Hello, you're watching Tuesday's Look North.

:00:00.:00:00.

Tonight: Hundreds turn out to welcome Harry to Tyneside.

:00:00.:00:07.

The prince spent time talking to those touched by mental illness

:00:08.:00:18.

and veterans scarred by war. Concerns for a refuge for women

:00:19.:00:25.

when they leave the military. It is when they leave the military. It is

:00:26.:00:30.

a big family and he will want to help and support as much as he can.

:00:31.:00:43.

Concerns for a refuge for women suffering domestic violence

:00:44.:00:45.

A bright future for Kielder's dark skies as the national park cashes

:00:46.:00:50.

in on the sky at night. And the meerkats making a difference

:00:51.:00:52.

to the lives of young people with disabilities.

:00:53.:00:54.

In sport, more St James's misery for Steve Bruce as Newcastle go top

:00:55.:00:57.

of the Championship again and Premier League strugglers

:00:58.:00:59.

Sunderland announce redundancies just 24 hours after thousands

:01:00.:01:01.

of fans watched an open training session.

:01:02.:01:11.

It's a subject that's close to his heart.

:01:12.:01:13.

And today Prince Harry brought his message about mental

:01:14.:01:15.

health to the region meeting veterans scarred by their

:01:16.:01:18.

experiences of war and others whose lives have been affected

:01:19.:01:20.

The prince was in Gateshead and Newcastle as part of a campaign

:01:21.:01:27.

encouraging people to open up about their problems.

:01:28.:01:30.

Our correspondent Peter Harris has been following the Prince and joins

:01:31.:01:32.

Don, Prince Harry has long promoted mental-health causes, partly because

:01:33.:01:48.

of his own experiences in the armed forces. Today was much broader that,

:01:49.:01:49.

though. It is a campaign he jointly supports

:01:50.:01:57.

with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Today, Prince Harry

:01:58.:02:00.

joined sporting legends to promote the work of the heads together

:02:01.:02:05.

mental health charity. It is about speaking out. The important thing

:02:06.:02:09.

about heads together is that it is about saying it is fine to struggle.

:02:10.:02:14.

Speak to somebody about it. Sure a problem. A problem shared is a

:02:15.:02:18.

problem halved. And you will find that most people are just like you.

:02:19.:02:23.

He met people training from the London Marathon from across the

:02:24.:02:26.

country. A bit of banter on the bridge and then off to hear their

:02:27.:02:30.

stories. Supporting mental health charities is something that has been

:02:31.:02:34.

very close to the Prince's heart and coming to events like this and

:02:35.:02:37.

meeting the public and encouraging others to look after their mental

:02:38.:02:42.

well-being. The runners told him of their mental health experiences,

:02:43.:02:45.

including Leanne, who was involved with the charity because of her

:02:46.:02:50.

daughter's problems. With mental illness, nothing is ever quick. It

:02:51.:02:54.

is never a quick fix. It is bidding of the pieces in the puzzle together

:02:55.:02:59.

to try to make a difference. And yet... It breaks your heart. He was

:03:00.:03:06.

really lovely to talk to, completely down-to-earth, extremely passionate

:03:07.:03:10.

about the charity, and it was just really nice being able to speak to

:03:11.:03:14.

him and we are just really happy that he is elevating this great

:03:15.:03:18.

charity. Earlier, the Prince met veterans in Gateshead working with

:03:19.:03:22.

the walking with the wooded charity and later to the headquarters of

:03:23.:03:27.

virgin money, which supports his campaigns, and there he spoke of the

:03:28.:03:31.

issues. I have seen people go from their lowest point, physically

:03:32.:03:37.

shaking or unwilling to leave the house, or even with suicidal pots,

:03:38.:03:43.

to a place of real optimism and resilience in a relatively short

:03:44.:03:46.

space of time. Recovery really is possible. But there was time as well

:03:47.:03:52.

to draw the crowds. He is always a popular draw. This time, though,

:03:53.:03:54.

with a message that matters. Peter, we saw there the Prince

:03:55.:03:56.

was with the region's sporting royalty today as well -

:03:57.:03:59.

but all of them supporting the cause Yes, Jonathan Edwards and Steve

:04:00.:04:10.

Cram. They were your partly to encourage the charity people who

:04:11.:04:13.

were taking part in the London Marathon. It was held here at the

:04:14.:04:16.

quayside because they have been doing training down here, but also

:04:17.:04:20.

the rate to further promote the issue of mental health awareness,

:04:21.:04:23.

and we had a quick word with Steve Cram. We all have... We lose

:04:24.:04:31.

confidence, we have self-doubt, we sometimes get embarrassed about

:04:32.:04:31.

scenarios that we need to put scenarios that we need to put

:04:32.:04:35.

ourselves in. It could be at work, at all. Athletes are no different

:04:36.:04:40.

and they work very, very hard on having a good attitude every single

:04:41.:04:44.

day if they can. Do we managed to achieve that? Of course we don't.

:04:45.:04:47.

When you don't, you beat up people to turn to and be prepared to

:04:48.:04:52.

discuss it, otherwise by bottling up it can turn into a really big

:04:53.:04:56.

problem. The runners were very impressed with Prince Harry. They

:04:57.:05:00.

also said he was very encouraging about their efforts for the London

:05:01.:05:04.

Marathon and telling them if it got tough, they should make sure to

:05:05.:05:07.

remember that it is a good cause, and he told them they should just

:05:08.:05:11.

enjoy it. I am sure that is rather easier said than done. Absolutely.

:05:12.:05:15.

Thank you very much indeed. A charity which supports victims

:05:16.:05:18.

of domestic violence is concerned for its future,

:05:19.:05:20.

after it was told council funding of more than half a million pounds

:05:21.:05:23.

is coming to an end. Wearside Women in Need will be

:05:24.:05:26.

facing a massive financial black hole when its current grant

:05:27.:05:29.

ends in July. Our reporter Sharon Barbour's

:05:30.:05:31.

been following the story So, Sharon, what's

:05:32.:05:34.

the background to this? Wearside Women in Need has four

:05:35.:05:40.

refuges on Wearside helping more It costs one million

:05:41.:05:43.

pounds a year to run - half of that comes from the council

:05:44.:05:52.

and the rest being raised Now, Sunderland Council says

:05:53.:05:55.

the current arrangements Instead they are going to invite

:05:56.:06:00.

groups to tender for funding - to deliver domestic

:06:01.:06:07.

violence support services. Clare Philipson of Wearside Women

:06:08.:06:12.

in Needs says that leaves people worried service users who do not

:06:13.:06:29.

know when they are going to be helped and don't know when the money

:06:30.:06:33.

is going to come back, so there has been a massive mobilisation in the

:06:34.:06:38.

community but certainly service users are relying on us to help them

:06:39.:06:43.

through particularly traumatic court cases, or court proceedings around

:06:44.:06:48.

children, and they are very worried about where is that person going to

:06:49.:06:53.

go. Will I be able to go back there for help? What is going to happen?

:06:54.:06:55.

and providers are now working more closely together -

:06:56.:07:06.

They say for example last week a partnership between seven councils

:07:07.:07:11.

and nine domestic violence support groups has now secured

:07:12.:07:20.

to help support the victims of domestic violence -

:07:21.:07:23.

and the council thinks this type of partnership

:07:24.:07:25.

Across seven councils and organisations.

:07:26.:07:29.

Doesn't sound like much, is that all the money there is?

:07:30.:07:31.

No, Sunderland Council say they're drawing money together from a number

:07:32.:07:34.

of different sources - So, at the moment they can't say

:07:35.:07:36.

whether their overall domestic violence support budget is going up

:07:37.:07:39.

or down because the funding is still being confirmed.

:07:40.:07:50.

Five people have been arrested after a

:07:51.:07:54.

man was stabbed in broad daylight in Newcastle City Centre.

:07:55.:07:57.

It happened yesterday lunchtime in Princess Square next

:07:58.:07:58.

The man, who's 22 and hasn't been named, is still in a critical

:07:59.:08:03.

A public inquiry into controversial plans for an opencast coal mine

:08:04.:08:09.

close to a Northumberland beauty spot will take place in May.

:08:10.:08:13.

Campaigners have been fighting to stop the Banks Group

:08:14.:08:16.

from removing three million tonnes of coal from land near Widdrington,

:08:17.:08:19.

More than ?8,000 has now been donated to an appeal set up

:08:20.:08:31.

by the family of a 16-year-old Durham girl, who's virtually

:08:32.:08:33.

Jade Gadd, who appeared on Friday's Look North,

:08:34.:08:36.

has a genetic condition which means she has seizures and her joints

:08:37.:08:39.

Wheelchair access in her home is poor.

:08:40.:08:54.

Durham County Council's offered ?30,000 for modifications,

:08:55.:08:55.

but that's only half the estimated cost.

:08:56.:08:57.

A North Yorkshire primary school with just fifteen pupils

:08:58.:08:59.

Parents and governors at Horton-in-Ribblesdale Primary

:09:00.:09:02.

have been campaigning to keep it open, but the council says it

:09:03.:09:05.

will struggle financially as there aren't enough pupils

:09:06.:09:07.

Meanwhile, parents have reacted with dismay to plans to close

:09:08.:09:10.

a Northumberland middle school, months after they were told

:09:11.:09:13.

between Berwick and Alnwick - say the number of pupils is set

:09:14.:09:19.

to fall sharply, and that means it won't be financially sustainable.

:09:20.:09:24.

Parents say it's a good school and that some children

:09:25.:09:27.

could now face long journeys to be taught elsewhere.

:09:28.:09:29.

For decades, it has been a war of attrition. But since this protest in

:09:30.:09:45.

2004, the number of Northumberland Middle schools has nearly halved. So

:09:46.:09:49.

our parents liked is fighting a losing battle? Middle schools like

:09:50.:09:56.

the one at Belford typically take pupils from the age of nine until

:09:57.:10:01.

protein. This one is run by the Church of England. Ofsted calls it a

:10:02.:10:06.

lose a third of its 100 pupils by lose a third of its 100 pupils by

:10:07.:10:11.

September. That would mean much less funding. Despite that, parents got a

:10:12.:10:16.

governor's letter last October reassuring them that the future of

:10:17.:10:20.

the school was secure. At least that was until a month ago. When they got

:10:21.:10:27.

a second letter, this time from the chair of governors, saying that with

:10:28.:10:30.

the greatest reluctance and regret, they have now concluded that it is

:10:31.:10:34.

in the best interests of the children to close the school this

:10:35.:10:39.

summer. They were also told that despite Ofsted's verdict, Belford

:10:40.:10:44.

had been identified as a coasting school because its standards hadn't

:10:45.:10:48.

improved in the last three years. That was a bit of a shock. I

:10:49.:10:52.

definitely feel angry. People are very upset. Panicking, some people

:10:53.:10:58.

taking their children out now. If you have thought they had better get

:10:59.:11:02.

them into another school as fast as possible. So what might happen?

:11:03.:11:07.

Well, one option would be to expand. This, the village's first school to

:11:08.:11:11.

become a primary. So this would take the children from the middle school

:11:12.:11:14.

up to the age of 11 but it would still mean the 11 to 13-year-olds

:11:15.:11:18.

having long bus journeys at the beginning and end of the day. The

:11:19.:11:23.

high schools would either be Berwick or panic, so that is an extra hour

:11:24.:11:27.

and a half, couple of hours, on the children's day, on top of homework.

:11:28.:11:32.

It is just not acceptable. The diocese of Newcastle and the County

:11:33.:11:36.

Council stressed this is still a consultation exercise. Campaigners

:11:37.:11:38.

want to call a halt before another of his dwindling band of schools

:11:39.:11:39.

disappears. The hugely successful

:11:40.:11:48.

Kielder Observatory The observatory now

:11:49.:11:49.

attracts more than 23,000 visitors every year,

:11:50.:11:57.

and thanks to grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund

:11:58.:11:59.

and the Rural Development Programme there's to be a new observatory and

:12:00.:12:01.

much bigger educational facilities. Even on this belief every morning,

:12:02.:12:19.

Steve is already starting to get ready for the new season at the

:12:20.:12:27.

Kielder village campsite, and so other many accommodation prior to

:12:28.:12:31.

that -- providers, he is grateful for the observatory and the visitors

:12:32.:12:35.

it brings in Ebury year. We have had some very fortunate times where we

:12:36.:12:39.

have had a good of nights despite bad weather, but the colder it is,

:12:40.:12:43.

the clearer it can be. I don't think any of us really expected this to

:12:44.:12:47.

take off any way that it has now as well as this observatory we have now

:12:48.:12:50.

got hotels and bed-and-breakfast facilities. They have got their own

:12:51.:12:57.

kids to promote dark skies. The locals will tell you that Kielder,

:12:58.:13:03.

outside the main holiday season, can become almost deserted, that is why

:13:04.:13:06.

the unexpected thousands of astral tourists have given this whole

:13:07.:13:12.

promote area at such a welcome boost. Particularly as the

:13:13.:13:15.

stargazers tend to prefer coming in the quieter months in spring and

:13:16.:13:19.

autumn. This opportunity and this project allows us to actually

:13:20.:13:22.

develop a classroom for children coming here, so not everybody is

:13:23.:13:29.

crowded in the same building, and it provides the opportunity for lots of

:13:30.:13:32.

different education to take place as well from this particular venue. If

:13:33.:13:38.

it is going to last than it is going to inspire people in the region and

:13:39.:13:42.

we have got to get on board. It is a hearts and minds campaign. We want

:13:43.:13:46.

to really infuse people about how important dark skies are and what

:13:47.:13:50.

better could get people excited and looking at the big old black dark

:13:51.:13:54.

starry sky and using kit like this to look out at the depths of the

:13:55.:13:57.

universe? It doesn't get any better than that. A little ray of sunshine

:13:58.:14:05.

and all from the dark sky. Fabulous news.

:14:06.:14:07.

You're watching Tuesday's Look North.

:14:08.:14:09.

Plenty more coming up, Mark will be here with a look

:14:10.:14:11.

The hospice encouraging more young people to come in as volunteers

:14:12.:14:16.

And this is storm Doris, set to bring strong winds, heavy rain for

:14:17.:14:26.

Thursday. I will the details. Helping people enjoy their lives

:14:27.:14:27.

to the full while learning skills That's the aim of a volunteer

:14:28.:14:33.

scheme run by Eden Valley The Carlisle charity couldn't

:14:34.:14:40.

run without the help of hundreds of volunteers,

:14:41.:14:44.

now it's Young Volunteer Programme is encouraging 17 year

:14:45.:14:48.

olds to join the team. Megan Paterson went to meet one

:14:49.:14:50.

of the young carers. Volunteering here is absolutely

:14:51.:15:04.

amazing. It is so rewarding coming here every week and socialising with

:15:05.:15:08.

people and I wouldn't say that it is a sad place to be because it really

:15:09.:15:11.

is one of the happiest places I have been to.

:15:12.:15:13.

Lily is one of eight young volunteers at Eden Valley hospice.

:15:14.:15:17.

For the last five months, she's spent time in

:15:18.:15:19.

She's picking up skills and leaving her own mark too.

:15:20.:15:26.

I think the young volunteers, when they come, obviously they bring that

:15:27.:15:33.

zest of life with them. They bring their hopes, although dreams, and

:15:34.:15:36.

they are sharing bills with the patients. The patients become very

:15:37.:15:37.

involved. The hospice has around 400

:15:38.:15:40.

hundred volunteers - all are well appreciated

:15:41.:15:42.

here but there's special affection for the young people

:15:43.:15:44.

who've joined the team: It is wonderful because they have

:15:45.:15:50.

all the energy and they have been new ideas and they are very helpful.

:15:51.:15:56.

Any day I get out normally so it is wonderful.

:15:57.:16:00.

As well as building new relationships, Lily is collecting

:16:01.:16:02.

Having some clinical experience is really why I am here because it is

:16:03.:16:11.

very hard to get for people my age because you're not allow into

:16:12.:16:15.

hospitals and stuff so the clinical experience has gone on my personal

:16:16.:16:18.

statement for university and with hopes to become a midwife.

:16:19.:16:22.

It costs more than ?3million a year to run the hospice,

:16:23.:16:24.

less than 30% of funding comes from the NHS -

:16:25.:16:27.

so fundraising IS crucial but donations of time can be just

:16:28.:16:34.

We estimate that the economic value of our volunteers Saints is around

:16:35.:16:44.

?400,000 per year, but that number does not tell the whole story. It

:16:45.:16:48.

of the volunteers and everything of the volunteers and everything

:16:49.:16:49.

they bring to the work we do. the Young Volunteering Programme

:16:50.:16:51.

so far - all have gone on to study Something Lily hopes

:16:52.:16:59.

to achieve later this year. If you like your winters deep

:17:00.:17:04.

and crisp, then this year has been No such worries for the women

:17:05.:17:09.

of Operation Ice Maiden, though. The final five-strong

:17:10.:17:13.

army team will undertake a thousand-mile trek

:17:14.:17:16.

across Antarctica, pulling everything they need

:17:17.:17:18.

with them, later this year. To prepare them for the minus 40

:17:19.:17:21.

temperatures they're likely to encounter,

:17:22.:17:23.

they've been training in Norway. And team member Lieutenant

:17:24.:17:26.

Jenni Stephenson - North East born and bred -

:17:27.:17:28.

has revealed the answer to what until now has been one

:17:29.:17:30.

of the great unspoken questions. We have each got individual P

:17:31.:17:41.

finals, so that is pretty straightforward, but if we need a

:17:42.:17:47.

little more we will have a little wall and squat behind it and do your

:17:48.:17:51.

business into a bag. We have tissues and then you wrap the bag up and it

:17:52.:17:55.

goes in your pack and you drag that for the rest of the expedition.

:17:56.:18:02.

Newcastle United are top of the Championship again

:18:03.:18:07.

after beating struggling Aston Villa at St James' Park last night.

:18:08.:18:10.

The victory took them a point above promotion rivals Brighton,

:18:11.:18:12.

but Steve Bruce's side didn't make it easy for the Magpies.

:18:13.:18:17.

The flags were out in force for rapper beanie tears, but it was

:18:18.:18:26.

deeper is's side, who have not won a game since the start of the year,

:18:27.:18:33.

who dominated the first half. We had a recurrence of the hamstring injury

:18:34.:18:36.

for this player who has been kept out of action. Just before

:18:37.:18:39.

deadlock. The back of the net was deadlock. The back of the net was

:18:40.:18:46.

eventually found. The loudest cheer was reserved for Henry Lansbury.

:18:47.:18:54.

There were also some red cards. The villain of the piece inadvertently

:18:55.:18:59.

flicked this shot into his own net to put Newcastle two up. The home

:19:00.:19:03.

side took control after that although they had to pull off an

:19:04.:19:08.

impressive save to keep the Iceland midfielder out. United may have

:19:09.:19:11.

scored more but they are getting used to grinding out victories, and

:19:12.:19:15.

it was the result that was important as they prepare to face two of the

:19:16.:19:20.

best teams in the league battle over the next of weeks.

:19:21.:19:21.

So this is how the Championship table looks.

:19:22.:19:23.

Newcastle a point clear at the top and eight

:19:24.:19:25.

It's Bristol City at St James' this weekend then the Magpies face

:19:26.:19:29.

second place Brighton, Huddersfield who're third and fourth

:19:30.:19:31.

Tonight, meanwhile, something's got to give

:19:32.:19:38.

host Gateshead, who've won their last three

:19:39.:19:43.

matches and are now serious play-off contenders.

:19:44.:19:47.

Now it's far from certain whether there'll be any Tyne-Wear

:19:48.:19:49.

If Sunderland's latest relegation battle has been

:19:50.:19:52.

another rollercoaster ride, there've been plenty of ups

:19:53.:19:55.

and downs since they arrived back from last week's training

:19:56.:19:57.

Today's announcement of further job losses

:19:58.:20:02.

to save money at the club - a further reminder of

:20:03.:20:05.

the Black Cats' predicament on and off the pitch.

:20:06.:20:11.

Today's announcement of redundancies comes just 24 hours

after a half-term open training session attracted around 5,000 fans

:20:16.:20:17.

It follows a root and branch review of the club's business operations

:20:18.:20:21.

and it's feared dozens of jobs could be lost in the re-structuring

:20:22.:20:24.

overseen by chief executive Martin Bain, who wants a stronger

:20:25.:20:26.

Unfortunate timing but not a surprise.

:20:27.:20:37.

They are clearly in a position where they could get relegated. That is

:20:38.:20:43.

part of the problem. But I think there is a wider issue. I think the

:20:44.:20:48.

arrival of the chief executive in summer was to sort out an ailing

:20:49.:20:51.

football club. We know that the debts are large and we know that

:20:52.:20:57.

Martin Bain has stated publicly already this season that he is

:20:58.:21:01.

having to save money. He has had to cut costs. So this is all part of an

:21:02.:21:06.

ongoing operation, trying to save money and streamline the business of

:21:07.:21:08.

the football club. It would certainly help

:21:09.:21:12.

if the club could pull off yet another great

:21:13.:21:14.

escape from relegation. They can't afford a repeat

:21:15.:21:16.

of the home drubbing by Southampton I think we have just been through it

:21:17.:21:24.

so many times. We are worried about it this season, but a bit of hope, I

:21:25.:21:30.

think. Things can only get better. There are worse teams than others in

:21:31.:21:35.

the Premier League this season. We had that win against Crystal Palace

:21:36.:21:38.

and I thought we may have turned a corner but it hasn't picked up at

:21:39.:21:43.

all. Do you think New York will have done some good? I hope so. Maybe we

:21:44.:21:47.

will come back fitter and more refreshed and plays better football

:21:48.:21:52.

for the rest of the season. Always be positive. Never say die.

:21:53.:21:56.

The players will have enjoyed applause rather than booing

:21:57.:21:58.

And a first trip to New York has left one veteran

:21:59.:22:02.

of relegation scraps in a

:22:03.:22:03.

know each other and sometimes that know each other and sometimes that

:22:04.:22:09.

is very important as well, to get to know each other but little bit

:22:10.:22:13.

better and hopefully it was a very useful and we will have to show that

:22:14.:22:15.

now. And finally County Durham-born

:22:16.:22:17.

referee Mark Clattenburg will continue to referee

:22:18.:22:21.

in the Premier League The Tyneside-based 41-year-old

:22:22.:22:23.

announced his decision last week to become head of referees

:22:24.:22:26.

in Saudi Arabia but he won't leave This weekend he'll take charge

:22:27.:22:29.

of the Premier League game Now, meerkats are always popular

:22:30.:22:32.

with their mischievous antics, But could they also have

:22:33.:22:38.

therapeutic benefits? Well, a North Yorkshire

:22:39.:22:42.

man has been taking his meerkats into care homes

:22:43.:22:44.

across North Yorkshire and the results have been

:22:45.:22:46.

rather heartwarming, Meet me at and her sister cat. Not

:22:47.:23:03.

does cute but very special because they are very peak meerkats. Mia and

:23:04.:23:06.

cat going to care homes to make people smile. Today they are in at a

:23:07.:23:12.

care home for adults with disabilities. Mia therapy is

:23:13.:23:16.

something Joel has just started this year. He says no else is doing it

:23:17.:23:21.

and it is a hacked. I have lived with animals or my life and to

:23:22.:23:26.

coming to a home where they only see animals occasionally but they have

:23:27.:23:29.

never seen meerkats before. Some of the residents can take their eyes

:23:30.:23:34.

off them. This is the first time we have had it and judging by the

:23:35.:23:38.

smiles on everyone's faces, I think it has been a really positive

:23:39.:23:41.

experience and something they will remember for quite a long time. I

:23:42.:23:45.

think there are some people, who you can see they are a lot more animated

:23:46.:23:49.

and focused and they are concentrating on getting enjoyment

:23:50.:23:53.

out of what they are watching. They also go to visit nursing homes and

:23:54.:23:57.

dementia care homes. They always stay in their pen on visits until

:23:58.:23:59.

today. After a bit of a runaround and lots

:24:00.:24:16.

excitement, the meerkats are returned safely to their pen. These

:24:17.:24:21.

are not the only visitors here today. Joe takes all kinds of

:24:22.:24:27.

animals into North Yorkshire care homes, with heart-warming results.

:24:28.:24:30.

But there's something strangely relaxing about watching meerkats and

:24:31.:24:35.

their antics. Near therapy could be the next big thing. I think I prefer

:24:36.:24:42.

the meerkats to the snakes. Me too. Time for the weather. It has felt

:24:43.:24:52.

quite like spring, but I gather dastardly Doris is on her way. Yes,

:24:53.:24:57.

there is the into Sunday, turning things much more wintry. This

:24:58.:25:01.

evening, we have some rain and strong winds pushing in from the

:25:02.:25:05.

west, so a wet and windy night to come. Some heavy and persistent rain

:25:06.:25:08.

for a time. That should clear through by the time we get to dawn

:25:09.:25:14.

on Wednesday morning. Temperatures down to around six Celsius. So we

:25:15.:25:17.

start the day on Wednesday. It is quite a bright and breezy day.

:25:18.:25:22.

Feeling a bit colder tomorrow, but we should see some spells of

:25:23.:25:25.

sunshine and some showers being pushed in on that breeds will stop

:25:26.:25:28.

mostly light. I think most of us will have a dry day tomorrow.

:25:29.:25:33.

Temperatures will get up to a high of around nine Celsius, some not

:25:34.:25:36.

quite as warm and we will have that breeze as well which it will take

:25:37.:25:41.

the edge off those temperatures. It is Wednesday night and on into

:25:42.:25:44.

Thursday that we are watching this area of low pressure named by The

:25:45.:25:48.

Met office as storm Doris. It will bring some fairly destructive

:25:49.:25:53.

weather conditions through the night on Thursday, so what are we

:25:54.:26:00.

expecting? Some strong winds. Gusts of around 50-60 mph and there will

:26:01.:26:05.

be some snow on the health as well. Around 5-10 centimetres. I will show

:26:06.:26:08.

you where we are expecting the worst of the weather. This is the snow.

:26:09.:26:11.

Overnight on Wednesday and into Overnight on Wednesday and into

:26:12.:26:14.

thirsty we are expecting it over higher ground. Over the North

:26:15.:26:19.

Pennines, we could see 10-20 centimetres, so The Met office has a

:26:20.:26:22.

yellow warning in force. In addition to the snow, we have the strong wind

:26:23.:26:27.

as well. A yellow warning across Cumbria. 50-60 mph. And we also have

:26:28.:26:34.

an amber be prepared warning down here as well so this is destructive

:26:35.:26:40.

wind and could cause some problems. Through Wednesday night and on into

:26:41.:26:44.

Thursday, we start off dry but here comes the storm moving in during the

:26:45.:26:47.

night on Wednesday and bringing that snow first of all still rained down

:26:48.:26:52.

to the lower levels as well and the temperature is around four Celsius.

:26:53.:26:55.

That rain is with us first thing on Thursday morning. The snow will

:26:56.:26:59.

continue to fall for a time and the winds are picking up as we go

:27:00.:27:02.

through the day. So it is staying windy. We lose the wet weather as we

:27:03.:27:09.

head into Thursday afternoon, but the strong winds still picking up

:27:10.:27:12.

and it is going to be feeling really cold. Temperatures around nine

:27:13.:27:15.

Celsius, backed by the North East by Celsius. So that if Thursday. That

:27:16.:27:19.

clears away by the time we get into Friday. Friday is looking like a dry

:27:20.:27:24.

and bright day on the whole. It will be cold and the changeable weather

:27:25.:27:27.

continues into the weekend. It turns wet and windy once again. I almost

:27:28.:27:33.

wish I had not asked. It is a case of baton down the hatches and get

:27:34.:27:35.

the thermal and ease out again. I am the thermal and ease out again. I am

:27:36.:27:40.

afraid so. That is all for tonight. Goodbye for now.
