Welcome to Monday's Look North. sexual assault and rape. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Welcome to Monday's Look North. On the programme tonight ` Bradford | :00:00. | :00:00.
supermarket giant Morrisons joins the price war. | :00:07. | :00:11.
But with a falling share prhce and profits expected to be their lowest | :00:12. | :00:14.
for five years, is this a ddsperate race for customers? | :00:15. | :00:18.
We ask what more the superm`rket can do. Also tonight: The widow of a | :00:19. | :00:23.
cyclist who died after hitthng a pothole is to sue North Yorkshire | :00:24. | :00:29.
County Council. And wrestling stars of the past tell | :00:30. | :00:33.
us how rounds in the ring ddcades ago have left them with injtries | :00:34. | :00:44.
today. And in sport, the ?2 million bonanza for Sheffield United. They | :00:45. | :00:47.
are on their way to Wembley in the semifinals of the FA Cup. And what a | :00:48. | :00:54.
beautiful spring picture. There are daffodils around. Join me for the | :00:55. | :00:56.
forecast later. But first tonight to questions about | :00:57. | :01:10.
the future of the Yorkshire`based supermarket chain, Morrisons. On | :01:11. | :01:12.
Thursday the retailer is expected to announce its lowest annual profit in | :01:13. | :01:16.
five years. Analysts now sax that the chain which has its head office | :01:17. | :01:19.
in Bradford is falling behind the likes of Tesco, Asda and Sahnsburys, | :01:20. | :01:23.
which has prompted it to john a price war. So what do Morrisons need | :01:24. | :01:26.
to do? Our business correspondent Danni Hewson is here. So ard | :01:27. | :01:34.
Morrisons struggling? Well, the figures don't lie. In a | :01:35. | :01:46.
nutshell, sales are down. 18% in six months. The price of milk is | :01:47. | :01:46.
tumbling down. The attempt to win months. The price of milk is | :01:47. | :01:51.
tumbling down. The attempt to over shoppers is the 24% `` 24p pint | :01:52. | :02:03.
Asda are the ones who consistently topped the list. But Morrisons are | :02:04. | :02:17.
the most vulnerable. Its low number of small local stores have been the | :02:18. | :02:24.
Achilles heel of the companx. That is changing, but is it enough? It is | :02:25. | :02:30.
a vanilla brand. There is nothing wrong with vanilla. It is not a | :02:31. | :02:36.
catastrophic model. It does not entice and stand out. That hs what | :02:37. | :02:39.
we urge towards in recession times. We want cheap, and to buy lots to | :02:40. | :02:48.
it, or buy luxuries. The middle ground is very difficult. They are | :02:49. | :02:54.
cutting prices on some prodtce as well as milk. What do shoppdrs | :02:55. | :02:59.
think? It is the nicer shopping experiences. I prefer the | :03:00. | :03:03.
vegetables. But I think it hs ? 0 more expensive. That is enotgh to | :03:04. | :03:11.
make me go to Asda. Yesterd`y, I went there to buy some wine at half | :03:12. | :03:19.
price. I was happy. If they want to compete, they will have two take | :03:20. | :03:23.
that market share back by doing the same thing. Soap to Thursdax, when | :03:24. | :03:28.
Morrisons is expected to announce its lowest profit for five xears. It | :03:29. | :03:38.
might have to sell off some of its property. It is not sure whdther it | :03:39. | :03:43.
should be low`cost or high value. Both is a tall order. | :03:44. | :03:51.
The widow of a cyclist who died after hitting a pothole is to sue | :03:52. | :03:56.
North Yorkshire County Council for damages. Martyn Uzzell was thrown | :03:57. | :04:00.
into the path of a car after hitting the pothole on the A65 near | :04:01. | :04:03.
Giggleswick two and a half xears ago. At an inquest last week, the | :04:04. | :04:07.
coroner said the state of the road was directly to blame for hhs death. | :04:08. | :04:09.
Cathy Killick reports. This was the pothole that khlled | :04:10. | :04:12.
Martyn Uzzell. It was more than ten centimetres deep, and had bden | :04:13. | :04:16.
reported to the Council by the police a month before the accident. | :04:17. | :04:22.
Martin was a service enginedr from Somerset who was taking part in a | :04:23. | :04:26.
charity ride from lands end to John O'Groats. He was an experienced | :04:27. | :04:33.
cyclist, but heating pothold took him into the path of a car. I am | :04:34. | :04:39.
very angry, because it was totally preventable. They had been warned, | :04:40. | :04:44.
they had inspected, and thex still did nothing. It is just app`lling. | :04:45. | :04:53.
It is the responsibility of local councils to maintain the ro`ds, but | :04:54. | :04:57.
you only have to look around to see there is a backlog of repair. The | :04:58. | :05:01.
coroner said there was no doubt whatsoever that the condition of the | :05:02. | :05:07.
road caused Martyn Uzzell's death. He decided that the council's | :05:08. | :05:15.
failure to fix the road would not press charges. I wanted thel to be | :05:16. | :05:20.
stand up and be counted for what they didn't do, but the way the law | :05:21. | :05:27.
is written, sadly, they cannot be prosecuted. North Yorkshire county | :05:28. | :05:30.
council says that it will consider the comments very carefully, and | :05:31. | :05:36.
will make a full and comprehensive response in due course. In the | :05:37. | :05:41.
meantime, Kate will sue the council herself as a way of holding it to | :05:42. | :05:43.
account. Ambulance workers with the Tnite | :05:44. | :05:54.
union in Yorkshire are on strike tonight over shift patterns. Their | :05:55. | :05:57.
members walked out at 3pm and will stay out until 8pm. Unite claims | :05:58. | :06:00.
proposed longer shift patterns could lead to staff working for up to ten | :06:01. | :06:04.
hours without a meal break `nd could put patient safety at risk. Managers | :06:05. | :06:07.
say they've taken steps to laintain safe and effective services. | :06:08. | :06:21.
Police looking for Ben Clarkson have issued a statement saying they want | :06:22. | :06:27.
to speak to a man who was w`lking in the same direction in Leia Thorpe. | :06:28. | :06:31.
He is thought to have spoken to Ben. | :06:32. | :06:38.
A man's been arrested after a teenage boy was stabbed sevdn times | :06:39. | :06:43.
at a shop in Huddersfield. The 15`year`old was attacked inside the | :06:44. | :06:46.
convenience store in Almondbury on Saturday afternoon. He remahns in | :06:47. | :06:49.
hospital but is expected to make a full recovery. A 27`year`old man was | :06:50. | :06:52.
arrested this morning on suspicion of assault. | :06:53. | :06:54.
A West Yorkshire lawyer has predicted today that there'll be no | :06:55. | :06:57.
solicitors left to fight for justice if massive cuts in legal aid start | :06:58. | :07:01.
coming into force in ten daxs time. Lawyers have been taking to the | :07:02. | :07:04.
streets recently warning thd public of what they call the most serious | :07:05. | :07:08.
threat in British legal history Our Correspondent John Cundy has been | :07:09. | :07:09.
investigating. They are normally arguing the law | :07:10. | :07:12.
inside courts like these, btt twice this year, barristers and solicitors | :07:13. | :07:16.
have stopped work to one of the threats they see from public justice | :07:17. | :07:19.
if the government drastically cuts legal aid. `` warn of the threats. | :07:20. | :07:23.
These are funds for defendants who cannot afford to support thdir own | :07:24. | :07:30.
cases. Aisha has been a solhcitor in Leeds for the last ten years. Local | :07:31. | :07:33.
businesses will no longer bd practising. There will not be a | :07:34. | :07:39.
criminal defence system left, and that is the black picture and the | :07:40. | :07:45.
bottom line. Lawyers are cl`iming that for people arrested right | :07:46. | :07:48.
across West Yorkshire, in ftture, there will be only 17 duty | :07:49. | :07:51.
solicitors rest to represent them. One aspect of a legal systel at | :07:52. | :07:56.
breaking point. They will h`ve someone who is running around, | :07:57. | :07:59.
trying to service an entire area, a massive area at breakneck speed | :08:00. | :08:05.
inexperienced, probably low level. Chris Moran is a self`emploxed | :08:06. | :08:10.
barrister with Chambers in Leeds. The legal system at the momdnt is | :08:11. | :08:13.
breaking point. If solicitors firms have to amalgamate and take on far | :08:14. | :08:17.
more cases per person, therd is only so much one lawyer can concdntrate | :08:18. | :08:23.
on at one time. Things will start to get missed. The Ministry of Justice | :08:24. | :08:29.
have defended their cuts in a statement. | :08:30. | :08:41.
It is the end of a profession. It is a end of the criminal justice | :08:42. | :08:46.
system, a system that has bden looked at and admired across the | :08:47. | :08:50.
world. Lawyers say that battle is for a legal system that has stood | :08:51. | :09:03.
for the last 400 years. Before seven o'clock: We've | :09:04. | :09:06.
certainly been put to the tdst this week. Join me later for Harry and | :09:07. | :09:16.
Amy's Tandem challenge. And how rounds in the ring decades `go have | :09:17. | :09:28.
impacted on these vintage fhghters. Now for the sport, and what a day | :09:29. | :09:34.
for Sheffield United. Here's Tanya. Yes, the biggest story of the | :09:35. | :09:37.
weekend was of course Sheffheld United who beat Charlton to reach | :09:38. | :09:40.
the semi`finals of the FA Ctp which will be played at Wembley. The | :09:41. | :09:44.
Blades became the first teal from the third tier of English football | :09:45. | :09:47.
to reach the last four sincd Wycombe Wanderers 13 years ago. Shalir Masri | :09:48. | :09:56.
joins us now from Bramall L`ne. Yes, it has been a fantastic FA Cup | :09:57. | :10:02.
run for Sheffield United. They beat Charlton, another championship | :10:03. | :10:05.
scalp. But of course, they have beaten championship opposithon `` | :10:06. | :10:10.
Premier league opposition as well. They play Hull city at Wembley in a | :10:11. | :10:14.
months time, and it is important for the fans of this club, but | :10:15. | :10:19.
financially, it is important for Sheffield United having reached this | :10:20. | :10:25.
stage of this competition. Ht raises ?2 million for the club. Ond thing | :10:26. | :10:30.
will be short, fans will not forget yesterday's game. | :10:31. | :10:35.
These were the scenes of celebration as Sheffield United booked their | :10:36. | :10:43.
semifinal place at Wembley hn front of over 30,000 at Bramall L`ne. They | :10:44. | :10:49.
beat Charlton 2`0, but it could have been different. | :10:50. | :10:53.
Within minutes, Ryan Flynn finished well, and the second came straight | :10:54. | :11:07.
after, with John Brayford's deflected shot making it 2`0. They | :11:08. | :11:16.
will face Hull city. The atlosphere and crowd in here today was special. | :11:17. | :11:22.
It was a great atmosphere against Nottingham Forest, nearly sold out | :11:23. | :11:28.
today, and it helped us tod`y. It got us through again. We ard not a | :11:29. | :11:37.
league one team with a performance like that. We are at Wemblex! The | :11:38. | :11:44.
players were still very much on a high. We will be going therd trying | :11:45. | :11:49.
to win. They are a Premier league side, Hull city. But we will give it | :11:50. | :11:56.
our best shot. We want to thank the supporters for getting us through | :11:57. | :11:59.
the tough times. We want to repay them a little bit. With a trip to | :12:00. | :12:05.
Wembley but, the celebrations could begin. `` booked. | :12:06. | :12:15.
The game will be played on dither the 12th or 13th of April at | :12:16. | :12:27.
Wembley. Well, a little earlier I caught up with the Blades' former | :12:28. | :12:30.
defender Chris Morgan, who now coaches at the club. | :12:31. | :12:33.
It is a fantastic achievement by everybody involved. I think at the | :12:34. | :12:36.
beginning of the season, if we had said to each other that we would be | :12:37. | :12:40.
at Wembley for an FA Cup selifinal, I think we would have been liles | :12:41. | :12:44.
away. But there is a lot of hard work that has gone into it, and I | :12:45. | :12:48.
must say that the players h`ve been excellent. They have been rdally | :12:49. | :12:51.
good, and we have been deserved winners in all of the ties. It is a | :12:52. | :12:56.
proper cup run. It is not one where you have had easy ties. A couple of | :12:57. | :12:59.
Premier League and Championship teams. You have done it properly. | :13:00. | :13:02.
Even when you look back to the Cambridge game, Cambridge wdre | :13:03. | :13:04.
flying in the Conference, and it was flying in the Conference, and it was | :13:05. | :13:08.
a really tricky game for us, but we have been to Villa Park, we have | :13:09. | :13:11.
been to fill, we have been to Forest, who were flying in the top | :13:12. | :13:15.
six of the Championship. `` Fulham. We have played all of the tdams from | :13:16. | :13:19.
higher leagues. I think we deserve it. You have seen a few of the down | :13:20. | :13:27.
times at Sheffield United. That must make it all the sweeter for | :13:28. | :13:30.
everybody. It does. When thd players and staff are walking round the | :13:31. | :13:34.
pitch like they did yesterd`y, and they were being applauded bx the | :13:35. | :13:37.
crowd, I think people deserve it. There have been good times, I have | :13:38. | :13:41.
been there 11 years now, and there have been some good times. But you | :13:42. | :13:45.
have the low times. But you come through it, and days like ydsterday | :13:46. | :13:48.
are why you are involved in football. And Wembley? Are xou | :13:49. | :13:51.
thinking about it? You can't ignore it, can you? Last week, we | :13:52. | :13:56.
encouraged it. I noticed Patl Cook speaking about it with Chesterfield | :13:57. | :14:02.
going to Wembley. We have worked hard to get there. It is solething | :14:03. | :14:06.
to look forward to. We will encourage it. We will keep their | :14:07. | :14:12.
feet on the ground, because it is a semifinal. We have a chance to get | :14:13. | :14:16.
to a final. But Hull City stand in the way, and it is Premier League | :14:17. | :14:22.
opposition. It is going to be a tough game. We will have our fingers | :14:23. | :14:31.
crossed for you. Thank you. Elsewhere in football, it w`s a very | :14:32. | :14:35.
different sort of weekend for Leeds United. | :14:36. | :14:37.
They were thrashed 5`1 at home to Bolton in front of more than 28 000 | :14:38. | :14:41.
fans at Elland Road. It means Leeds are unlikely to qualify for the | :14:42. | :14:44.
promotion play`offs and pressure is building on their manager Brian | :14:45. | :14:46.
McDermott. Our Harry spoke to him after the match. | :14:47. | :14:47.
United. You are a decent man, | :14:48. | :14:48.
promotion play`offs and pressure is but you must be under presstre. | :14:49. | :14:52.
Everyone is under pressure. You want to win. To be beaten in the way we | :14:53. | :14:57.
were today, it hurts, it re`lly does hurt. Is it difficult to face | :14:58. | :15:01.
questions like this when yot have had a performance like that? You | :15:02. | :15:06.
want to go and hide and think about the next game. No, I do not want to | :15:07. | :15:11.
hide. I am paid to answer qtestions and get results. I am looking to | :15:12. | :15:16.
train tomorrow with the teal, train again on Monday, and get re`dy for | :15:17. | :15:26.
our next game on Tuesday. So hard times for Leeds United as the | :15:27. | :15:28.
uncertainty over the club's ownership continues. But thdre was | :15:29. | :15:32.
some good news for our sides this weekend including a much nedded win | :15:33. | :15:33.
for Barnsley. Ian Bucknell has more. ownership continues. But thdre was | :15:34. | :15:36.
Barnsley seem to specialise in wonder goals. This time it was Dale | :15:37. | :15:41.
Jennings cutting in from thd left and finding a fine finish. That was | :15:42. | :15:45.
enough for a crucial 1`0 win against high`flying Nottingham Forest, as | :15:46. | :15:48.
the Tykes fight to stay in the Championship. Neighbours Doncaster | :15:49. | :15:50.
Rovers are also scrapping for survival. Billy Sharp diverted the | :15:51. | :15:53.
ball to put them ahead against Huddersfield. In the second half, | :15:54. | :15:56.
Mark Duffy had time to pick out David Cotterill to put Donnx 2` up | :15:57. | :16:01.
and that is the way it staydd. Permission for York City fans to get | :16:02. | :16:04.
excited now. Michael Coulson was given time and space to put his | :16:05. | :16:08.
header past the Wimbledon kdeper for a 1`0 win. York up to ninth and | :16:09. | :16:12.
closing in on the play`offs. And don't forget that you can sde all of | :16:13. | :16:16.
the highlights from our teals and much more on Late Kick Off. | :16:17. | :16:28.
That is at 11:20pm. In Super League, Castleford Tigers' | :16:29. | :16:35.
fantastic start to the season reached a new high yesterdax. An | :16:36. | :16:39.
early try from Kirk Dixon sdt them on their way to a 36`31 victory over | :16:40. | :16:42.
reigning champions Wigan Warriors. The Tigers remain unbeaten `nd | :16:43. | :16:45.
second in Super League on points difference. | :16:46. | :16:47.
fantastic start to the season And you can see more of that match | :16:48. | :16:51.
and all of the weekend's highlights on the Super League Show at ten to | :16:52. | :16:55.
midnight, on BBC One. And that's the sport. | :16:56. | :17:05.
Now, in just five day's timd we begin our Tandem Tour De Yorkshire. | :17:06. | :17:10.
Starting on Friday, we'll cxcle 241 miles tracking the first two stages | :17:11. | :17:13.
of this year's Tour De France. We'll tell you how you can donate in | :17:14. | :17:17.
a moment and show you our route but first to the cycling. Matt Slater | :17:18. | :17:21.
joined us for our final trahning ride with the country's biggest | :17:22. | :17:22.
cycling club. I'm Bradley, this is Beryl! With | :17:23. | :17:37.
that, we had infiltrated thd North is most notorious cycle gang. | :17:38. | :17:45.
Ilkley. Ilkley has a new cl`im to fame. A cycling club so big that | :17:46. | :17:51.
almost one in ten of the town is a member. 1200 strong in just three | :17:52. | :17:56.
years. How have they done it? We have got Facebook and Twittdr. We | :17:57. | :18:00.
have brought people in who would not necessarily have gone out. Back in | :18:01. | :18:05.
the day, it was turn up, sed if you could stick on the back, yot could | :18:06. | :18:09.
go home if you could not. Wd are pleased to have someone who is | :18:10. | :18:17.
coming along. Media savvy and willing to wait for anyone. That is | :18:18. | :18:24.
just what Harry and Amy needed. 250 miles in eight days in perfdct | :18:25. | :18:30.
harmony. Amy says she is dohng all the work. I am working very hard! | :18:31. | :18:37.
She stands up. I cannot control the Tandem. I get wobbly, and are full | :18:38. | :18:43.
of. Harry is a bit iffy with the gears! When we start, Harry will | :18:44. | :18:49.
change the gate of the wrong one. We are stopping and starting. Ht is | :18:50. | :18:53.
just getting the balance right. By the end of the week, we will be | :18:54. | :18:58.
fine. Absolutely fine. A whole week of wobbling? Any tips in thd | :18:59. | :19:06.
meantime? Pedal hard, be careful, but they have done really wdll. They | :19:07. | :19:10.
have done fantastically well. Uphill is quite challenging on a t`ndem, so | :19:11. | :19:18.
I am very impressed. With H`rry and Amy Riding for sport relief, let's | :19:19. | :19:22.
hope everyone is as generous as Stephanie. I think you are to | :19:23. | :19:31.

ourselves in for? Talk us through our gruelling journey. What is going | :21:02. | :21:09.
to be the worst challenge? The biggest challenge is gravitx. Not | :21:10. | :21:22.
the film, the Law of attraction that lies between all objects of mass. | :21:23. | :21:27.
When the road points up, yot just had to stamp on the pedals. | :21:28. | :21:37.
Howarth's cobblestone streets, you have to go for it. You are sharing | :21:38. | :21:43.
the roads with traffic. So go steady. Go steady on the descents. | :21:44. | :21:50.
We have had that before. Have you any advice when we fall off? Eyeful | :21:51. | :21:52.
of very grey Surrey `` gracdfully! It was more of a skid finish. | :21:53. | :22:11.
Absolutely. Remember it's all for a good cause! | :22:12. | :22:19.

You can send a good old chepue. Do you remember the days of World of | :22:37. | :22:55.
Sport on a saturday afternoon? At 4.00pm it was wrestling timd and the | :22:56. | :22:58.
audience was fantastic. Remdmber the likes of Mick McManus and Lds | :22:59. | :23:01.
Kellett? Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks? They were legends. Now | :23:02. | :23:05.
many of them are in their shxties, seventies and eighties! Thex took | :23:06. | :23:08.
part in a reunion yesterday, and if you ever thought wrestling was fake, | :23:09. | :23:11.
think again. These men and women have the scars and injuries to prove | :23:12. | :23:15.
how real it all was. Ian Whhte's been hearing their stories. | :23:16. | :23:18.
It is more than 25 years since wrestling was last a regular feature | :23:19. | :23:21.
on our TV screens. This weekend though, many stars will be back | :23:22. | :23:24.
together as a special reunion in Leeds. For some, just getting there | :23:25. | :23:28.
is an achievement in itself. Decades of being thrown around the ring has | :23:29. | :23:31.
taken its toll on their agehng bodies. I took some hard bangs three | :23:32. | :23:36.
or four times a week, every week, month after month for 25 ye`rs. Some | :23:37. | :23:39.
days, I am on a stick, and some days, I've managed with a fdw | :23:40. | :23:46.
painkillers, you know. Ailmdnts and injuries often form part of the | :23:47. | :23:49.
conversation here, proof, s`y the professional wrestling was `nything | :23:50. | :23:55.
but fake. I was refereeing ` women's bout between Nurse Deborah Drake and | :23:56. | :23:58.
Klondike Kate, and I accidentally collided with Klondike Kate, who was | :23:59. | :24:01.
British ladies' champion. She forearm smashed me in my face, broke | :24:02. | :24:08.
my nose which caused a bloodbath. I just managed to get out of the way, | :24:09. | :24:11.
and St John's Ambulance took me straight into Grimsby hospital. | :24:12. | :24:17.
World heavyweight champion Larty Jones was presented with a special | :24:18. | :24:21.
award to recognise the injuries that he lives with. These are all battle | :24:22. | :24:27.
scars here from where peopld kicked me in Japan. There was also an award | :24:28. | :24:33.
for Marge Farrah, the wrestler who took the Greater London Council to | :24:34. | :24:36.
court in the 1970s, claiming sex discrimination. I am asking for | :24:37. | :24:45.
women to fight women. That hs all we are asking. Mr Ron Farrah. She would | :24:46. | :24:51.
be amazed at getting recognhtion like this, because she never | :24:52. | :24:54.
considered herself in that sort of brigade. She would be very pleased. | :24:55. | :25:02.
The wrestlers here say that the aches and pains have been wdll worth | :25:03. | :25:07.
it. They hope to be back to swap more memories later in the xear | :25:08. | :25:15.
On Friday, we had a special Tandem training session. One thing I wanted | :25:16. | :25:24.
to road point out was this, because this was Paul on the back, but poll | :25:25. | :25:31.
actually gave me position of his wallet to look after. I havd never | :25:32. | :25:38.
been given it back! I almost collapsed at the end of it, and you | :25:39. | :25:42.
trotted into here and did the programme. The punters prefdr you on | :25:43. | :25:50.
the back. Let's have a look at the headline for the next 24 hotrs. It | :25:51. | :25:54.
is not a bad one. After a great start, places will turn mainly | :25:55. | :26:01.
Sunni. On Tuesday night into Wednesday, there will be low cloud, | :26:02. | :26:05.
mist and fog, which could bd reluctant to clear in places. But | :26:06. | :26:11.
what a beautiful day it is. That is the satellite sequence. It hs | :26:12. | :26:14.
turning pretty chilly. If wd skip through to the end of the nhght | :26:15. | :26:20.
temperatures low enough for some frost. Mist developing. Lowdst | :26:21. | :26:28.
temperatures across the Yorkshire Dales. Here are the times of high | :26:29. | :26:37.
water. A grey start in placds. Travel pretty quickly break up, and | :26:38. | :26:45.
then it will turn blue. Somd patchy Fairweather cloud. There will be a | :26:46. | :26:52.
gentle North East breeze. That is a chilly breeze. Seven or eight | :26:53. | :26:57.
degrees. In the shade it is chilly, in the sun it is beautiful. The mist | :26:58. | :27:03.
and cloud will be reluctant to clear. That is the forecast. One, | :27:04. | :27:16.
two, three. That is it from us! We will be back tomorrow. Goodbye. | :27:17. | :27:21. |
