First tonight ` controversial plans for a ndw IKEA

store in South Yorkshire have been approved by Sheffield Counchl.

The Swedish furniture retailer says the store right next to the M1

motorway will create around 400 jobs.

But campaigners say the addhtional pollution could cost lives.

It is a global brand, famous for affordable furniture. Now it is on

its way to South Yorkshire. After plans were approved by Sheffield

City Council this lunchtime. More than a decade after the ret`il giant

first attempted to open a store here. The planning committed made

their decision, on balance the positive regeneration aspects of

coming to the city, the six to 9 investment, ?80 million contribution

to the Tinsley Link 400 new jobs for people. But it seems flatpack

furniture comes at a cost. Tinsley is an area with poor air qu`lity.

Director of public health is warning the harm caused by the slight
