It's less than a fortnight to the Tour de France,

but this region's biggest cxcling festival is attracting some

part in The Virgin Money Cyclone, a four`day series of races `round

Packed with cyclists and spdctators, the usually peaceful

and picturesque village of Stamfordham was transforled.

Through the tight winding roads thex raced.

Some of the biggest names in the sport setting off

We got multi`Olympic champions, we've got medallists,

all these different types of people riding.

But I think also just to highlight Northumberland and the beauty

I mean, it's called the secret county and it's not

called that for nothing bec`use not a lot of people know about ht.

Around 3,000 riders raced during the four`day festival, but

cycling fever didn't grip everyone in the village and some even

Now, if you are hoping for ` stroll along Sunderland's Roker Pidr today,

That's because the 111`year`old pier is to be closed for the next six

months so that essential surface repair work can be carried out.
