It was the most shocking and brutal murder

And it happened in front of a room full of people.

Two brothers savagely attacked a boxer with a camping axe

during a New Year's Eve party in Hartlepool.

This afternoon David Sowerbx and Anthony Middleton were given

life sentences for killing this man, 31`year`old Mark Denton.

Stuart Whincup reports from Teesside Crown Court.

Chatting with relatives, drinking energy drinks.

The brothers have just hackdd a man to death.

Now, unbelievably, they're preparing to tell ddtectives

But Mark suffered 55 separate injuries.

A much`loved son, savagely attacked and killed at a party.

It is so painful. I just want him back. You cannot explain how you

feel inside. You feel dead. I wish that they had killed me and not him.

I have had my life and they had killed me and not him. I have had my

life and I would everybody hs so full of grief over it. I do not know

how his brother is walking, he misses and so much.

David Sowerby and his half`brother Anthony Middleton killed Mark out of

revenge after being humiliated by the boxer in public months darlier.

They planned their attack, searching the internet

before buying a camping axe like this one.

The night before the murder Sowerby posted a message on his Facdbook

page saying he was going to crack someone's skull open.

As Mark walked along here, he was said to be in ` good

mood. But after walking through that front door, he was attacked.

A County Durham headteacher has gone on trial,

accused of a string of historic sex offences against an underagd boy.

Anne Lakey, who's 54 and from Stanley in County Durham, is alleged

to have groomed the boy at her home ` and committing the offencds

over a year`long period in the latd 19 0s.

The court heard that Anne L`key met the boy when she was in her late 20s

and he was 13. The prosecuthon says he was among a group of boys that

would be invited to her homd. In due course, he started going alone. It

is alleged she used to encotrage him to fondle her or to watch are taking

a bath. When they first had intercourse, he was still wdaring

his school uniform and was still a virgin. At the time she was married

teacher and although the box was not a pupil of hers, the Crown says this
