but it'll be turning quite breezy. Thank you very much. That's it. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Joy for Yorkshire as they whn the top title in English Crhcket | :00:00. | :00:10.
When you first start playing the Yorkshire you dream of thesd things. | :00:11. | :00:23.
It's up there with any Ashes win. We'll hear from some | :00:24. | :00:26.
of the victorious players. The shopkeepers preparing to close | :00:27. | :00:27.
their doors as Rotherham br`ces And an exclusive look | :00:28. | :00:32.
at the dogs being trained to keep our troops safe in one of the most | :00:33. | :00:38.
dangerous places in the world. I'll be back with the weathdr later | :00:39. | :00:50.
in the programme. Good evening and welcome to | :00:51. | :01:01.
Friday's Look North. And tonight there's | :01:02. | :01:04.
something to celebrate. Yorkshire have won the top title | :01:05. | :01:06.
in English cricket They needed just 67 minutes at | :01:07. | :01:09.
Trent Bridge to complete victory over Nottinghamshire and be crowned | :01:10. | :01:15.
this season's county champions. Tanya Arnold watched | :01:16. | :01:19.
the final wickets fall and is live there tonight where | :01:20. | :01:21.
celebrations are well underway. Absolutely. They sealed the title | :01:22. | :01:41.
just after 11:30am. They ard still here celebrating. In the middle of | :01:42. | :01:47.
that huddle there is the cup. We talked about winning the title back | :01:48. | :01:51.
in 2001. There was one playdr who was left from that squad. Hd was | :01:52. | :01:53.
playing today. He played a key part. I was a man on | :01:54. | :02:01.
a mission this morning, I w`nted to do well for the team and it was just | :02:02. | :02:04.
a case of going out there and trying Cometh the hour, | :02:05. | :02:08.
cometh Ryan Sidebottom. He took four of the five wickets | :02:09. | :02:11.
Yorkshire needed today, including the final one that clinched | :02:12. | :02:14.
the 2014 County Championship title. I think it?s been a wonderftl | :02:15. | :02:16.
team effort this season. Something that a lot | :02:17. | :02:22.
of people have worked very hard We've waited a little while | :02:23. | :02:39.
for this. A special time for the club | :02:40. | :02:42.
and I am sure we can all enjoy it. Come down from Leeds this morning, | :02:43. | :02:46.
first train. It's my special day out | :02:47. | :02:48.
for my wedding anniversary. Fantastic, we've won a trophy | :02:49. | :03:01.
and it's not raining. When you start playing for Xorkshire | :03:02. | :03:03.
you kind of dream To finally have one arrive, | :03:04. | :03:09.
I feel over the moon. It's up there with any Ashes win and | :03:10. | :03:13.
anything like that with England Just to win it is fantastic | :03:14. | :03:16.
but to make a big contribution to the sdason as | :03:17. | :03:22.
I have done is even more pldasing. Yes, thanks to everyone that | :03:23. | :03:27.
has helped me along the way. Friends, family, | :03:28. | :03:30.
coaches and obviously the players. And in the presidential | :03:31. | :03:34.
one`upmanship stakes, Dickie Bird has achieved solething | :03:35. | :03:38.
that Geoffrey Boycott never did He never won it | :03:39. | :03:40.
when he was president. My first term in office and I've won | :03:41. | :03:45.
the championship, but the l`ds said So I am going to have | :03:46. | :03:49.
a word with Geoffrey. I don't think it will. Marthn, you | :03:50. | :04:14.
have seen some ups and downs into your time. Our specialist this? Very | :04:15. | :04:18.
special. One of the highlights career if not the highlight. To have | :04:19. | :04:27.
the lads win the championshhp in the way they did, I think it's hs | :04:28. | :04:30.
showing the quality and the skill of the lads. I'm very proud of them. | :04:31. | :04:35.
Just seeing them out there, they are such a tight unit. I think nine of | :04:36. | :04:42.
the 11 playing in the game came through the academy system. It's a | :04:43. | :04:46.
fantastic achievement for the club. We've had a good afternoon. I'm very | :04:47. | :04:52.
impressed you are here and still articulate. I think it is f`ir to | :04:53. | :04:59.
say that Yorkshire might not exist without Colin Groves. I agrde. It's | :05:00. | :05:06.
exactly the case. He is dridd out now. He was a bit wet earlidr. The | :05:07. | :05:10.
lads have shown him how much appreciation we have for hil. He | :05:11. | :05:17.
supported me all my career. The time and energy he has put into the club | :05:18. | :05:20.
is unbelievable. We are delhghted for him. What a way to be thanked, | :05:21. | :05:27.
by being soaked in champagnd. I ll give them the cleaning bill. What | :05:28. | :05:35.
does it mean to you Colin. Ht is fantastic. I'm prepped for the lads | :05:36. | :05:41.
and for Martin. Everything he has done has been fantastic. To me he is | :05:42. | :05:44.
the one guy I wanted to win the championship. The year to h`ve nine | :05:45. | :05:49.
of the players coming through the academy, that's what you wanted as | :05:50. | :05:56.
net? Yes, it was one of Martin's ideas. We put the academy in the | :05:57. | :06:02.
Yorkshire league playing as a team. It has paid dividends. To sde them | :06:03. | :06:07.
come through, we have more pushing the places and it's fantasthc. Is | :06:08. | :06:11.
there any moment you might have walked away? No, not at all. UK mean | :06:12. | :06:20.
just before they went out of business? We were virtually on our | :06:21. | :06:29.
way out. It's been a great journey. We were not think 12 years `go. Now | :06:30. | :06:34.
we own this ground and have a lot of things to look forward to. We're | :06:35. | :06:40.
going to do it again next ydar. Thank you for joining us. Wdll done. | :06:41. | :06:55.
More than 1,000 extra officdrs will be on the streets of Rotherham | :06:56. | :06:58.
tomorrow to police a protest by the English Defence Leagte. | :06:59. | :07:01.
The far right group is demonstrating against the child abuse scandal | :07:02. | :07:05.
They EDL says 5,000 people will be there, the police put the fhgure | :07:06. | :07:10.
Meanwhile some shop owners `re saying it's damaging business, | :07:11. | :07:14.
In the shadow of the police station, the English Defence League `re | :07:15. | :07:28.
making their presence felt. They said they won't dismantle the camp | :07:29. | :07:34.
until the Police and Crime Commissioner resigns. Tomorrow they | :07:35. | :07:36.
predict thousands more of the members will join them. As Roger | :07:37. | :07:43.
behind you. I think so yes. I don't think the Muslims are behind us | :07:44. | :07:48.
obviously. A few of the loc`ls are not either. South Yorkshire Police | :07:49. | :07:55.
haven't put a figure on the cost of policing tomorrow's demonstration. | :07:56. | :07:57.
But as the crash barriers arrived they are still repairing for one and | :07:58. | :08:08.
a half thousand people. The dynamics could be very different. We have | :08:09. | :08:12.
been working with the organhsers from different groups and understand | :08:13. | :08:17.
their responsibilities. There is no suggestion there will be disorder. | :08:18. | :08:21.
But we have to prepare for ht. There are dozens of small traders on the | :08:22. | :08:25.
high Street. Now, they have decisions to make. This delhcatessen | :08:26. | :08:30.
has only been open for five months and this is the second time they've | :08:31. | :08:35.
had to deal with a demonstr`tion. It's really annoying becausd | :08:36. | :08:38.
everybody is trying so hard to bring this town back to life. We keep | :08:39. | :08:43.
getting knocked back. That hs one of the reasons why we will stax open. | :08:44. | :08:48.
Right across the street, different call. We will lose about 90$ of our | :08:49. | :08:55.
Saturday turnover. It makes the decision to close very easy. There | :08:56. | :09:00.
are large issues involved. But at the same time it would be mtch | :09:01. | :09:03.
better if the protest wasn't in the centre of town. On lamp posts | :09:04. | :09:10.
nearby, there is evidence the EDL are determined to use this gamble to | :09:11. | :09:14.
recruit. One community group in the town proposes a different show of | :09:15. | :09:19.
unity next weekend. We are coming out with a united multiculttral | :09:20. | :09:24.
demonstration. The whole colmunity is coming out and standing for | :09:25. | :09:30.
justice for 1400. These flags won't be coming down any time soon. Rather | :09:31. | :09:36.
may try to move on but now DDL are staying put. | :09:37. | :09:40.
The father of a grooming victim is askhng why | :09:41. | :09:43.
Ofsted gave Rotherham Counchl's children's services a clean bill | :09:44. | :09:45.
It's one of the subjects being discussed | :09:46. | :09:48.
on Sunday Politics, which rdturns for a new series this weekend. | :09:49. | :09:51.
Tim Iredale, the programme's presenter, joins us now. | :09:52. | :09:59.
Tim, offstage role in managhng this services has been discussed. Should | :10:00. | :10:06.
they shoulder the blame? Well as well as inspecting schools they are | :10:07. | :10:11.
also responsible are keeping an eye on children's services. Manx MPs | :10:12. | :10:16.
asking why Roger was given ` clean bill of health when it came to the | :10:17. | :10:20.
care of vulnerable children when we know there were problems. That's one | :10:21. | :10:29.
of the issues we will be discussing. You are also talking about the | :10:30. | :10:36.
Scottish referendum. I think whatever happens in next wedk's | :10:37. | :10:41.
referendum, there will be growing calls for English regions, hncluding | :10:42. | :10:45.
Yorkshire, to have more devolved power away from Westminster. That's | :10:46. | :10:51.
borne out by a survey that came out today. It shows a growing ntmber of | :10:52. | :10:55.
Yorkshire folk want some form of Parliament or assembly for our | :10:56. | :11:00.
religion. I don't think we `re quite talking about a home rule, | :11:01. | :11:06.
independence Yorkshire. It's an interesting talking point. | :11:07. | :11:11.
We meet the Yorkshire troops who guard Britain's base in Afghanistan | :11:12. | :11:16.
In other news now, and a 70`year`old man from South Yorkshire has been | :11:17. | :11:26.
man's Vauxhall Astra colliddd with a Renault Clio at Chapel St Ldonards, | :11:27. | :11:33.
He died at the scene, along with the driver and a passenger in the Clio. | :11:34. | :11:39.
Police have not yet named the victims. | :11:40. | :11:42.
The funeral has taken place of a University of Leeds sttdent who | :11:43. | :11:45.
died in the Malaysian Airline's crash in Ukraine. | :11:46. | :11:48.
Richard Mayne was among nearly 00 people killed in the disastdr. | :11:49. | :11:52.
He'd been travelling to Australia to begin a work placement. | :11:53. | :11:54.
Hundreds of family members and friends filled | :11:55. | :11:57.
a church close to his childhood home for the funeral service. | :11:58. | :12:02.
Plans have been unveiled to tackle a shortage of affordable holes | :12:03. | :12:05.
The council says there's a "housing crisis", as many pdople | :12:06. | :12:09.
born and raised in the city can t afford their own home. | :12:10. | :12:12.
They say around 17,000 new houses should be | :12:13. | :12:15.
There are also plans for a lajor upgrade of the city's roads. | :12:16. | :12:21.
It's estimated the proposals will help to create | :12:22. | :12:25.
Now to the third of our special reports from | :12:26. | :12:32.
One of the many surprising things I learned during our trip there was | :12:33. | :12:37.
that the security of the base is in the hands of the RAF, nalely 34 | :12:38. | :12:40.
Squadron of the RAF Regiment and they are based at Leeming. | :12:41. | :12:43.
The job they do means they're on the front line keeping | :12:44. | :12:46.
the base safe right up until the handover to the Afghan | :12:47. | :12:49.
And that could be on the ground or from the air. They | :12:50. | :12:54.
are, as Harry found out, an incredibly brave group | :12:55. | :12:57.
This is as far as I am allowed to go. This is the outer perimdter of | :12:58. | :13:11.
Camp Bastion. The defence of the base is entrusted to the RAF. They | :13:12. | :13:19.
are responsible for the sectrity in towers like this. In small groups | :13:20. | :13:25.
the regiment camped here for two weeks at a time. 24 hours a day | :13:26. | :13:30.
constant surveillance needed. Patrols beyond the perimeter. They | :13:31. | :13:38.
are literally at the edge of it all. We have various tasks. We'rd out on | :13:39. | :13:43.
the ground ensuring the aircraft can come in and out safely. The also | :13:44. | :13:51.
take up defensive positions in the towers and go out on various foot | :13:52. | :13:57.
patrols to engage with the locals. Again, to deter the enemy from | :13:58. | :14:01.
pushing to close. In the thhck of it, a lad from Bradford. We usually | :14:02. | :14:08.
go out about four times a d`y. We do perimeter check the fences `nd then | :14:09. | :14:15.
a secondary check on the earth that is built up around the base. We also | :14:16. | :14:25.
get called out from towers. They give us a call and we go straight | :14:26. | :14:26.
out. Break`out by 34 Squadron. Any time, | :14:27. | :14:37.
day or night, they might have to do this. This is what they are trained | :14:38. | :14:45.
for. Watching the Taliban, watching them, watching us. Then the lads are | :14:46. | :14:54.
thinking about where they are going on travel trips. Surveillance these | :14:55. | :15:03.
days is costly. But different. This is an unmanned air vehicle. The | :15:04. | :15:08.
pictures are astonishing. Wd can't show the real ones but I can tell | :15:09. | :15:13.
you this, how it is controlled. It's flown on a ?3 at `` machine | :15:14. | :15:23.
controlled by the GPS. The reason we use Xbox controllers is bec`use | :15:24. | :15:27.
people already know how to tse them back home. It's my job to look after | :15:28. | :15:32.
the assets. And to look into certain grades. We are looking to stspicious | :15:33. | :15:40.
activity or certain hotspots that we may be worried about. Everyone on | :15:41. | :15:48.
the base has to carry a gun. There are no exceptions. This is because | :15:49. | :15:55.
zeroing. Making the weapon shoot straight. By the regiment is not | :15:56. | :15:59.
here at the moment, it is rdady to deploy. We are based in Cyprus. My | :16:00. | :16:09.
job is, I've been detached to provide a link back to Cyprts. If | :16:10. | :16:15.
things were to go wrong herd and we were needed, I would supply the link | :16:16. | :16:23.
back. When Camp Bastion does closed there is going to be a piecd of | :16:24. | :16:32.
Yorkshire here for all time. This product has helped to protect our | :16:33. | :16:39.
troops. Mile upon mile of these It's just a bad time to leave, but | :16:40. | :16:44.
when we do, it will be done in the right way. | :16:45. | :16:51.
And a little later on the programme we will be meeting | :16:52. | :16:54.
the canine defenders of Camp Bastion ` the military working dogs. | :16:55. | :16:58.
Find out exactly how much this world record`breaking carrot weighs. | :16:59. | :17:08.
And behind the scenes with the dogs trained to sniff ott danger | :17:09. | :17:11.
Boxing, and Kell Brook is b`ck at home in Sheffield recovering | :17:12. | :17:22.
Brook, who became IBF World Welterweight Champion in August was | :17:23. | :17:28.
stabbed while on a night out in the early hours of last Thursday. | :17:29. | :17:32.
It has emerged that he was `ttacked by someone using a machete | :17:33. | :17:36.
and reports suggest the main wound is around 12 inches long. | :17:37. | :17:39.
His left leg is now in plaster, and details of how long | :17:40. | :17:42.
his wounds may take to heal are unlikely to emerge for a few weeks. | :17:43. | :17:49.
It's now two weeks since Dave Hockaday was sacked as Leeds | :17:50. | :17:52.
United head coach, and therd's still no sign of a permanent repl`cement. | :17:53. | :17:54.
That means academy boss Neil Redfearn takes charge `gain | :17:55. | :17:57.
for tomorrow's lunchtime kick`off against Birmingham City. | :17:58. | :18:01.
And he says despite the uncdrtainty, he's confident about | :18:02. | :18:04.
I've had six years at this club We've got it to a stage where it in | :18:05. | :18:19.
a real good position. It is developing. There are kids hn the | :18:20. | :18:24.
first team. It's the tip of the iceberg. Underneath we have kids who | :18:25. | :18:28.
are just as good if not better. At the moment we are sitting on a gold | :18:29. | :18:33.
mine regarding young talent coming through. I'm very enthusiastic about | :18:34. | :18:34.
that. This weekend it's the final round | :18:35. | :18:36.
of regular matches, which sorts out More importantly, it decides who you | :18:37. | :18:40.
face in the play`offs next week Castleford Tigers travel to France | :18:41. | :18:44.
to play Catalans tomorrow. Their fantastic year could still | :18:45. | :18:46.
bring them the League Leaders Shield, depending on St Heldns' | :18:47. | :18:49.
result at Huddersfield tonight. It's on over the weekend, and this | :18:50. | :18:58.
year's warm Summer has been great It is the season of mists and fruit. | :18:59. | :19:36.
It can only be the Harrogatd Autumn flower show. We have a bonanza of | :19:37. | :19:42.
prudence, barrowload of veg and inspirational for the smalldst of | :19:43. | :19:46.
plants. Welcome to inspirathon Street. It's the home of a show | :19:47. | :19:53.
stopping frontages. Don't worry about mowing the lawn, its fate | :19:54. | :19:58.
This recycled garden made bx groundwork in Normanton won a gold | :19:59. | :20:02.
medal. It's lanterns are recycled from discarded Leeds festiv`l tents. | :20:03. | :20:09.
Front gardens can be neglected. People tend to look at the back | :20:10. | :20:16.
garden. The front garden is not just the place with dustbins. It's the | :20:17. | :20:19.
first thing people see when they come to your property. We w`nted to | :20:20. | :20:23.
celebrate that by bringing hn colour and structure. That is nearly big | :20:24. | :20:33.
enough to harass this beast. As usual, the giant veg is pulling in | :20:34. | :20:38.
the punters. Meet Joe Atherton, Barrera built Britain's biggest | :20:39. | :20:46.
bean. You don't need plenty of feet, just plenty of water. Here hs a new | :20:47. | :20:54.
world champion. A ?20 capit`l. The heaviest `` the heaviest evdr | :20:55. | :20:55.
recorded on earth. This is a tremendous jump for me. | :20:56. | :21:09.
The habit, the glorious mixture of method and madness that is the | :21:10. | :21:10.
flower show. During our visit to Camp Bastion | :21:11. | :21:21.
last week we met many incredible But we could not leave without | :21:22. | :21:24.
meeting the canine members military working dogs fulfil | :21:25. | :21:27.
a vital role both in protecting the base, and also helping soldiers | :21:28. | :21:31.
when they're on patrol. Here's what happened | :21:32. | :21:33.
when I went to see them trahn. Look at that control. The work it | :21:34. | :21:47.
takes many different forms but the role of the is very important. We | :21:48. | :21:55.
are going to give you a bit of a snapshot into what they do here | :21:56. | :22:01.
There are over 30 military dogs in Camp Bastion. Their training is | :22:02. | :22:05.
intense and very impressive to watch. They are used virtually every | :22:06. | :22:09.
day. One of our main roles hs to keep people safe, to ensure people | :22:10. | :22:17.
are searched and not bringing any explosives into the camp. The dogs | :22:18. | :22:24.
are well luck after. My job here is to make sure the dogs stay happy and | :22:25. | :22:32.
healthy. I work with the vet to look after the whole fleet of dogs to | :22:33. | :22:36.
make sure we give them prevdntative health care. Here at Camp B`stion | :22:37. | :22:44.
there is a zero tolerance towards drugs. We've gathered this line of | :22:45. | :22:50.
dubious cat tours. One of us is carrying something we shouldn't The | :22:51. | :22:51.
dog will tell us which one. It's me. Clearly he doesn't like | :22:52. | :23:13.
yellow. And then there is try. He can like that ammunition, | :23:14. | :23:21.
explosives. We use the wall to train the dog is an new sounds. Wd hide | :23:22. | :23:25.
tiny pieces of explosives in the wall. The dog will sniff and | :23:26. | :23:37.
indicate. Many moments wherd, just take a look at these. You'vd been a | :23:38. | :23:48.
brilliant interviewee, well done. Set. Set. Sit. Look at the control I | :23:49. | :24:03.
have. The whole aspect of Camp Bastion is | :24:04. | :24:20.
so professional. Thank you to the MoD forgiveness the chance to film | :24:21. | :24:31.
there. There is an increased risk of showers. A bit misty and murky to | :24:32. | :24:37.
start but brightening up. Let's take a look at some | :24:38. | :24:49.
photographs before we get on with the fire | :24:50. | :25:01.
The cloud a little bit more extensive on Sunday. After ` great | :25:02. | :25:32.
start tomorrow, it looks like a dry and bright day. There is a small | :25:33. | :25:37.
risk of the odd shower but lost places enjoying fine weather. It's | :25:38. | :25:42.
all down to this area of high pressure keeping our weather pattern | :25:43. | :25:47.
settled for the time being. A little bit more unsettled for Mond`y and | :25:48. | :25:51.
Tuesday but that pressure could gold towards the end of the week. This is | :25:52. | :25:56.
the satellite picture from darlier on. You can see how the clotd has | :25:57. | :26:02.
broken up. Most of us have seen some right sunny spells. A decent and | :26:03. | :26:10.
fine end to the day. There will be a light breeze overnight. Somd mist | :26:11. | :26:20.
and fog. Some low cloud, too. Temperatures, generally staxing in | :26:21. | :26:25.
double figures. Some parts of the Pennines made it back to single | :26:26. | :26:29.
figures. The summarised in the morning at six 35 AM. | :26:30. | :26:38.
Tomorrow morning, a bit of ` grey starting place is particularly | :26:39. | :26:45.
central and eastern parts. Ht will brighten. A small risk of isolated | :26:46. | :26:49.
showers but most places dry with broken cloud and sunny spells in the | :26:50. | :26:53.
afternoon. Temperature is about average for this time of ye`r. | :26:54. | :26:59.
Getting into the high teens, around 17, 18 or 19 Celsius. | :27:00. | :27:07.
Congratulations to Yorkshird. I think we are going to celebrate | :27:08. | :27:15.
