The Labour leader Ed Miliband today gave what he called 'an absolute

pledge for truth and justicd' for miners arrested

during the most violent clash of the miners strike three decades ago 30

years ago today, police and miners fought each other

We'll hear from Mr Miliband shortl, but first a brief reminder

of the events of 18th June 0984 from a miner and a policeman.

It was a beautiful day but there was a real heavy aware that somdthing

was going to happen. Things started changing as though there was

something in the air. I've never seen so many polhce

officers and protesters. Thhs was their livelihood. I believe that

somebody should be brought to book for what they have done. It wrong.

Well, in 2012, after we revealed that officers were

told what to write in their statements, South Yorkshire Police

referred itself to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

19 months later, they're sthll considering the evidence.

Now, in an exclusive intervhew with our political editor Len Tingle the

man who this time next year might be Prime Minister, Labour leaddr

Ed Miliband, has joined campaigners calling for a full inquiry.

What would you consider to be a proper investigation, a public

enquiry? It's 18 months since the IP CC said they risk of the

investigation, we need a proper investigation will stop we `re

urging them to get on with that process and then we need to move

forward from there. What I want to see is the truth to come out so

there can be proper justice for those who were there on that day and

to fool that the truth hasn't `` who feel that the hasn't come ott. Will

you go forward and insist that there is a proper enquiry? I think we can

debate the proper form of it and that's something we should do. What

I want to see, the most important thing, is the IP CC to get on with

their scoping investigation and see what they conclude. They max well

conclude they are going to do an investigation. I think the lost

important thing is to get the process underway. We can't be sure

what the next move forward hs going to be. I want proper truth `nd

proper justice for what happened and proper justice for what happened and

we are determined to make it happen. There are those that would say that

is a wishy`washy answer. We are going to wait to see what comes up,

but I am making a very clear promise that those in opposition, mx

absolute pledge is we will find justice in this matter and will do

whatever is necessary. Ed has a local constituency that

would have minors in the past. He understands the issues and the

injustice. I believe him whdn he makes those announcements btt I can

understand why others are hdsitant in accepting it at face valte. In

the past we have been promised all sorts of things and they've never

come to fruition Millions of pounds has been cut

from children's services across Yorkshire, with Rothdrham

Council becoming the latest to Today it decided to close 10 out

of 22 of its Sure Start centres which offer help

and childcare support to falilies. In the past five years, ?7.4 million

has been taken from Sure St`rt These range from just 0.2%

in Kirklees to 13% in North This used to be a Sure Start

nursery. Serving families

in the Sharrow area of Sheffield, But it became another victil of

Sure Start cuts. Sheffield Council says therd were 36

centres, there are now 17 cdntre areas instead serving the whole

of the city. there's nothing else in the area.

There are no libraries in the area. There is no SportsCenter. This is

it. They have not thought about the people who live here. I don't drive

so there's nowhere else to go. We have no other facilities to use

This used to be a Sure Start nursery in Sheffield. It was mostly funded

by the NHS. It soon became ` victim of cuts. Sheffield Council has told

us there were 36 centres, now there are 17 centre areas instead, selling

the whole of the city. Figures seen by us show the council has reduced

the amount spent on centres by half ?1 million in the last five

I've used this centre for the last ten years. As a single parent, I am

not getting as much support as I did. Sure Start funding used to be

ring fenced meaning budget were protected but that is no longer the

case. Our local councils ard having to make huge savings becausd of

government cuts. Before the last general election in 2010, D`vid

Cameron said Sure Start centres would be a big part of the future.

We know how much families rdly on tax credits, Sure Start and the

minimum wage. We will keep these things and where possible ilprove

them to help family to help families who need them most.

Using the Freedom of inform`tion act we have found that councils have

reduced the amount they are spending by more than ?7.5 million.

An average, three centres are closing each week across thd

country. A heartfelt plea

has admitted arson. Richard Dickenson will be

sentenced next month. Neighbours reported hearing a big

bang and seeing flames 10 fdet high lapping the roof of the bungalow

in the incident on 28th May. Richard Dickenson was led

to safety by firemen. He's been remanded

in custody pending sentence. Leeds City Council have unvdiled

the city's first large scald park The 800 space car park on

Cycle sales have increased since around mid`2000. Not only ever

An artist from North Yorkshhre who's been given the title

of the official artist of the Tour de France Grand Depart has been

showing off his unique painting depicting the big event.

Alister Colley from Pately Bridge near Harrogate spent months

researching the event and h`s captured Yorkshire's beautiful

Hidden away in picturesque Pateley Bridge is the gallery that

is home to the official arthst of this year's Grand Depart.

Alister Colley has been chosen to commemorate Yorkshire's historic

sporting occasion with an original painting and 2014 special prints.

The opportunity of the Grand Depart being hosted again is Yorkshire is

It's a once`in`a`lifetime opporttnity.

In that sense, aestheticallx I hope it's pleasing to look at,

but it's also, you could argue, a historical document of thd event.
