Good evening and welcome to Tuesday's Look North.

The Keighley man left in a coma after an attack in Thailand `

:00:00.:00:08.

his family say court delays and blunders have left them devastated.

:00:09.:00:13.

Adam Pickles' parents Adele and Andrew will join us live

:00:14.:00:15.

How bullet technology helped a retired police officer find

:00:16.:00:20.

a unique way of tackling lead theft in Yorkshire.

:00:21.:00:23.

And rolling back the years ` the Bradford company turning 2CVs

:00:24.:00:28.

into collectors' items to sell back to the French.

:00:29.:00:37.

Her It has been a cooler day. We have also had some sunshine.

:00:38.:00:56.

The parents of Adam Pickles ` the teacher

:00:57.:00:59.

from West Yorkshire left in a coma after being beaten up in Thailand `

:01:00.:01:03.

say they've been left frustrated and upset with the Thai legal system.

:01:04.:01:08.

A verdict was due today in the trial of Sean Tinsley, the man

:01:09.:01:12.

But the verdict's been postponed for a second time

:01:13.:01:16.

after important legal documents were sent to the wrong court.

:01:17.:01:20.

We'll be hearing from Andrew and Adele Pickles in a moment.

:01:21.:01:23.

Adam Pickles had lived in Thailand for seven years when he was attacked

:01:24.:01:30.

He had been working as an English teacher

:01:31.:01:34.

In May 2012 he was involved in a so`called road rage attack.

:01:35.:01:42.

Adam was in a coma but now shows some signs of recovery and is being

:01:43.:01:46.

The last two years have been distressing for the Pickles

:01:47.:01:51.

His parents Andrew and Adele were forced to remortgage their home to

:01:52.:01:56.

pay medical bills of around ?130,000 and to make several trips to

:01:57.:02:00.

Thailand to see the man accused of Adam's attempted murder face trial.

:02:01.:02:03.

The court proceedings have been slow and many hearings

:02:04.:02:07.

The family expected to hear a verdict this morning but instead

:02:08.:02:13.

This time till mid`September after important papers were sent to

:02:14.:02:18.

Well, Adam's parents, Adele and Andrew Pickles join us now.

:02:19.:02:35.

Another set back today, how did you feel when you heard the news?

:02:36.:02:43.

The first feeling was shock. Then frustration after we got over the

:02:44.:02:54.

shop. Angry really that this happened. It has gone on for so long

:02:55.:03:01.

and it has a real impact on the family and it is difficult for

:03:02.:03:06.

Andrew and I. All the constant ups and downs. An emotional

:03:07.:03:12.

roller`coaster, really. And explain the difficulties you have had trying

:03:13.:03:16.

to do with the authorities? There is the obvious cup location with the

:03:17.:03:22.

language but there is also `` obvious complication. The stages it

:03:23.:03:30.

has to go through. We have a lawyer and friends who can translate. It is

:03:31.:03:36.

a very complicated process and we are not sure about the stages we

:03:37.:03:43.

have to go through. Is this just inefficiency on behalf of the people

:03:44.:03:47.

in Thailand or is there more to it that gets you worried? I think we

:03:48.:03:54.

are unsure now whether we are going to get justice now. We put our faith

:03:55.:04:01.

in the Thai system. And your own money in it as well. A double worry

:04:02.:04:07.

for you? Yes. So we are very unsure now about what is going to happen.

:04:08.:04:12.

And whether we're going to get justice for Adam and his little boy

:04:13.:04:18.

Ben. We would like some closure on this. It does not just affect you

:04:19.:04:22.

but also Ben. Your beautiful grandson. Also his wife as well. She

:04:23.:04:33.

has been negotiating directly with the lawyers and interpreting for as

:04:34.:04:42.

`` as. It would have been very difficult without home and Adam's

:04:43.:04:47.

friends have been at the court as well and translating and watching

:04:48.:04:51.

what is happening. What about the British government will, what have

:04:52.:04:53.

they done, have they helped you? Not really. We spoke to our MP today,

:04:54.:05:04.

our MP secretary and we're hoping we will get the help we. We will be

:05:05.:05:09.

talking with him on the programme tonight at 1025 PM and we will be

:05:10.:05:17.

asking how we can help you. How is Adam doing at the moment? He's no

:05:18.:05:22.

longer classed as in a coma, he is now emerging in what is known as a

:05:23.:05:29.

minimally conscious state which in layman's Thames meteors coming

:05:30.:05:31.

through and we are getting responses from him. `` layman's terms. He can

:05:32.:05:42.

smile and indicate that he can hear us so that gives as a lot of hope.

:05:43.:05:46.

Thank you so much for coming in and we give you `` wish you the best of

:05:47.:05:51.

luck. A Yorkshire company has come up with

:05:52.:05:55.

a new tool to try and combat the huge problem

:05:56.:05:58.

of metal theft which costs the UK The idea was the brainchild

of a former West Yorkshire police It is

a crime that is damaging Yorkshire's Once the thieves have struck, the

:06:09.:06:13.

is just one of the places that The problem is that the thieves make

:06:14.:06:21.

such a mess in taking the lead, they rip it off in the middle

:06:22.:06:29.

of the night and they don?t really The damage they cause can cause

:06:30.:06:35.

immense harm inside the building So the cost

:06:36.:06:39.

of replacing that lead tends to be about four times the value of

:06:40.:06:42.

the lead that is actually stolen. But could this be

:06:43.:06:45.

the way to deter criminals? Designed by a former West Yorkshire

for unscrupulous dealers. if you buy marked metal you

and popular market town in the Peak District ` but Bakewell does get

:12:21.:12:24.

very busy, especially in August. And it's likely to get much more

:12:25.:12:27.

crowded, as roads are closed while eight weeks of work are carried out

to replace the town's gas mains. Some of the traders aren't happy,

as Jo Healey reports from Bakewell. The first cut. Traders say they will

time of year being at the tourist town we need as much trade coming in

without disruption. Customers are complaining about traffic. They

cannot find the space and cannot get him. They will go elsewhere. Closing

:13:07.:13:12.

roles like this in a busy market town is never going to be popular.

:13:13.:13:18.

But this work that they have just started they says the has to be

done. They are replacing the gas mains to ensure safe and reliable

the existing metal gas mains are being replaced by new hardware and

plastic pipe that will be in the ground and will be providing safe

and reliable gas supplies for a lifetime. Until then the work will

run for two months. York prepares for one

:13:56.:13:57.

you don't need me to tell you the new series of Dr Who starts

:13:58.:14:09.

on Saturday night here on BBC1. What you may not know, though,

:14:10.:14:18.

is the heart warming story Billy Hanshaw, who's from Leeds,

:14:19.:14:20.

is a big Dr Who fan and designed his own opening title

:14:21.:14:28.

sequence and put it on You Tube. The show's creators spotted it,

:14:29.:14:32.

loved it, and asked Billy He's here with us,

:14:33.:14:34.

but let's have a look at that Without giving away any secrets,

:14:35.:14:39.

is the BBC's version recognisably The final title sequence is a

:14:40.:15:42.

collaboration between myself and the team. You have 60,000 viewers that

:15:43.:15:51.

the day you put it on. You have now had 800,000 views. And counting. Did

:15:52.:15:56.

you ever imagine it would be so popular? It was put on there as a

:15:57.:16:00.

portfolio piece because that is the kind of work I want to get into. I

:16:01.:16:08.

did not expect for one minute that they would get in touch. You must

:16:09.:16:16.

have really impressed them. You thought it was a hoax to begin with?

:16:17.:16:21.

I did. I message him back to say is there anything I can help you with

:16:22.:16:29.

because they linked to me. They said would you be interested in helping

:16:30.:16:33.

us out with the series eight titles and I jumped at it. The titles have

:16:34.:16:38.

changed dramatically. Over the many years as well. That was the original

:16:39.:16:46.

in 19 60. Amazing for the time it was produced. It is still quite

:16:47.:16:53.

creepy. Still evokes a sense of the otherworldly effect. How much of a

:16:54.:17:06.

fan of Doctor Who are you? Capaldi is my doctor from now on. David

:17:07.:17:13.

Tennant is mine. I am toad that Capaldi is sensational. `` I am toad

:17:14.:17:27.

told. Utterly amazing. Now you are with the BBC royal tea. What is next

:17:28.:17:34.

for you, has this open some doors? `` royalty. I am pitching other

:17:35.:17:42.

title sequences at this time. We wish you well. Thank you.

Leeds Rhinos against Castleford Tigers is not the only all

:17:53.:17:55.

Yorkshire Rugby League final taking place at Wembley on Saturday.

:17:56.:17:57.

There is a national schools title to be

:17:58.:17:59.

decided in the curtain raiser to the big game and it too features teams

:18:00.:18:02.

This is full`blooded, full`contact Rugby League.

:18:03.:18:13.

And this lot could claim to be the best school in Britain at it.

:18:14.:18:17.

They will be contesting the year seven champion school final

:18:18.:18:20.

in the curtain raiser to the challenge cup proper.

:18:21.:18:25.

It means the world to me because a lot

:18:26.:18:27.

of professionals haven't done this and I'm only 12 and I'm doing it.

:18:28.:18:30.

Doing what a lot of professionals want to do.

:18:31.:18:33.

I thought about it a couple of times and I'm proper nervous.

:18:34.:18:36.

It is the fifth time in nine years the Academy has sent

:18:37.:18:39.

Their year 10 girls are all conquering.

:18:40.:18:44.

But on Saturday the focus will be on these lads.

:18:45.:18:48.

The next time Oliver here kicks for goal it could be in front

:18:49.:18:51.

And coming in the opposite direction will be Brooksbank School.

:18:52.:18:56.

Just as determined, just as committed, just as nervous.

:18:57.:19:05.

When you run you will be very nervous

:19:06.:19:07.

We are playing at Wembley and we might be the best in Britain.

:19:08.:19:18.

There is just one more training session planned before the big game.

:19:19.:19:21.

But that's taking place behind closed doors.

:19:22.:19:26.

They will be running secret drills in an attempt to bamboozle

:19:27.:19:28.

While the game is yet to be decided, there is one outcome

:19:29.:19:33.

It will be coach Tim Webster's last in charge.

:19:34.:19:36.

He retired at the end of last term after 30 years with the school.

:19:37.:19:39.

The Ebor Festival gets underway at York Racecourse tomorrow.

:19:40.:19:51.

The four day event is expected to attract more than 80,000 people,

:19:52.:19:54.

But tomorrow all eyes will be on the Yorkshire trained horse, The Grey

:19:55.:20:00.

It will race against the winner of the English Derby in one

:20:01.:20:05.

of the richest ever races at York ` the Juddmonte International.

:20:06.:20:08.

Getting some much`needed rest in his stable at in Hambleton.

:20:09.:20:16.

Tomorrow he bids for the European crown at York racecourse.

:20:17.:20:19.

He is trained by former jockey Kevin Ryan who has been training

:20:20.:20:22.

It doesn't matter whether he is a sprinter, they need that natural

:20:23.:20:31.

He's got a great temperament, he's got a lot of speed and he stays.

:20:32.:20:43.

Kevin has had more than 40 wins at York Racecourse and tomorrow

:20:44.:20:50.

The Juddmonte International is the richest race at York but it is never

:20:51.:20:56.

I think for any trainer in Yorkshire this is a big week.

:20:57.:21:09.

You know there will be a lot of owners attending this meeting

:21:10.:21:12.

and we try to take the best horses to the meeting.

:21:13.:21:14.

There is no doubting this three`year`old's ability

:21:15.:21:16.

He's a great horse and a very quiet horse actually.

:21:17.:21:20.

All the time I take him racing and he has very good behaviour

:21:21.:21:23.

Around 80,000 people are expected at the four`day event.

:21:24.:21:28.

So let us hope that this old sport does Yorkshire proud.

:21:29.:21:40.

Mine was a Ford KA, but for a few months I learned to drive

:21:41.:21:52.

Well, they were once the laughing stock of the road.

:21:53.:22:01.

Designed with the french farmer in mind, the Citroen 2CV was used

:22:02.:22:07.

to transport anything from crates of eggs to actual livestock.

:22:08.:22:09.

They stopped being made in the 1990s but now a Bradford company

:22:10.:22:12.

It's started revamping old 2CVs and selling them back to the French.

:22:13.:22:16.

The car failed to the world in 1938 `` the car on unveiled. It became a

:22:17.:22:39.

design classic eventually. The flying dustbin, the upside`down

:22:40.:22:45.

pram, the upside`down snail. None of them complimentary but it is there

:22:46.:22:49.

to save the world was smitten when it came to the car. We had to say

:22:50.:22:55.

goodbye to them in 1990 but one company in Bradford have made it

:22:56.:22:58.

their mission to keep the love affair going. It builds and

:22:59.:23:08.

refurbishes the cars and it is so busy it cannot keep up with demand.

:23:09.:23:12.

One of its biggest customers are percent. Next week and one ship and

:23:13.:23:16.

it will send 30 across the Channel. They have not always been so

:23:17.:23:22.

popular. I liken them to Marmite. You either love them or you hate

:23:23.:23:26.

them. When I started the business I was ridiculed by other traders for

:23:27.:23:29.

doing them. Now the tables have turned a bit greedy and they are all

:23:30.:23:33.

saying, you were lucky to get into that in the first place. `` turned a

:23:34.:23:46.

bit really. Turnover is up by 40%. We are very busy with them. We have

:23:54.:24:01.

quirky looking vehicle. Designed in the late 1940s like the other car,

:24:02.:24:06.

the quirky bands are being used increasingly by fancy food stalls

:24:07.:24:09.

just perfect for those who want to stand out from the crowd. It was to

:24:10.:24:13.

look for a ban which would fit my ethos. The French ban provided the

:24:14.:24:22.

perfect thing for that so, it is completely accessorise a bowl and

:24:23.:24:28.

you can give it your personality and what you are doing. It is part of

:24:29.:24:32.

the family, really. Before you get too excited about taking a drive

:24:33.:24:36.

down memory lane you might have to start saving. The vans cost around

:24:37.:24:42.

?13,000 and the car, ten and a half thousand pounds. The company say

:24:43.:24:48.

there are on course to break all other poverty workers and we will

have to wait to see the if it happens. Oldest cars but quite

the forecast. Taken yesterday at Whitby Abbey. The second photograph

was taken, I think it has been tinkered with a little bit, and the

third was taken yesterday. Keep your photographs in. `` get. It has been

:25:41.:25:50.

a rather chilly out there and that is going to be a feature of the

:25:51.:25:54.

weather for the next four days. If you are camping at Leeds Festival

:25:55.:25:57.

will need to take an extra blanket because it looks quite chilly but

:25:58.:26:02.

tomorrow it will be largely dry. We continue to pull out down from the

:26:03.:26:06.

Arctic. You can see the ice coming down from the North. A lot of cloud

:26:07.:26:11.

on Thursday and patchy rain but there is some sunshine in between

:26:12.:26:14.

the showers on Friday. At the moment and we can does not look too bad.

:26:15.:26:18.

Some showers today. You can make out the shower clouds on the satellite

:26:19.:26:21.

picture from earlier. Still one or two knocking about. It is

:26:22.:26:26.

essentially a fine if a little bit chilly evening. The showers will die

:26:27.:26:31.

away over the next hour, leaving us with a 30 dry night of broken cloud.

:26:32.:26:34.

Temperatures much lower than they should be. Look at some of these. 6

:26:35.:26:39.

degrees or 7 degrees full stop perhaps even a little bit lower out

:26:40.:26:42.

in the countryside. Very chilly indeed. 9 degrees or 10 degrees in

:26:43.:26:46.

the towns and cities. The sun will rise at 553 AM. High water. It

:26:47.:26:55.

doesn't like a pleasant start to the day. It will be a mostly nice day,

:26:56.:27:00.

just a little bit nippy. In the sunshine the sun is still strong and

:27:01.:27:05.

warm. A cool breeze from the north`west and by the afternoon

:27:06.:27:07.

there could be the order, isolated shower. It is going to sit largely

:27:08.:27:13.

dry. Temperatures way below average though. We should be at this time of

:27:14.:27:18.

year, 21 degrees. Possibly spoiled by the height curvature so far this

:27:19.:27:21.

summer. 15 degrees or 16 degrees will feel nippy. Some showery rain

:27:22.:27:28.

on Thursday. Sunshine in between the showers on Friday. Take the next

:27:29.:27:36.

blanket if you are camping at the festival. Looking forward to that.

:27:37.:27:40.

We're back at 10:25pm good night.
