Good evening from Sheffield. News. We | :00:00. | :00:09.
Just five days till the world's greatest cycle race | :00:10. | :00:12.
comes to Yorkshire, we're lhve on the hill that'll present one | :00:13. | :00:15.
We'll find out how people in this city are getting re`dy to | :00:16. | :00:22.
And we'll hear from the Tour's director as he flies | :00:23. | :00:28.
into Leeds`Bradford to take charge of the event. | :00:29. | :00:31.
The West Yorkshire children killed by carbon monoxide in Corfu. | :00:32. | :00:36.
We'll have the latest on thd investigation into their de`ths | :00:37. | :00:39.
And a community clean`up for an area of Sheffield whdre | :00:40. | :00:42.
the biggest question of all is what will the weather be like for the | :00:43. | :01:01.
weekend? I will be live latdr in the programme. | :01:02. | :01:08.
In five days time, the world's biggest annual sporting event. | :01:09. | :01:15.
The Tour de France gets underway here in Yorkshire. | :01:16. | :01:22.
All week we'll be reporting from around the route. | :01:23. | :01:25.
Tonight we're on Jenkin Road in Sheffield, | :01:26. | :01:29.
the steepest climb of all in the two Yorkshire sections of the r`ce. | :01:30. | :01:41.
The Sheffield cycle school `re making it look pretty easy. Later in | :01:42. | :01:51.
the programme I will be putting Paul through his paces. | :01:52. | :01:55.
First though here in Sheffidld there's concern that | :01:56. | :01:57.
the so`called city of sport isn t making as much of the Tour | :01:58. | :02:00.
It will not be long until the grass verges are packed | :02:01. | :02:07.
This is where the tour will drop down from the hills into Shdffield | :02:08. | :02:12.
and until this weekend, there wasn't much to market. | :02:13. | :02:14.
The villagers decided to brhng out the bunting themselves. | :02:15. | :02:19.
I drive through Sheffield and say it doesn't look | :02:20. | :02:21.
There is some bunting up in the next village but it looks | :02:22. | :02:28.
I was waiting for something to go up here | :02:29. | :02:33.
so that is when I made a colment on Facebook and where it startdd from. | :02:34. | :02:37.
On the outskirts of Sheffield, it is villagers doing it for themselves. | :02:38. | :02:47.
The further you get to Sheffield city centre, | :02:48. | :02:49.
There are some that are worried that as you get further down | :02:50. | :02:58.
along the route into the city, there is not enough yellow. | :02:59. | :03:03.
The city centre is beginning to look amazingly yellow with | :03:04. | :03:07.
our banners and flags and the French market behind me is coming. | :03:08. | :03:11.
Out on the route in the villages, they are turning yellow | :03:12. | :03:14.
Outside the city, you will need a tent but thdre are | :03:15. | :03:25.
Sheffield is three quarters full for Saturday night. | :03:26. | :03:31.
Sheffield asay they are ready and it is being described | :03:32. | :03:34.
as a once`in`a`lifetime opportunity for business. | :03:35. | :03:36.
The legwork now is to maximhse what the city can get out of the race. | :03:37. | :03:58.
I am joined by one Councillor. Sheffield doesn't seem to h`ve got | :03:59. | :04:08.
behind the sport like everybody else. Sheffield has always been | :04:09. | :04:14.
really excited about the totr. The city is getting more and more yellow | :04:15. | :04:19.
and there is more enthusiast and building. Shouldn't this have been | :04:20. | :04:26.
two weeks ago? In Sheffield city centre, there isn't much gohng on. | :04:27. | :04:30.
This road is the top five places to watch them race and there is no sign | :04:31. | :04:37.
of any bunting. In Leeds and York, it is covered in yellow. In the | :04:38. | :04:46.
city, there is a lot of yellow. This is a residential area and it is up | :04:47. | :04:51.
to the people if they want to cover their house in yellow. We are | :04:52. | :04:57.
talking about the residenti`l places around the city centre. Isn't it the | :04:58. | :05:03.
government's job to impact on the city? We have been doing a lot of | :05:04. | :05:13.
work. Local residents and communities are engaged with us all. | :05:14. | :05:18.
Richard, how much of a challenge is it for Sheffield because it is the | :05:19. | :05:25.
last part of the race? Therd will be 500,000 people turning out on | :05:26. | :05:29.
Sunday. A bit of bunting here wouldn't have gone a mess. That is | :05:30. | :05:38.
better than bunting. They are real people. Sheffield is a great cycling | :05:39. | :05:44.
area. When they come here, they will know about cycling. The economy is | :05:45. | :05:49.
positive in terms of the Totr de France. Sheffield has done ` | :05:50. | :05:57.
fantastic job. Alan Little radio station have got cycling have an | :05:58. | :06:04.
instead of football heaven. The man who chose Yorkshire to host the | :06:05. | :06:10.
first two stages has now totched down at Leeds Bradford Airport. Matt | :06:11. | :06:30.
Slater was there earlier. This is Christian Prudhomme and what he says | :06:31. | :06:35.
goes over the next few days. It is a great day. It is important for the | :06:36. | :06:58.
tour. Now, you have the best riders in the world. Eric Cantona broke | :06:59. | :07:10.
everybody's arts by moving to Manchester. We only have thhs French | :07:11. | :07:17.
institution on loan. Come on, Yorkshire. Let's get excited. The | :07:18. | :07:22.
countdown is on. Five days to go and the school here are getting behind | :07:23. | :07:24.
the race. As you would expect, there are going to be a few road | :07:25. | :07:28.
disruptions as the race comds to the region. For all the information on | :07:29. | :07:39.
that, go to our Twitter account We will join you a little | :07:40. | :07:51.
The families of two children who died from carbon | :07:52. | :07:53.
monoxide poisoning in Corfu have taken a step closer to findhng out | :07:54. | :07:56.
A hearing was held today ahdad of the full inquest | :07:57. | :07:59.
into the deaths of six`year`old Bobby and seven`year`old | :08:00. | :08:01.
The coroner has announced the inquest will begin next April. | :08:02. | :08:07.
Just six and seven years old when they died. | :08:08. | :08:12.
Bobby and Christianne Shephdrd from Wakefield had been | :08:13. | :08:15.
on a half term break with their dad, Neil, and his wife, Ruth. | :08:16. | :08:19.
They were overcome by fumes at a faulty boiler | :08:20. | :08:23.
Their parents say they still need answers. | :08:24. | :08:33.
Today, a hearing was held at Wakefield Coroner's court looking | :08:34. | :08:38.
The coroner has promised a full and fearless investigation, | :08:39. | :08:47.
We don't believe any changes have been made to prevent this | :08:48. | :08:54.
from happening again and th`t is our main aim, to seek justice to for | :08:55. | :08:57.
them and to be able to sleep sound at night knowing we have stopped it | :08:58. | :09:01.
Another couple of months isn't going to make a difference. | :09:02. | :09:06.
We have the people who we w`nt to represent us and we will waht | :09:07. | :09:10.
Today, we had details about some of the witnesses who will bd called | :09:11. | :09:17.
Bobby and Christianne Shephdrd's father, Neil and his wife, Ruth | :09:18. | :09:23.
will be given evidence as will the mother, Sharon Wood | :09:24. | :09:26.
The coroner will be hearing from eyewitnesses, staff from thd hotel, | :09:27. | :09:30.
staff from the holiday firm Thomas Cook and health and safety workers, | :09:31. | :09:35.
Because of the number of witnesses, the inquest is likely to last | :09:36. | :09:43.
It is expected to get underway in April next year. | :09:44. | :09:53.
The Grand Theatre in Leeds is to receive ?650,000 | :09:54. | :09:55.
from the city council to allow it to continue operating. | :09:56. | :09:58.
The council is stepping in following funding problems | :09:59. | :10:01.
and a continuing investigathon into alleged fraud at the theatre. | :10:02. | :10:05.
Three people have been arrested and they remain on bail. | :10:06. | :10:08.
The theatre underwent a ?20 million refurbishment in 006, | :10:09. | :10:13.
but Leeds City Council says it now has significant concerns | :10:14. | :10:18.
A Leeds based refugee will be deported to Jamaica on Wedndsday | :10:19. | :10:23.
despite fearing for his lifd there because he says he's bisexu`l. | :10:24. | :10:27.
Protestors and family members gathered to support Orashia Edwards | :10:28. | :10:31.
The judge will decide whether a judicial review | :10:32. | :10:38.
of the case can be granted `nd hand down his decision tomorrow. | :10:39. | :10:42.
Nestle in York is going to start paying the living wagd. | :10:43. | :10:44.
It says it'll be the first lajor manufacturer to do so in thd UK | :10:45. | :10:48.
and will benefit eight thousand workers around the country. | :10:49. | :10:50.
The living wage is ?7.65 an hour, that's ?1.34 an hour more than | :10:51. | :10:55.
The Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu who's | :10:56. | :11:00.
campaigned for a living wagd has called it a very encouraging step. | :11:01. | :11:06.
A litter pick was held in a Sheffield suburb this lorning. | :11:07. | :11:09.
But smartening up the streets was not the onlx aim. | :11:10. | :11:12.
It was also part of an initiative to bring together | :11:13. | :11:14.
residents from difference r`ces and religions and aid integration. | :11:15. | :11:16.
Armed with rubbish bags and litter pickers, more than 100 residents | :11:17. | :11:27.
turned out this morning detdrmined to clean up their streets. | :11:28. | :11:33.
It is an area which has an tnwelcome reputation for fly tipping | :11:34. | :11:38.
Now the community itself, with a little help from | :11:39. | :11:44.
the police and other organisations, is doing something about it. | :11:45. | :11:48.
We are constantly told of this litter and how upsetting it is for | :11:49. | :11:51.
people who have to go to thdir cars or take their children to school. | :11:52. | :11:55.
This community is made up of many different races | :11:56. | :12:01.
and religions but it is the Roma community who are often blaled for | :12:02. | :12:04.
Some people say Roma do this and this but it is not posshble | :12:05. | :12:12.
Different people do rubbish as well and make a noise. | :12:13. | :12:16.
Only last month I was here reporting on tensions in the area when police | :12:17. | :12:30.
Today, as you can see, it is a completely different story. | :12:31. | :12:40.
The story today though is of a community united and proud | :12:41. | :12:49.
Signs have now gone up warnhng people they will be fined | :12:50. | :12:54.
for dropping rubbish but today, it seems it is a clean sweep. | :12:55. | :13:05.
Rock legends The Who are set to return to Leeds to celebratd | :13:06. | :13:08.
The band will play at the city's arena on December 2nd. | :13:09. | :13:12.
Their original visit to Leeds was in 1970 when the band recorded Live | :13:13. | :13:16.
at Leeds which is viewed by many as one of the greatest live | :13:17. | :13:20.
We'll talk to Kimberley Walsh and Alistair Griffin about the Tour | :13:21. | :13:38.
Sport now and in boxing, Kell Brook's world title showdown | :13:39. | :13:47.
against Shaun Porter has bedn re`scheduled for September 6th. | :13:48. | :13:49.
Sheffield boxer Brook is currently training in the Canary Islands | :13:50. | :13:51.
and was due to fight Americ`n IBF world champion Porter in August | :13:52. | :13:55.
But the bout has now been confirmed for the first weekend in September | :13:56. | :13:59.
and will take place in eithdr in New York or Las Vegas. | :14:00. | :14:04.
I am 100% prepared for whatever happens in the ring. | :14:05. | :14:08.
I am not fussed about what he will bring, I will | :14:09. | :14:13.
turn up with the very best `nd that is enough to beat any fightdr. | :14:14. | :14:20.
The future of Ross McCormack as a Leeds United player is in doubt | :14:21. | :14:23.
as he hasn't joined team mates on a pre`season training calp. | :14:24. | :14:26.
McCormack has been with the Elland Road club since 2010 | :14:27. | :14:30.
and was their top scorer last season with 29 goals. | :14:31. | :14:33.
Premier League and Championship clubs are said to be interested | :14:34. | :14:36.
Now a transfer seems closer as he didn't fly with Leeds to | :14:37. | :14:40.
Rotherham's Ben Swift missed out on becoming British road race | :14:41. | :14:47.
cycling champion yesterday by the width of a wheel. | :14:48. | :14:49.
Swift has not been picked to ride in the Tour de France but almost | :14:50. | :14:53.
made up for it in the national championships in South Wales. | :14:54. | :14:57.
After making a breakaway he was overtaken on the line by fellow | :14:58. | :15:01.
Meanwhile Otley's Lizzie Arlitstead was third in the women's race. | :15:02. | :15:09.
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats were denied victory in Super League | :15:10. | :15:11.
yesterday after a last minute try by Hull FC. | :15:12. | :15:13.
When Nick Scruton fought his way to the line it lookdd as | :15:14. | :15:16.
if the Wildcats were set for their third win in a row. | :15:17. | :15:19.
But a late try in the corner from Hull's Kirk Yeaman was | :15:20. | :15:22.
You can see more from that latch and all the weekend's highlhghts | :15:23. | :15:30.
The official anthem of the Tour de France was released todax. | :15:31. | :15:39.
It?s called The Road written by York songwriter Alistair Griffin and | :15:40. | :15:41.
performed by him and Kimberley Walsh who is of course from Bradford. | :15:42. | :15:46.
If you've not already heard it, then we'll be playing a clip | :15:47. | :15:49.
Earlier I caught up with thdm both and started by asking Kimberley | :15:50. | :15:54.
That is a really hard questhon to ask when he is set right thdre. When | :15:55. | :16:10.
I heard this song, I immedi`tely loved it and wanted to record it. I | :16:11. | :16:17.
felt like I already knew it. I think the fact that the Tour de France is | :16:18. | :16:22.
starting in Yorkshire is a huge deal. Obviously being from | :16:23. | :16:26.
Yorkshire, both of us are, ht is nice to be involved in such a big | :16:27. | :16:31.
event and something that we will remember in years to come. Ht is | :16:32. | :16:36.
nice to be attached to it. Xou are both involved in the opening | :16:37. | :16:42.
ceremony on Thursday. Yes, ` big night and a big crowd expected. | :16:43. | :16:49.
Going to be the first big lhve performance of the song. Kilberly, | :16:50. | :16:53.
what will you be doing at the weekend? You will not be getting on | :16:54. | :16:57.
a bike because you are well and truly pregnant. I am seven lonths | :16:58. | :17:03.
pregnant and I don't think cycling is on the top of my agenda. I will | :17:04. | :17:08.
be watching and taking in the atmosphere and I am excited to be | :17:09. | :17:14.
playing at the arena. It wasn't finished the last time we toured. | :17:15. | :17:20.
How nervous do you both get for something like that? You ard used to | :17:21. | :17:29.
big occasions. You still nervous about Thursday? Nothing will ever be | :17:30. | :17:34.
as terrifying as Strictly Come Dancing so iambic cited for | :17:35. | :17:39.
Thursday. I like live performances because it is happening. `` so I am | :17:40. | :17:48.
excited. It will be one song which I am capable of managing so it will be | :17:49. | :17:53.
fun. Alistair, what reaction have you had so far? We heard it a week | :17:54. | :17:59.
ago and we loved it here. H`ve you had a similar reaction? The response | :18:00. | :18:06.
has been good. BA from people in Yorkshire, cycling fans or the | :18:07. | :18:11.
general public. `` be it from people. I aim to distil the emotions | :18:12. | :18:17.
of the occasion. Fingers crossed we can do that on Thursday night. We | :18:18. | :18:30.
are looking forward to Thursday macro and the Tour de Francd. Thank | :18:31. | :18:37.
you. Now we read join Amy in Sheffield. Sheffield is gearing up | :18:38. | :18:46.
to welcome millions of spectators to the Tour de France on Sundax. We are | :18:47. | :18:54.
still on Jenkin Road. I'll `` Isaac, how difficult was that? Abott eight. | :18:55. | :19:05.
The hell is difficult. This is difficult with the hand rail. You | :19:06. | :19:11.
will be watching from two places? Probably on top of the hill because | :19:12. | :19:21.
they go past in a flash. Cathy, you will be a tour maker. I havd always | :19:22. | :19:26.
loved cycling. The tour was coming here and it was a brilliant | :19:27. | :19:29.
obituaries to you and it will never happen again. Cathy brought us some | :19:30. | :19:37.
jelly sweets when we did our charity ride and it got us up this road You | :19:38. | :19:45.
are a resident here. How excited were you when you found out it was | :19:46. | :19:54.
coming up here? Have you sedn many cyclists come here? Hundreds. It is | :19:55. | :20:00.
funny when they get off the bike to walk. Have you tackled it on your | :20:01. | :20:09.
bike? Not quite. Paul and I has a go early on. This is the part of the | :20:10. | :20:18.
programme I had been dreading. Oh, no as Mission Mark I can't believe | :20:19. | :20:26.
you are beating me. It is not all about speed. Come on, you are all | :20:27. | :20:36.
talk. Harry, I need you. It is a stinker. I don't feel like H am | :20:37. | :20:53.
moving. Come on, Amy! . I don't think we need to announce who won | :20:54. | :20:59.
that race. You had a bit of man flew over the weekend. Harry did tell me | :21:00. | :21:06.
he did all that peddling before Maybe it was true. Harry, I am | :21:07. | :21:11.
nothing without you. It has been beautiful weather today. Have we got | :21:12. | :21:15.
a glimpse of what it will bd like on Saturday and Sunday? We havd heavy | :21:16. | :21:20.
rain on Friday night and it looks as if that will clear through Saturday | :21:21. | :21:24.
morning and if all goes to plan Saturday afternoon and much of | :21:25. | :21:32.
Sunday, there is some sunshhne with a scattering of showers. We will | :21:33. | :21:38.
have to wait and see how wet it will be. It is not often that I take | :21:39. | :21:46.
notice that I will be watchhng it. No pressure. | :21:47. | :21:52.
We have had some fantastic pictures. This is another one of Doug's | :21:53. | :22:07.
crossing. The next one is a scarecrow. Finally, Barnslex Town | :22:08. | :22:14.
Hall. The fountains were lit yellow. If you have some more photos, send | :22:15. | :22:16.
them to me. Now to the graphics for this evening | :22:17. | :22:28.
and the next few days. It h`s been a beautiful day today. This evening is | :22:29. | :22:32.
fine with a small chance of catching a shower. As we had through the | :22:33. | :22:39.
overnight period, issues quhets conditions. `` it is quiet | :22:40. | :22:47.
conditions. As we head into tomorrow, it is a lovely dax to | :22:48. | :22:53.
come. All parts of Yorkshird will be fine and bright with some stnshine. | :22:54. | :22:56.
There will be variable amounts of cloud and it will be that the cloud | :22:57. | :23:01.
thickens to give one or two showers down the Pennine chain. It will feel | :23:02. | :23:07.
quite warm with temperatures around 19 Celsius. That is about average. | :23:08. | :23:15.
That further outlook, Wednesday looks beautiful. Dry and sunny and | :23:16. | :23:22.
very warm. Thursday, there hs more cloud and a bit of a change on | :23:23. | :23:29.
Friday. Some heavy rain on Friday night and the Tour de Francd | :23:30. | :23:33.
weekend, some rain at first and then it is sunshine and scattered | :23:34. | :23:40.
