this year but organisers fear this could be the penultimate gala.

on a 24`hour relay around one of the region's sports aren`s today

to raise money to fight cancer. The Relay For Life began

at 11 this morning in Jarrow ` and will continue through

to see them set off. They came from all over the region,

turning Jarrow's Monkton St`dium Survivors, carers and those

who've loved ones lost to cancer. It could affect any member of

your family, it could affect you. Several members of my family

have been affected by cancer. I'm quite proud to be a survivor and

I probably wouldn't be a survivor Everybody

in the team has been affectdd by cancer in some way or another

with families and themselves. It is just a great way

of getting together, having fun Before the 24`hour relay evdn began,

these people have raised more than ?20,000 for cancer research,

research that doctors say is People were frightened

by the word cancer because that was associated with a death sentence,

and clearly now currently if you have cancer there is a 50% chance

that in the next ten years... you will live more than ten years

and at Cancer Research UK their aim in the next 20 ye`rs is

a cloudy start to tomorrow morning but an improving picture with some
