Missing in the Malaysian jungle for six days.

:00:00.:00:07.

The mother of Yorkshire backpacker Gareth Huntley joins search teams

:00:08.:00:09.

I am sure we are going to find him alive.

:00:10.:00:23.

a life`saving lesson ` the fire safety campaign for the Sheffield

:00:24.:00:28.

community where five members of one family were killed in their home.

:00:29.:00:34.

Join me later where I will be revealing myself to Harry. And

:00:35.:00:43.

unsettled week to come across Yorkshire. Join me for the latest.

:00:44.:00:51.

The mother of a backpacker who's been missing for nearly a week

:00:52.:00:54.

in Malaysia has today met the search teams trying to find him.

:00:55.:00:58.

Gareth Huntley, a Leeds University graduate, hasn't

:00:59.:01:01.

been seen since he went on a trek to visit a waterfall in Tioman Island.

:01:02.:01:05.

His mother Janet has flown out there, leaving

:01:06.:01:07.

his brother anxiously waiting for news at his home in Armley.

:01:08.:01:17.

Gareth Huntley was volunteering on Tioman Island with

:01:18.:01:21.

a turtle conservation project. Last Tuesday he set out alone

:01:22.:01:25.

into the Malaysian jungle to visit a local waterfall.

:01:26.:01:28.

He never returned. Search teams went out to find him

:01:29.:01:33.

straightaway but it took four days before the national Malaysian police

:01:34.:01:35.

were involved after Gareth's family set up a campaign to push

:01:36.:01:41.

for greater action. It seemed to be taking longer

:01:42.:01:45.

than we wanted it to. We needed the search to be

:01:46.:01:49.

as intense as it is now on day two rather than day four, five.

:01:50.:01:54.

We appreciate the Malaysian authorities and the foreign office

:01:55.:01:59.

are getting together to organise the search and rescue for my brother.

:02:00.:02:04.

It is understood the trail Gareth followed through the jungle is

:02:05.:02:08.

poorly marked and easily lost. The dense vegetation is also making

:02:09.:02:10.

the search and rescue operation challenging.

:02:11.:02:16.

Now many more police officers, dogs and helicopters are being

:02:17.:02:21.

deployed to find him. His mum, Janet, appealed to David

:02:22.:02:25.

Cameron for help and travelled to the island to push for more action.

:02:26.:02:29.

Now the Malaysian authorities say every resource is being utilised.

:02:30.:02:35.

I'm sure we are going to find him alive and he's going to be fine.

:02:36.:02:39.

There's plenty of water around and I can see that we are going to find

:02:40.:02:43.

him. With this effort, it is fantastic.

:02:44.:02:48.

I am positive. He is a very resourceful and smart.

:02:49.:02:54.

It is critical we keep searching for him to get him the support he

:02:55.:02:59.

needs to get out of the jungle. Gareth Huntley told friends

:03:00.:03:02.

at the conservation project he would be back by two o'clock

:03:03.:03:07.

after trekking to the waterfall. He has now been missing for six days

:03:08.:03:09.

and his family continue to hope. Well Malaysia is seven hours ahead

:03:10.:03:14.

of us so a little earlier I spoke to our correspondent Jennifer Pak

:03:15.:03:20.

for the latest on the search. We are more than six days since he

:03:21.:03:33.

went missing and the rescue teams have rested for the evening. It is

:03:34.:03:39.

pitch black out here but tomorrow morning, the fire Department, the

:03:40.:03:44.

rescue teams, the search dogs, the helicopters, they will be all out

:03:45.:03:49.

again to search for him. The biggest challenge according to the police is

:03:50.:03:55.

the fact that the hills are steep and it is covered in dense jungle so

:03:56.:03:59.

it is making be searched difficult. Today we have had Gareth Huntley's

:04:00.:04:07.

mother and friends arriving on the island to show their support. They

:04:08.:04:11.

are extremely optimistic that they will be able to find him that now we

:04:12.:04:16.

are talking about six days on and it is extremely hot comic humid and the

:04:17.:04:25.

concern is he is out here hurt. How is his mother bearing up? She's

:04:26.:04:32.

doing extremely well considering the circumstances. She has been willing

:04:33.:04:40.

to speak to the media. She does hold out optimism that they will be able

:04:41.:04:45.

to find him. She described him as a fit person who is very active but

:04:46.:04:49.

she knew something was wrong when he said he was going to go for a short

:04:50.:04:56.

trek to the waterfall and didn't appear two days on. They were

:04:57.:05:00.

worried about the Malaysian search here and were getting conflicting

:05:01.:05:03.

messages that the authorities were not doing all they can to help. Now

:05:04.:05:10.

they have been briefed by the police chief and she is satisfied they are

:05:11.:05:15.

doing everything they can. The police say they are expanding the

:05:16.:05:22.

search area from the waterfall out five kilometres and sending teams to

:05:23.:05:26.

search for him. Protecting Yorkshire's heritage

:05:27.:05:30.

from the World War One bombs. We reveal how York Minster kept its

:05:31.:05:33.

precious stained glass in one piece. A fire safety campaign has begun

:05:34.:05:40.

in the Sheffield community where five members of the same family

:05:41.:05:43.

were killed in their home. South Yorkshire Fire

:05:44.:05:46.

and Rescue has teamed up with the Madina Mosque in the city to offer

:05:47.:05:49.

sessions to parents and children. One of the issues being addressed

:05:50.:05:52.

is the danger of leaving Kate Bradbrook has this

:05:53.:05:55.

exclusive report. And afternoon away from traditional

:05:56.:06:17.

lessons for these children at the mosque. They are learning about the

:06:18.:06:21.

work done by firefighters. Although it might be fun there is an

:06:22.:06:29.

important message behind it all. After the tragic fire in Sheffield,

:06:30.:06:36.

we want to improve people's awareness of the types of risk there

:06:37.:06:42.

is in the home in relation to fire and improve their knowledge about

:06:43.:06:47.

what they can do if they fired a start. It is five weeks since five

:06:48.:06:53.

members of a family lost their lives including a grandmother, aunt, two

:06:54.:07:00.

brothers and their baby sister. It is thought the blaze was started by

:07:01.:07:06.

a charger, most likely from a mobile phone or laptop. Today, the message

:07:07.:07:11.

for youngsters was simple. I have learned to deal with a fire in the

:07:12.:07:18.

house, the risk that a fire can cause you shouldn't charge your

:07:19.:07:23.

phone at night. I think it has been useful. I didn't know about the

:07:24.:07:31.

phone and `` about the phone thing. Two charges overnight. They have

:07:32.:07:36.

listened and have hung on to every word. They take it home to their

:07:37.:07:40.

parents. Most fires can be avoided and even if it can't be avoided,

:07:41.:07:45.

there shouldn't be any reason why people should get hurt if they have

:07:46.:07:49.

a basic understanding and how to avoid it and the best escape plan.

:07:50.:07:54.

More sessions like this are planned for the coming weeks. The hope is

:07:55.:07:59.

that through education, future tragedies can be avoided.

:08:00.:08:04.

The NSPCC says 500 reports of abuse by Jimmy Savile are now

:08:05.:08:08.

being investigated, that's 50 more than previously reported.

:08:09.:08:11.

The figure has emerged from a study commissioned

:08:12.:08:13.

It found the age group Savile most commonly

:08:14.:08:18.

targeted was 13 to 15 years old, his youngest alleged victim was two.

:08:19.:08:22.

The abuse happened across six decades in BBC dressing rooms,

:08:23.:08:25.

And you can see that episode of Panorama on BBC One at 8:30

:08:26.:08:33.

Police divers have recovered the body of a man who went missing after

:08:34.:08:39.

going for a swim in a reservoir near Barnsley at the weekend.

:08:40.:08:42.

38`year`old Jonathan Pardon from Huddersfield had been camping

:08:43.:08:44.

next to Snailsden Reservoir on Saturday night.

:08:45.:08:46.

A major police search was launched after he was seen

:08:47.:08:49.

The Pakistani politician and former cricketer, Imran Khan, is

:08:50.:08:56.

to step down from his role as the University of Bradford's Chancellor

:08:57.:08:59.

He has awarded degrees to many students in Bradford and has also

:09:00.:09:05.

set up one of the fastest growing colleges in Pakistan, Namal College,

:09:06.:09:08.

where students also receive University of Bradford degrees.

:09:09.:09:13.

Mr Khan says he's giving up the role because of increasing political

:09:14.:09:16.

Students at Leeds East Academy have today seen their work go on display

:09:17.:09:29.

The abstract art exhibition is part of a project aimed

:09:30.:09:35.

at motivating youngsters who struggle with mainstream education.

:09:36.:09:37.

Work by Jasper Johns, Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko has

:09:38.:09:39.

inspired the students to create these three canvases.

:09:40.:09:43.

We only need to sell one and it will fund a trip to the Tate modern in

:09:44.:09:59.

Liverpool. It will inspire the students. I quite like Jackson

:10:00.:10:11.

Pollock for the impact that he had in general and how inspiring his

:10:12.:10:12.

work is to me. The latest on Cellino's pow wow

:10:13.:10:19.

with the Leeds United players. Plus Yorkshire rolls out

:10:20.:10:23.

the red carpet for the Tour race favourite as he gets to grips with

:10:24.:10:26.

the Grand Depart route. And everyone's favourite TV vicar

:10:27.:10:31.

is branching out with a one woman Your pay doesn't go

:10:32.:10:34.

into your bank and your new chairman calls you in from

:10:35.:10:47.

holiday for an emergency meeting. Yes another day in the life

:10:48.:10:51.

of a Leeds United footballer. Massimo Cellino called the players

:10:52.:10:54.

in after the manager left the club A difficult time to say

:10:55.:10:57.

the least for the players. Well, Brian McDermot called

:10:58.:11:06.

BBC Radio Leeds' reporter Adam Pope He said how gutted he was to be

:11:07.:11:25.

leaving the club. He has been honoured to have run it and wished

:11:26.:11:31.

he could stay. They have come to an amicable `` amicable agreement. He

:11:32.:11:36.

had two years left on his contract. They have gone their separate ways

:11:37.:11:40.

now he has a chance to appoint a coach, which is what he wants. What

:11:41.:11:46.

happened today? They were meeting him at 12 o'clock today and I spoke

:11:47.:11:49.

to a couple of the players before they went in because they were

:11:50.:11:54.

having some treatment. They were bewildered as to what to expect.

:11:55.:11:57.

They don't know when they will train, when they are due back and

:11:58.:12:03.

who will be the new coach. One of the current helpers at the club said

:12:04.:12:10.

it was a great meeting and everyone is up for it and it is a good start

:12:11.:12:17.

to whatever the new regime will be. Who is in the running for the job?

:12:18.:12:23.

There is plenty of names so far. At the top of the list is Gianluca

:12:24.:12:33.

Festa. Then there is Gianfranco Zola. We have Jimmy Floyd Hassell

:12:34.:12:41.

bank, the former Leeds player has been mentioned.

:12:42.:12:47.

What has been the reactions of Leeds fans? They have caused a real stir.

:12:48.:13:09.

There are ten names on the list. What is your hunch? My hunch is it

:13:10.:13:14.

will be a coach on a lot less money than before. It may not be a massive

:13:15.:13:19.

name but someone who may be able to galvanise a set of players that will

:13:20.:13:20.

be decided on by the owner. Tour De France champion Chris Froome

:13:21.:13:25.

was in Yorkshire this weekend to practice the route and pose

:13:26.:13:28.

for all your pictures! Yes, Yorkshire got a taste

:13:29.:13:31.

of just how big the Grand Depart will be next month when the British

:13:32.:13:34.

cycling star defends the title he And lots

:13:35.:13:38.

of you turned out to watch Chris and some of his Team Sky colleagues

:13:39.:13:48.

taking part in their practice ride. So whether you were

:13:49.:13:52.

in Blubberhouses, Mytholmroyd or Cragg Vale,

:13:53.:13:54.

thanks for sending us your snaps. We sent our Tour De France

:13:55.:13:57.

correspondent Matt Slater to Harrogate to meet the British

:13:58.:14:00.

champion. They came out to see Chris Froome.

:14:01.:14:13.

It became a full`blown meet and greet and a preview to what awaits

:14:14.:14:19.

in July. It is going to be overwhelming for us. It is a bit

:14:20.:14:26.

like the Olympics. We are just going to have a huge home crowd out there

:14:27.:14:33.

supporting us and if riding around on the roads is anything to go by,

:14:34.:14:38.

that is what we can expect. I think Chris Froome will ride it well. How

:14:39.:14:48.

excited are you about the race? Very. I will watch it on telly. Are

:14:49.:14:56.

you going out on the road? I might do. Do you want to be a cyclist when

:14:57.:15:02.

you grow up? Yes, but I am not good enough. Being stuck behind cyclists

:15:03.:15:09.

is a common complaint for cyclists in Yorkshire but at least this `` at

:15:10.:15:13.

least this group were really motoring. The tourists are five

:15:14.:15:20.

weeks ago eight. We see the defending champion out on our

:15:21.:15:25.

roads, it feels real. This is the longest continuous uphill gradient

:15:26.:15:30.

that a mere speed bump for Chris Froome. He was joined by other

:15:31.:15:37.

riders on this trip. What do they make of it? It was good fun

:15:38.:15:41.

yesterday riding stage one and seeing the reactions. Wow, we are

:15:42.:15:48.

actually in England here. You got backdrops that looks similar to the

:15:49.:15:54.

Tuscan hills. It is beautiful out there. I don't think any of us

:15:55.:16:03.

expected that. Perhaps in years to come, some they will say, " these

:16:04.:16:14.

Tuscan hills look just like the. I do remember that headwind. You had

:16:15.:16:16.

a lay down halfway through. In boxing Doncaster's Jamie

:16:17.:16:19.

McDonnell became a two`time world champion after winning at Wembley

:16:20.:16:21.

on Saturday night. McDonnell fought Na Rachawat

:16:22.:16:24.

from Thailand on the Froch Groves undercard

:16:25.:16:27.

for the vacant WBA world title. He knocked out his opponent

:16:28.:16:29.

in the tenth round in what was an impressive

:16:30.:16:33.

performance by the 28`year`old. It was the biggest night in British

:16:34.:16:44.

boxing history since wartime. Many of the 80,000 at

:16:45.:16:47.

Wembley Stadium were there for the main event.

:16:48.:16:50.

Carl Froch who trains in Sheffield retained his world title after

:16:51.:16:54.

stopping George Groves but he wasn't the only world beater in action.

:16:55.:16:57.

Jimmy McDonnell from Hatfield boxed early in the

:16:58.:17:03.

evening for the vacant WBA title. His opponent was from Thailand

:17:04.:17:08.

but McDonnell, who had been stripped of one world title, was determined

:17:09.:17:13.

not to lose this one. The 28`year`old knocked him out

:17:14.:17:23.

in the 10th round with a left hook. I wondered where he had gone.

:17:24.:17:27.

He was on the floor. When he waved it off,

:17:28.:17:30.

I was in shock. I didn't know what to do.

:17:31.:17:32.

What a great event and great to be part of it.

:17:33.:17:35.

I am buzzing. I'm getting married in a week

:17:36.:17:38.

and having a baby. Things are looking good.

:17:39.:17:41.

All I could hear was our kid shouting.

:17:42.:17:44.

They are hoping it will put him and his twin brother

:17:45.:17:45.

on the same bill after summer. In Rugby League Richard Agar has

:17:46.:17:50.

stepped down as the coach His final game

:17:51.:17:53.

in charge saw them lose out to Agar had told

:17:54.:17:58.

the board that he wanted to leave at the end of the season,

:17:59.:18:01.

that loss brought things to a head. He's been replaced by assistant

:18:02.:18:05.

James Webster with immediate effect. And we'll be discussing that

:18:06.:18:08.

and bringing you all the highlights on the

:18:09.:18:10.

Superleague Show tonight at 11:30. On to cricket and Yorkshire have

:18:11.:18:13.

been in action at Northampton They had a great start to

:18:14.:18:16.

their second innings, having been Next tonight, it's the third in

:18:17.:18:22.

our series marking the centenary of The World War One

:18:23.:18:41.

at Home project is being carried out throughout the BBC,

:18:42.:18:46.

working with Imperial War Museums. We're looking

:18:47.:18:48.

at how the war affected people away York Minster has, of course, been

:18:49.:18:51.

an iconic building for centuries. It was feared that it might be

:18:52.:18:55.

a target for German attack So, elaborate plans were put in

:18:56.:18:58.

place to protect its many treasures. This tremendous building is a

:18:59.:19:13.

treasured symbol of history and faith but it is precious and it

:19:14.:19:21.

makes it a target. In 1916, German zeppelins were sent on bombing raids

:19:22.:19:27.

to York and it was in danger. Nothing was more fragile than its

:19:28.:19:34.

priceless glass. There are 128 stained`glass windows in the Minster

:19:35.:19:38.

made up of thousands of pieces of glass. Some of it 800 years old.

:19:39.:19:46.

Nearly all of it was removed. We think 109 windows were taken out.

:19:47.:19:50.

Initially it was thought they might be buried in York but they were put

:19:51.:19:54.

in bombproof shelters that were built for the purpose and put in

:19:55.:19:58.

secret locations, so secret that we still don't know where they were

:19:59.:20:05.

today. The five sisters window is the oldest and holds special

:20:06.:20:09.

significance when remembering World War I. The story goes that a York

:20:10.:20:13.

nurse, Helen Little, who served in Egypt during the war came into the

:20:14.:20:18.

Minster and saw a vision of her dead sisters. The window above them

:20:19.:20:23.

opened to reveal a beautiful garden full of women and Helen started a

:20:24.:20:30.

campaign for a women's Memorial. In nine weeks, women all over the world

:20:31.:20:35.

donated money to rededicate the window and make a memorial to all

:20:36.:20:41.

those that died in active surge `` services during the war. Most of

:20:42.:20:46.

them were nurses. The Minster also holds the book of heroes. It is a

:20:47.:20:51.

memorial to the men and woman of York who died either in active

:20:52.:20:55.

service or as a result of their wounds. There are 1447 names in

:20:56.:21:05.

there. This astonishing document weighs nine stone and is unique

:21:06.:21:10.

because it contains photographs of every casualty. Just seeing page

:21:11.:21:15.

after page of photographs is sobering but the care and

:21:16.:21:19.

craftsmanship taken to remember them is moving. Like the Minster itself,

:21:20.:21:23.

it is a lasting memorial to effort and its cost. There are some

:21:24.:21:32.

incredible series coming out. You can hear more on BBC Radio Sheffield

:21:33.:21:37.

and Leeds all this week. And to see more on the whole BBC

:21:38.:21:39.

project just go to the website. She is quite simply one

:21:40.:21:45.

of our national treasures and on Thursday chooses the

:21:46.:21:48.

Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield for the She has never done anything

:21:49.:21:51.

like this before. And she has had her fair share

:21:52.:21:57.

of ups and downs in recent years. But she's happy and still has the

:21:58.:22:05.

calling towards the Vicar of Dibley. I want to find one man on earth who

:22:06.:22:20.

isn't the spawn of Satan. You can shut it to come egghead. You are all

:22:21.:22:27.

the same. Just a bunch of... You should be lined up and forced fed

:22:28.:22:37.

dog food until you die. You don't look 30 million minutes old. I am.

:22:38.:22:43.

That was the inspiration for your tour. I wanted to do a show about my

:22:44.:22:50.

life and I thought, how long have I been alive? 30 million minutes is

:22:51.:22:55.

about 56 years and that is how old I am. Are you frightened? Yes. Here,

:22:56.:23:04.

we tell it straight. Does it worry you? I am happy to have that

:23:05.:23:09.

completely. It is good to be frightened. Something would be wrong

:23:10.:23:14.

if I wasn't a little bit scared. I have to ask you about your weight

:23:15.:23:19.

and your marriage. Married, yes I am. Weight loss, yes I have. Are you

:23:20.:23:28.

happy as a person? What do you think? There is such an aura coming

:23:29.:23:35.

through you. I've feel as if you are settled. I have been true to myself

:23:36.:23:42.

all the way along and I have been blessed to have a very happy life a

:23:43.:23:48.

lot of the time, with the odd interruption and some sadnesses

:23:49.:23:52.

along the way and some challenges. Hey, who hasn't had that? What is

:23:53.:23:57.

there around the corner because everyone talks about the Vicar of

:23:58.:24:03.

Diddley. My wife talks about your autobiographies. She left out loud

:24:04.:24:06.

but wouldn't tell me what the jokes were. If your wife enjoyed my

:24:07.:24:13.

autobiography, I hope you have bought her tickets to come and see

:24:14.:24:17.

this show. I have more writing around the corner. I will write to

:24:18.:24:23.

more novels. I have the first one panned out. I will be touring the

:24:24.:24:28.

show until the end of the year. I come back to Yorkshire and

:24:29.:24:37.

Bradford, Leeds and York. Will you bring the vicar of Diddley back

:24:38.:24:43.

again? Who knows. I suspect she will be more inner`city. I don't doubt

:24:44.:24:51.

that Richard Curtis will not be on it. Lovely to talk to you and I wish

:24:52.:24:56.

you all the best. Watch the Sheffield audience. They will tell

:24:57.:25:02.

it to you straight. I am happy for that. She was fantastic. Everything

:25:03.:25:13.

I hoped she was. Have you bought your wife tickets? Congratulations

:25:14.:25:28.

to you, you have got media personality of the year. This is the

:25:29.:25:32.

forecast. We have some photographs for you.

:25:33.:25:57.

This spring has been the third warmest on record. Tomorrow, patchy

:25:58.:26:08.

rain especially at first. Some sunny spells developing during the second

:26:09.:26:12.

half of the day. Low pressure is in charge and although there is

:26:13.:26:15.

uncertainty about Wednesday, there is the potential for some heavy rain

:26:16.:26:19.

across eastern areas. We have some sharp showers showing up on the

:26:20.:26:26.

radar picture. It is drifting up into North Yorkshire. There is some

:26:27.:26:34.

lively showers. It is mostly dry but I suspect these showers will trundle

:26:35.:26:37.

eastwards and we could see further patchy rain heading from the West.

:26:38.:26:41.

Lowest temperatures around 12 Celsius. The sun will rise in the

:26:42.:26:50.

morning and your next high water time is at: A cloudy start and there

:26:51.:26:58.

will be some patchy rain in places. That is gradually going to wonder

:26:59.:27:02.

eastwards. The skies will brighten for the morning and the action and

:27:03.:27:06.

looks brighter. There is the risk of the few sharp showers breaking out.

:27:07.:27:09.

I suspect the afternoon is not looking too bad. Top temperatures

:27:10.:27:18.

not looking too bad tomorrow with temperatures around 18 Celsius.

:27:19.:27:24.

There is the potential for some prolonged rain on Wednesday. The

:27:25.:27:28.

fine weather returns on Thursday with the chance of a shower.

:27:29.:27:34.

Where is that award of yours? I have left it in the car. Amy will

:27:35.:27:42.

be back at 10:25pm. We back. Goodbye.

:27:43.:28:04.

..then... ..he landed...

:28:05.:28:11.

..and in a flurry of feathers, they were gone.

:28:12.:28:23.

But that isn't quite the end of the story.

:28:24.:28:25.

Perhaps you'll dream of a great adventure.

:28:26.:28:26.

'I'm going on an adventure.' Wow.

:28:27.:28:38.

That is a long way. Quite a bit of it is on bikes.

:28:39.:28:42.

What are you going to do about your hair?

:28:43.:28:43.

They told me I had good technique, I'm quite happy with that.

:28:44.:28:48.

Is this the most adventurous thing you've ever done? Without a doubt.

:28:49.:28:52.
