There are also worries about pupils from Kenton School crossing the busy

School, and could make Newc`stle's obesity crisis even worse.

We have got the highest ratds in the north`east which in turn ard higher

ceased trading on Thursday. He's now taking

on challenges closer to homd. Tom Parker should have been on

his way up Mount Kilimajaro by now, raising money for the Meninhgits

Research Foundation, but he only got as far as Gatwick Airport, where he

received notification that the company he was travelling whth,

had gone into liquidation. There was an air of that disbelief.

There were a few tears. Most people felt angry. We did feel verx

betrayed by this company. This was

a very personal challenge for Tom. Last year,

he was in hospital in a desperate condition and only alive because

his mother spotted the symptoms When I first became a mother, we

were all given cards about what the symptoms were for meningitis and I

had remembered that the rash was the key thing. I just immediately rang

999, said I thought it was meningitis. The rash spread

throughout his body and one of the young doctors said to me, I think

you need to have somebody whth you and at that point, it hit the advice

and could possibly die. So back home in Washington,

Tom is now planning to spend the next two weeks instead walking

Hardian's Wall, doing the three peaks challdnge and

hiking a full circuit of Kehlder. I have to tell these people who

sponsored me I am not going either and I needed to find an altdrnative

to warrant the sponsorship loney they've given me.
