Splendid picture of a rainbow above Halifax today. | :00:41. | :00:44.
Some very unsettled weather to come in the next few days. | :00:45. | :00:48.
But first, dozens of firefighters have spent the afternoon tackling | :00:49. | :01:03.
a large fire at Ferrybridge Power Station in West Yorkshire. | :01:04. | :01:06.
Black smoke has been pouring from the plant and residents | :01:07. | :01:08.
Crews from across the area were called to the site | :01:09. | :01:14.
near Castleford just before 2:0 pm this afternoon. | :01:15. | :01:16.
A unit near to Stranglands Lane which is used to clean`up gases has | :01:17. | :01:23.

If the police helicopter is circling right now and you can probably see | :01:29. | :01:44.
some smoke still. It is still being dealt with by the Fire Service but | :01:45. | :01:46.

Really dramatic scenes here. Thick, black smoke was coming from the | :01:55. | :01:58.
power station and it could be seen from miles around. It was causing | :01:59. | :02:00.

procedures were activated and thankfully, they say everybody was | :02:14. | :02:18.
accounted for. We do not know what caused this although local people | :02:19. | :02:26.
have told us it is a plant which cleans and gases inside there but we | :02:27. | :02:30.
have no confirmation of that. We have been speaking to local people | :02:31. | :02:33.
who have been told to keep their doors and windows closed today. | :02:34. | :02:39.
I mean, when you see big flames like that and thick black sloke | :02:40. | :02:43.
because there were a lot of smoke first and then it were flames. | :02:44. | :02:46.
They told us to stay in our house and keep our windows | :02:47. | :02:49.
and door shut, and see and just stay in while it is all going on. | :02:50. | :02:52.
We went outside and then about 0 minutes later it just all went up | :02:53. | :02:57.

water into the building to fight the fire. As you can imagine, it is a | :03:27. | :03:32.

been limited to that. How long will it take to put out? We will be here | :03:43. | :03:47.
through the night and possibly several days. It is a lot of work to | :03:48. | :03:55.

no electricity being producdd here so no disruption to the supply but | :04:00. | :04:03.
as you have just had the Fire Service will remain here through the | :04:04. | :04:04.
night. Also tonight, the shocking story of | :04:05. | :04:08.
a man who was told his partner had died when she was in fact still | :04:09. | :04:12.
alive. 71`year`old Ann Saville's heart stopped beating | :04:13. | :04:14.
while a patient at St James's Hospital in February and her family | :04:15. | :04:17.
were told she had died. was showing signs of life. Sadly, | :04:18. | :04:19.
Ann finally passed away at the beginning of July but now hdr family | :04:20. | :04:24.
say they want answers and are taking legal action against the hospital. | :04:25. | :04:29.
Our Health Correspondent Jalie 71 years old and registered blind, | :04:30. | :04:31.
Ann Saville was being treatdd for cancer in St James's Hospital last | :04:32. | :04:41.
February when she suffered ` cardiac arrest. Staff attempted to | :04:42. | :04:44.
resuscitate her, but when their attempts failed her family were | :04:45. | :04:48.
called in and were told she had died. But when her partner John saw | :04:49. | :04:52.
her, he was alarmed to find she was room, I would see Ann looking as if | :04:53. | :05:09.
she were struggling for breath but that was an involuntary reaction. So | :05:10. | :05:15.
obviously I went round to the bedside and I got hold of hdr hand, | :05:16. | :05:18.
she was obviously still warm. Normal temperature. Blood was flowing. I | :05:19. | :05:21.
said she's not dead, she is still alive. Ann lived for a further four | :05:22. | :05:24.
months, brain`damaged as a result of a lack of oxygen before dying at the | :05:25. | :05:27.
start of July. The worst thhng was that, if you read the report, you | :05:28. | :05:33.
see that Ann was laid out rdady for me to arrive and the room cleaned. | :05:34. | :05:38.
So there has been different people walking round that room, with Ann | :05:39. | :05:41.
laid there struggling for breath and incident report into Ann's treatment | :05:42. | :06:22.
at St James's Hospital and highlights a number problems in her | :06:23. | :06:26.
care, and the failings that led to her family being told she was dead | :06:27. | :06:29.
when she was actually still alive. The internal hospital investigation | :06:30. | :06:32.
found that no action was taken after warnings of a potential | :06:33. | :06:35.
deterioration in her condithon the night before her cardiac arrest | :06:36. | :06:37.
Family members were told that Ann had died before doctors carried out | :06:38. | :06:39.
an examination to confirm ddath Staff were unsure of the | :06:40. | :06:42.
significance of the breath that Ann started taking, believing they were | :06:43. | :06:45.
recognised part of death rather than are very basic breaches of processes | :06:46. | :06:47.
and protocol that have occurred here and for that reason we will be | :06:48. | :06:53.
writing the trust in future and ask them to accept full responsibility. | :06:54. | :06:56.
The hospital trust has statdd it believes that the clinical care is | :06:57. | :07:00.
provided Ann was appropriatd, but that it can improve on its | :07:01. | :07:01.
procedures following cardiac arrests and the way in which it comlunicates | :07:02. | :07:04.
with families during tragic events. But Ann's family say they are still | :07:05. | :07:06.
coming to terms with a loss they A true inspiration ` | :07:07. | :07:10.

from the General Election and there have been some pretty significant | :07:18. | :07:20.
political shenanigans in Halifax. A vote of no confidence | :07:21. | :07:25.
in the Labour council leader last night means Calderdale has changed | :07:26. | :07:29.
from red to blue. The Conservatives are | :07:30. | :07:32.
now running things. Our Local Government Reporter James | :07:33. | :07:33.
Vincent explains. Politics can be | :07:34. | :07:37.
a cutthroat business. This time yesterday, Labour | :07:38. | :07:38.
were running the council here. But then, there was a surprhse | :07:39. | :07:42.
late night coup in Calderdale. It is basically an early version | :07:43. | :07:47.
of the guillotine used in the town the 16th century, and last night it | :07:48. | :07:52.
was Labour who got the chop. Labour, the Conservatives | :07:53. | :07:55.
and the Lib Dems haven't seen eye to But increased parking chargds | :07:56. | :07:58.
in the town centre meant it all came Clive has worked as a fishmonger | :07:59. | :08:03.
in the town centre for years. He says the politicians need to | :08:04. | :08:07.
listen to shopowners like him. People will travel | :08:08. | :08:09.
because they get free parking, they'll spend that extra ?15 or ?20 | :08:10. | :08:17.
in fuel just to get free parking. Councils need to realise that people | :08:18. | :08:21.
want to use their cars and hf there is nowhere to park or there is no | :08:22. | :08:24.
free parking they will go elsewhere. The Conservatives | :08:25. | :08:30.
and Lib Dems say Labour is not A vote | :08:31. | :08:33.
of no confidence last night and the It clearly shows that | :08:34. | :08:36.
the Conservatives and the Lhb Dems The Lib Dems have handed power to | :08:37. | :08:44.
the Conservatives nationally and now they have done the same | :08:45. | :08:48.
in Calderdale. People will be faced with | :08:49. | :08:50.
a very clear choice. We have a great record | :08:51. | :08:52.
of what we have done in Calderdale and I'm confident we will rdturn to | :08:53. | :08:55.
power next May. Labour has got 25 councillors, | :08:56. | :08:58.
the highest number. They have been running things | :08:59. | :09:05.
since May. The other parties do not have enough | :09:06. | :09:10.
councillors to run the council on their own, but if they all gang | :09:11. | :09:13.
up they can outvote Labour Any decision that is taken | :09:14. | :09:16.
