Hello and welcome to Wednesday's Look North. Tonight: Jailed for a | :00:00. | :00:14.
total of 27 years, the gang of tradesman who made horrific threats | :00:15. | :00:20.
to their victims. It destroxed their lives. Their businesses had to be | :00:21. | :00:25.
closed. The search for missing teacher Mark | :00:26. | :00:29.
Bushnell switches to a caravan park. We're live from the scene whth | :00:30. | :00:31.
tonight's latest developments. We have lift off. A group of science | :00:32. | :00:35.
students launch a camera laden balloon into the stratosphere. | :00:36. | :00:47.
# Do you miss me tonight? # And Top of the Pops. How 96`year`old Gladys | :00:48. | :00:52.
won a national song contest. In sport, there's an anxious wait | :00:53. | :00:56.
for Alan Pardew. A new man `t the top at Sunderland and... More bad | :00:57. | :00:59.
luck for Boro as Forest hand themselves a point! | :01:00. | :01:13.
A gang of four men who thre`tened their victims with extreme violence, | :01:14. | :01:18.
including castration and rape, have been sentenced to a total of 27 | :01:19. | :01:23.
years in jail. They bullied small businesses into carrying out repair | :01:24. | :01:27.
work and then demanded cash for it. Terence Cunningham Senior and three | :01:28. | :01:30.
others targeted 13 businessds in all. They were finally caught by the | :01:31. | :01:35.
North East Regional Serious Operations Unit after they struck in | :01:36. | :01:40.
Newcastle. And today the men were locked up by a judge at the city's | :01:41. | :01:43.
Crown Court. Adrian Pitches joins us live from there now. Adrian. | :01:44. | :01:51.
This gang operated across nhne counties from Devon to Tyneside | :01:52. | :01:57.
They had operations in Birmhngham and Sheffield. It wasn't until they | :01:58. | :02:00.
tried their scam in the north`east that they were tackled and brought | :02:01. | :02:05.
to book. They threatened thdir terrified victims with the lost vile | :02:06. | :02:11.
threats. They demanded ?168,000 and, over the course of this 12 lonths | :02:12. | :02:15.
can, they made 62,000 beford they were brought to book. | :02:16. | :02:21.
This is the gang's leader, Terence Cunningham senior. Here, cotnting a | :02:22. | :02:28.
large bundle of note, he is topping up his mobile phone. Then, `s he | :02:29. | :02:34.
heads off in his white Mercddes he calls his victims. He threatens to | :02:35. | :02:35.
castrate them if they don't pay up. This wasn't the only thread. | :02:36. | :03:03.
Businesses were told, if thdy didn't pay up, they could expect another | :03:04. | :03:11.
scene like this. One victim was so terrified, she handed over ?19, 00 | :03:12. | :03:16.
for a couple of hours work, just so the threats would stop. Another | :03:17. | :03:20.
victim feared for the safetx of his family. I was terrified, re`lly | :03:21. | :03:26.
scared. They said they were watching my kids. They just kept calling | :03:27. | :03:30.
swearing and being abusive. He told me there again to castrate le. Every | :03:31. | :03:36.
time the phone went, I felt scared. Terence Cunningham senior w`s held | :03:37. | :03:40.
by another man, William Adals. Together they admit... Other gang | :03:41. | :03:48.
members carried out the work. Every time, they used the same tactic | :03:49. | :03:53.
They find places where councillors were carrying out work, then they | :03:54. | :03:59.
said they had some spare tile. They would offer for ?100 to fill in | :04:00. | :04:04.
potholes and resurfaced risd. Even if people said no, and many did | :04:05. | :04:08.
they would carry out the work anyway. Then the demands wotld start | :04:09. | :04:12.
on the threats. They would lake hundreds of phone calls all day and | :04:13. | :04:15.
all night. They falsely clahmed they were the king of the Gypsies Paddy | :04:16. | :04:21.
Dougherty, a former bare`kntckle boxer who appeared on televhsion. | :04:22. | :04:27.
They used his reputation to back their violent threats. It ddstroyed | :04:28. | :04:33.
their lives for the period of time their threats were ongoing. They | :04:34. | :04:36.
could not get on with this normal business. The businesses had to be | :04:37. | :04:40.
closed which was evident in the North East region in partictlar | :04:41. | :04:45.
Eventually, some people gavd up and paid the money. What was | :04:46. | :04:48.
particularly sinister was on a couple of occasions, when the police | :04:49. | :04:51.
were called to the office where the threats were being made, thd | :04:52. | :04:55.
offenders actually threatendd police officers as well. They taunted | :04:56. | :05:02.
detected `` detectives. But the whole gang were finally filled | :05:03. | :05:06.
altogether at a garage near where they were working. Their mistake was | :05:07. | :05:10.
using the same cruel and vicious threats on all their victims. That | :05:11. | :05:14.
is what helped detectives lhnk them with their many crimes. | :05:15. | :05:22.
Adrian, the judge had particular praise for Northumbria Police, | :05:23. | :05:29.
didn't he? Indeed he did. The judge drdw | :05:30. | :05:34.
attention to the fact that `lthough this scam operated in nine police | :05:35. | :05:38.
force areas, it wasn't until the gang reached Tyneside, that release | :05:39. | :05:47.
actually took an active intdrest. The north`east special oper`tions | :05:48. | :05:51.
unit. The judge said that this constabulary could not have done a | :05:52. | :05:55.
better job, in contrast with the delay and inactivity of othdr | :05:56. | :05:59.
forces. He commended for thdir persistence Detective Serge`nt Adam | :06:00. | :06:04.
Turner and Detective Constable Roger Butler. He went on to say, too many | :06:05. | :06:09.
forces dismissed these scams as civil disputes, that is between a | :06:10. | :06:13.
business and another business. The people turned up too late Mhke and | :06:14. | :06:16.
then had a dispute with the people that didn't want to have his place. | :06:17. | :06:21.
Too many forces dismissed it as a civil dispute but these werd serious | :06:22. | :06:24.
criminal matters and the judge concluded they should never have | :06:25. | :06:26.
happened and should never h`ppen again. | :06:27. | :06:33.
The family and friends of a missing teacher are tonight preparing for | :06:34. | :06:37.
the worst. Mark Bushnell vanished from home on Sunday. The most recent | :06:38. | :06:41.
sighting of him was near a caravan park at Crimdon Dene on the County | :06:42. | :06:45.
Durham coast. Our news corrdspondent Peter Harris is live there for us | :06:46. | :06:51.
now. Peter. It was on these clifftops on Monday | :06:52. | :06:56.
morning that Mark Bush was last seen. If we pan around, we will see | :06:57. | :07:01.
that behind us is a caravan park and this was an area that was wdll`known | :07:02. | :07:06.
to mark. It is very popular with walkers and today, his wife and | :07:07. | :07:10.
family members have been here, joining in the police search. This | :07:11. | :07:17.
evening, we've had this upd`te. Both myself, the family and Mark's | :07:18. | :07:21.
colleagues are realistic as to what the likely outcome of this lay be. | :07:22. | :07:26.
However, we have not lost hope and our search efforts will continue. | :07:27. | :07:31.
The appeal tonight is very luch to try again and see if there hs | :07:32. | :07:34.
anybody out there that may well have seen Mark and can help us ftrther. | :07:35. | :07:41.
We know Mark is a deputy headteacher. The police are | :07:42. | :07:44.
stressing this evening, there is still hope and their search | :07:45. | :07:48.
continues. It is desperatelx cold here this evening and clearly, with | :07:49. | :07:52.
the passing of time, given that it is now two days or more since Mark | :07:53. | :07:58.
was spotted here, clearly, the hopes of a happy ending for the pdople he | :07:59. | :08:02.
worked with at the school in Durham and for his family do becomd less | :08:03. | :08:12.
realistic. GP services in one of the most | :08:13. | :08:15.
deprived areas of Newcastle have been saved for now after NHS England | :08:16. | :08:19.
stepped in to find a new management company. Holmside Medical Group | :08:20. | :08:22.
which runs a practice half ` mile away, has agreed to take ovdr | :08:23. | :08:25.
Scotswood Surgery as a temporary measure. 1,500 patients werd at risk | :08:26. | :08:28.
of losing their local GPs, `fter Primary Care North East declined to | :08:29. | :08:32.
renew its contract with the NHS to run the clinic. | :08:33. | :08:35.
She's not half the woman shd was. Kerry Trotter from Wearside was | :08:36. | :08:39.
determined to get her weight down from the 27 stone she feared would | :08:40. | :08:42.
kill her. Thanks to gastric bypass surgery, and a lot of willpower | :08:43. | :08:46.
she's now much lighter. But Kerry is fighting a new battle to have her | :08:47. | :08:49.
excess skin removed. And it seems getting it done on the NHS hs taking | :08:50. | :08:53.
longer than losing the weight in the first place. | :08:54. | :09:03.
I would say I was close to 27 stone. And then I knew I had to do | :09:04. | :09:07.
something. If I didn't do it, I would be dead in a few years. It has | :09:08. | :09:11.
either life or death. I picked life. From 27 stones to 11. Kerry Trotter | :09:12. | :09:16.
had a gastric bypass operathon two and half years ago. Before that she | :09:17. | :09:21.
could barely walk upstairs or get into these. Since the operation her | :09:22. | :09:29.
stomach is much smaller, but it still takes an iron disciplhne to | :09:30. | :09:37.
keep the weight off. It is the hardest thing I have ever done in my | :09:38. | :09:41.
life but it's the best thing I've ever done. Kerry feels she's done | :09:42. | :09:48.
her bit but now there's no way she alone can rid of this. In f`ct more | :09:49. | :09:52.
weight loss would just make it worse. It is not doing anything It | :09:53. | :09:57.
just sits. It is that fat pdrson coming back to haunt me. It is | :09:58. | :10:04.
painful. This skin is reallx sore. You cover up during the sumler | :10:05. | :10:07.
because you don't want people to see. I've got to live like this | :10:08. | :10:12.
There's nothing I can do because I cannot afford to go private. There's | :10:13. | :10:16.
no requirement for NHS Trusts to carry out the kind of surgery Kerry | :10:17. | :10:20.
needs. Some will do it on a discretionary basis. The 16 stones | :10:21. | :10:23.
she's lost is the equivalent of a Sir Steve Redgrave. And she'll be | :10:24. | :10:32.
less of a burden to the taxpayer. I would probably have been di`betic. I | :10:33. | :10:38.
probably would have been hotsebound so I would have needed people to | :10:39. | :10:41.
come out and do certain things for me. I have saved them money in the | :10:42. | :10:44.
long run. New clinical guiddlines might make excess skin reduction | :10:45. | :10:46.
more widely available. In the meantime, all Kerry can do hs wait. | :10:47. | :10:54.
The pause button has been priced on life. | :10:55. | :11:01.
Exactly 30 years today Arthtr Scargill, the leader of the National | :11:02. | :11:04.
Union of Mineworkers, called a national strike against pit | :11:05. | :11:07.
closures. It was to become one of the longest and most bitter | :11:08. | :11:10.
industrial disputes of the 20th century. After it was over, one by | :11:11. | :11:16.
one, the remaining great collieries of the North East were closdd. Well, | :11:17. | :11:19.
the Northumberland town of @shington was once the jewel in the crown of | :11:20. | :11:23.
the entire industry. Today unemployment in the area is one of | :11:24. | :11:26.
the highest in the region. @ndrew Hartley has been looking at the | :11:27. | :11:30.
impact of change for this former mining community and asks whether | :11:31. | :11:38.
life has moved on. Coal was the main thing. A coal | :11:39. | :11:42.
miner to his core. A pitman born and bred. What happened when it closed | :11:43. | :11:51.
in 1994, ?38 million was taken out of the economy... Colin Parker | :11:52. | :11:54.
worked 34 years down the mine. Now he's a guide at Woodhorn Colliery | :11:55. | :11:57.
Museum in Ashington. He says the town is still suffering frol the pit | :11:58. | :12:05.
closures. It has had a tremdndous impact. You just have to walk up the | :12:06. | :12:09.
main street to see the numbdr of shops that have closed. The biggest | :12:10. | :12:14.
employer is probably the Cotnty Council now. Ashington's pit once | :12:15. | :12:19.
employed 5,000 alone. Beford the '84 strike, many thousands more worked | :12:20. | :12:22.
nearby at Bates, Whittle, Woodhorn, Ellington. All have gone. There is | :12:23. | :12:30.
millions of tonnes of coal hn the area. We are importing coal from | :12:31. | :12:40.
abroad. Why not use our own Cole? As a former miner, it is no wonder | :12:41. | :12:45.
Colin feels so passionate about the past but what about his Jan `` | :12:46. | :12:49.
grandchildren's generation? At this high school, family ties to the pits | :12:50. | :12:59.
are still strong. But for these young people coal mining is | :13:00. | :13:02.
something that belongs in the history books. It means quite a bit | :13:03. | :13:19.
because we have to study thd miners strike for GCSE history. But we have | :13:20. | :13:27.
two `` we have visited collheries as well. The audience now is rdmoved by | :13:28. | :13:36.
about two generations. If you had come to see us ten years ago, they | :13:37. | :13:40.
would have been a different amount of pupils with a direct link. One | :13:41. | :13:49.
man who does have a personal connection is Sir John Hall, founder | :13:50. | :13:54.
of the Metro Centre. If you live in the past, you will die in the past. | :13:55. | :13:58.
We are too introverted in the north`east and we have to look | :13:59. | :14:02.
beyond our shores to ask how we get new industry here. We have to sell | :14:03. | :14:05.
ourselves better. It is no good going and telling people how many | :14:06. | :14:10.
unemployed you have in your town. Investment does not follow | :14:11. | :14:16.
unemployment. Investment... It needs to success. You have two sell your | :14:17. | :14:19.
best stories. The site of the Ashington pit is now a business | :14:20. | :14:24.
park. Little remains of the nearby Ellington site to remind yot that it | :14:25. | :14:27.
was of the this country's stper pits. But despite clear signs that | :14:28. | :14:31.
the town centre has declined, some argue that there are many rdasons to | :14:32. | :14:39.
be positive. The north`east still plays an important part in dnergy | :14:40. | :14:43.
and that is because of the dnergy we've got, with colour right at the | :14:44. | :14:46.
heart of energy. Where we are now with the work we're doing whth oil | :14:47. | :14:50.
and gas, the work we are dohng with renewables and the work we're doing | :14:51. | :14:52.
with some quite new energy sources... We are at the he`rt of a | :14:53. | :14:56.
really important part of thd economy. | :14:57. | :15:02.
Still to come this Wednesdax evening: Dawn Thewlis with tonight's | :15:03. | :15:03.
sports news. Plus... With a song in their hearts, a | :15:04. | :15:15.
96`year`old and her care worker win a national singing competithon. The | :15:16. | :15:24.
weather is giving us plenty to sing about. Tomorrow looks like ` fine | :15:25. | :15:27.
day for most. Join me later for the full story. | :15:28. | :15:32.
Now, weather wise, it was jtst the perfect day to send cameras into | :15:33. | :15:37.
space to take panoramic pictures of the earth. And that's exactly what a | :15:38. | :15:40.
group of science students from Cockermouth school in Cumbrha have | :15:41. | :15:44.
done. They gathered at first light to set up the launch pad for a | :15:45. | :15:48.
massive helium balloon which would carry cameras into the stratosphere. | :15:49. | :15:58.
So did the big launch go smoothly? This year 's GCSE students have a | :15:59. | :16:02.
lot to live up to. These sttnning images were taken by cameras sent | :16:03. | :16:06.
into space by Cockermouth students last year. So, no pressure this | :16:07. | :16:10.
morning then. Hopefully getting it back with good images. Yeah, getting | :16:11. | :16:16.
it back is our main aim now and setting off. Last`minute | :16:17. | :16:20.
preparations were hectic. Sdcuring the camera in its net and m`king | :16:21. | :16:24.
sure the balloon would sell comfortably to heights of 34,00 | :16:25. | :16:31.
metres. Eight or nine months work, right from when they had to apply | :16:32. | :16:36.
for a position on the team to recent weeks with stress and anxiety. | :16:37. | :16:42.
Students hope to capture pictures of the space and the curvature of the | :16:43. | :16:45.
Earth. The moment of departtre was one of celebration. | :16:46. | :16:57.
When you are in the moment, and you watch it go off, you think `bout all | :16:58. | :17:04.
the things going wrong. It didn t happen so, yeah. By lunchtile, the | :17:05. | :17:11.
balloon had reached 35,000 letres, before bursting. It came down over | :17:12. | :17:16.
North Yorkshire. Students hope to retrieve the cameras from there All | :17:17. | :17:18.
of them, it has been a hugely rewarding project. It's been | :17:19. | :17:23.
amazing. It's such a good experience for young people. To get involved in | :17:24. | :17:29.
engineering is amazing. To see that we have done something... It's even | :17:30. | :17:36.
gone so far. It's amazing. Great for engineering and working as ` team. | :17:37. | :17:43.
It's just amazing. I struggle with my digital radio. | :17:44. | :17:49.
Alan Pardew may not be able to draw a line under his punishment for | :17:50. | :17:54.
headbutting Hull midfielder David Meyler quite yet. The Newcastle boss | :17:55. | :18:00.
was given a seven match ban. And a ?60,000 fine yesterday by an | :18:01. | :18:02.
independent disciplinary colmission following the incident two weeks | :18:03. | :18:07.
ago. But the Football Assochation could consider appealing ag`inst the | :18:08. | :18:09.
decision if they feel it's inadequate. The ban was a rdcord for | :18:10. | :18:16.
a Premier League Manager. The FA will make a decision when they | :18:17. | :18:19.
receive the written reasons for the judgement. | :18:20. | :18:23.
Meanwhile Sunderland this afternoon confirmed the appointment of former | :18:24. | :18:26.
Chelsea chief scout Lee Congerton as the club's Sporting Director. He | :18:27. | :18:30.
arrives from German side Halburg and will, alongside Gus Poyet, oversee | :18:31. | :18:33.
transfers and the Black Cats' scouting network. Elsewhere | :18:34. | :18:37.
Middlesbrough were denied all three points in the Championship last | :18:38. | :18:40.
night by the most controversial of equalisers. | :18:41. | :18:47.
After ending their long goal drought last weekend, Boro's players were | :18:48. | :18:50.
looking for their first back to back home wins since December. Play`off | :18:51. | :18:53.
hopefuls Nottingham Forest, had lost their last three league gamds. The | :18:54. | :18:57.
home side took the lead early in the second half, a superb finish from | :18:58. | :19:06.
Mustapha Carayol. And the s`me player could have made it 2`0 with | :19:07. | :19:10.
almost a carbon copy. Boro were made to pay for not killing the game off. | :19:11. | :19:13.
After recently having a goal disallowed despite the ball crossing | :19:14. | :19:16.
the line, they were just as aggrieved when Darius Henderson | :19:17. | :19:19.
appeared to sweep the ball home with his hand late on. Handball, said | :19:20. | :19:22.
head coach Aitor Karanka. Hhs players couldn't believe thd goal | :19:23. | :19:25.
was allowed to stand either. Danny Graham hit the post seven mhnutes | :19:26. | :19:28.
from time. But the play`offs are surely just a pipe`dream for Boro | :19:29. | :19:32.
now. After two away defeats in League Two, Hartlepool boss Colin | :19:33. | :19:35.
Cooper, was pleased to see his side pick up a point and a clean`sheet | :19:36. | :19:38.
despite a toothless perform`nce in front of goal. Some resolutd | :19:39. | :19:41.
defending led by the excelldnt Christian Burgess, a loanee from | :19:42. | :19:45.
Boro, kept Accrington at bax. The performance of the night, though, | :19:46. | :19:48.
came from in`form York City although it took a controversial first`half | :19:49. | :19:51.
penalty to earn a 1`0 victory at Mansfield. After John Dempster | :19:52. | :19:53.
felled Josh Carson, Ryan Bowman converted the spot`kick. York had a | :19:54. | :19:57.
second penalty awarded for handball in stoppage time, but this time | :19:58. | :20:00.
keeper Alan Marriott foiled Wes Fletcher. | :20:01. | :20:09.
Well, let's have a look at the League Two table because York, | :20:10. | :20:13.
unbeaten now in seven games are just two points off the playoff zone | :20:14. | :20:16.
Nigel Worthington's side on a tremendous run. Hartlepool `re five | :20:17. | :20:18.
points adrift in tenth spot. Carlisle United have a hugely | :20:19. | :20:25.
important game tonight. Just one point and two places above the | :20:26. | :20:28.
League One relegation zone. They're away to Nigel Clough's Sheffield | :20:29. | :20:31.
United who beat Charlton in the quarter finals of the FA Cup at the | :20:32. | :20:35.
weekend. Carlisle are still without key players including Paul | :20:36. | :20:37.
Thirlwell, Matty Robson and Sean O'Hanlon, but are boosted | :20:38. | :20:39.
defensively after signing Rdece Brown from Watford. Midfielder Danny | :20:40. | :20:42.
Redmond and goalkeeper Jord`n Pickford are also available after | :20:43. | :20:50.
extending their loan spells. There is loads to play for. There | :20:51. | :20:55.
are 12 games. March is going to be a big month. We will be playing a lot | :20:56. | :21:01.
of teams around us which will be vital. A tough game on Wedndsday but | :21:02. | :21:05.
we hope that they will have a hangover. We are in a period with | :21:06. | :21:10.
four or five injuries to senior players but hopefully they will get | :21:11. | :21:13.
fit over the next couple of weeks and will stay with us for the | :21:14. | :21:16.
remainder of the season and we will have a very good run, staying clear | :21:17. | :21:22.
of the bottom floor. `4. Now, it might not be the Vohce or | :21:23. | :21:26.
the X Factor but the contestants are just as keen. A woman in her 90s and | :21:27. | :21:30.
her care assistant, from Cotnty Durham, have triumphed in a national | :21:31. | :21:33.
singing contest. If The pair, from Rose Lodge Care Home in Newton | :21:34. | :21:36.
Aycliffe are big Elvis fans. Jonathan Swingler has been to meet | :21:37. | :21:37.
them. # is your heart filled with pain? # | :21:38. | :21:56.
meet Gladys and Beverley. They love singing together so they | :21:57. | :21:59.
jumped the chance of entering a singing contest. We were getting | :22:00. | :22:03.
ready this morning and singhng. We were showering and I was singing. We | :22:04. | :22:10.
said we will have to learn ` few more songs because this could lead | :22:11. | :22:16.
to an album. They beat all the other contestants. In this top 40, they | :22:17. | :22:21.
are number one. I want to whn for the home. I don't want to whn for | :22:22. | :22:25.
myself or anything like that. I want to win for the home because they've | :22:26. | :22:28.
been fantastic to me. A ladx knocked on the door and she brought Gladys | :22:29. | :22:34.
Abe OK of flowers. She was overwhelmed. You've touched the | :22:35. | :22:40.
hearts of the people. I said no more flowers. She was embarrassed. But | :22:41. | :22:47.
we've done it for the home. I think care homes get such bad press and | :22:48. | :22:50.
it's so negative all the tile, there is good care that goes on hdre. You | :22:51. | :22:58.
get a feeling they were just pleased take part. | :22:59. | :23:03.
# tell me, dear, are you Lonesome tonight? # | :23:04. | :23:25.
another glorious day to day, another day of wide`ranging temperatures. | :23:26. | :23:32.
This morning, it was as cold as minus four Celsius. We also saw 15 | :23:33. | :23:40.
degrees at Newcastle Airport. Tomorrow will be another fine and | :23:41. | :23:47.
dry day for most of us. Most of us, things are getting more, located | :23:48. | :23:51.
weather`wise. Overnight tonhght is dry. Clear skies will allow mist and | :23:52. | :23:56.
fog patches to form. Some of those would be quite dense. Temperatures | :23:57. | :24:04.
will be close enough to fredzing with a touch of ground frost here | :24:05. | :24:17.
and there. Most places will be fine, dry and largely sunny again | :24:18. | :24:23.
tomorrow. Some mist may linger across the Cumbrian coast so that | :24:24. | :24:28.
will affect temperatures thdre. Elsewhere, when the sun comds out, | :24:29. | :24:38.
we will easily see 14 and 14. The wind will stay fairly light. I | :24:39. | :24:42.
pressure tries to hang on over the next few days. This weather front | :24:43. | :24:45.
becomes a bit of a nuisance as it pushes through. That will introduce | :24:46. | :24:49.
more cloud. The breeze will pick up as well. Having said that, lost | :24:50. | :24:54.
places will stay dry. If yot are right and about in Cumbria over the | :24:55. | :24:57.
next few days, there would be more cloud into the tail end of the week. | :24:58. | :25:02.
Eventually, that weather front may give us some rain. Daytime | :25:03. | :25:06.
temperatures will still makd it into double figures. It will turn a good | :25:07. | :25:11.
bit easier than it has been. East of the Pennines, the cloud will be more | :25:12. | :25:16.
broken and thin. More cloud for the weekend. Some breaks in the cloud | :25:17. | :25:21.
that's just not as much blud sky and sunshine. That breeze will pick up | :25:22. | :25:26.
and it will feel a wee bit cooler as well. We'll keep you updated on our | :25:27. | :25:38.
Facebook and Twitter pages. You can download the free BBC weathdr app as | :25:39. | :25:40.
well. Thanks Paul. Now for a last look at | :25:41. | :25:48.
tonight's headlines. Labour leader Ed Miliband effectively rulds out a | :25:49. | :25:51.
referendum on British membership of the EU if his party wins thd next | :25:52. | :25:55.
general election. And a gang of four fake tradesman are jailed after | :25:56. | :25:58.
forcing a string of victims to hand over cash or suffer horrific | :25:59. | :26:08.
violence. That's it for now. Goodbye. Goodbye. | :26:09. | :26:48.
'Small businesses are very important to the whole country.' | :26:49. | :26:51.
Without small businesses on the high street, | :26:52. | :26:53.
it would close the heart of the towns and villages. | :26:54. | :26:55.
The first time for 100... over 130 years since we've been here, | :26:56. | :26:59.
we are expanding and we've bought another shop, | :27:00. | :27:01.
'Whether you are a small or a large business, | :27:02. | :27:13.
'things have been extremely difficult.' | :27:14. | :27:15.
due to the fact that people come in more regularly. | :27:16. | :27:20.
'We'll hopefully be able to employ some more stylists. | :27:21. | :27:24.
'We're feeling really optimistic about the future.' | :27:25. | :27:29. |
