We have an exclusive interview with Ed Miliband. | :00:00. | :00:27.
We'll also hear from miners and police officers. | :00:28. | :00:32.
Millions of pounds has been cut from childrens' services. | :00:33. | :00:35.
Today, Rotherham council decided to close nearly half of its centres. | :00:36. | :00:41.
And we look at the work which has gone into creating | :00:42. | :00:43.
a detailed artwork celebrathng Yorkshire for the Tour De France. | :00:44. | :00:55.
Could this be a turning point in a 30`year fight for justhce? | :00:56. | :01:01.
The Labour leader Ed Miliband today gave what he called 'an absolute | :01:02. | :01:03.
pledge for truth and justicd' for miners arrested | :01:04. | :01:06.
during the most violent clash of the miners strike three decades ago 30 | :01:07. | :01:09.
years ago today, police and miners fought each other | :01:10. | :01:14.
Many miners were charged with rioting and faced long jail | :01:15. | :01:19.
Two years ago the BBC revealed that policd | :01:20. | :01:22.
We'll hear from Mr Miliband shortl, but first a brief reminder | :01:23. | :01:26.
of the events of 18th June 0984 from a miner and a policeman. | :01:27. | :01:32.
It was a beautiful day but there was a real heavy aware that somdthing | :01:33. | :01:42.
was going to happen. Things started changing as though there was | :01:43. | :01:43.
something in the air. I've never seen so many polhce | :01:44. | :01:55.
officers and protesters. Thhs was their livelihood. I believe that | :01:56. | :02:04.
somebody should be brought to book for what they have done. It wrong. | :02:05. | :02:16.
What do you want? I want thdm to say, we were wrong. | :02:17. | :02:30.
What were your concerns? Thdy won't my words. | :02:31. | :02:42.
Former policeman Tony Mundax and former miner Carl Holmes. | :02:43. | :02:44.
Well, in 2012, after we revealed that officers were | :02:45. | :02:46.
told what to write in their statements, South Yorkshire Police | :02:47. | :02:48.
referred itself to the Independent Police Complaints Commission. | :02:49. | :02:51.
19 months later, they're sthll considering the evidence. | :02:52. | :02:53.
Now, in an exclusive intervhew with our political editor Len Tingle the | :02:54. | :02:57.
man who this time next year might be Prime Minister, Labour leaddr | :02:58. | :03:00.
Ed Miliband, has joined campaigners calling for a full inquiry. | :03:01. | :03:07.
What would you consider to be a proper investigation, a public | :03:08. | :03:21.
enquiry? It's 18 months since the IP CC said they risk of the | :03:22. | :03:24.
investigation, we need a proper investigation will stop we `re | :03:25. | :03:28.
urging them to get on with that process and then we need to move | :03:29. | :03:33.
forward from there. What I want to see is the truth to come out so | :03:34. | :03:37.
there can be proper justice for those who were there on that day and | :03:38. | :03:43.
to fool that the truth hasn't `` who feel that the hasn't come ott. Will | :03:44. | :03:51.
you go forward and insist that there is a proper enquiry? I think we can | :03:52. | :03:57.
debate the proper form of it and that's something we should do. What | :03:58. | :04:02.
I want to see, the most important thing, is the IP CC to get on with | :04:03. | :04:08.
their scoping investigation and see what they conclude. They max well | :04:09. | :04:14.
conclude they are going to do an investigation. I think the lost | :04:15. | :04:18.
important thing is to get the process underway. We can't be sure | :04:19. | :04:26.
what the next move forward hs going to be. I want proper truth `nd | :04:27. | :04:28.
proper justice for what happened and proper justice for what happened and | :04:29. | :04:32.
we are determined to make it happen. There are those that would say that | :04:33. | :04:40.
is a wishy`washy answer. We are going to wait to see what comes up, | :04:41. | :04:47.
but I am making a very clear promise that those in opposition, mx | :04:48. | :04:55.
absolute pledge is we will find justice in this matter and will do | :04:56. | :04:59.
whatever is necessary. Ed has a local constituency that | :05:00. | :05:25.
would have minors in the past. He understands the issues and the | :05:26. | :05:31.
injustice. I believe him whdn he makes those announcements btt I can | :05:32. | :05:35.
understand why others are hdsitant in accepting it at face valte. In | :05:36. | :05:40.
the past we have been promised all sorts of things and they've never | :05:41. | :05:41.
come to fruition Millions of pounds has been cut | :05:42. | :05:49.
from children's services across Yorkshire, with Rothdrham | :05:50. | :05:53.
Council becoming the latest to Today it decided to close 10 out | :05:54. | :05:55.
of 22 of its Sure Start centres which offer help | :05:56. | :05:59.
and childcare support to falilies. In the past five years, ?7.4 million | :06:00. | :06:01.
has been taken from Sure St`rt These range from just 0.2% | :06:02. | :06:04.
in Kirklees to 13% in North This used to be a Sure Start | :06:05. | :06:13.
nursery. Serving families | :06:14. | :06:26.
in the Sharrow area of Sheffield, But it became another victil of | :06:27. | :06:28.
Sure Start cuts. Sheffield Council says therd were 36 | :06:29. | :06:33.
centres, there are now 17 cdntre areas instead serving the whole | :06:34. | :06:36.
of the city. there's nothing else in the area. | :06:37. | :06:47.
There are no libraries in the area. There is no SportsCenter. This is | :06:48. | :06:53.
it. They have not thought about the people who live here. I don't drive | :06:54. | :06:57.
so there's nowhere else to go. We have no other facilities to use | :06:58. | :07:03.
This used to be a Sure Start nursery in Sheffield. It was mostly funded | :07:04. | :07:09.
by the NHS. It soon became ` victim of cuts. Sheffield Council has told | :07:10. | :07:19.
us there were 36 centres, now there are 17 centre areas instead, selling | :07:20. | :07:24.
the whole of the city. Figures seen by us show the council has reduced | :07:25. | :07:30.
the amount spent on centres by half ?1 million in the last five | :07:31. | :07:35.
I've used this centre for the last ten years. As a single parent, I am | :07:36. | :07:46.
not getting as much support as I did. Sure Start funding used to be | :07:47. | :07:53.
ring fenced meaning budget were protected but that is no longer the | :07:54. | :07:57.
case. Our local councils ard having to make huge savings becausd of | :07:58. | :08:01.
government cuts. Before the last general election in 2010, D`vid | :08:02. | :08:04.
Cameron said Sure Start centres would be a big part of the future. | :08:05. | :08:11.
We know how much families rdly on tax credits, Sure Start and the | :08:12. | :08:15.
minimum wage. We will keep these things and where possible ilprove | :08:16. | :08:17.
them to help family to help families who need them most. | :08:18. | :08:20.
Using the Freedom of inform`tion act we have found that councils have | :08:21. | :08:29.
reduced the amount they are spending by more than ?7.5 million. | :08:30. | :08:43.
An average, three centres are closing each week across thd | :08:44. | :08:48.
country. A heartfelt plea | :08:49. | :09:12.
for a young boy's stolen puppy. Peaches the pug was taken | :09:13. | :09:15.
from a family home in Batlex. His seven`year`old owner, | :09:16. | :09:17.
is desperate to get him back. There was more bad news in South | :09:18. | :09:26.
Yorkshire today with Doncaster Council being recommended to accept | :09:27. | :09:29.
plans to close all of its rdmaining Seven could close, | :09:30. | :09:32.
with services being handed over to The closures will save | :09:33. | :09:35.
the council nearly ?2 million. Protestors have already said they | :09:36. | :09:38.
plan to block the decision A final decision will be | :09:39. | :09:41.
announced on 25th June. The council has to make savhngs | :09:42. | :09:44.
of more than ?100 million bx 20 7. It says standards | :09:45. | :09:47.
of care shouldn't be affectdd. A convicted rapist from Rotherham, | :09:48. | :09:49.

has admitted arson. Richard Dickenson will be | :10:20. | :10:22.
sentenced next month. Neighbours reported hearing a big | :10:23. | :10:24.
bang and seeing flames 10 fdet high lapping the roof of the bungalow | :10:25. | :10:27.
in the incident on 28th May. Richard Dickenson was led | :10:28. | :10:30.
to safety by firemen. He's been remanded | :10:31. | :10:37.

minutes from 7am until 7pm Londays to Saturdays, apart from whdn | :11:01. | :11:03.
Leeds United are playing at home. We know the city centre is growing | :11:04. | :11:17.
in terms of attraction and development. What we want to do is | :11:18. | :11:24.
make it easy to get into thd city centre. We know Park and ride is | :11:25. | :11:30.
successful because car parks at stations are groaning under the | :11:31. | :11:31.
strain. West Yorkshire had | :11:32. | :11:34.
the most convictions for animal cruelty in England | :11:35. | :11:37.
and Wales last year, new figures 126 people were convicted | :11:38. | :11:39.
in the county. It's the second year running that | :11:40. | :11:43.
West Yorkshire has been Also making the top ten was | :11:44. | :11:46.
North Yorkshire which came seventh The Diana Awards, which recognise | :11:47. | :11:50.

but she decided to open his cafe On Christmas Day we feed | :12:13. | :12:15.
the homeless. Not just the homeless ` | :12:16. | :12:23.
less fortunate people. We feed them | :12:24. | :12:27.
and they really enjoy it. My dad always said he wanted to open | :12:28. | :12:31.
a cafe on Christmas Day and feed the homeless and | :12:32. | :12:34.
the less fortunate, so we dhd that. Police have asked | :12:35. | :12:43.

Batley CCTV has been releasdd of the moment Peaches the pug was stolen | :12:46. | :12:51.

these days there's a lycra clad Or the odd pair of tandem | :14:49. | :14:50.
riders struggling up them! Ahhh, | :14:51. | :14:58.
it's the taking part that counts! Well, Sir Bradley Wiggins ` | :14:59. | :15:00.
and now the Tour de France coming to Yorkshire ` | :15:01. | :15:03.
have proved an inspiration And it?s proving a boost | :15:04. | :15:05.
for business as well. Cycling was worth ?3 billion to | :15:06. | :15:16.
the British economy in 2011 ` But the signs suggest things | :15:17. | :15:21.
have got even better. The industry employs around 23, 00 | :15:22. | :15:27.
people and with more bikes being bought, there's more business for | :15:28. | :15:30.
manufacturers and retailers alike. Our Tour de France correspondent | :15:31. | :15:33.
Matt Slater's been looking Famous Frenchman once said, we are a | :15:34. | :15:54.
nation upshot seizures. This is what bike shops look like now. Whth that | :15:55. | :16:02.
famous French bike race comhng our way, it is boomtime in Yorkshire. | :16:03. | :16:08.
Cycle sales have increased since around mid`2000. Not only ever | :16:09. | :16:14.
missing people getting on bhkes but they are already `` also buxing | :16:15. | :16:21.
several bikes. They use thel for different purposes. According to the | :16:22. | :16:29.
latest figures, cycling is worth ?3 billion to the British economy. The | :16:30. | :16:34.
majority is in retail. We bty more bikes than anywhere else in Europe | :16:35. | :16:37.
apart from Germany. Most of these bikes will bought in the far east. | :16:38. | :16:43.
But there are manufactures hn our region who are starting to build | :16:44. | :16:49.
bikes again. Orange Mountain bikes are built in Halifax and already `` | :16:50. | :16:52.
always have been. Darren is one of the staff of 2 who | :16:53. | :17:04.
handbuilt 4000 bikes a year. He dreaded to make more. A lot of | :17:05. | :17:10.
companies still get parts from Taiwan. , whereas there are marked | :17:11. | :17:17.
and more coming through that make them in the UK. It does cost a | :17:18. | :17:19.
little bit more but there is room selling bikes to the Chinesd might | :17:20. | :17:32.
sound fanciful but there is a new candy attitude in the bike hndustry | :17:33. | :17:36.

Have you seen anything like this painting before? | :17:56. | :17:58.
Some of Yorkshire's best known landmarks are brought to life | :17:59. | :18:00.
Now we've been waiting all day for news of that Leeds Unitdd | :18:01. | :18:10.
Paul's here ` still no new lanager ` or should I say coach in pl`ce? | :18:11. | :18:16.
No confirmation yet. What wd do know is the key candidate is still the | :18:17. | :18:33.
man they want to appoint by all accounts. We know that David | :18:34. | :18:37.
Hockaday has been at Elland Road today. And we can assume th`t they | :18:38. | :18:41.
have been talking contracts. But there has been no confirmathon. | :18:42. | :18:51.
Here he is on the training ground back in the old days. We know a | :18:52. | :19:00.
little bit about him but thd truth of the matter is not a lot. No, we | :19:01. | :19:07.
can drop a few names. He co`ched with Graham Taylor and most recently | :19:08. | :19:14.
with Martin Allen at Cheltenham He is a foot taller's coach co`ch. He | :19:15. | :19:23.
is a modern thinking man. M`ybe that's what we want. They are doing | :19:24. | :19:28.
different things differentlx in Leeds. | :19:29. | :19:33.
And, as if we didn't have enough football in | :19:34. | :19:35.
our lives at the moment, thd fixture lists for the new domestic league | :19:36. | :19:38.
Following their promotion, Rotherham United will make their debut back | :19:39. | :19:42.
in The Championship, away at Derby County on Saturday, 9th Augtst. | :19:43. | :19:45.
Their first home match will be against Wolves the | :19:46. | :19:47.
And League One new boys Chesterfield start with a trip to Leyton Orient, | :19:48. | :19:50.

And Yorkshire are still in a strong position on Day 3 | :19:56. | :19:59.
of their County Championship match against Sussex.They | :20:00. | :20:00.
lost a couple of first innings wickets this morning, | :20:01. | :20:03.
The poor lad fell just one run short of a century. | :20:04. | :20:06.
Yorkshire have progressed to 27 for 5. | :20:07. | :20:23.
In boxing, some terrific news for two Leeds fighters who found | :20:24. | :20:27.
out today that they've been picked to represent England at | :20:28. | :20:29.
Kez Ashfaq is already a junhor Commonwealth champion and won the | :20:30. | :20:34.
For Nicola Adams the Commonwealths are | :20:35. | :20:40.
After her recent defeat at the Europeans she's determined to | :20:41. | :20:45.
get back to the top of the podium and thinks Kez can get therd too. | :20:46. | :20:49.
I think he?s really got the potential to do that. | :20:50. | :20:52.
He?s got the speed, he?s got the skills, he?s got the | :20:53. | :20:54.
power and I think the two athletes from Leeds are going to do something | :20:55. | :20:58.
Tomorrow on Look North Sport by the way, we really could be hearing from | :20:59. | :21:07.
His investment in his favourite football club Doncaster Rovdrs, | :21:08. | :21:13.
together with former Chairm`n John Ryan, will be officially colpleted | :21:14. | :21:16.
But they're making a formal announcement in London | :21:17. | :21:21.
By the way the second test latch starts on Friday and there till `` | :21:22. | :21:46.
are still tickets available. Let's have a word about leaning. 89 he | :21:47. | :21:53.
made today. His staggering xoung man. And he's great to watch. The | :21:54. | :22:02.
Yorkshire regulars on desperate to win the championship. This tack | :22:03. | :22:10.
your. It's going to be quitd a week in the world of cricket. | :22:11. | :22:19.
An artist from North Yorkshhre who's been given the title | :22:20. | :22:22.
of the official artist of the Tour de France Grand Depart has been | :22:23. | :22:26.
showing off his unique painting depicting the big event. | :22:27. | :22:29.
Alister Colley from Pately Bridge near Harrogate spent months | :22:30. | :22:33.
researching the event and h`s captured Yorkshire's beautiful | :22:34. | :22:35.
Hidden away in picturesque Pateley Bridge is the gallery that | :22:36. | :22:44.
is home to the official arthst of this year's Grand Depart. | :22:45. | :22:47.
Alister Colley has been chosen to commemorate Yorkshire's historic | :22:48. | :22:50.
sporting occasion with an original painting and 2014 special prints. | :22:51. | :22:59.
The opportunity of the Grand Depart being hosted again is Yorkshire is | :23:00. | :23:03.
It's a once`in`a`lifetime opporttnity. | :23:04. | :23:05.
In that sense, aestheticallx I hope it's pleasing to look at, | :23:06. | :23:09.
but it's also, you could argue, a historical document of thd event. | :23:10. | :23:15.
Alister's work features Yorkshire's rolling landscapes | :23:16. | :23:17.
and major landmarks all presented in a bright, cheery style for | :23:18. | :23:21.
For this paiting it was important that the style of work for which I | :23:22. | :23:28.
have become synonymous with, the quirkiness, the brightndss, | :23:29. | :23:31.
Every time you look at this wonderful painting you notice | :23:32. | :23:39.
something different, somethhng new, the detail is incredible. | :23:40. | :23:43.
Just to prove that nothing has been left out, there we are look, | :23:44. | :23:46.
the Look North satellite van and the rest of the media g`thered | :23:47. | :23:49.
I think for me some of the favourite areas are inevitably Harrowgate | :23:50. | :23:59.
Behind that we have the viaduct which was so familiar to me | :24:00. | :24:05.
Then of course these areas in the distance like Whitby Abbey, | :24:06. | :24:10.
that aren't actually relevant or part of the race but are synonymous | :24:11. | :24:13.
with Yorkshire so we felt wd couldn't really not include them. | :24:14. | :24:16.
Then we have the section here with the cyclists themselves. | :24:17. | :24:24.
The original was unveiled at this year's Chelsea Flowdr Show | :24:25. | :24:26.
and has already been sold, but it will be on display at Harlow | :24:27. | :24:30.
Carr Gardens near Harrogate over the Tour de France weekend before | :24:31. | :24:34.
Ian White, BBC Look North, Pateley Bridge. | :24:35. | :24:46.
We are all getting very exchted about that will stop she was next to | :24:47. | :24:55.
me, but Superwoman has transformed herself across there. What hs the | :24:56. | :24:57.
weather going to be like? Let's take a look at some | :24:58. | :25:16.
photographs first. It has bden rather cloudy at times this week. I | :25:17. | :25:29.
don't know how this one has been taken. It is a birds eye vidw a | :25:30. | :25:38.
field. And blue skies that developed today. | :25:39. | :25:46.
Tomorrow, it's going to start off on a grey note but I'm hopeful that it | :25:47. | :25:54.
will brighten up once again. After a cloudy and damp start it will | :25:55. | :25:57.
brighten up with many spells of sunshine. Hopefully, for most of | :25:58. | :26:05.
next week it will be very sdttled and largely dry. The odd shower is | :26:06. | :26:11.
possible. It will be cloudy then we like. | :26:12. | :26:15.
Tomorrow is of buying day. `` a fine day. Overnight we will see cloud | :26:16. | :26:32.
developing. That will push down from the north and the East but will | :26:33. | :26:36.
prevent temperatures from dropping. Lows of around 13 Celsius. The sun | :26:37. | :26:39.
will rise at four 50 tomorrow morning, a lot of cloud | :26:40. | :26:53.
around producing a little bht of drizzle. Mostly a drive day and it | :26:54. | :27:01.
will brighten up throughout the afternoon. It won't feel quhte as | :27:02. | :27:11.
warm as it has today. The coast will struggle to get up to the mhd teens. | :27:12. | :27:15.
We have that northerly breeze to blame. On Friday, a similar story, | :27:16. | :27:27.
brightening up with sunshind. The Sunday, our bike ride looks like it | :27:28. | :27:30.
will be dry. We'll see you later on. I'm going to | :27:31. | :27:43.
enjoy the football later. Good night. | :27:44. | :27:48. |
