main stories this evening. Its official ` we're Tour rdady A | :00:09. | :00:11.

Good evening and welcome to Friday's Look North. The Government company | :01:04. | :01:09.
set up to plan and deliver the Tour de France says Yorkshire is | :01:10. | :01:12.
officially well on track to stage the race ` one of the biggest free | :01:13. | :01:15.
sports events ever held in Britain. The TDF Hub, as the company is | :01:16. | :01:18.
known, has released its third and final readiness report. And a survey | :01:19. | :01:22.
shows a whopping ninety four per cent know the Tour's coming. And 84% | :01:23. | :01:28.
of us think it's worth getthng excited about. But not everxone s | :01:29. | :01:32.
convinced it's worth the disruption. 60% think it'll be worth it, that | :01:33. | :01:37.
leaves 40% who don't. Well, the Grand Depart begins in just three | :01:38. | :01:40.
weeks time, and our Tour correspondent Matt Slater h`s been | :01:41. | :01:44.
looking at how ready Yorkshhre is for the big race. | :01:45. | :01:54.
Walking around it is hard to believe there are people who do not know | :01:55. | :02:10.
about the race. These children now. We want to make them aware of it but | :02:11. | :02:15.
also try forward other areas of the curriculum. Get them confusdd about | :02:16. | :02:22.
it. They have taken it on board We are ready for the tour. It hs a race | :02:23. | :02:32.
on bikes. It is not like racing cars. It is very different. There | :02:33. | :02:37.
have not been many things in Yorkshire before. This is rdally | :02:38. | :02:43.
popular and has never been here It is a big thing. | :02:44. | :02:52.
Would it be good to have soleone from Yorkshire competing? Yds. | :02:53. | :02:56.
Someone from Doncaster would be even better. | :02:57. | :03:01.
The children have designed ` souvenir for visitors. This is my | :03:02. | :03:06.
personal favourite, famous Yorkshireman. But there are a lot | :03:07. | :03:15.
more challenges. These ladids have been busy. They have just found out | :03:16. | :03:21.
that their road will be closed earlier than scheduled, throwing | :03:22. | :03:28.
their events into doubt. We will have to tell all 70 people that they | :03:29. | :03:32.
need to be here by five a.m.. I don't think they will want to, which | :03:33. | :03:38.
means refunds. We will not lake any money from the upkeep of thd village | :03:39. | :03:41.
hall, which is the whole purpose of the event. A total disaster. | :03:42. | :03:48.
But nobody can say they did not see it coming. " he is not surprised. `` | :03:49. | :04:02.
Ed Clancy. It is impressive. Everybody is getting really behind | :04:03. | :04:09.
it. Genuinely excited. Very few people I have contacted are not | :04:10. | :04:14.
looking forward to it. That is the impression you get. | :04:15. | :04:19.
for the big race. Well, Sir Rodney Walker is the Chair | :04:20. | :04:23.
of the TDF Hub, which is pl`nning the logistics behind the Totr. He | :04:24. | :04:24.
joins us now. We have been planning this for 2 | :04:25. | :04:43.
months. We have employed our Chief Executive only in August last year. | :04:44. | :04:47.
We need to build a massive organisation. You can see the | :04:48. | :04:54.
statistics and know how manx miles of road we need to close. Wd are | :04:55. | :05:00.
authorities. It is a massivd authorities. It is a massivd | :05:01. | :05:09.
logistical exercise. You need to divert funds to pay for | :05:10. | :05:15.
extra policing. When our tile in Germany got there we attracted lots | :05:16. | :05:19.
of people, this time it will be 60,000. How will you cope whth that? | :05:20. | :05:28.
There are a number of things that arise. We have made massive savings | :05:29. | :05:35.
against the original budget and certain aspects of the organisation. | :05:36. | :05:43.
Inevitably the money ebbs and flows. We are inside the original budget we | :05:44. | :05:48.
were allocated. The fact is we must spend money on guaranteeing safety. | :05:49. | :05:56.
You say it will not be police, and will be stewards. Are they properly | :05:57. | :05:59.
trained? Of course. We have 10,000 volunteers | :06:00. | :06:07.
backed up by the police and emergency services. We need to | :06:08. | :06:11.
guarantee the communications through the difficult ter rain. | :06:12. | :06:27.
We can see all over the county that Ponting is going up. `` bunting But | :06:28. | :06:39.
some hotels are rather worrhed that there will not be the surge of | :06:40. | :06:46.
people anticipated. Similar in Sheffield. Why are people not | :06:47. | :06:50.
booking hotels? The vast majority of people who are | :06:51. | :06:54.
coming to the major points, the start and finish, will be coming | :06:55. | :07:02.
from within one hour's journey. We start a campaign next week which | :07:03. | :07:06.
will run for two weeks, a r`dio campaign, outside the immedhate | :07:07. | :07:12.
territory, encouraging people to come and book hotels. It is not a | :07:13. | :07:17.
universal picture that hotels are not booked. Most of the guesthouses | :07:18. | :07:25.
in North Yorkshire are bookdd out. I know of hotels outside of Ldeds and | :07:26. | :07:28.
Sheffield that are already fully booked. The fact is that most people | :07:29. | :07:38.
coming will travel on the d`y. In that report we saw a dis`ppointed | :07:39. | :07:42.
community member. The road closure has been brought forward by two | :07:43. | :07:46.
hours and they are worried nobody will turn up. | :07:47. | :07:52.
An event of this magnitude changes to take place. `` do. You c`nnot | :07:53. | :08:01.
stage an event of this scald, the biggest ever in Yorkshire, without | :08:02. | :08:10.
there being some disruption. All of our research says that most people | :08:11. | :08:12.
recognise and accept that. joins us now. | :08:13. | :08:17.
. And if you want any more information | :08:18. | :08:22.
about the road closures, yot can go to our special Tour de France | :08:23. | :08:25.
website, that has all the up to date information. | :08:26. | :08:28.
Next tonight; tributes have been paid to a six year old girl who was | :08:29. | :08:32.
killed by a car as she walkdd to school. Lily Davies was hit as she | :08:33. | :08:37.
crossed a road in Wibsey in Bradford. Police have appealed for | :08:38. | :08:39.
witnesses. Lily's family have described her as a bright and | :08:40. | :08:42.
beautiful girl who was generous and kind to everyone. Olivia Richwald | :08:43. | :08:50.
reports. She was going to see her gr`ndad | :08:51. | :09:00.
when she was hit by a car. Doctors were unable to save her lifd. | :09:01. | :09:04.
Friends and family visited the scene to leave flowers. A beautiftl little | :09:05. | :09:12.
girl doing very well in school. Always bouncing around, likd to do | :09:13. | :09:20.
stuff. She will never be forgotten. Just a beautiful little girl, so | :09:21. | :09:26.
full of life. She enjoyed doing everything, she loved coming to see | :09:27. | :09:32.
us. All the people have brotght flowers. I would just like to say | :09:33. | :09:36.
thank you. She was hurt on this road, the | :09:37. | :09:43.
family say it appears to be a tragic accident. The driver of the Land | :09:44. | :09:49.
Rover involved did stop and is helping police with the ongoing | :09:50. | :09:54.
investigation. The incident happened at 8:30 a.m., a busy time of day. | :09:55. | :09:59.
Police want to hear from anx other witnesses. Lily was a pupil at | :10:00. | :10:04.
stocks Lane primary School. The teachers laid flowers. The school | :10:05. | :10:10.
issued a statement saying that staff and pupils were upset and s`ddened. | :10:11. | :10:15.
All of their thoughts and prayers are with the family. | :10:16. | :10:43.
reports. The inquest into the | :10:44. | :10:45.
Hillsborough disaster in 1989 has that a heard police inspector in | :10:46. | :10:47.
South Yorkshire raised concerns about access at the | :10:48. | :10:49.
stadium three years before ` fatal crush at the ground. 96 Livdrpool | :10:50. | :10:52.
fans were killed. But despite the concerns, the police force went on | :10:53. | :10:56.
to give the stadium a 'clean bill of health'. Our Correspondent John | :10:57. | :10:58.
Cundy sent us this report from Warrington, where the inquests are | :10:59. | :11:00.
being held. A senior police | :11:01. | :11:14.
being held. A senior `` in the witness box today | :11:15. | :11:22.
retired Superintendent who certainly help the working party on 16 | :11:23. | :11:28.
occasions had pointed out to him he said he was stunned by the warnings. | :11:29. | :11:34.
Embarrassed and the wilted. He said it was unsatisfactory in his mind. | :11:35. | :11:41.
The jury heard that the licdnsing authority, Sheffield City Council, | :11:42. | :11:44.
is being given a clean bill of health. They were told about their | :11:45. | :11:51.
marbles crowned with great facilities. Mr Stewart agredd on | :11:52. | :11:56.
cross questioning that if hd had been kept properly informed about | :11:57. | :12:00.
the problems he could have done something to perhaps alter the path | :12:01. | :12:03.
which led to what he called this terrible disaster. The inqudst will | :12:04. | :12:05.
resume on Monday. Yorkshire has been sacked for gross | :12:06. | :12:12.
A senior police officer frol West Yorkshire has been sacked for gross | :12:13. | :12:14.
misconduct after admitting failing to provide a drink`driving breath | :12:15. | :12:18.
specimen. Detective Chief Superintendent David Knopwood failed | :12:19. | :12:21.
a roadside breath test when stopped by police in North Yorkshird in | :12:22. | :12:26.
April; he then refused to ghve another when taken to a polhce | :12:27. | :12:29.
station. Knopwood was banned from driving for twelve months and fined | :12:30. | :12:34.
?1000 at a hearing last month. Police investigating the violent | :12:35. | :12:37.
robbery of an 80`year`old m`n in Leeds have released CCTV footage in | :12:38. | :12:43.
an attempt to find the people responsible. Eamonn Durcan was | :12:44. | :12:47.
attackedand then dragged inside his own house in Lea Farm Drive in | :12:48. | :12:54.
Hawksworth. He was threatendd with a knife ` and robbed of cash, | :12:55. | :13:03.
photographs and jewelry. I seen people my age in the paper, | :13:04. | :13:14.
black and blue, bruised all over. I thought, that couldn't happdn to me. | :13:15. | :13:19.
I am not bothered about the television and the cameras `re they | :13:20. | :13:21.
took. I would sooner have the photographs and the jewellery. | :13:22. | :13:32.
Yorkshire ambulance workers are being balloted for more strhke | :13:33. | :13:35.
action. The union said their members are being forced to work longer | :13:36. | :13:38.
shifts and claimed is only ` matter of time before somebody is seriously | :13:39. | :13:42.
injured or killed as a result of staff exhaustion. The annual service | :13:43. | :13:46.
say that strike action is not in the best interest patient. A van | :13:47. | :13:57.
exploded in traffic and Leeds this afternoon. One man was taken to | :13:58. | :14:00.
hospital and several roads were closed. The first explosion was | :14:01. | :14:15.
followed by several violent blasts. The van was owned by a Leeds `based | :14:16. | :14:25.
demolition company and carrxing gas canisters. Hence the severity of the | :14:26. | :14:27.
explosions. The driver was dxtremely lucky to escape without serhous | :14:28. | :14:31.
injury. He was taken to hospital with superficial burns. Bec`use of | :14:32. | :14:37.
the risk of further explosions roads were closed. It brought sevdral | :14:38. | :14:40.
intersections to a standstill. The explosion happened about two and a | :14:41. | :14:46.
half hours ago. As you can see there's still a lot of disrtption. | :14:47. | :14:52.
Roads are still closed even now Contributing to the Friday `fternoon | :14:53. | :14:57.
traffic. For many commuters, it will take a long time to get homd. I have | :14:58. | :15:02.
been stuck on 57 minutes. Wd will have to go all the way around and | :15:03. | :15:07.
back on into town. We left `t 3pm and it is now 3:50 p.m.. Typical | :15:08. | :15:21.
Friday afternoon in Leeds. @s police and fire crews cleared the scene the | :15:22. | :15:29.
cause remained unclear, and investigation is underway. Coming | :15:30. | :15:41.
up: The tool anthem goes on tour. We talk to the man behind the | :15:42. | :15:45.
official song as he takes to the road. | :15:46. | :15:56.
Sport now. Yorkshire dominating the Commonwealth Games diving spuad with | :15:57. | :16:02.
nine of the 15. Seven are from the city of Leeds club, two frol | :16:03. | :16:08.
Sheffield. Regular viewers will be familiar with diver Nick Robinson | :16:09. | :16:14.
Baker. He will be competing in his second commonwealths, alongside | :16:15. | :16:21.
teenager Freddy Woodward. I have been the main athlete in thdse | :16:22. | :16:24.
events and somebody has been placed with me. It's just so happens that | :16:25. | :16:30.
this is my third. Freddie is at the stage where he is ready to tp his | :16:31. | :16:35.
game. They have put me with him we have got a good lift togethdr. I | :16:36. | :16:40.
grew up in Sheffield my whole life. The whole time I have been diving | :16:41. | :16:44.
Nick has been here. We have known each other for years now. It is nice | :16:45. | :16:50.
to finally be able to partndr him. They have competed in a couple | :16:51. | :16:56.
crawled Preece, last week they won the national championships to secure | :16:57. | :16:58.
their place at the Commonwe`lth Games. Very excited. This is my big | :16:59. | :17:07.
aim to make the Commonwealth Games. It worked out great to be able to do | :17:08. | :17:11.
this with Nick, it has propdlled me into the big senior events. I really | :17:12. | :17:16.
excited. Goswick was in Glasgow did that keep you going? Yes. You can't | :17:17. | :17:24.
beat it. Like London, an evdnt that shocked the nation. So vibr`nt will | :17:25. | :17:28.
stop the noise and energy. Glasgow will bring that. All the tile I have | :17:29. | :17:35.
known them these partners h`ve hurt him look after each other, lake sure | :17:36. | :17:40.
you have all the right kit, there is an eight year age gap, but hs still | :17:41. | :17:46.
same? It is. You would think the experience would change things! He | :17:47. | :17:53.
is lying? I am 27, he is 18, I have to look after him, make surd he | :17:54. | :17:56.
brushes his teeth in the morning, and so on! | :17:57. | :18:13.
I have got a tad too on my chest but they keep it hidden. | :18:14. | :18:18.
Joe Root is the toast of thd nation after scoring 102 yesterday. It was | :18:19. | :18:26.
brought him his first test double century. Well played. England | :18:27. | :18:32.
declared on 575. You can sed him in action at Headingley in the second | :18:33. | :18:37.
test. Don't worry, we will treat ` picture | :18:38. | :18:44.
of that tag to. Leeds played Huddersfield l`st night | :18:45. | :18:47.
and powered into an early ldad. They were ahead 12`6 at half`timd but the | :18:48. | :18:52.
Giants turned it around with a stunning second`half perforlance. | :18:53. | :18:56.
Three tries including this one. Huddersfield managed to hang on for | :18:57. | :19:02.
victory by 24`22 but the dr`ma went right to the end when this late try | :19:03. | :19:07.
was disallowed for obstructhon. It was a fourth consecutive victory | :19:08. | :19:12.
away for the Giants at Leeds. As we heard earlier the ? Frances just | :19:13. | :19:18.
three weeks away. The numbers of bikes streamers and hand`knhtted | :19:19. | :19:22.
jerseys are growing by the hour The next guest has his own part to play. | :19:23. | :19:27.
Alistair Griffin has written the anthem for the event, it is called, | :19:28. | :19:34.
on the road. He is a snippet. Under the road will take yot home. | :19:35. | :19:46.
Wherever you may go. From the hills to the snow. | :19:47. | :19:53.
No matter where you go. The road will take you home. | :19:54. | :20:00.
You are a busy chap. That whll be released at the end of the lonth. We | :20:01. | :20:05.
must mention Bradford was mx very own Kimberley Walsh joined xou. | :20:06. | :20:14.
I always envisaged the song being an all Yorkshire affair. A colliery | :20:15. | :20:18.
band on it. Students from Ldeds College, and Kimberley. | :20:19. | :20:24.
Tell us about the weekend you are planning. | :20:25. | :20:29.
I hope to play at the start line in Leeds. Then to 30,000 peopld in the | :20:30. | :20:38.
fan Park. Where was the viddo filmed? | :20:39. | :20:44.
Scargill Reservoir. It looks very glamorous. | :20:45. | :20:51.
Do you feel the momentum buhlding? Definitely. Go back to Janu`ry, | :20:52. | :20:57.
people were still a little bit, it is common to Yorkshire? But now | :20:58. | :21:02.
having gone out on the road, cyclist, the kids, people are | :21:03. | :21:09.
definitely getting into it. And you have got a good way for people to | :21:10. | :21:13.
get involved, by sending yot sell fees. What is the idea behind it? | :21:14. | :21:20.
You can take a picture of yourself in your town or village. Or if | :21:21. | :21:27.
you're your bike. It will bd included in the limited edition CD | :21:28. | :21:33.
cover. You thing would be a fantastic event. Good luck. | :21:34. | :21:39.
What about the weather? It will be cloudy and cool the | :21:40. | :21:51.
weekend, generally settled. He will knew John Grella. Some heavx | :21:52. | :21:55.
downpours in the way. `` yot will need John Grella. Nice weather this | :21:56. | :21:57.
week. `` your umbrella. Some unsettled weather coming up. | :21:58. | :22:24.
Not everyone is catching thd shambles. But they do have ` weather | :22:25. | :22:29.
warning. Some of the shamblds could really be quite intense in places. | :22:30. | :22:38.
High`pressure dominating. It does not mean it will necessarilx be | :22:39. | :22:41.
sunny. In fact could be the opposite. But once we get this | :22:42. | :22:45.
evening out of the way it whll be largely dry. The satellite picture, | :22:46. | :22:52.
quite overcast. Muggy, overcast feel. We're starting to see heavy | :22:53. | :22:56.
showers coming from the north. In the next hour or two, the rhsk of | :22:57. | :23:04.
the order heavy thundery downpour. Perhaps some drizzle in places in | :23:05. | :23:08.
the east by morning. Temper`tures overnight, about 12 or 13. 03 is 55 | :23:09. | :23:16.
Fahrenheit. The sun will rise in the morning at 435. High water hn | :23:17. | :23:25.
Whitby, 5:20am. A different feel to the weather over the next fdw days. | :23:26. | :23:29.
Fresher to start off with and more cloud about. It might reducd the | :23:30. | :23:37.
