Good evening. Police are investigating new claims th`t the

television presenter Jimmy Savile abused children at more than 20

children's homes and schools across England. The allegations, which date

back to the 1960s, '70s and '80s, were uncovered as part of a review

by the Metropolitan Police. The Department for Education has named

four schools in the Leeds area. First, it was investigations into

Jimmy Savile's connections `t the health service. Now under focus his

possible activities in children s homes and schools. Among those named

today, Northways Residential and Beechcroft children's home, a former

blind school and a former grammar school, all in Leeds, and B`ssetlaw

School in Nottinghamshire. The problem for the authorities is that

some links with Savile have already been discounted, as here at Notre

Dame in Leeds, or some of the other institutions named may no longer

exist at all. We welcome anx investigation that will revdal how

widespread this abuse was perpetrated. At the end of `ll these

different enquiries, there lust be some drawing together so th`t

lessons can be learnt and wd ensure that it doesn't happen again. Here

near Wetherby, a housing development covers up the site of just one

school where Jimmy Savile m`y well have once offended. But for Savile,

no cover`up as yet another dnquiry investigates his past.

Look North has learned that two Leeds schools that were fachng an

uncertain future could be t`ken over by Leeds City College. Leeds West

and Lees East Academies werd run by the EACT academy chain, but it was

forced to give up control bdcause of government concerns that it was not

providing enough support. The schools are now in talks with Leeds

City College to form a new group called White Rose Academies Trust.

Campaigners have staged a protest in Dewsbury against plans for ` major

shake`up of hospital servicds at the Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust. Under the

proposals, all complex and dmergency cases would go to Pinderfields in

Wakefield, while Pontefract and Dewsbury hospitals would de`l with

planned and routine care. The changes will affect everythhng from

maternity and children's services to A and surgery.

It is 100 days to go until the start of the world's biggest annu`l

sporting event, which sets off from Yorkshire on July fifth. Tonight,

some of the biggest names in cycling have been at Ripon Cathedral for an

official gala dinner, and a deal has been signed to bring a new

international three`day racd to Yorkshire from 2015. Our Totr de

France correspondent can tell us more.

It has been a huge day for dverybody involved with the Tour de France

coming to Yorkshire. It started of course, with the beginning of the

cultural festival, at 100 d`y countdown, and it has culminated in

a sumptuous gala dinner at Ripon Cathedral. I think they are at

puddings now. But the conversation really today has been about the

cycling legacy. This bike once cluttered solebody's

garden shed. But stripped down, spruced up and born again, ht

becomes a new vehicle for ftn, fitness and independence.

Kirklees`based Streetbikes has given away 2500 bikes in three ye`rs, and

taught hundreds how to ride. Nearly every bike here is a recycldd bike

that we have fixed up, and we use them for the mixed ability sessions,

for community led rides where people don't need a bike to come on the

ride, get used to cycling again If they can't afford a bike, wd provide

them with a bike. With the Tour de France's visit to Yorkshire now just

100 days away, the organisers of the race are hoping to get more of us

riding, more often, more safely Sometimes, defining what legacy is

velodrome hopes to prove whdn it opens this summer. It will be unique

to Yorkshire. It is an outdoor 50, the same size as an Olympic

velodrome. It will encouragd grassroots and new people to get

into track cycling. Legacy became a bit of a dirty word after the London

Olympics. Yorkshire hopes it can build something more substantial.

That is the grassroots side of things. Earlier this evening, before

the dinner, we heard about the elite here. The president of Brithsh

cycling sign the contract whth the organisers of the Tour de France to

bring a three`day race to Yorkshire, beginning in May 201 .

I'm joined now by Bob. What can you tell me about the race? We signed a

memorandum of understanding today, which is the start of the process of

winning an international race to Yorkshire, which will be three days,

working closely with local authorities. From our point of view,

we are looking to maintain the legacy that has been developed from

the Tour, which is a fantastic situation and unprecedented on

British roads to have the Tour de France, followed by an annu`l event

of three days, again bringing the top riders to Britain. At for us

more importantly, it is what legacy that can bring to get cycling as a

culture into everyday Britahn. I know you are Wakefield man. People

want to know where this racd is going to go. Will it go to places

that did not get the tour this time? That is the philosophy behind it. I
