Good evening. Welcome to Look North. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Malaysian authorities narrow their search for a backpacker | :00:00. | :00:09.
from West Yorkshire who has been missing for a week. | :00:10. | :00:12.
We have the latest from the island where the hunt continues. | :00:13. | :00:15.
Gearing up with the latest technology. | :00:16. | :00:17.
The body cameras for Yorkshire officers aimed | :00:18. | :00:19.
And were the recognisable tin hats of world | :00:20. | :00:25.
The unsettled weather looks set to continue with quite a bit of rain on | :00:26. | :00:40.
the card for Wednesday. Join me for the five`day forecast! | :00:41. | :00:47.
Malaysian authorities have narrowed their search for a backpacker | :00:48. | :00:50.
from West Yorkshire who has been missing for a week. | :00:51. | :00:57.
Gareth Huntley hasn't been seen since he set off | :00:58. | :01:11.
on his own to visit a waterfall in a jungle on Tioman Island | :01:12. | :01:15.
Colleagues from a turtle conservation project | :01:16. | :01:18.
where he was volunteering raised the alarm when he failed to return. | :01:19. | :01:21.
Rescuers spent the day searching a smaller area | :01:22. | :01:24.
In a moment, we will get the latest from our reporter on the island. | :01:25. | :01:28.
But first Ian White has our top story. | :01:29. | :01:31.
Gareth Huntley has been missing from more than a week. There is still no | :01:32. | :01:35.
sign of an. The 34`year`old was on the Malaysia and Tioman Island | :01:36. | :01:37.
volunteering with a turtle conservation project. He went | :01:38. | :01:39.
trekking alone in the jungle to see a waterfall, but never return. | :01:40. | :01:41.
Yesterday, his mother said she believed her son was still alive and | :01:42. | :01:44.
retraced some of the writ he is thought to have taken. We wanted to | :01:45. | :01:48.
go to the last place that we knew he had been. We wanted to visualise it | :01:49. | :01:53.
and get a feeling for what he had seen, how he might have been | :01:54. | :01:57.
feeling, just to get the bigger picture. The search for Gareth has | :01:58. | :02:04.
gradually been searched up after `` stepped up after the family | :02:05. | :02:11.
criticised the police. He has made it up to the waterfall in good time | :02:12. | :02:18.
and has decided he has time to explore the start of the river. The | :02:19. | :02:27.
pathway works quite defined. Rescuers are working on this theory | :02:28. | :02:32.
and have now reduced the search area. We went up the ethical route. | :02:33. | :02:39.
There were some boulders in place. It was not terribly difficult. | :02:40. | :02:42.
Gareth would have had no problem with that. He is quite experienced | :02:43. | :02:48.
at walking. Low`grade mountain climbing, I would say. Prime | :02:49. | :02:53.
Minister and the Foreign Office have thanked the Malaysian authorities | :02:54. | :02:58.
for their work so far. Family and friends back home in Yorkshire wait | :02:59. | :02:59.
anxiously for news. We caught up with | :03:00. | :03:01.
our correspondent Jennifer Pak at the end of the day's search | :03:02. | :03:03.
and asked her how it was going. Malaysian authorities say they have | :03:04. | :03:20.
a smaller team searching in a area today because they have said | :03:21. | :03:23.
they have found some clues. Now, what clues exactly, | :03:24. | :03:28.
they did not reveal to us. Throughout the day, | :03:29. | :03:30.
we have heard helicopters hovering The biggest challenge the | :03:31. | :03:33.
authorities say they have is the fact that the island is covered in | :03:34. | :03:44.
steep hills and dense jungle, making it extremely difficult to locate him | :03:45. | :03:47.
one`week after he disappeared. The family have accused | :03:48. | :03:50.
the police of being slow to react. Is the feeling now that the police | :03:51. | :03:53.
are taking this more seriously? The family have said that | :03:54. | :03:56.
when they were in the UK they got They were not sure what | :03:57. | :04:00.
Malaysian authorities were doing. Because of where he was staying, | :04:01. | :04:03.
not everyone was registered where Authorities informed | :04:04. | :04:08.
the foreign office, but they were not able to contact the families | :04:09. | :04:10.
directly, which gives them a sense that perhaps the authorities | :04:11. | :04:13.
were not taking it seriously. Contrary to that, authorities | :04:14. | :04:16.
here say they have been actively They had been expanding | :04:17. | :04:19.
the search for the last few days His mother seems to be optimistic | :04:20. | :04:28.
that he will be found safe and well. As the days go by, surely concerns | :04:29. | :04:33.
for his safety must grow? In fact, his mother took | :04:34. | :04:36.
the same path and retraced her son `` son's steps, believed to be his | :04:37. | :04:49.
last steps, before he went missing. She went to the waterfall where he | :04:50. | :04:53.
was supposed to be heading towards. It should have taken him two hours | :04:54. | :04:59.
to get down. She replaced those steps | :05:00. | :05:01.
and said it was difficult, quite emotional, but she needed to do that | :05:02. | :05:05.
to see the frame of mind he was in. They believe he may have got lost | :05:06. | :05:09.
and perhaps was hurt later on. That is why authorities are | :05:10. | :05:13.
still searching for him. They now have a team staying | :05:14. | :05:15.
overnight in the jungle, so that it `` they will start their search at | :05:16. | :05:26.
7:30am local time. 450 body cameras are being issued to | :05:27. | :05:29.
police officers in West Yorkshire as part of a worldwide project | :05:30. | :05:32.
which it's hoped can help restore The year`long experiment is being | :05:33. | :05:35.
carried out with criminologists Police say they hope it will make | :05:36. | :05:39.
their dealings with the public be Our Crime Correspondent has been | :05:40. | :05:43.
given exclusive access to Video cameras and helmet | :05:44. | :05:46.
cameras find the evidence. Now something new for officers | :05:47. | :05:53.
on the street. This PC is ready for his shift | :05:54. | :05:55.
today with his new body camera. You use this sliding | :05:56. | :06:00.
switch to record. I tell all people present that | :06:01. | :06:06.
everything they are saying Once I press stop, | :06:07. | :06:09.
I can view back the footage and take it to the police station | :06:10. | :06:14.
for evidential purposes. I will put this system to | :06:15. | :06:21.
the test and see Everything you're doing | :06:22. | :06:24.
and saying is being recorded. I would like to ask you what | :06:25. | :06:35.
you're doing in Bradford today. Already been recorded | :06:36. | :06:55.
on the body camera, scenes like this This will be a positive | :06:56. | :06:58.
contribution to reaffirming our People will see us being wholly | :06:59. | :07:02.
transparent and accountable. A similar pilot with the Met Police | :07:03. | :07:06.
in London has shown there are Why? Anyone can record anywhere | :07:07. | :07:09.
in a public place. This new project will be analysed | :07:10. | :07:12.
by experts at Cambridge University before any police forces decide | :07:13. | :07:16.
whether to make it permanent. We will be able to tell | :07:17. | :07:18.
whether the cameras would increase public confidence and trust | :07:19. | :07:21.
in police, or they will do what some people fear which is undermine | :07:22. | :07:24.
police regulations. During research, | :07:25. | :07:31.
they will be deployed every time In the future, we will evaluate | :07:32. | :07:37.
whether it is running constantly It is a good step forward for | :07:38. | :07:42.
policing in this region. Police say body cameras should | :07:43. | :07:50.
reassure the public, After the Sheffield half | :07:51. | :07:52.

surrounding Runners have received letters from | :11:17. | :11:17.
the organisers, saying they will be The race in April was cancelled | :11:18. | :11:21.

their money back, but it seems the organisers have had a change of | :11:27. | :11:31.
heart, as James Vincent explains. For the organisers of the Sheffield | :11:32. | :11:37.
half marathon, it was a bad day. Many of the runners did the 13 miles | :11:38. | :11:49.
anyway, despite lack of water. There was no information at | :11:50. | :11:53.
the start about why it was delayed. Everyone just went, | :11:54. | :12:00.
so we went with it. The organisers have been | :12:01. | :12:34.
investigating why there was no Letters sent to runners this week | :12:35. | :12:36.

from charity. It is a choice that has | :12:44. | :12:47.
not impressed runners. We want to know that Sheffield will | :12:48. | :12:49.
have half marathon this year This is treating | :12:50. | :12:58.
people with contempt. This is making a bigger hole | :12:59. | :13:02.
for them. No news on whether the half marathon | :13:03. | :13:04.
will happen again next year. There are other races in the local | :13:05. | :13:07.
area that we can do instead. Sheffield could end up | :13:08. | :13:10.
with no half marathon. A big city | :13:11. | :13:13.
like this needs a good race. The deadline | :13:14. | :13:15.
for refunds is 20th June. Next year's race may depend | :13:16. | :13:17.
on how many refunds are given out. We're joined by the West Yorkshire | :13:18. | :13:20.

up! The big sports news today is that | :13:36. | :13:37.
Sheffield Wednesday Chairman Milan Mandarick seems close to finalising | :13:38. | :13:40.
a deal to sell the club. Hafiz Mammadov, who is currently | :13:41. | :13:43.
the owner of French club RC Lens, is the man behind the attempt to | :13:44. | :13:59.
take`over at Hillsborough. BBC Radio Sheffield broke | :14:00. | :14:01.
the story earlier today and we're joined now by their reporter | :14:02. | :14:04.
Andy Giddings at Hillsborough. What can you tell us about Mammadov | :14:05. | :14:06.
and his interest in the Owls? Well, we can tell you that Hafiz | :14:07. | :14:12.
Mammadov is an extremely successful businessman in Azerbaijan. He deals | :14:13. | :14:20.
in transport and energy. Years a huge football fan. Years been | :14:21. | :14:25.
involved in the game since 2004 when he took over SC Baku who have had | :14:26. | :14:33.
tremendous success. He was then involved in French football. He has | :14:34. | :14:37.
shares in Atletico Madrid, who were recently in the champions league | :14:38. | :14:41.
final. Also with portal, the Portuguese giants. Years worth | :14:42. | :14:50.
around several hundred million pounds. You won't necessarily be a | :14:51. | :14:54.
hands`on chairman should this go through. No bullet the likeable man | :14:55. | :15:04.

thrown at the team. He backs his teams with a decent amount of money. | :15:13. | :15:17.
What will this mean for Milan Mandarick's involvement with the | :15:18. | :15:23.
club? He has not commented yet and neither have the club. This would | :15:24. | :15:27.
bring together a successful tenure for Milan Mandarick for him. In | :15:28. | :15:35.
2010, the club were in dire straits. He was able to secure a deal to get | :15:36. | :15:40.
them moving in the right direction. They were promoted from League one. | :15:41. | :15:46.
They had two years at championship level. Na Li have a platform they | :15:47. | :15:49.
can build potentially under new ownership from Milan Mandarick of | :15:50. | :15:56.

Britain's reigning Tour de France champion Chris Froome was | :16:15. | :16:22.

Grand Depart route, but Sir Bradley Wiggins' hopes of joining him on the | :16:26. | :16:28.

The 2012 winner has not been picked by Team Sky to ride with Froome | :16:33. | :16:37.
in a key warm`up race for the Tour in France this week. | :16:38. | :16:40.
Yorkshire is staging its first ever International Race | :16:41. | :16:43.
The British Grand Prix takes place at the York Sports Village and | :16:44. | :16:48.
as well as walkers from across the world, there's a healthy number | :16:49. | :16:51.
Leeds Metropolitan University is the country's centre | :16:52. | :16:54.
for race walking and it is a sport that needs discipline | :16:55. | :16:58.
Everyone can run a race and just about finish. | :16:59. | :17:14.
If you walk a bad race, you will get disqualified and will not finish. | :17:15. | :17:18.
How fine is the line between walking and running? | :17:19. | :17:20.
A little injury or loss of concentration and will pick up | :17:21. | :17:37.
Tone is part of an ever`growing training group | :17:38. | :17:44.
There is now local talent getting involved. | :17:45. | :17:54.
One night at training, we all decided to have a mess around | :17:55. | :18:00.
It was pure luck that somebody so me and recommended me to | :18:01. | :18:06.
I found this sport and enjoy it twice as much as I did running. | :18:07. | :18:13.
You have to be an athlete to compete. | :18:14. | :18:17.
I am running at a reasonable pace just to keep up with you. | :18:18. | :18:22.
Probably just under five minutes per kilometres. | :18:23. | :18:27.
The rulebook says always have one foot on the ground | :18:28. | :18:39.
and always have a straight leg as it lands, so my knee is not bent | :18:40. | :18:44.
Tom already has the qualifying time for the championships in August, | :18:45. | :18:54.
but he needs to ensure one of the top two race times to ensure | :18:55. | :18:58.
That is extraordinary. I like power walking, but I can't go at that | :18:59. | :19:15.
speed. I would like to see that! It is really good for you. | :19:16. | :19:19.
In just over a week's time our next guest will be swapping | :19:20. | :19:23.
the streets of South Yorkshire for the football grounds of Brazil. | :19:24. | :19:27.
Chief Superintendent Rachel Barber has been selected to travel to | :19:28. | :19:29.
the World Cup to help police England football supporters. | :19:30. | :19:32.
And her tour will last as long as England remains | :19:33. | :19:34.
in the competition, so she won't be hoping for a quick exit. | :19:35. | :19:40.
Our role is to work with the Brazilian police to basically | :19:41. | :19:46.
translate our fans behaviour and the likely impact of policing tactics on | :19:47. | :19:54.
our fans. We hear less about hooliganism than in the 1970s. Are | :19:55. | :20:00.
we likely to have any problems? Were not expecting any real problems. | :20:01. | :20:04.
Over the last couple of tournaments, we have seen no issues with our | :20:05. | :20:08.
supporters. This is about making sure our fans don't get in trouble | :20:09. | :20:12.
by being in the wrong place and having too much to drink. Also | :20:13. | :20:17.
cultural differences. What will the biggest challenges be? Mainly the | :20:18. | :20:27.
stigma attached to our supporters is not attached in the minds of the | :20:28. | :20:32.
Brazilian police. The majority of people who are going will be there | :20:33. | :20:37.
to enjoy some good football. The players are already in training. | :20:38. | :20:43.
They are struggling with the heat. We will be in uniform for part of | :20:44. | :20:48.
it. We have to grin and bear. It will be like the streets of in the | :20:49. | :20:55.
summer. When we spoke earlier, you said the players were a bit soft! | :20:56. | :21:00.
Don't quote me on that! Unfortunately, are fortunately, we | :21:01. | :21:05.
do not get to see any of the action. We are there to work with the | :21:06. | :21:11.
Brazilian police. Any police officer who is a football fan does not want | :21:12. | :21:18.
to do this mission. I don't dislike football, but it is not my first | :21:19. | :21:23.
choice. I will be concentrating on the job. Presumably fans will see | :21:24. | :21:32.
you as a point of liaison? It is reassuring? Yes, it is a big | :21:33. | :21:36.
country. There has been a lot of things in the media about high crime | :21:37. | :21:42.
rates. We are there to provide reassurance and works with our | :21:43. | :21:46.
colleagues in the British consulate and make sure the messages get out | :21:47. | :21:50.
so that supporters know they have someone to speak to if they have | :21:51. | :21:55.
trouble or need to speak to someone. I am sure the atmosphere out there | :21:56. | :22:01.
will be amazing. Enjoy your time. I hope that I won't see you too soon! | :22:02. | :22:06.
Now for the latest in our series marking the centenary of | :22:07. | :22:08.
The World War One at Home project is being carried out | :22:09. | :22:13.
throughout the BBC, working with Imperial War Museums. | :22:14. | :22:16.
We are looking at how the war affected people away | :22:17. | :22:18.
The original design of the helmet is something | :22:19. | :22:26.
of a classic and is usually credited to the entrepreneur John Brodie. | :22:27. | :22:29.
But now there are new claims that a businessman from Halifax might | :22:30. | :22:32.
Tommies tin hats became an essential item for trips during both | :22:33. | :23:02.
Helping many to avoid lethal headwinds. `` wounds. | :23:03. | :23:12.
They were however actually made from steel. | :23:13. | :23:14.
By the 1940s, they were not just being worn in battle. | :23:15. | :23:22.
These steel hats are quite attractive. | :23:23. | :23:24.
Credit for the iconic design, often called a broadly helmet, | :23:25. | :23:27.
was given to the entrepreneur John Leopold Brodie who held patents | :23:28. | :23:30.
At the famous headwear could have a Yorkshire connection, | :23:31. | :23:34.
in the form of businessman Alfred Bates who was based in Halifax. | :23:35. | :23:37.
This is where we think he developed the concept. | :23:38. | :23:40.
If you put it into Google, you always come up with Brodie. It looks | :23:41. | :23:44.
He was responsible for the lining inside it, not the sheep | :23:45. | :23:49.
`` shape, and the manic factoring process. | :23:50. | :23:51.
We think Alfred Bates was the concept and then Brodie went | :23:52. | :24:01.
Alfred Bates may not have got the glory, | :24:02. | :24:05.
It would seem that from some of the lamps that he designed, | :24:06. | :24:12.
the shape of the lid of these lamps bears some resemblance to the | :24:13. | :24:20.
After he died in 1929, a number of newspapers in the UK | :24:21. | :24:25.
clearly pointed him as the designer of the First World War tin helmet. | :24:26. | :24:30.
There is no disputing the number of lives saved by this iconic | :24:31. | :24:44.
headwear, but the campaign to prove it was a Yorkshire design goes on. | :24:45. | :25:09.

south and west Yorkshire. The rain will wobble Northwest words and sit | :26:48. | :26:56.
across us for much of the day. Some outbreaks of persistent rain. Missed | :26:57. | :27:00.
and will cloud over the hills. We have been used to temperatures | :27:01. | :27:05.
around 19 degrees, so our big drop off. Cool tomorrow with just 12 | :27:06. | :27:15.
degrees in Skipton. A dreary day to come tomorrow. The rain last into | :27:16. | :27:19.
