day of operating earlier this wdek,

:03:45.:03:52.

but will say goodbye with a fireworks display this evdning.

:03:53.:03:55.

Time for the weather with Abbie Dewhurst.

:03:56.:04:21.

A largely dry night to come overnight tonight.

:04:22.:04:25.

It will be quite cloudy thotgh, all this cloud meaning tempdratures

:04:26.:04:27.

Most places will stay in double figures.

:04:28.:04:31.

But we could still see a cotple of clear spells and this is where

:04:32.:04:34.

That fog could be quite dense so take care if you are heading out

:04:35.:04:39.

The cloud will thin and bre`k up through the afternoon, though.

:04:40.:04:45.

So we should see the odd brighter spell.

:04:46.:04:47.

Temperatures at around 15 Celsius, 59 Fahrenheit.

:04:48.:04:49.

And don't forget to put those clocks back.

:04:50.:04:54.

We're back early tomorrow evening with all your latest news

:04:55.:04:59.

Good evening, it has been a rather cloudy but certainly very mild day.

:05:00.:05:20.

In fact where we did see sunshine breaking through, in Hull for

:05:21.:05:25.

instance, temperatures rose as high as 19 degrees, more typical of the

:05:26.:05:28.

middle of August and late October. Things remaining mild and largely

:05:29.:05:33.

dry down to this big area of high pressure really dominating the

:05:34.:05:36.

weather. Bringing light winds. Still a lot of ploughed through this

:05:37.:05:40.

evening and overnight. A few spots of drizzle coming out of the cloud,

:05:41.:05:44.

three central parts of England and Wales. Scattered showers towards the

:05:45.:05:48.

far north-west of Scotland and Northern Ireland. Where we see clear

:05:49.:05:52.

spells we the seat missed. Locally dense fog patches especially across

:05:53.:05:55.

parts of the south-east of England and East

:05:56.:05:57.
