worth up to ?2000. That is all from | :00:00. | :00:00.
worth up to ?2000. Welcome to Look North. Tonight, | :00:00. | :00:08.
we're live in Harrogate at the scene of a large fire. It started in a | :00:09. | :00:11.
pizza restaurant, but has now spread to surrounding buildings. Homes and | :00:12. | :00:15.
businesses have been evacuated. We'll have the very latest on the | :00:16. | :00:18.
ongoing emergency as acrid smoke covers most of the town centre. | :00:19. | :00:22.
Also tonight: What next for the takeover of Leeds United as | :00:23. | :00:25.
prospective new owner Massilo Cellino is found guilty of tax | :00:26. | :00:34.
evasion? It is really sad bdcause there does not appear to be anybody | :00:35. | :00:39.
with the right sort of monex and plan in the frame to take this club | :00:40. | :00:48.
anywhere. This has been one of the totghest | :00:49. | :00:51.
days of my life and I had a pain in my back. Day five and the worst | :00:52. | :00:58.
weather yet but the crowds still supported us in the pouring rain. | :00:59. | :01:02.
It has been a real honour to be here today and thousands of people have | :01:03. | :01:06.
turned out. Tomorrow looks good but the forecast the Thursday is | :01:07. | :01:12.
dreadful. Join us live later in the programme. | :01:13. | :01:19.
Good evening and welcome to Look North. The centre of Harrog`te is | :01:20. | :01:25.
gridlocked tonight, after a fire broke out at restaurant in Harrogate | :01:26. | :01:29.
Town Centre. The area is covered in thick smoke and some residents are | :01:30. | :01:32.
being put up in emergency accommodation overnight. 18 fire | :01:33. | :01:35.
engines are currently on thd scene. The fire broke out at a restaurant | :01:36. | :01:39.
in Albert Street. It remains closed tonight, along with the main A6 | :01:40. | :01:42.
between Robert Street and Cheltenham Crescent. It means that people | :01:43. | :01:46.
cannot get to the main railway station from the A61. Our rdporter, | :01:47. | :01:51.
Spencer Stokes, is in Harrogate for us tonight. Spencer, what is the | :01:52. | :01:59.
latest? Fire and thick smoke could be seen | :02:00. | :02:03.
from the centre of Harrogatd. Firefighters from across Yorkshire | :02:04. | :02:05.
have spent the day is tacklhng the breeze which started in the kitchen | :02:06. | :02:11.
of an Italian restaurant. Wd will call here this morning after a | :02:12. | :02:18.
report of smoke. Because of the design of the billing it hasn't | :02:19. | :02:26.
spread between the floors. Ht has passed through these areas `nd | :02:27. | :02:31.
detected. We have been taking teams into the area to locate the fire but | :02:32. | :02:40.
it is dangerous. As you can see the fire started in this restaurant | :02:41. | :02:45.
behind me at around 1130 thhs morning and five hours on, the blaze | :02:46. | :02:52.
is still going on with around 1 0 firefighters tackling it. Sdveral | :02:53. | :02:55.
streets in the scent of Harrogate have been cordoned off most of the | :02:56. | :02:59.
day. The flats above the rest and have been evacuated. Tonight, those | :03:00. | :03:03.
living there have been moved into emergency accommodation. Luckily, | :03:04. | :03:07.
nobody is thought to have bden injured. | :03:08. | :03:13.
Our reporter is live in Harrogate tonight. What is the latest? This | :03:14. | :03:22.
has been the district with fire burning its way through to | :03:23. | :03:26.
restaurants over the last sdven hours. Then into those 13 | :03:27. | :03:29.
apartments. Those apartments evacuated this morning but some | :03:30. | :03:34.
people arriving home tonight finding they have no homes. I am johned by a | :03:35. | :03:42.
member from the fire servicd. Can you give us the latest? We `re now | :03:43. | :03:50.
attacking this fire from thd birth and that is the safest way of | :03:51. | :03:58.
putting water on the fire. Restaurants to experience fhres but | :03:59. | :04:01.
why has this one affected sdveral buildings? It is a very old building | :04:02. | :04:06.
and we are trying to work ott the layout inside. No plans havd been | :04:07. | :04:14.
kept on the modernisation and the fire has got through various | :04:15. | :04:19.
panelling is and gaps betwedn floors. That has made it difficult | :04:20. | :04:22.
to get inside and deal with the fire. There has been lots of | :04:23. | :04:27.
destruction in Harrogate thhs afternoon. Will these streets be | :04:28. | :04:34.
open tomorrow? We will be hdre for a few hours tonight to make the | :04:35. | :04:37.
building is safe so investigators can get inside to have a better | :04:38. | :04:43.
look. There will be pedestrhan access through the street btt we are | :04:44. | :04:47.
mindful of the fact that businesses still need to run and some people | :04:48. | :04:54.
have been affected by it and the council is working with thel. | :04:55. | :04:59.
Yorkshire water says tonight some people in the Harrogate are` may | :05:00. | :05:02.
experience discolouration of the water and we should have a better | :05:03. | :05:05.
idea tomorrow morning about exactly what damage the fire has catsed to | :05:06. | :05:10.
the two restaurants and the 13 apartments. | :05:11. | :05:13.
Next tonight, there's furthdr uncertainty for Leeds United fans | :05:14. | :05:16.
this evening after an Itali`n court found the prospective new owner | :05:17. | :05:20.
guilty of tax evasion. Masshmo Cellino has been fined 600,000 euros | :05:21. | :05:24.
for failing to pay import t`x on his luxury yacht. This conviction makes | :05:25. | :05:27.
it unlikely that he'll now pass the Football League's Fit and Proper | :05:28. | :05:30.
Persons Act, which means he wouldn't be able to take over the running of | :05:31. | :05:34.
the club. Tanya Arnold has the story. | :05:35. | :05:42.
This is the yacht that could have ended his bid to buy Leeds Tnited. | :05:43. | :05:46.
This morning a court found him guilty of failing to pay import duty | :05:47. | :05:51.
on it and find him 600,000 duros. He has been think `` found guilty and | :05:52. | :05:58.
fined for tax fraud and fast `` that must weigh heavily when the foot | :05:59. | :06:01.
league make their decision. He would expect they would reject his bid for | :06:02. | :06:11.
Leeds United. Massimo Cellino's lawyered disagrees and says his | :06:12. | :06:17.
client will appeal. The verdict does not mean that Massimo Cellino is | :06:18. | :06:23.
guilty because in Italian l`w he can only begin day after the thhrd stage | :06:24. | :06:30.
of the process. It was at the end of January that Massimo Cellino agreed | :06:31. | :06:35.
a deal to take over 75% of Leeds United from the current owndrs. The | :06:36. | :06:39.
final piece in the jigsaw h`s been the foot league gratifying that | :06:40. | :06:43.
deal. The fans have been left in limbo. This is a sad day for the | :06:44. | :06:50.
club because the ownership hssue is in disarray. We know that the | :06:51. | :06:54.
current owners are not runnhng the show properly and who knows where | :06:55. | :07:00.
the club will go today? It hs really sad. Nobody is in the frame with the | :07:01. | :07:06.
right sort of money and plan to take this club anywhere. The football | :07:07. | :07:10.
league says it is continuing to talk to Massimo Cellino's represdntatives | :07:11. | :07:16.
and cannot comment further. It hopes to reach a decision within ten days. | :07:17. | :07:22.
Well Tanya joins us live now. So what does this mean now for the | :07:23. | :07:29.
club? Despite what his lawydr says, I cant believe that the football | :07:30. | :07:32.
league are not come to count this as a conviction and he will not pass | :07:33. | :07:40.
that fit and proper person 's test. The football league is in dhalogue | :07:41. | :07:44.
with his English lawyers. That is a big question of what happens next | :07:45. | :07:47.
because he has put money into the club and we know that the club is up | :07:48. | :07:53.
for sale because there is not enough money there. Is there a plan B if | :07:54. | :08:06.
Massimo Cellino does not take over? It goes back out on the open market. | :08:07. | :08:10.
He put his bid in in Januarx and we had a bid before then. Masshmo | :08:11. | :08:19.
Cellino has put quite a lot of money, around ?6 million, in just to | :08:20. | :08:25.
keep Leeds United running. This club isn't losing ?1 million a month so | :08:26. | :08:31.
whoever is out there who might be looking has got to have quite a lot | :08:32. | :08:34.
of money not just to buy it but to keep it going and pay the w`ges It | :08:35. | :08:38.
will be an interesting one when we get to march of who pays thd wages. | :08:39. | :08:44.
The managing director said last week the club would not go into | :08:45. | :08:51.
administration and he was adamant the club is not in a precarhous | :08:52. | :08:56.
financial position. But there is no hiding from the fact they w`nt a | :08:57. | :08:59.
buyer so if Massimo Cellino is not going to buy it they need to move | :09:00. | :09:03.
fast. The group that had bedn looking at it, group of loc`l | :09:04. | :09:06.
businessmen, are still lookhng at it at whether they'd have the kind of | :09:07. | :09:16.
money Leeds United needs, who knows? Later on Look North. Turning fat | :09:17. | :09:21.
into fuel. How left`over oil from frying pans in Bradford is powering | :09:22. | :09:28.
homes in the city. Look North has discovered 14,00 | :09:29. | :09:31.
council jobs have been lost in Yorkshire over the last thrde years | :09:32. | :09:34.
and it's thought 15,000 mord will go in the next three. Councils across | :09:35. | :09:37.
Yorkshire tell us they're f`cing their biggest ever challengd and | :09:38. | :09:41.
many won't be able to afford to provide basic services. Jamds | :09:42. | :09:49.
Vincent has more. Doncaster may have a brand`new | :09:50. | :09:53.
theatre funded in better tiles but now the council 's chief exdcutive | :09:54. | :09:57.
is watching her budget shrink by half and it is running out of money | :09:58. | :10:00.
for basic services. The warning is stark for councils across | :10:01. | :10:05.
Yorkshire. The whole of the state is stringing but the local govdrnment | :10:06. | :10:09.
the cuts are at a level we have not seen before in my lifetime. They are | :10:10. | :10:15.
worse in the North than somd places. It is change beyond anything we ve | :10:16. | :10:18.
seen before. Councils have to find things like looking at the children | :10:19. | :10:21.
and older people but as mondy gets tight leisure the arts and parks | :10:22. | :10:27.
have suffered. They are things that could be handed over to private | :10:28. | :10:31.
companies or volunteers. Thd friends of theirs Park have been looking | :10:32. | :10:37.
after this part of Doncaster for eight years. It is a passion and a | :10:38. | :10:41.
hobby but if the money runs out for council maintenance even thdy are | :10:42. | :10:45.
not sure they could take ovdr. We enjoy it and enjoy what we `re doing | :10:46. | :10:53.
because the impact is visible but if we felt it was like work it would | :10:54. | :11:05.
not be the same enthusiasm. We have to have an honest conversathon with | :11:06. | :11:07.
people about what councils can and can't do in the future. One thing is | :11:08. | :11:11.
for certain, though matter where you are, things are staying as they are | :11:12. | :11:17.
is not an option. As the gap narrows between what our councils h`ve to | :11:18. | :11:20.
provide and what they can afford, we're being told that more services | :11:21. | :11:26.
will be kept. In other news, exactly five years | :11:27. | :11:29.
after York woman Claudia Lawrence went missing, North Yorkshire Police | :11:30. | :11:32.
say they're about to reveal new information about her last known | :11:33. | :11:35.
movements. The case was reopened by a new team of detectives last year. | :11:36. | :11:39.
They're seeking help from the public about two vehicles seen near her | :11:40. | :11:42.
home around the time she disappeared. Police believe Claudia | :11:43. | :11:46.
was murdered, but her familx still hope she's alive. They are being | :11:47. | :11:56.
extremely thorough. It is a completely new team and | :11:57. | :12:01.
inexperienced team. Yes, I hope this is going to get somewhere. We can't | :12:02. | :12:09.
be too hopeful. Two boys and a man arrested after a | :12:10. | :12:13.
suspected arson attack in Doncaster have been released on bail. Six | :12:14. | :12:16.
children escaped unhurt aftdr the house on Acacia Road in Skellow was | :12:17. | :12:19.
set alight on Sunday evening. The children are thought to be `ged | :12:20. | :12:22.
between five and 15. The Unite union has announcdd four | :12:23. | :12:25.
more strike days in the ongoing dispute over Yorkshire ambulance | :12:26. | :12:28.
workers' shift patterns. Unhte says staff could work ten hours without a | :12:29. | :12:32.
meal break on some shifts. Ht fears patient safety could be put at risk. | :12:33. | :12:36.
Managers say steps have been taken to maintain safe and effecthve | :12:37. | :12:39.
services. The next walk`out of Unite's 375 members is planned for | :12:40. | :12:46.
Friday. The Kaiser Chiefs front man Ricky | :12:47. | :12:47.
Wilson is in Yorkshire todax Wilson is in Yorkshire todax | :12:48. | :12:58.
promoting the band's new album. 'Education, Education, Educ`tion and | :12:59. | :13:01.
War' is the band's first album since the songwriter Nick Hodgson left the | :13:02. | :13:05.
group. Ricky, who's from Kehghley in West Yorkshire, is also one of the | :13:06. | :13:09.
judges on the BBC One talent competition 'The Voice'. He hopes | :13:10. | :13:14.
his new role will help the group to sell more records. When I fhrst went | :13:15. | :13:25.
on the show, people didn't know who I was but now they have no way. It | :13:26. | :13:32.
will be good for business. Ht is partly the reason I did it. | :13:33. | :13:36.
One of the bidders to buy the Bradford Bulls has said on Twitter | :13:37. | :13:39.
that she doesn't think her offer will be accepted. Mandy Koukash | :13:40. | :13:42.
watched the match against Huddersfield on Sunday and said that | :13:43. | :13:45.
she hoped to become Bradford's new owner. But in a message on social | :13:46. | :13:49.
media site Twitter this morning she said, "I am hearing my bid will not | :13:50. | :13:52.
be the winning one". Football now and Sheffield Tnited's | :13:53. | :13:56.
winning streak came to an end with a 0`0 draw at Preston last night. The | :13:57. | :14:00.
Blades did get the ball in the back of the net but Conor Coady's strike | :14:01. | :14:05.
was ruled out for offside. Ht brings Sheffield United's ten game winning | :14:06. | :14:09.
run to an end and they are now ten points outside the League One | :14:10. | :14:12.
play`off places. Before 7:00pm: It's day fivd of the | :14:13. | :14:21.
Tandem Tour de Yorkshire. And it's really starting to hurt as Harry and | :14:22. | :14:24.
Amy hit more hills and bad weather in their 250 mile challenge for | :14:25. | :14:26.
Sport Relief. Now, do you ever wonder what to do | :14:27. | :14:39.
with old cooking oil or fat? Well, Yorkshire Water is collecting all | :14:40. | :14:45.
the waste oils. Fat is being used to power homes across Yorkshird in a | :14:46. | :14:48.
unique trial taking place in Bradford. In a UK first, Yorkshire | :14:49. | :14:51.
Water is collecting waste ohls and fats from homes in part of the city | :14:52. | :14:55.
to make renewable energy. The company hopes it will stop people | :14:56. | :14:58.
pouring oil down the drains and clogging up the sewers. Emm` Glasbey | :14:59. | :15:00.
reports. It is this type of oil caushng big | :15:01. | :15:05.
problems down in Yorkshire's sewers. If it ends up being poured down the | :15:06. | :15:10.
sink this can be the result. Fat clogging up the system leadhng to | :15:11. | :15:14.
flooding and millions of potnds worth of damage. It can be ` massive | :15:15. | :15:20.
problem. Last year we had 14,00 call`outs for blockages and around | :15:21. | :15:30.
?2 million. Not all of them were caused by things going down the | :15:31. | :15:35.
drain but a significant amotnt. So Bradford has been chosen for a | :15:36. | :15:40.
unique trial. Sewer flooding has caused problems on 80 occashons here | :15:41. | :15:44.
in the last five years and cooking with oils in this community is very | :15:45. | :15:48.
popular but now Yorkshire w`ter has given dozens of homes fact that s. | :15:49. | :15:54.
Tabs in which oil can be safely pawed away instead of going down the | :15:55. | :16:01.
drain. Most households would do it if they are honest. It is so easy to | :16:02. | :16:08.
do it. When you look at the locations, it is quite embarrassing. | :16:09. | :16:14.
The oil is collected from homes and comes to this tank at a loc`l | :16:15. | :16:18.
community centre but what you do with a tank full of fat? Yot turn it | :16:19. | :16:26.
into edges a day. For us, it turns into renewable energy. We are taking | :16:27. | :16:32.
something harmful in the dr`ins and turning it into something rdnewable. | :16:33. | :16:38.
So the fat is being used to power Yorkshire homes. This 1000 litre | :16:39. | :16:43.
tank could provide enough energy to run the average house for one year. | :16:44. | :16:47.
Or it could power a microwave the 3000 hours or could provide the | :16:48. | :16:53.
electricity to make a quartdr of 1 million cups of tea. With more fat | :16:54. | :16:58.
and oil arriving at Yorkshire water trick works every day, more homes | :16:59. | :17:17.
could soon be joining the trial Let's catch up now with Harry and | :17:18. | :17:20.
Amy who've had their toughest day so far of their Tandem Tour de | :17:21. | :17:25.
Yorkshire. They're riding all 2 0 miles of the two Yorkshire stages of | :17:26. | :17:29.
the Tour de France on a tandem to raise money for Sport Relief. So | :17:30. | :17:32.
just to remind you where thdy have been today. They started thhs | :17:33. | :17:37.
morning in Harrogate. They've been to Blubberhouses and Addingham, | :17:38. | :17:39.
where I delivered Amy some bath salts. Silsden and Keighley, | :17:40. | :17:43.
finishing up in Bronte country in Haworth. That means they have now | :17:44. | :17:49.
cycled about 180 miles. But it's not all been plain sailing. Tod`y has | :17:50. | :17:53.
been tough, very tough. Thex've had rain, they've had hills and now | :17:54. | :17:57.
Harry is nursing a very sord back. How are you both coping? Welcome to | :17:58. | :18:13.
Howarth. It has been the totghest days so far. If I was going to give | :18:14. | :18:19.
up on this challenge it probably would have been today. The rain was | :18:20. | :18:23.
incessant and the wind blew us off course. Then we arrived at the | :18:24. | :18:30.
Devonshire Arms and a local school gave us ?450. We had a lovely | :18:31. | :18:40.
reception in Silsden. The rdception here at Howarth was fantasthc as | :18:41. | :18:45.
well. So far we have raised over ?23,000. 3000 of that was in | :18:46. | :18:50.
donations along the route today The crowds have been amazing. D`y five | :18:51. | :18:59.
100 and 80 miles in and the most difficult days so far. Blubber | :19:00. | :19:07.
houses was horrific. It was like having water being thrown over your | :19:08. | :19:14.
head. Sydney and live in thdir 0s were waiting for us and thex | :19:15. | :19:21.
followed us all the way. The founder of the Tour de France | :19:22. | :19:25.
wanted his race to be so hard only one rider could reach the fhnish. It | :19:26. | :19:31.
did not quite turn out that way in 1903 or any year since but there | :19:32. | :19:35.
were moments today when it seemed this race might be the war of | :19:36. | :19:50.
attrition he was hoping for. It is just searing pain at times that | :19:51. | :19:53.
cripples you. Then it goes `nd comes back. The rain is not helping | :19:54. | :20:08.
either. It is tough today. To the long list of celebrities hurting | :20:09. | :20:11.
themselves in the name of charity, we can now add look North's finest. | :20:12. | :20:23.
It is often said that cycling is a sport which is all about suffering. | :20:24. | :20:30.
The idea being that the riddr cars `` cat `` that can in view of the | :20:31. | :20:37.
most pain winds. Harry and @my have been exploring that today. This | :20:38. | :20:41.
tandem tour is a juggernaut that cannot be stopped. They are getting | :20:42. | :20:48.
by with help from their fridnds I had to bring them a present because | :20:49. | :20:53.
they are doing such a brillhant job. And a lot of support from pdople. | :20:54. | :21:13.
Are you still alive? No need for that Paul but thanks for brhnging | :21:14. | :21:21.
some better weather with yot. I have to admit, I did have a few | :21:22. | :21:57.
tears today. Paul, you joindd us for the first time today. How dhd you | :21:58. | :22:02.
find it? What an honour. I have never seen so many people. Ht felt | :22:03. | :22:10.
like the Queen was going to arrive! The weather conditions were bad You | :22:11. | :22:20.
had driving rain and the wind was gusting. I don't know how you got up | :22:21. | :22:25.
that hill. We went past a school and the kids had been standing hn the | :22:26. | :22:29.
region `` rain to see you. H feel honoured. Then it came to Kdighley. | :22:30. | :22:41.
He joins us for five miles of the entire journey and Paul gets us lost | :22:42. | :22:49.
in his home town. The producers said to me, we will meet you at Keighley | :22:50. | :22:53.
train station but he met Howarth train station. We got there in the | :22:54. | :23:04.
end. You will never be allowed to forget that. Then we arrived here at | :23:05. | :23:11.
Howarth. Then we had the te`rs from you. I felt like I was | :23:12. | :23:15.
hyperventilating and it was all a bit much. Coming up the pebbles was | :23:16. | :23:26.
the hardest bit me. I only did seven miles but coming up the first hill | :23:27. | :23:32.
past the church, I thought xou were going to give up at the top but you | :23:33. | :23:38.

Thank you to everyone here. Let s know `` let's handover to P`ul for | :25:04. | :25:07.
the weather forecast. The worry we have got is not so much tomorrow but | :25:08. | :25:19.
a bit later in the week. Tolorrow is going to be a windy day. Thtrsday, | :25:20. | :25:26.
you could not have wished for worst conditions for the toughest part of | :25:27. | :25:29.
the tour. Heavy rain and strong winds. But you will do it. | :25:30. | :25:38.
Tomorrow is not looking likd a bad day at all. A bit of low `` low | :25:39. | :25:47.
cloud. The odd spot of drizzle but generally speaking, a nice day. They | :25:48. | :25:53.
will be some sunshine. It whll be windy but at least it should be | :25:54. | :25:58.
mostly dry. For overnight tonight it looks fine. All parts becomhng dry | :25:59. | :26:04.
once these showers have cle`r. Temperatures drifting back to around | :26:05. | :26:13.
five degrees. We have had a few sharp showers from the West tonight | :26:14. | :26:17.
but they will gradually drive away `` move away. Tomorrow is a nice | :26:18. | :26:28.
day. A bit of low cloud and the odd bit of drizzle but it should be fine | :26:29. | :26:31.
and bright with plenty of stnshine. It will be windy over the hhlls but | :26:32. | :26:36.
look at the temperatures. Hhghs of around 16 Celsius in some southern | :26:37. | :26:42.
and eastern parts. Even over the hills, bit of strength in the sun | :26:43. | :26:49.
with highs of 13 degrees. Not a great day on Thursday. An active | :26:50. | :26:52.
cold front will bring heavy rain and strong south`westerly winds. For the | :26:53. | :26:59.
final day on Friday it is stnshine and scattered showers. The real | :27:00. | :27:01.
challenge will be Thursday afternoon. But you can do it. | :27:02. | :27:09.
We had the news today that Paul is going to buy a round of drinks in | :27:10. | :27:18.
the pub down there. This has been an incredible day for Amy and lyself. | :27:19. | :27:23.
It has been tough and I can't thank the people of the area enough for | :27:24. | :27:29.
what they have done today. Thank you very much. Tomorrow we are going to | :27:30. | :27:35.
be doing it all over again `nd we will be from Howarth from 9:30am in | :27:36. | :27:44.
the morning. From everybody here, thanks for joining us. See xou | :27:45. | :27:46. |
