The headlines tonight: - so it's goodbye from me - | :00:00. | :00:13.
Hunting for hidden weapons, West Midlands Police search parks | :00:14. | :00:15.
and open land in an attempt to tackle knife crime. | :00:16. | :00:17.
The work we are doing today and this week, it is imperative to rdmove | :00:18. | :00:24.
dangerous weapons from the streets. I am in Dudley, where there have | :00:25. | :00:28.
been three stabbings in the space of one week and one man has lost his | :00:29. | :00:30.
life. Also tonight: The new borns | :00:31. | :00:31.
being given a baby box - a simple way to reduce infant | :00:32. | :00:34.
mortality. I thought a baby in a box is made | :00:35. | :00:43.
but when you look at it, thdre is nothing for him to suffocatd on it | :00:44. | :00:46.
is comfortable and he is enjoying it. | :00:47. | :00:47.
an increase in the number of wild animals being kept as pets , | :00:48. | :00:51.
The pioneers of early cinem` - how the silver screen was shaped | :00:52. | :00:55.
And even cloudy days can create impressive results. | :00:56. | :00:59.
We lacked sun today but there's hope for better tomorrow | :01:00. | :01:01.
Knife crime is a growing problem across the Midlands. | :01:02. | :01:17.
On average, there are 180 offences a month involving a knife in | :01:18. | :01:21.
In September, that figure reached 187. | :01:22. | :01:27.
In the last year, there havd been 11 murders using a knife. | :01:28. | :01:32.
Now, the police are searching parks and open-land | :01:33. | :01:34.
It's thought criminals are using the areas to keep | :01:35. | :01:37.
Beside a children's park in Aston, police officers | :01:38. | :01:44.
There will be searchers in parks in the Birmingham area in the last | :01:45. | :01:57.
couple of days and we found a large kitchen knife under a bush `nd a | :01:58. | :02:01.
smaller nice as well. Not discarded but hidden | :02:02. | :02:03.
for safe-keeping - West Midlands Police believd areas | :02:04. | :02:05.
of open land are the playground So they can have access to them in | :02:06. | :02:14.
the future if they need to get them for any illicit purposes. Btt also | :02:15. | :02:17.
to disassociate themselves from any previous offending they havd done | :02:18. | :02:18.
before. Look what else they turned tp | :02:19. | :02:20.
during Operation Sceptre, a national police campaign | :02:21. | :02:22.
to tackle knife crime. And judging by incidents in recent | :02:23. | :02:24.
weeks, some say West Midlands Police Police have named a man who died | :02:25. | :02:38.
after being stabbed in the stomach at the weekend. A 19-year-old man | :02:39. | :02:42.
has been charged with murder after a fatal stabbing outside a Birmingham | :02:43. | :02:47.
off-licence... Here, in broad daylight, on Saturday | :02:48. | :02:52.
afternoon, a 24-year-old man was stabbed and later died from his | :02:53. | :02:56.
injuries. It was the third stabbing in Dudley Borough in the sp`ce of | :02:57. | :03:00.
just eight days. Whilst polhce say these incidents are rare, it does | :03:01. | :03:04.
not stop people living here being any less concerned. It is ftll. | :03:05. | :03:09.
People are frightened to cole out. It is just really bad. Not feeling | :03:10. | :03:19.
safer. It is bad, you just wonder what has caused it. | :03:20. | :03:20.
DCI Ian Parnell is the West Midlands top cop for bringing knife | :03:21. | :03:23.
There were three stabbings hn Birmingham over the last eight days, | :03:24. | :03:33.
three stabbings in Dudley over a week, one of which was fatal, have | :03:34. | :03:39.
you got a handle on this? Those individual offences are dev`stating | :03:40. | :03:43.
to the families involved and our sympathy goes out to them. Ht | :03:44. | :03:45.
highlights that the work we are doing today and this week is | :03:46. | :03:47.
imperative to remove dangerous weapons from the streets. Wdapons | :03:48. | :03:52.
like the so-called zombie knife no band. Altogether, over the four | :03:53. | :03:57.
police forces in this region, violent crime, not just including | :03:58. | :04:02.
knife offences, has risen bx 28 on the previous year. Police, however, | :04:03. | :04:06.
are keen to reassure, saying that in most places it is not randol. The | :04:07. | :04:10.
attacker is known to the victim And Ben Godfrey is in | :04:11. | :04:12.
Brierley Hill this evening. Ben, what else are the police doing | :04:13. | :04:15.
during Operation Spectre? Firstly, police tonight sayhng | :04:16. | :04:19.
people should not be unduly alarmed by the increase in violent crime, | :04:20. | :04:21.
partly because they've changed Operation Sceptre | :04:22. | :04:23.
is certainly timely. It's also about monitoring | :04:24. | :04:30.
the sale of knives. -- the illegal sale of knivds to | :04:31. | :04:37.
young people. Earlier this week, working | :04:38. | :04:41.
with Trading Standards, police did test purchases of knives | :04:42. | :04:42.
with a volunteer 16-year-old boy - four shops sold him blades | :04:43. | :04:45.
and received warnings. Those shopkeepers have sincd been | :04:46. | :04:55.
warned and they are going to continue that operation, evdn though | :04:56. | :04:59.
there are these investigations going on as well. | :05:00. | :05:02.
We heard in your report that people in Dudley are concerned abott this | :05:03. | :05:05.
sudden rise in stabbings. What more do we know about these incidents? | :05:06. | :05:14.
To clarify, there were thred stabbings in Sedgley, or go more and | :05:15. | :05:19.
here, a fatal one, there ard flowers behind me. Police say they `re not | :05:20. | :05:24.
connected. The investigation into the murder is ongoing. One line of | :05:25. | :05:28.
inquiry is that it may have been as a result of a dispute over drugs. | :05:29. | :05:33.
Dudley Council is working closely with detectives and officers, with | :05:34. | :05:36.
West Midlands Police, going into schools, educating young people | :05:37. | :05:46.
about the consequences of c`rrying a knife. I am told that particular | :05:47. | :05:48.
scheme will be stepped up. Those expect stabbings in Birmingham, a | :05:49. | :05:51.
local councillor has said that he thinks police should get support | :05:52. | :05:55.
from the wider community and it is about parents and carers having | :05:56. | :05:57.
difficult conversations with their young children. | :05:58. | :06:02.
OK, Ben, thank you. Apologids for the behaviour in the background of | :06:03. | :06:03.
that report. It seems like a simple idea, | :06:04. | :06:05.
but it could save lives. Sandwell General and Birmingham City | :06:06. | :06:08.
Hospital are to become the first in the region to trial a new scheme | :06:09. | :06:10.
to help prevent cot death. They're going to give | :06:11. | :06:13.
all new mums a baby box. The boxes are made from verx thick | :06:14. | :06:16.
cardboard, contain a foam m`ttress and the design helps | :06:17. | :06:19.
to prevent babies from rollhng They've been used in Finland | :06:20. | :06:21.
for nearly 80 years, and have helped reduce infant | :06:22. | :06:27.
mortality rates dramaticallx. Three week old Logan is 17-xear old | :06:28. | :06:29.
Alisha's precious first born... I thought a baby in a box is made | :06:30. | :06:48.
but when you look at it, thdre is nothing for him to suffocatd on it | :06:49. | :06:52.
is comfortable for him and obviously he is enjoying it. | :06:53. | :06:59.
The boxes are free and have been given out by Sandwell and Wdst | :07:00. | :07:04.
There, boxes have been handdd out to excpectant mums | :07:05. | :07:16.
there since the 1930s and h`ve helped reduce infact mortalhty rates | :07:17. | :07:20.
From over 60 per 1002 two pdr 1 00 today. The name stuck out, such a | :07:21. | :07:32.
cute girly name. This baby left for just 17 days, and her mother says | :07:33. | :07:37.
she did not even know that babies go to die suddenly and inexplicably. | :07:38. | :07:43.
Losing Lola has probably made me one of Britain's most angriest | :07:44. | :07:47.
teenagers. I am so angry at people. Not because I think it is their | :07:48. | :07:53.
fault but... Because why did they not stop it from happening? She is | :07:54. | :07:58.
expecting again, this time ht is a boy and he will be taking a baby | :07:59. | :08:02.
box. As though all new mothdrs giving birth at a city hosphtal from | :08:03. | :08:06.
November. But only after thdy have signed up with this card to watch 12 | :08:07. | :08:13.
short videos. They are going to have to watch video clips about | :08:14. | :08:16.
breast-feeding, safer sleep, alcohol, drugs and maternal mental | :08:17. | :08:19.
health and then they will bd able to get the box. So these are issues you | :08:20. | :08:25.
feel are relevant? Yes, thex're public health messages that we need | :08:26. | :08:32.
to get across to women. It seems amazing. Something so littld and | :08:33. | :08:35.
simple could potentially save hundreds of children's lives. No | :08:36. | :08:38.
targets have been set. Organisers say is the baby box is the just one | :08:39. | :08:44.
life it will have been worth it -- saves just one life. | :08:45. | :08:48.
The University of Nottinghal has asked for a full report | :08:49. | :08:50.
from its Students Union, after a pub crawl team appe`red | :08:51. | :08:52.
to dress up as victims of the Alton Tower's Smiler | :08:53. | :08:55.
The students made their fancy dress outfits for the annual | :08:56. | :08:59.
fundraising event, and posed for photos | :09:00. | :09:01.
They've apologised unreservddly to the teenagers who had | :09:02. | :09:04.
legs amputated following last year's crash. | :09:05. | :09:12.
I think what a lot of other people think, that they were trying to | :09:13. | :09:19.
persuade... They came out s`ying it was a traditional costume. Ht is not | :09:20. | :09:23.
traditional to have mutated legs attached to it. It was asked if | :09:24. | :09:29.
people thought it was offensive or not, a simple yes or no, and over | :09:30. | :09:32.
70% thought was. West Midlands Fire Service believe | :09:33. | :09:36.
a fire at a Wolverhampton industrial More than 70 firefighters wdre sent | :09:37. | :09:39.
to Clearwater Industrial Estate on Eccleshall Road on Tuesd`y | :09:40. | :09:42.
evening. One unit was completely destroyed, | :09:43. | :09:43.
along with two vans. DEFRA has confirmed the badger cull | :09:44. | :09:46.
across parts of Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Dorset | :09:47. | :09:48.
has ended for this year. Seven new licences were granted | :09:49. | :09:50.
by the government for the 2016 cull, with almost 10,000 | :09:51. | :09:53.
animals due to be killed. It's part of a 25-year strategy | :09:54. | :09:55.
aimed at eradicating Bovine TB. The Environment Agency is urging | :09:56. | :10:08.
home owners and businesses in Worcester to stop disposhng | :10:09. | :10:10.
of oil and fuel in an unsafd way. They say its officers have dealt | :10:11. | :10:13.
with a number of incidents in the last few weeks, | :10:14. | :10:16.
where oil has polluted the Worcester A two-mile stretch of the w`terway | :10:17. | :10:18.
has been affected and seven swans needed treatment | :10:19. | :10:22.
from animal rescue groups. Taxi drivers have been staghng | :10:23. | :10:25.
a go-slow in Wolverhampton city The private hire drivers | :10:26. | :10:28.
are angry at the council, Kevin Reide is there this evening, | :10:29. | :10:33.
so Kevin how many cars took part? Well, there were about 100 cars | :10:34. | :10:50.
proceeding along one of the main routes into the city centre and then | :10:51. | :10:54.
they drove around the ring road in a procession that lasted from about | :10:55. | :10:58.
4pm until 6pm. The Council say that it caused minimum disruption to the | :10:59. | :11:02.
rush-hour traffic and the Council say the drivers were merely doing | :11:03. | :11:05.
this because they want to h`rness trade for themselves and do not want | :11:06. | :11:10.
new drivers to come on-board. They also say that the tests havd | :11:11. | :11:13.
deliberately modernised. We have refocused on the tr`ining | :11:14. | :11:22.
that we do require drivers to do. That is already very robust but it | :11:23. | :11:26.
now has aspects of child sexual exploitation awareness and other | :11:27. | :11:31.
wider issues concerning safeguarding. Well, Abraham is the | :11:32. | :11:39.
chairman of the Wolverhampton weather drivers Association. Why are | :11:40. | :11:47.
you hosting these? The reason we have this protest is becausd there | :11:48. | :11:52.
is no more topographical knowledge test. There is no driving assessment | :11:53. | :11:56.
test, no practical test, no nothing. But is that any of your bushness as | :11:57. | :12:04.
the council are satisfied that their procedures are correct for the right | :12:05. | :12:08.
type of drivers? It is part of business, because the drivers coming | :12:09. | :12:11.
out now that the assessment, the driving assessment and topographical | :12:12. | :12:13.
knowledge test, they do not know what they are doing. It givds a bad | :12:14. | :12:18.
name to the professional drhvers who already exist. But why does that | :12:19. | :12:22.
affect you? It does because we all get a bad name them. As customers | :12:23. | :12:28.
get a poor service, lack of public safety... And the council h`s | :12:29. | :12:34.
invited you to meetings. Yot have not attended them all, have you We | :12:35. | :12:40.
have been to quite a few medtings. We have given them the petition We | :12:41. | :12:45.
ask them to take the test -, make the test astringent. OK, I `m going | :12:46. | :12:49.
to have to stop either. Thex are planning further disruption as this | :12:50. | :12:55.
dispute with the council gods on. Back to you. | :12:56. | :12:55.
OK, thank you. A wildlife sanctuary | :12:56. | :12:58.
in Staffordshire is being inundated In the last year, the Gentldshaw | :12:59. | :13:00.
Centre in Eccleshall, has seen a dramatic rise | :13:01. | :13:03.
in the number of abandoned It's created a waiting list | :13:04. | :13:06.
after referrals quadrupled. His neighborus include chimps, | :13:07. | :13:09.
monkeys, wild cats and the slowest Our love for unusual | :13:10. | :13:16.
pets is on the rise, with 40% more exotic animal | :13:17. | :13:26.
licences issued last year in the West Midlands | :13:27. | :13:30.
than a decade ago. But for the Gentleshaw Wildlife | :13:31. | :13:39.
Centre in Eccleshall, an increase in the number | :13:40. | :13:41.
of creatures being neglected or abandonned means they're busier | :13:42. | :13:43.
than ever. We have had to set up new bhrd | :13:44. | :13:53.
enclosures, we have got anilals on a waiting westward into common. We | :13:54. | :13:57.
cannot keep up with the dem`nd. With things like social media, it is | :13:58. | :14:02.
relatively easy to get hold of breeders and the present have | :14:03. | :14:05.
dropped and there are no regulations so you can buy whatever anilal you | :14:06. | :14:07.
fancy. Records show that in the last | :14:08. | :14:08.
decade local authorities in the West Midlands have issued | :14:09. | :14:10.
more than 160 exotic Some of the species listed | :14:11. | :14:13.
as pets include wild boar, With a population of residents | :14:14. | :14:16.
outgrowing their number of cages the wildlife centre needs to find | :14:17. | :14:20.
long term solutions. Homes like the one belonging | :14:21. | :14:25.
to the expanding Hargrave Mum, Dad, seven-year-old Jaxden | :14:26. | :14:27.
and one-year-old Ava. Plus one dog, four cats, | :14:28. | :14:34.
a bearded dragon and three snakes, including the latest addition | :14:35. | :14:38.
adopted from Gentleshaw. We have got the space and wd know | :14:39. | :14:50.
what we are doing. So we will take him on. You would not have ` child | :14:51. | :14:54.
and then just leave them with nothing, so why do it to an animal? | :14:55. | :14:59.
If you take on the responsibility of an animal, you are taking on the | :15:00. | :15:02.
responsibility of another lhving being so you make sure they are fed | :15:03. | :15:10.
and watered. I am definitelx one of those that you have an anim`l for | :15:11. | :15:13.
life and if you cannot offer it a home for life then you need to think | :15:14. | :15:16.
about whether you are going to take on or not. | :15:17. | :15:18.
With food, water, warmth and affection all this repthle needs | :15:19. | :15:20.

Bringing boxing back to Birlingham. A city are gaining its reputation in | :15:40. | :15:42.
the ring. And forget Hollywood, how the | :15:43. | :15:45.
Midland helped shape the early years of cinema. | :15:46. | :15:50.
Tackling childhood obesity is becoming | :15:51. | :15:51.
Nearly 40% of children across the city aged ten | :15:52. | :15:59.
and 11 are overweight, compared with around | :16:00. | :16:01.
That means the number of chhldren in year six who are classed | :16:02. | :16:05.
as overweight or obese, has increased from 908 to ndarly | :16:06. | :16:07.
Health experts are going back to basics, and have introduced | :16:08. | :16:15.
a new scheme to get children interested in growing | :16:16. | :16:17.
Laura May McMullan has been finding out more. | :16:18. | :16:28.
Ten-year-old Shannon and her classmates love | :16:29. | :16:29.
Today, after picking these `pples, they'll be making an apple crumble. | :16:30. | :16:36.
I like it when we take it ott of the soil and cook it | :16:37. | :16:40.
because we know it's more fresh than the supermarkets. | :16:41. | :16:45.
We enjoy planning and growing | :16:46. | :16:47.
And that's the school's main aim by working with the Soil | :16:48. | :16:52.
Forest Park Primary in Stoke-on-Trent is one of 49 | :16:53. | :17:08.
schools across the city who've introduced the 'Food | :17:09. | :17:10.
If they start early, when they get to secondary school, | :17:11. | :17:13.
they can make an informed choice, make a better choice and th`t's | :17:14. | :17:16.
going to be better for their lives and what they're going | :17:17. | :17:19.
Quite a lot of the children didn't know what vegetables | :17:20. | :17:22.
were when we first started this project and with them growing them | :17:23. | :17:25.
in their own garden, they learnt what vegetables are | :17:26. | :17:27.
what they're for and they'vd learnt how to cook them. | :17:28. | :17:31.
A small step, perhaps, to tackling a huge problem. | :17:32. | :17:36.
Experts say they're facing a childhood obesity epidemic. | :17:37. | :17:44.
Up to two thirds of children are obese or overweight | :17:45. | :17:46.
Obviously this is a really big concern for public health | :17:47. | :17:50.
because if children are overweight at that age it's likely | :17:51. | :17:53.
to carry on into adulthood, and that gives range to a whole | :17:54. | :17:56.
Here in Stoke-on-Trent, the percentage of overweight | :17:57. | :18:04.
and obese children is higher than the national | :18:05. | :18:06.
That's why programmes like this are vital in helping to change | :18:07. | :18:13.
pupils perceptions to eating healthy food. | :18:14. | :18:20.
We're eating a lot more vegdtables, cutting down on sugar and e`ting | :18:21. | :18:23.
It gives us brain knowledge and it makes our bones | :18:24. | :18:27.
These children have just won a Food for Life Award - | :18:28. | :18:32.
and will hopefully now pass on their passion for good food, | :18:33. | :18:35.
Dan's here with the sport, and fans of boxing are lookhng | :18:36. | :18:48.
forward to a big bout this weekend in the Midlands. | :18:49. | :18:55.
For many years, boxing in Birmingham was struggling. | :18:56. | :18:59.
Promoters stayed away after trouble at a world title | :19:00. | :19:01.
But now the city is a force in the sport once again | :19:02. | :19:05.
and on Saturday night, two of Birmingham's best fighters | :19:06. | :19:07.
will go head to head in front of a packed crowd. | :19:08. | :19:10.
When there is a fight like this with so much local pride on the line | :19:11. | :19:24.
bragging rights, both guys have sold a lot of tickets, desperate to win, | :19:25. | :19:26.
you can only see a great fight. Now, it's hardly a surprise to hear | :19:27. | :19:30.
a promoter talk up a boxing bill but the massive interest in this | :19:31. | :19:33.
press conference suggest More than 6,000 tickets havd | :19:34. | :19:36.
already been sold for Saturday's battle for | :19:37. | :19:39.
Birmingham bragging rights. It's going to be a great fight. I'm | :19:40. | :19:45.
ready to put it all on the line everything I've got. If I h`ve to | :19:46. | :19:48.
stand there and fight for 12 rounds, I will do it but the plan is to box | :19:49. | :19:53.
and not come out. I am very confident. You can ask the team you | :19:54. | :19:58.
know, I am very confident on this one. | :19:59. | :19:59.
Of course it always helps when there's a little bit of tension | :20:00. | :20:02.
between the two fighters and that was certainly evident today. | :20:03. | :20:06.
I am going to beat him for 02 rounds from pillar to post. I thought you | :20:07. | :20:12.
were going to stop me, how hs it going to go 12 rounds? | :20:13. | :20:14.
Frankie Gavin still holds the distinction of being Brhtain's | :20:15. | :20:17.
only male world amateur chalpion and winning on Saturday will be | :20:18. | :20:19.
critical to his hopes of getting another shot | :20:20. | :20:21.
In the meantime, Hearn dropped a strong hint today that another | :20:22. | :20:25.
Brummie, Kal Yafai, will get his world title chance before | :20:26. | :20:27.
It is crazy. We have had sole really talented fighters from Birmhngham | :20:28. | :20:37.
coming through the years. Robert McCracken was a great fightdr. So I | :20:38. | :20:43.
think it might be third timd lucky and I am going to do the job. | :20:44. | :20:48.
That can wait, though, because Saturday is all abott | :20:49. | :20:50.
So two Midlanders to battle it out in Birmingham. | :20:51. | :20:55.
And in cricket, we've got two Midlanders doing well | :20:56. | :20:57.
Yes, all rounders Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes have rescudd | :20:58. | :21:01.
England from a precarious position of 21 for three on day | :21:02. | :21:04.
Worcestershire's Moeen Ali top scored with 68. | :21:05. | :21:10.
But he survived five LBW reviews from the TV official described it | :21:11. | :21:14.
as the hardest 68 of his life, as the ball span so much. | :21:15. | :21:19.
And then Warwickshire's Chrhs Woakes finished the day on 36 not out | :21:20. | :21:22.
and England closed day one on 258 for seven. | :21:23. | :21:30.
A lot better than it was in the morning. | :21:31. | :21:34.
Interesting conditions out there. Thank you very much. | :21:35. | :21:36.
There are just a few days left for you to go | :21:37. | :21:39.
to get your nomination in for the 2016 - | :21:40. | :21:41.
We're looking for those inspirational characters | :21:42. | :21:43.
who get others into sport for the love of it. | :21:44. | :21:46.
The details of how to nomin`te your 'unsung hero' can be | :21:47. | :21:48.
The closing date for nominations is this Sunday, the 23rd of October. | :21:49. | :21:56.
You may think Hollywood is the home of the movies, | :21:57. | :21:58.
but did you know the Midlands played a pivotal part in early | :21:59. | :22:01.
In fact if it wasn't for ond man from Birmingham, there may not | :22:02. | :22:06.
Ben Sidwell's been to find out more about our pioneers | :22:07. | :22:10.
In the mid 20th Century, movies were king and there was no lore | :22:11. | :22:20.
important person in the British film industry | :22:21. | :22:22.
than Birmingham-born Sir Michael Balcon. | :22:23. | :22:27.
His significance is everywhdre in the film industry, I think. Because | :22:28. | :22:33.
that was the decisions that he made as a producer that really modernised | :22:34. | :22:36.
the UK film industry. As the boss of Ealing Studios, | :22:37. | :22:38.
he produced more than 350 films, making UK movies | :22:39. | :22:40.
a worldwide success. He was also the man who gavd Sir | :22:41. | :22:49.
Alfred Hitchcock his first directing job. | :22:50. | :22:53.
Of course films needed cinelas to show them in and that's | :22:54. | :22:56.
where another Birmingham man led the way. | :22:57. | :22:57.
Opened in 1935 in Kingstandhng, this was of Oscar Deutsch's | :22:58. | :23:00.
Within just a few years, he had a chain of more | :23:01. | :23:06.
But neither of these men wotld have been able to do anything | :23:07. | :23:17.
It is even being claimed it stands for Oscar entertains our nation A | :23:18. | :23:22.
lot of people don't realise that Odeon is a Birmingham's story. I | :23:23. | :23:28.
guess we are a bit rubbish `t celebrating our own heritagd and I | :23:29. | :23:30.
think cinema in particular. But neither of these men wotld have | :23:31. | :23:32.
been able to do anything without the invention of another | :23:33. | :23:35.
Brummie, Alexander Parkes. In 1855 he created celluliod, | :23:36. | :23:37.
the substance film was made from. All film-makers, all of the film 's | :23:38. | :23:47.
Michael Balkan has made, all of the film 's Stephen Spielberg h`s made | :23:48. | :23:51.
recently, or their artistic freedom do expressions on film to Alexander | :23:52. | :24:00.
Parkes, fun of Birmingham. ,- a son of Birmingham. | :24:01. | :24:02.
Today, Birmingham still has an active role in the film hndustry, | :24:03. | :24:05.
with a number of movies being made here, from Hollywood blockbtsters | :24:06. | :24:08.
to smaller independent films like this one in Balsall He`th. | :24:09. | :24:10.
You wonder whether today he would have needed to go to London to set | :24:11. | :24:16.
up as Don studio. Maybe somdbody like Michael today would have gone, | :24:17. | :24:21.
actually, why don't we do it in Birmingham where you have got great | :24:22. | :24:24.
transport links and all of these amazing locations on the doorstep. | :24:25. | :24:26.
An exhibition about Sir Michael Balcon is now | :24:27. | :24:28.
on at the Parkside Gallery at Birmingham City University. | :24:29. | :24:30.
Those behind it hope a more permanent memorial can be | :24:31. | :24:32.
created in the city, in honour of the pioneers | :24:33. | :24:34.
Now, have a look at this - it's a tree | :24:35. | :24:43.
which appears to have grown into the shape | :24:44. | :24:45.
The remarkable 30-foot-high beech tree seems to show the horsd | :24:46. | :24:53.
It can be seen on the A528 road between Shrewsbury | :24:54. | :24:56.
Only please if you are a passenger! Let's have a look at the we`ther. | :24:57. | :25:07.
It seems like sunshine was `t a premium in many places todax. | :25:08. | :25:13.
That is true. Yes, it was a bit nippy under the cloud as well and if | :25:14. | :25:16.
you were caught in the showdrs, I do not blame you for thinking the day | :25:17. | :25:20.
was not living up to expect`tions. We are hoping for a bit mord | :25:21. | :25:23.
sunshine by the weekend. Just slip on a few layers and it should not be | :25:24. | :25:34.
too bad, just a bit nippy. Hnto tonight, not great timing btt we are | :25:35. | :25:39.
looking at the cloud starting to melt away. That is good news, | :25:40. | :25:42.
however, if you're looking `t for the meteor shower speaking tonight. | :25:43. | :25:44.
They could produce 20 shoothng stars per hour at their peak and we have | :25:45. | :25:47.
got clear skies for it. I pressure in charge, now introducing drier air | :25:48. | :25:50.
are helping to break up the cloud. A few of these pressure systels | :25:51. | :25:52.
waltzing around us over the coming days. Low pressure moving down to | :25:53. | :25:55.
the side, temperatures to the east. Then we have got as high prdssure | :25:56. | :25:59.
currently in control becoming king by the time we get to the wdekend. | :26:00. | :26:03.
Before this next low pressure system starts to move on from the | :26:04. | :26:06.
south-west by the end of thd weekend. But for tonight, as I say, | :26:07. | :26:11.
the cloud is melting away and with largely clear skies, temper`tures | :26:12. | :26:15.
going to plummet to near frdezing in the countryside and here in the | :26:16. | :26:18.
south-west around towns and cities only four Celsius. We have got some | :26:19. | :26:21.
patchy mist and fog develophng into the morning as well tomorrow and | :26:22. | :26:25.
this will clear quite quickly. Then we should be integrated bit of | :26:26. | :26:29.
sunshine. Because of the cldar skies tonight, we start with that. Even if | :26:30. | :26:32.
we get some cloud during thd day, the drier air will help to break up | :26:33. | :26:40.
the cloud. It is a dry day `nd temperatures will rise to 14 Celsius | :26:41. | :26:43.
in the south-west, 11 Celsits elsewhere. A touch appear pdrhaps | :26:44. | :26:45.
with that when starting to hntroduce an easterly flow and that whll start | :26:46. | :26:50.
to make its presence felt bx the template to the weekend. For the | :26:51. | :26:55.
weekend, to start with, on Saturday we have mist and fog but with | :26:56. | :26:57.
lighter winds from the east, that should take a bit of time to lift. | :26:58. | :27:01.
Once it does, into some ple`sant spells of sunshine and Sund`y is | :27:02. | :27:06.
looking a little bit cloudidr. We have got that low pressure system | :27:07. | :27:09.
moving up from the south-west and that could introduce some r`in as we | :27:10. | :27:14.
head into the start of next week. Otherwise, looking quite pldasant | :27:15. | :27:17.
for the weekend. I will keep an eye out for that meteor shower. | :27:18. | :27:22.
Join us tomorrow for a tractor ride down memory lane celebrating more | :27:23. | :27:25.
than 50 years of the iconic, Midlands-made, Massey Ferguson. | :27:26. | :27:27.
Find out how the famous Fergie built in Coventry is now driving | :27:28. | :27:30.
an agricultural revolution in Africa, where they are used | :27:31. | :27:32.
78% of all of the tractors sold in Great Britain in the 1940s was | :27:33. | :27:42.
Ferguson. 78%. I will be back at 10:30pm. Goodbye | :27:43. | :27:49.
for now. | :27:50. | :27:50. |
