feel fresh in the breeze. More rain on Thursday night. | :00:00. | :00:09.
Welcome to Monday's Look North. On the programme tonight ` Mac is back. | :00:10. | :00:14.
After a weekend of turmoil at Leeds United, Brian McDermott returns as | :00:15. | :00:17.
manager with a warning for anyone who wants to take the club over. | :00:18. | :00:34.
Those people first and foremost in their minds. Nothing else matters. | :00:35. | :00:38.
There are new developments tonight. We'll hear more from McDermott, fans | :00:39. | :00:41.
and the current owners to try and find out where the club goes from | :00:42. | :00:50.
here. Also tonight. The pupils excluded from school for wearing | :00:51. | :00:52.
cancer charity badges on their uniforms. And we get up close and | :00:53. | :00:55.
personal with West Yorkshire's police horses on one of their most | :00:56. | :01:05.
challenging days. And this is a great looking Castle Hill earlier. | :01:06. | :01:08.
They should be some brightness around. The forecast follows | :01:09. | :01:18.
shortly. First, the ongoing saga at Leeds United. After 72 hours of | :01:19. | :01:23.
chaos and confusion, the club still has no clear owner. On Thursday last | :01:24. | :01:27.
week, managing director David Haigh failed in a bid to buy the club with | :01:28. | :01:32.
a consortium called Sport Capital. The following day the reasons for | :01:33. | :01:35.
that became clear as it was revealed that Italian businessman Massimo | :01:36. | :01:38.
Cellino had agreed a deal to takeover Leeds. Later that day, on | :01:39. | :01:43.
the eve of a Yorkshire derby, word spread that Cellino had sacked | :01:44. | :01:49.
manager Brian McDermott. That didn't stop Leeds thrashing Huddersfield | :01:50. | :01:52.
5`1. But minutes after the final whistle, a statement on the club | :01:53. | :01:56.
website said McDermott had not been sacked. Today, the BBC learned an | :01:57. | :02:02.
11th`hour rival takeover bid was made by a local consortium, | :02:03. | :02:07.
including Sport Capital. So it seems the future ownership of Leeds United | :02:08. | :02:10.
is still up for grabs. Something Brian McDermott says needs sorting | :02:11. | :02:22.
out, as Ian Bucknell reports. One part of the picture became clearer. | :02:23. | :02:28.
Brian McDermott, for now, at least, is the Leeds United manager. He | :02:29. | :02:32.
explained why he was back after being sacked. The reason I am | :02:33. | :02:38.
sitting here, this is Leeds United, I want to be Leeds United manager. I | :02:39. | :02:43.
have spoken to people in the game, important people, who said you | :02:44. | :02:48.
should not go back. But if you saw the support the team got, the staff | :02:49. | :02:54.
got, and the personal support I got, it was incredible. Some Leeds United | :02:55. | :03:00.
fans had gathered to protest against the sacking before the game. The | :03:01. | :03:06.
last week has been the latest round of familiar embarrassment and | :03:07. | :03:10.
disappointment. We get managers being sacked, the company sold. We | :03:11. | :03:15.
want the truth. If there is no money, let us know, we are sick of | :03:16. | :03:20.
the lies and cannot take any more. Despite the turmoil off the pitch, | :03:21. | :03:25.
the players on it held their nerve, none more so than Ross MacCormack, | :03:26. | :03:30.
who scored a hat`trick against Huddersfield. The most important | :03:31. | :03:36.
thing is what happens on the pitch and we put everything to the back of | :03:37. | :03:42.
our head and put on a good show. An investment bank became owners just | :03:43. | :03:47.
every year ago and directors, including David Haigh, celebrated. | :03:48. | :03:54.
Yesterday Mr Patel told the BBC he had no regrets. We are proud of what | :03:55. | :04:00.
we achieved and have grown to love Leeds United. But they have been the | :04:01. | :04:06.
king to sell a majority share and has reached an agreement in | :04:07. | :04:09.
principle with an Italian businessman, Massimo Cellino. As a | :04:10. | :04:15.
convicted fraudster he is not certain to pass tests. News today of | :04:16. | :04:22.
two other bidders joining forces to make an offer. They want to get | :04:23. | :04:27.
involved to take a majority share and they believe that's the Italian | :04:28. | :04:33.
businessman is the right man. These troubles date back to over a decade, | :04:34. | :04:38.
after being in the Premier League. After a battling week, the nightmare | :04:39. | :04:49.
continues. We've been made aware of some developments tonight. Tanya's | :04:50. | :04:51.
here along with Leeds United supporter Michael Michaelson. In | :04:52. | :04:54.
London, we have Italian football pundit Mina Razuki. What has been | :04:55. | :04:58.
happening? The lawyer acting for Massimo | :04:59. | :05:04.
Cellino made the phone call to Brian McDermott that led to the sacking. | :05:05. | :05:08.
He was marched off the premises at Elland Road this afternoon and said | :05:09. | :05:12.
he would not be back unless the Italian took over. An e`mail was | :05:13. | :05:16.
issued to staff by the chairman stressing that GSH capital remains | :05:17. | :05:25.
in ownership and said that no instructions or direction should be | :05:26. | :05:28.
taken from anyone outside the existing management structure. The | :05:29. | :05:37.
Leeds city councillor Keith Wakefield implored them to vet | :05:38. | :05:41.
properly any potential new owners and they talk about the fit and | :05:42. | :05:46.
proper person test. You might think that's the Italian businessman, with | :05:47. | :05:50.
charges of fraud, would he felt that? But the two convictions are | :05:51. | :05:57.
more than ten years old. The rehabilitation act, I understand, | :05:58. | :06:02.
makes them spent convictions. As for the existing charge over him, you | :06:03. | :06:07.
are innocent until proven guilty. We can speak to an Italian football | :06:08. | :06:15.
pundit. Just who is Massimo Cellino? He is one of the most | :06:16. | :06:24.
beloved characters in Italian football. He inspires a lot of fans | :06:25. | :06:36.
to love him. He believes in improving. A lot of the reasons his | :06:37. | :06:40.
team has been in trouble is because he wanted them to have a better | :06:41. | :06:44.
stadium and that is when he got into trouble for it. They have been | :06:45. | :06:48.
playing and training in different stadiums and they are back to where | :06:49. | :06:54.
they started. He is a character with the past. Some of the players love | :06:55. | :06:58.
him, some of them despise him. You only have two ask one goalkeeper who | :06:59. | :07:07.
was put on the bench after asking to leave. Would he be good for Leeds | :07:08. | :07:16.
United? He would bring character and he would bring investment. But he | :07:17. | :07:23.
might get tired of it if it does not go his way. He has character, he | :07:24. | :07:27.
would be all right believed united, if he money? He might get tired of | :07:28. | :07:33.
it. We are all tired of it. We have had enough. But for too long it has | :07:34. | :07:41.
been in the wrong hands. We are in a complete mess. The club is in a | :07:42. | :07:49.
terrible position. Something needs to be done. Is Massimo Cellino the | :07:50. | :07:54.
right man? It is a gamble. He can bring money, but will he put the | :07:55. | :07:59.
right infrastructure in? Will he be the right man long term this | :08:00. | :08:03.
wonderful club? What is the next move if he is not the right man? | :08:04. | :08:09.
There is a great possibility of administration, you would have to | :08:10. | :08:13.
think. The local consortia might be good and have good intentions, but | :08:14. | :08:18.
if they do not have the money, I say to you, gentle men, do not come to | :08:19. | :08:23.
the club, we do not need a million here and a millionaire. We have had | :08:24. | :08:28.
that. We need new people with investment, patient, who care about | :08:29. | :08:33.
the club. They have to love and care about the club because it is a | :08:34. | :08:36.
wonderful club. Thanks for joining us. | :08:37. | :08:43.
Next, the school pupils from North Nottinghamshire, suspended for | :08:44. | :08:46.
wearing charity badges on their uniforms. The 14`year`olds have both | :08:47. | :08:48.
recently lost family members to cancer. The school, Outwood Academy | :08:49. | :08:51.
Portland, in Worksop, says they are free to wear the badges on their | :08:52. | :08:55.
bags and outdoor coats, but not on their blazers. But because the girls | :08:56. | :08:58.
have refused to remove them, they have been temporarily excluded. Kate | :08:59. | :09:07.
Bradbrook has this exclusive report. These 14`year`old friends should be | :09:08. | :09:11.
at school, but instead they are working from home after being | :09:12. | :09:16.
suspended for wearing charity badges on their blazer. We were asked to | :09:17. | :09:22.
take the Cancer research badges. We said no, it is show `` to show | :09:23. | :09:28.
respect to those who have lost their lives to cancel. Caley wears hers in | :09:29. | :09:40.
honour of her auntie. I have what it for a year, since we found out what | :09:41. | :09:45.
was happening with my auntie's cancer and my grandad got cancer. | :09:46. | :09:50.
The trust said a statement saying the school has a proud track record | :09:51. | :09:56.
of supporting charity, but some were wearing five or six badges at one | :09:57. | :10:02.
time. It said it is happy for students to wear the badges on their | :10:03. | :10:08.
bags or outside Coates. I understand the school has rules and regulations | :10:09. | :10:15.
but I have never heard of this. They've... It is like they woke up | :10:16. | :10:19.
and did not want to see them any more and they take them off. The | :10:20. | :10:24.
families now have to decide whether to back down and remove the badges, | :10:25. | :10:28.
or, to find another school with not such strict rules. | :10:29. | :10:37.
Later on Look North: Remember Parkinson's disease sufferer James | :10:38. | :10:39.
DeLittle? We catch up with him following his controversial stem | :10:40. | :10:45.
cell treatment in the Ukraine. Now for a planning battle worthy of a | :10:46. | :10:48.
detective novel. When Brian McNeil bought his dream retirement home on | :10:49. | :10:52.
the North York Moors 17 years ago, it was a return to the farm where he | :10:53. | :10:57.
had worked as a boy. But what Brian, himself a retired detective, didn't | :10:58. | :11:00.
realise was the work he carried out to restore the place was in fact | :11:01. | :11:03.
illegal. He removed a dilapidated spiral staircase when he moved in, | :11:04. | :11:06.
which planning officials said he should have replaced. He has now | :11:07. | :11:11.
lost his case in court and faces losing his home. Michelle Lyons | :11:12. | :11:19.
reports. Hundreds of correspondence filed, | :11:20. | :11:26.
documenting a 17 year battle with the North York Moors National Park | :11:27. | :11:29.
authority. The grade two listed farmhouse near Whitby has been | :11:30. | :11:34.
restored by Brian McNeil. But the couple's life has been blighted with | :11:35. | :11:39.
an ongoing argument over a staircase. They bought the place in | :11:40. | :11:44.
1996 and the house was derelict. Brian McNeil and his brother | :11:45. | :11:49.
renovated the property following a brief conversation with a planning | :11:50. | :11:55.
officer. They had inspected the exterior and were quite happy with | :11:56. | :12:01.
the work. She was adamant that the national parks were not interested | :12:02. | :12:04.
in the interior. Nothing was confirmed in writing and when Brian | :12:05. | :12:10.
ripped out a rotten staircase and replaced it, his nightmare began. It | :12:11. | :12:18.
was impossible to use it. In fact, there was a notice, posted at the | :12:19. | :12:24.
side, handwritten, as I recall, which warned people as to its | :12:25. | :12:32.
dangerous condition. The house has been rebuilt around the new | :12:33. | :12:34.
staircase and so when Brian was asked to replace it with a spiral | :12:35. | :12:45.
one, . Now the National park authorities say they welcome the | :12:46. | :12:49.
latest ruling pointing out that independent officials are found in | :12:50. | :12:51.
their favour. independent officials are found in | :12:52. | :12:54.
their While legal action is a last resort, ignoring the matter could | :12:55. | :13:02.
set a dangerous precedent, it said. This was a lovely place. I was | :13:03. | :13:06.
looking forward to living around here but this has blighted my life. | :13:07. | :13:16.
It is really depressing. It was a dream, it is a nightmare now. The | :13:17. | :13:21.
couple had hoped to see out their days in this house but now they fear | :13:22. | :13:24.
they will have to sell up to pay legal bills. The mother of missing | :13:25. | :13:33.
York student Megan Roberts has said the disappearance of her daughter | :13:34. | :13:36.
appears to be the result of a tragic run of events with no`one to blame. | :13:37. | :13:40.
Megan, who is 20, was last seen near Lendal Bridge more than a week ago. | :13:41. | :13:44.
Police say it is most likely she fell into the river after drinking | :13:45. | :13:48.
with friends. In a Facebook message, Megan's mother Jackie thanked people | :13:49. | :13:51.
for their support and said she would remain hopeful until it was certain | :13:52. | :13:54.
her daughter had ended up in the water. | :13:55. | :14:01.
Senior councillors in York have outlined how they plan to make | :14:02. | :14:04.
millions of pounds worth of savings. Over two years, 240 posts need to be | :14:05. | :14:08.
cut and ?23 million needs to be saved. Council tax is due to rise | :14:09. | :14:11.
1.9%, just below the amount the council thinks could trigger a | :14:12. | :14:16.
referendum. Transport Secretary Patrick | :14:17. | :14:19.
McLoughlin has been in Yorkshire to see improvements at two of our | :14:20. | :14:23.
railway stations. He visited the southern entrance to Leeds station, | :14:24. | :14:26.
which is due to undergo a ?17 million revamp, so that commuters | :14:27. | :14:30.
will have direct access to the station from the riverside. He also | :14:31. | :14:32.
officially opened Wakefield Westgate, which has recently been | :14:33. | :14:41.
refurbished. A man from York with a form of | :14:42. | :14:44.
Parkinson's disease is back in the UK after undergoing controversial | :14:45. | :14:47.
stem cell therapy in Ukraine. James DeLittle opted to have the treatment | :14:48. | :14:50.
after seeing his mobility and speech deteriorate over the past ten years. | :14:51. | :14:54.
The clinic claims to have good results but experts in UK say stem | :14:55. | :14:57.
cell science is not yet that advanced to treat Parkinson's | :14:58. | :15:10.
patients. Jamie Coulson reports. James DeLittle is home after going | :15:11. | :15:16.
in search of a miracle cure. The 49`year`old has a form of | :15:17. | :15:20.
Parkinson's disease that affects movement and speech. Last week he | :15:21. | :15:23.
went to Ukraine to undergo controversial treatment using stem | :15:24. | :15:30.
cells. I needed something for myself. Ten years of feeling rotten, | :15:31. | :15:38.
I need to feel better. Until ten years ago, James was fit and active. | :15:39. | :15:43.
Now he sometimes struggles to even get dressed. Last week he travels to | :15:44. | :15:50.
Ukraine, where, the ?6,000, he was injected with stem cells harvested | :15:51. | :15:56.
from aborted foetuses. The clinic claims to see improvements in 75% of | :15:57. | :16:00.
cases. There have been no trials or published evidence. | :16:01. | :16:10.
Stem cells are the building blocks of the body and, depending on where | :16:11. | :16:18.
they come from, have the ability to transform into almost any other type | :16:19. | :16:23.
of cell. Experts believe the regenerative power of stem cells | :16:24. | :16:29.
could lead to medical breakthroughs one day, but they also warned that | :16:30. | :16:34.
the science is not yet advanced the patients with Parkinson's disease. | :16:35. | :16:39.
These have not been tested and we do not know if they are safe, if they | :16:40. | :16:44.
work. There may be risks attached to having this treatment. Since | :16:45. | :16:50.
returning home, James believes he has seen an improvement in balance. | :16:51. | :16:54.
He understands why some people might be sceptical. I know plenty of | :16:55. | :17:06.
people say it is the placebo effect. I do feel better. James is convinced | :17:07. | :17:11.
the risk was worth it and all he can do now is wait and hope. | :17:12. | :17:18.
Before seven o'clock: Behind the scenes with the horses helping to | :17:19. | :17:27.
keep the peace. And we have been given exclusive | :17:28. | :17:31.
access to the mounted section of West Yorkshire Police to see how | :17:32. | :17:34.
they police a football game. And high drama on the pitch. Three | :17:35. | :17:38.
sendings off in the South Yorkshire derby, plus the rest of the weekend | :17:39. | :17:45.
action. Two teenagers from Barnsley have set up their own business | :17:46. | :17:50.
making artisan ice cream. Even though they only went into | :17:51. | :17:53.
production last November, they are already selling double the amount | :17:54. | :17:55.
they predicted, direct to their customers' doors. They have been | :17:56. | :17:59.
helped to get going by the Rotherham Young Enterprise Scheme, as Tom | :18:00. | :18:07.
Ingall has been finding out. Meet the kitchen hands, | :18:08. | :18:11.
manufacturers, delivery boys, and chief executives of the latest | :18:12. | :18:17.
Artisan food start`up in Yorkshire. These brothers do it all. And so | :18:18. | :18:23.
far, they seem to be doing it rather well. We have always corrupted home | :18:24. | :18:29.
and enjoyed doing it. We started off making ice cream at home and we have | :18:30. | :18:34.
ended up in this factory. We cannot make it quick enough. We make a 21 | :18:35. | :18:39.
flavours from vanilla, to Mango, and we have a signature flavour. We are | :18:40. | :18:47.
selling 120 litres a week and we cannot make the ice cream fast | :18:48. | :18:51.
enough. We make it one day and the next it will be gone. This is the | :18:52. | :18:56.
archetypal start`up business with equipment funded from the family, | :18:57. | :19:00.
this is where they make it, they freeze it there and it goes through | :19:01. | :19:04.
the doors to the waiting world. What's the premises might lack in | :19:05. | :19:09.
size, then make up for in terms of affordability. For the first six | :19:10. | :19:13.
months, they can stay here rent`free. They pay for electricity. | :19:14. | :19:18.
It is part of the rather run youth enterprise scheme. `` rather run we | :19:19. | :19:35.
have a good survival rate with many people trading. Their flavours are | :19:36. | :19:39.
currently delivered direct to customers doorsteps. They will soon | :19:40. | :19:44.
supply local cafes directly. Even so, their van is set to be joined by | :19:45. | :19:51.
mopeds so they can go door`to`door before demand belts away. | :19:52. | :20:04.
`` melts. Onto football now and we've already shown you the | :20:05. | :20:06.
highlights from the Leeds and Huddersfield game. | :20:07. | :20:09.
But elsewhere, there were goals and red cards aplenty. Here's a round`up | :20:10. | :20:13.
of the best of the rest of the weekend's action. | :20:14. | :20:22.
This partly debutante was one of three players to see red as | :20:23. | :20:26.
Sheffield Wednesday beat Barnsley 1`0. 24 hours after joining from | :20:27. | :20:32.
Arsenal, he was given two yellow cards in five first half minutes. | :20:33. | :20:38.
Johnson followed on 80 minutes while the midfielder joined them in injury | :20:39. | :20:44.
time, that was before McGuire scored in the 97th minute. The last kick of | :20:45. | :20:49.
the game. In league one, Sheffield United were | :20:50. | :20:54.
on the wrong end of a three ` zero thumping at Crewe Alexandra. Rather | :20:55. | :21:08.
run `` Rotherham. Keeping up the promotion push. A red card to | :21:09. | :21:19.
first`half bookings in this match. Chesterfield moved three points | :21:20. | :21:22.
clear at the top after a 3`1 win against Bristol ravers. `` Bristol | :21:23. | :21:31.

which is available on the website. Back to our main story ` the rapidly | :21:51. | :21:53.
changing situation at Leeds United. For police, responsible for the | :21:54. | :21:56.
safety of supporters attending Saturday's derby with Huddersfield, | :21:57. | :21:58.
the strength of feeling represented a big challenge. Our reporter Ian | :21:59. | :22:01.
White and cameraman Malik Walton were given exclusive access to spend | :22:02. | :22:05.
a day in the life with West Yorkshire Police's horse section as | :22:06. | :22:12.
they dealt with unfolding events. It is 8am at West Yorkshire | :22:13. | :22:16.
Police's operations unit near Wakefield. This is breakfast. Eight | :22:17. | :22:22.
o'clock, the horses get the breakfast at the same time. It will | :22:23. | :22:28.
be a busy day for the mounted section, policing the local derby | :22:29. | :22:36.
between Leeds and Huddersfield. They have been planning for the game from | :22:37. | :22:41.
weak spot unfolding of events at Leeds United mean that things change | :22:42. | :22:47.
by the minute. We have the issue of possible demonstrations. The | :22:48. | :22:51.
dynamics are changed, we are trying to deal with two contingencies. With | :22:52. | :22:58.
another game to police in Newcastle, just six horses are said to Leeds, | :22:59. | :23:03.
and the first stop is city square, where the encounters were friendly. | :23:04. | :23:08.
A big role is community engagement. If we stand here we have people | :23:09. | :23:13.
coming up and we have a chat and breakdown boundaries. If you have | :23:14. | :23:17.
two officers on foot, they probably would not speak to them. At Elland | :23:18. | :23:24.
Road, tensions are running high. With Leeds United in turmoil, there | :23:25. | :23:27.
are protests and the horses are coming into their own. Things were | :23:28. | :23:38.
getting tense behind the bank and `` behind the back and a car caught | :23:39. | :23:45.
fire. The horses still continue to attract people. Sometimes, they are | :23:46. | :23:50.
wanting for something, and they think because I am on a police | :23:51. | :23:57.
horse, they think they cannot be arrested `` wanted something. 5`1 | :23:58. | :24:02.
was the final score. The horses are needed to help break up rival. It is | :24:03. | :24:09.
just after 5pm and they have had a long day, but work is just starting | :24:10. | :24:14.
because the ground is emptying and there has been trouble. Officers on | :24:15. | :24:18.
foot needed help rounding up potential hooligans. The horses made | :24:19. | :24:22.
sure they went onto a bus and on their way home. You saw that little | :24:23. | :24:28.
bit of disorder but when you think 30,000 odd people, we are talking | :24:29. | :24:35.
about a maximum of 90 people, so it has been a great day. A shame we | :24:36. | :24:43.
have that, but a good day. I have been riding for five hours today. He | :24:44. | :24:48.
has had a long day and we have had a long day but the priority is to look | :24:49. | :24:51.
after them at the end of the long day, not us. When they are in bed, I | :24:52. | :25:04.
can finish. They are beautiful. They do an | :25:05. | :25:10.
amazing job will stop now the weather. Four flood warnings are in | :25:11. | :25:21.
place. Two in Scarborough. It has been incredible how the river | :25:22. | :25:26.
network has coped with what has been a wet winter. February looks set to | :25:27. | :25:33.
be almost exactly the same. This illustrates how mild it has been. | :25:34. | :25:39.
This is an oilseed rape field outside Scarborough coming into | :25:40. | :25:45.
flower. The end of January that was taken, quite remarkable. The second | :25:46. | :25:53.
is a big river. A very flashy river. The water feeds through the river | :25:54. | :26:00.
Luzon out into the North Sea. `` Ouse. Keep the pictures coming in. | :26:01. | :26:10.
Tomorrow is not too bad. Some sunny intervals and a few showers around. | :26:11. | :26:19.
This feature will bring rain on Tuesday night and Wednesday looks | :26:20. | :26:25.
unsettled. The weather front is slow`moving. It means this evening | :26:26. | :26:32.
and the first part of tonight will be dry, although cloud will | :26:33. | :26:39.
increase. A fairly narrow band of rain pushing north`east. Sleet over | :26:40. | :26:46.
the top. Latest night, in western and South Yorkshire, you might see a | :26:47. | :27:03.
sea patches. `` I `` icy patches. Sky should brighten, variable | :27:04. | :27:06.
cloud, showers coming through. The breeze will pick up later ahead of | :27:07. | :27:08.
the next weather system. Wet on Tuesday night and an | :27:09. | :27:22.
unsettled day on Wednesday. It is becoming a theme. Your job | :27:23. | :27:27.
must be very easy ` rain, rain, rain. Good night. | :27:28. | :27:58.
Why are you staring at me? Just wonder how things grow and grow | :27:59. | :27:59.
Why are you staring at me? Just wonder how things grow and grow | :28:00. | :28:09.
Yeah, well, mummies and daddies do argue sometimes. | :28:10. | :28:12. |
