The Labour leader Ed Miliband has given what he calls 'an absolute

:00:09.:00:10.

pledge for truth and justicd' for miners arrested

:00:11.:00:13.

Nearly 100 mine rs were charged with rioting

:00:14.:00:18.

following violent clashes whth police at the plant near Rotherham.

:00:19.:00:21.

Two years after the BBC revdaled police statements had been

:00:22.:00:24.

manipulated, no independent investigation has been carrhed out.

:00:25.:00:27.

Here's our political editor Len Tingle.

:00:28.:00:31.

Thirty years to the day, thousands of striking miners and police were

:00:32.:00:34.

It was close to what was thdn the Orgreave coking plant

:00:35.:00:40.

Dozens of arrests were made but some officers on duty at the timd have

:00:41.:00:45.

told the BBC they were ordered to make changes to their statelents

:00:46.:00:49.

in order to ensure convictions at later court hearings.

:00:50.:00:53.

Never before or since, whilst I was a police officer, have I evdr been

:00:54.:00:57.

involved where, effectively, chunks of a statement were dictated.

:00:58.:01:01.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has been looking at that

:01:02.:01:04.

Labour Leader Ed Miliband told Look North he now wants

:01:05.:01:10.

What I want is proper truth, proper justice for what happened

:01:11.:01:16.

at Orgreave and we?re deterlined to make it happen.

:01:17.:01:20.

There are those that would say that's a bit

:01:21.:01:22.

That you've really got to bd more positive in terms

:01:23.:01:26.

of what you would order shotld you come to power as Prime Minister

:01:27.:01:29.

Well, as I say, we are going to wait for what tie IPCC comes up with but

:01:30.:01:33.

I'm making a very clear point on this, that both

:01:34.:01:37.

in opposition ` and we're going to have a vote on this in the House

:01:38.:01:41.

of Commons ` and in governmdnt, my absolute pledge is we will get

:01:42.:01:44.

We were very disappointed whth the lack of seriousness

:01:45.:01:48.

and progress in the first ydar but substantial forces have come

:01:49.:01:51.

on board with the campaign, with the NUM, and applied pressure.

:01:52.:01:55.

As you know, we've had masshve publicity, especially leading

:01:56.:01:58.

And I know that the IPCC have been mindful of that iconic date as well.

:01:59.:02:06.

The coking plant is long gone, the site reclaimed, but the memories

:02:07.:02:09.

and the controversy are going to be as easy to bulldoze away.

:02:10.:02:19.

Lent is with us now. Some movement had hardly an earthquake. 30 years

:02:20.:02:32.

ago 90 miners were charged with writing. 80 months ago a BBC

:02:33.:02:38.

investigation found police officers who were ordered to change their

:02:39.:02:41.

statements and yet investig`tors from the watchdog are still deciding

:02:42.:02:51.

whether there is enough investigation to start anew

:02:52.:02:58.

investigate. There will be ` debate in Parliament calling for an

:02:59.:03:01.

investigation. After that, Dd Miliband has pledged he will keep

:03:02.:03:06.

fighting until some form of investigation is ordered.

:03:07.:03:16.

Also tonight, Look North has learnt that millions of pounds havd been

:03:17.:03:19.

cut from children's services across Yorkshire,

:03:20.:03:21.

with Rotherham Council the latest to target Sure Start centres.

:03:22.:03:23.

Today it decided to close 10 out of its 22 centres, which offer help

:03:24.:03:28.

Sure Start budgets across Yorkshire have been cut by ?7.5 million.

:03:29.:03:35.

These range from just 0.2% in Kirklees to 13% in North

:03:36.:03:40.

These families have just fotnd out their children's centre

:03:41.:03:51.

Cortonwood in the Brampton area is one

:03:52.:03:57.

of ten Sure Start centres Rotherham council is shutting to save money.

:03:58.:04:02.

There's nowhere else in this community for everybody elsd to go.

:04:03.:04:11.

We?ve got no other facilities to use.

:04:12.:04:12.

This used to be Sure Start nursery in Sheffield.

:04:13.:04:15.

Set up for families in the Sharrow area,

:04:16.:04:17.

it was mostly funded by the NHS but it became another victim of cuts.

:04:18.:04:22.

I've used this centre, now, for nearly ten years.

:04:23.:04:26.

As a single parent I'm not getting as much support as H did.

:04:27.:04:30.

Figure seen by Look North show the council here has reduced thd amount

:04:31.:04:33.

it spends on Sure Start centres by ?0.5 million in the last five years.

:04:34.:04:40.

Sure Start funding used to be ring`fenced, meaning budgets were

:04:41.:04:43.

protected, but that's no longer the case and our local councils are

:04:44.:04:47.

having to make huge savings because of government cuts.

:04:48.:04:52.

Using the Freedom of Information Act, we've discovered

:04:53.:04:54.

that across Yorkshire as a whole, councils have reduced

:04:55.:04:57.

the amount they spend on Sure Start by more than ?7.5 million.

:04:58.:05:02.

Bradford, Doncaster and North Yorkshire have also said thdy plan

:05:03.:05:05.

Rotherham Council says it's being forced into closing centres because

:05:06.:05:15.

the Government had reduced the amount of money local counchls get.

:05:16.:05:19.

Sheffield council says 17 "centre areas" remain serving the

:05:20.:05:22.

It looks like all seven of Doncaster Council's remaining care holes

:05:23.:05:28.

Plans to hand services to the private sector have been

:05:29.:05:33.

recommended for approval, s`ving the council nearly ?2 million.

:05:34.:05:36.

The council says standards of care shouldn't be affectdd.

:05:37.:05:40.

A man, whose bungalow was blown up in a huge gas explosion at Tingley,

:05:41.:05:44.

Neighbours reported hearing a big bang and seeing flames ten feet

:05:45.:05:49.

Richard Dickenson, who was led to safety by firemen,

:05:50.:05:55.

Leeds City Council has unvehled the city's first large scald park

:05:56.:06:00.

The 800`space car park on Elland Road opens

:06:01.:06:05.

It's been fast tracked in thme for the Tour de France Grand Depart

:06:06.:06:10.

Now the prospects for the wdather. Is the good weather going to

:06:11.:06:34.

continue? High pressure rem`ins in charge but a lot of dry unsdttled

:06:35.:06:37.

weather potentially through next week. Define out there at the

:06:38.:06:48.

moment. By the end of the nhght we might see the effect of a vdry weak

:06:49.:06:52.

weather front bringing one or two spots of light rain. Temper`tures

:06:53.:07:00.

will be back to 13 or 14 Celsius. A little bit of dampness around but we

:07:01.:07:05.

are once again going to see improvement. By the afternoon there

:07:06.:07:10.

should be some good spells of sunshine developing. It's not going

:07:11.:07:14.

to be quite as warm as it w`s today will stop along the coast of 15 or

:07:15.:07:23.

16 Celsius. Inland 19 Celsits. Through Friday and the weekdnd, a

:07:24.:07:28.

lot of dry and unsettled we`ther but some decent spells of sunshhne. Here

:07:29.:07:30.

is the summary. Celsius. The outlook for the weekend

:07:31.:07:33.

is looking pretty good. If you have outdoor plans, plenty of

:07:34.:07:47.

fine weather, warm nest the south. Is today, warm nest the

:07:48.:07:48.
