The Justice Secretary calls for a full investigation

:00:00.:00:12.

400 prisoners are moved out of Birmingham jail.

:00:13.:00:22.

From the staff and when I've been talking to them,

:00:23.:00:25.

this has been coming for at least two or three months.

:00:26.:00:27.

We'll be asking the chair of the independent monitoring board

:00:28.:00:30.

about the state of the jail this evening.

:00:31.:00:33.

The end of a line - the Wolverhampton Goodyear factory

:00:34.:00:36.

closes its doors after nearly 90 years of production.

:00:37.:00:38.

We knew it was coming about a year ago and I'm hoping,

:00:39.:00:42.

despite some people not being happy, that at least the majority

:00:43.:00:45.

A timely victory for campaigners at Dudley Hippodrome -

:00:46.:00:48.

the future of the theatre is secured on its 78th anniversary.

:00:49.:00:51.

Behind the scenes at Sport Personality of the Year -

:00:52.:00:53.

how 11 months of planning get to air.

:00:54.:01:00.

Add the weather might not be feeling festive, but I have got a tale that

:01:01.:01:06.

might help. Join me for a full forecast later and a spot of

:01:07.:01:07.

Christmas Carol. The BBC understands that 400

:01:08.:01:17.

prisoners have now been moved out of Birmingham Prison,

:01:18.:01:21.

since riots on Friday. Specially trained prison officers

:01:22.:01:24.

took back control of the jail late on Friday night,

:01:25.:01:26.

after more than 12 hours of chaos. Stairwells were set on fire

:01:27.:01:31.

and paper records destroyed during trouble in four wings

:01:32.:01:34.

of the category B prison, Today the Justice Secretary ordered

:01:35.:01:37.

a full investigation New footage emerged today of gleeful

:01:38.:01:55.

inmates running a mark on the four wings of HMP Birmingham, seized by

:01:56.:02:02.

rioters. For 12 hours or more, a prison in

:02:03.:02:08.

the grip of anarchy. Outside today, I met a man whose brother and cousin

:02:09.:02:14.

are inside. I'm really worried about them, because they were walking

:02:15.:02:18.

around with weapons and that. It was really tense because most of them

:02:19.:02:24.

are locked down. In the Commons today, under pressure, the Justice

:02:25.:02:29.

Secretary responded to the worst UK prison riot in 25 years. It is

:02:30.:02:34.

important to a member that these problems have developed over a

:02:35.:02:37.

number of years, and it will take time and concerted effort to turn

:02:38.:02:45.

this situation around. While these reforms take old, we are continually

:02:46.:02:49.

working to reduce risk and ensure stability across the prison estate.

:02:50.:02:56.

Periodically, vans emerge, the prisoners bumping on the sides as

:02:57.:03:00.

they go. Part of a series of transfers to other jails.

:03:01.:03:05.

Originally, we were told 240 inmates were to be transferred. We now

:03:06.:03:08.

believe that figure to be closer to 400. It appears the rioting started

:03:09.:03:14.

with inmates clambering onto safety netting stretched between landings.

:03:15.:03:18.

One was unhappy because of a problem with a health care appointment.

:03:19.:03:24.

So-called tornadoes cause of prison officers emerged late on Friday,

:03:25.:03:27.

spattered in paint, having restored order. Just six weeks ago, a board

:03:28.:03:32.

of independent monitors warned about the growing prevalence of

:03:33.:03:41.

psychoactive drugs in the presence. It seems that it is a difficult task

:03:42.:03:49.

to get it sorted. There are cracks in the system. This has been coming

:03:50.:03:54.

for two or three months. They think it has been ignored, and it has

:03:55.:03:58.

culminated in Friday night and the right. Evidence is being gathered

:03:59.:04:02.

for a police investigation into the riot. Four wings were so badly

:04:03.:04:08.

damaged, they apparently unusable. who's chairman of the Birmingham

:04:09.:04:10.

Prison Independent Monitoring Board. You've been to the prison

:04:11.:04:15.

this morning - It's getting back to being a more

:04:16.:04:28.

relaxed place. On Saturday, members of the board were saying there was a

:04:29.:04:33.

lot of aggression and shouting and anger. That has dissipated. We have

:04:34.:04:39.

talked to prisoners and staff and it is getting back to how we would

:04:40.:04:46.

expected to be. You raised concerns about insufficient staffing levels

:04:47.:04:51.

back in July, didn't you? Have they not been listened to? I think they

:04:52.:04:58.

have been listened to. G4S have, instead of appointing people as

:04:59.:05:01.

people left, they have started recruiting ahead of vacancies coming

:05:02.:05:06.

online. But it is a difficult job. Some who take it on not realise what

:05:07.:05:11.

it is like and find it too difficult. Other have been in the

:05:12.:05:16.

job for a long time, find it difficult and end up being either

:05:17.:05:21.

sick or finding new jobs. The Justice Secretary has called for a

:05:22.:05:23.

full investigation into what happened on Friday. Do you have any

:05:24.:05:28.

idea what went wrong? I think the investigation needs to do that.

:05:29.:05:33.

Depending on who you talk to in the prison, they have all got their own

:05:34.:05:36.

theories about what it may have been. I figured this stage it is

:05:37.:05:42.

fruitless to speculate. Then we put it a different way. Were you

:05:43.:05:45.

surprised that this happened on Friday? I think we were surprised,

:05:46.:05:51.

because we believed the police and is well run, we think the local

:05:52.:05:56.

population... The rioting would suggest differently! Yes! You can be

:05:57.:06:01.

proud of the management of the prison and the staff at the effort

:06:02.:06:05.

they put into it, so although it has its tensions, they have come up and

:06:06.:06:14.

down over the years. We would say it was a surprise that it happened. OK,

:06:15.:06:16.

thank you for your time. one of Wolverhampton's

:06:17.:06:19.

major employers Goodyear has been making tyres

:06:20.:06:22.

at the Bushbury Lane site At its height, the factory

:06:23.:06:27.

employed 7,000 workers. But in June last year, the company

:06:28.:06:30.

said it was to close the plant - Unions say those workers

:06:31.:06:34.

were promised help to find alternative employment,

:06:35.:06:40.

but claim this didn't happen. Our business correspondent,

:06:41.:06:43.

Peter Plisner, Certainly years. To night, this

:06:44.:06:57.

battery is quite for the first time in decades. It visually closes

:06:58.:07:04.

tomorrow, but the production ended last Friday. The tyre compounds that

:07:05.:07:08.

were previously made here I now being made at sites across Europe as

:07:09.:07:11.

yet another major industry leads Wolverhampton.

:07:12.:07:15.

He's witnessed the demise of several major companies,

:07:16.:07:17.

and today John Bull was there at the end of Goodyear.

:07:18.:07:20.

Despite major investment just four years ago

:07:21.:07:22.

and an efficient workforce, the company still wanted this

:07:23.:07:24.

factory closed, with the loss of more than 300 jobs.

:07:25.:07:29.

Wanye Deveney was one of the first to leave,

:07:30.:07:31.

but like many he struggled to find work in the Wolverhampton area

:07:32.:07:34.

A lot of the lads went to Stafford, which is a 27 mile run. You have

:07:35.:07:52.

people out at Stafford Way, a 29 mile journey.

:07:53.:07:54.

And unions have been highly critital that workers were offer redployment

:07:55.:07:57.

even further away at a Goodyear factory in Mexico.

:07:58.:08:01.

It shows the total lack of understanding that Goodyear have got

:08:02.:08:10.

about the workforce. To add insult to injury. No one is going to go

:08:11.:08:15.

there. This is the old chub factory in the

:08:16.:08:20.

centre of the city, which is now a media and leisure centre.

:08:21.:08:22.

This newsreel footage shows workers finishing off a spacial record

:08:23.:08:25.

breaking car at the old Sunbeam factory in the city.

:08:26.:08:27.

And this is the same factory today - now converted into flats.

:08:28.:08:30.

Experts say globalisation means production can go anywhere.

:08:31.:08:38.

If the companies are not headquartered here, and they are not

:08:39.:08:42.

also putting the research and development commitment into the

:08:43.:08:46.

places where they are producing stuff, there is an incentive to look

:08:47.:08:50.

upon it as a production outsourcing thing, and then you move around to

:08:51.:08:53.

areas where you think you will be more cost competitive.

:08:54.:08:55.

So where does Goodyear's departure leave Wolverhampton -

:08:56.:08:58.

business leaders maintain the city's future is still bright.

:08:59.:09:01.

There is a lot of money going to regeneration in Wolverhampton, as

:09:02.:09:09.

you can see when you go through. A lot of retail is moving into the

:09:10.:09:10.

area. Although new industries have been

:09:11.:09:11.

attracted to the city, including Jaguar Land Rover's engine

:09:12.:09:17.

plant - the closure of Goodyear and the loss of jobs

:09:18.:09:20.

is still a bitter blow. We asked Goodyear to put up a

:09:21.:09:27.

spokesperson tonight, they declined. They issued a statement saying that

:09:28.:09:31.

the majority of workers have secured alternative positions in the local

:09:32.:09:36.

area. 283 workers, they say, have left the site. 37 will remain for

:09:37.:09:41.

what they call a close down period, which eases acted to be completed in

:09:42.:09:46.

June next year. -- which is expected to be completed.

:09:47.:09:48.

A man from Birmingham, aged 101, has been jailed for 13 years

:09:49.:09:51.

for historical sex offences against children.

:09:52.:09:53.

Ralph Clarke, who's believed to be the oldest person in Britain ever

:09:54.:09:55.

to be convicted by a jury, was found guilty last week

:09:56.:09:58.

of abusing three children during the 1970s and '80s.

:09:59.:10:00.

Sentencing him, the judge said Clarke

:10:01.:10:02.

Police have named a man who was stabbed and killed

:10:03.:10:09.

23-year-old Ibrahim Ismail was found on Moseley Street

:10:10.:10:13.

in Highgate in the early hours of Saturday.

:10:14.:10:16.

A postmortem examination revealed wounds to his chest and back.

:10:17.:10:19.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses.

:10:20.:10:24.

There has been a victory today for campaigners

:10:25.:10:26.

working to secure the future of the Dudley Hippodrome.

:10:27.:10:33.

Keys to the venue have been handed over,

:10:34.:10:35.

as the council agreed to a five-year lease.

:10:36.:10:37.

as the theatre opened its doors 78 years ago on this very day in 1938.

:10:38.:10:42.

Here's our arts reporter, Satnam Rana.

:10:43.:10:46.

The real work can start so we can finally see that building restored

:10:47.:10:58.

to its own natural beauty, and once again entertainment

:10:59.:11:00.

The main prop - a bunch of keys, unlocking rhe future

:11:01.:11:10.

Campaigners have fought hard to save the Art Deco building.

:11:11.:11:13.

Now they've been given a five-year lease by the council.

:11:14.:11:16.

Wonderful, because we can now start work in there, clearing it out,

:11:17.:11:20.

and we now need to get the next stage going.

:11:21.:11:26.

The next stages are, of course, fundraising.

:11:27.:11:30.

We need to raise funds for feasibility studies,

:11:31.:11:32.

we need to find out what needs to be done to get the building repaired.

:11:33.:11:35.

We've got to get the services connected.

:11:36.:11:37.

And then we've got to look at what we need to put inside it

:11:38.:11:41.

In its heyday, the theatre was a magnet for great entertainers -

:11:42.:11:48.

and comedy duo Laurel and Hardy appeared in 1947.

:11:49.:11:52.

having been transformed from a theatre to a bingo hall.

:11:53.:12:00.

So what's made the council hand out the five-year lease?

:12:01.:12:04.

We simply haven't got the money to be able to invest in this.

:12:05.:12:08.

But what we've done is worked with the Friends Of The Hippodrome

:12:09.:12:11.

to at least give them the opportunity to raise that revenue,

:12:12.:12:14.

to bring acting life back to the Hippodrome,

:12:15.:12:21.

In all, ?10 million is needed to reopen the building.

:12:22.:12:25.

Plans include a side extension and a glass frontage.

:12:26.:12:28.

In five years' time, it's hoped that the curtain

:12:29.:12:32.

will once again be raised here at the Dudley Hippodrome.

:12:33.:12:35.

But this time, not just as a theatre,

:12:36.:12:37.

but also a multiuse venue, hosting both sporting and cultural events.

:12:38.:12:47.

250,000 school children from around the world have been

:12:48.:12:49.

in Birmingham, competing in a special tournament,

:12:50.:12:52.

which tests teamwork and engineering skills.

:12:53.:12:59.

They've built robots from Lego for the first Lego League -

:13:00.:13:01.

an international research and engineering competition.

:13:02.:13:03.

Last minute checks by this young engineering enthusiast,

:13:04.:13:09.

but can his team's robot move this pig without knocking it over?

:13:10.:13:12.

And for the boys in green, another confident start,

:13:13.:13:26.

A couple of minutes later, a chance to discuss the scores.

:13:27.:13:33.

It sometimes works and it sometimes doesn't.

:13:34.:13:36.

Even if you programme it and everything is perfect

:13:37.:13:38.

in the testing, in the real thing, it goes wrong.

:13:39.:13:43.

The pupils are judged on their robots and teamwork.

:13:44.:13:47.

160 children from 16 schools across the West Midlands

:13:48.:13:50.

are taking part in the regional heat.

:13:51.:13:52.

Woodrush High School is keen to do better than last year.

:13:53.:13:57.

We looked at other teams, and that's been helpful.

:13:58.:14:01.

We've looked at what they've done and put that into our own programs,

:14:02.:14:07.

I don't think we ever expected come first,

:14:08.:14:11.

because we have got quite a basic kit,

:14:12.:14:13.

but anywhere between first and fifth is where we're looking to get.

:14:14.:14:16.

is to create the next generation of engineers.

:14:17.:14:23.

Employers say to us at the University that they need

:14:24.:14:26.

highly trained and highly skilled graduates who are capable

:14:27.:14:28.

So it's important for us to find these people and help them come

:14:29.:14:32.

through on the pathways into those engineering careers.

:14:33.:14:34.

This Leicestershire-based school were the eventual winners

:14:35.:14:36.

and will go through to the UK heat in Bristol.

:14:37.:14:40.

The final competition against other countries

:14:41.:14:44.

will take place in America next year.

:14:45.:14:54.

More than enough sport to get stuck into - including

:14:55.:14:56.

Sports Personality Of The Year in Birmingham last night.

:14:57.:14:58.

Stoke City fans will still be shaking their heads in disbelief

:14:59.:15:08.

after they threw away a two-goal lead against ten men on Saturday.

:15:09.:15:11.

A win would have taken them level on points with West Bromwich Albion

:15:12.:15:14.

after they were beaten at home by Manchester United.

:15:15.:15:16.

Nick Clitheroe rounds up all the weekend's football action.

:15:17.:15:20.

By the end of the first half, it looked like

:15:21.:15:22.

all of Stoke's Christmases were coming early.

:15:23.:15:24.

Bojan put them in front from the penalty spot

:15:25.:15:26.

against ten-man Leicester before Joe Allen scored his fifth

:15:27.:15:28.

It was astonishing, then, that the champions fought back

:15:29.:15:34.

when Daniel Amartey grabbed a late equaliser.

:15:35.:15:39.

West Bromwich Albion's fine recent form was always going to be tested

:15:40.:15:42.

by Manchester United and an early goal from Zlatan Ibrahimovic

:15:43.:15:44.

The Swede was lucky to avoid a red card for this challenge

:15:45.:15:48.

on Craig Dawson but he stayed on to score a second

:15:49.:15:51.

Everybody's had a three-game week, and it's been tough.

:15:52.:15:54.

You know, we've played against a team that have found some form,

:15:55.:15:58.

and you can see why they've found some form.

:15:59.:16:01.

Gianfranco Zola's first game in charge of Birmingham City

:16:02.:16:03.

They led until eight minutes from the end against

:16:04.:16:07.

promotion-chasing Brighton, who went on to win it

:16:08.:16:09.

in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

:16:10.:16:12.

In recent seasons, Aston Villa haven't enjoyed away games

:16:13.:16:14.

so imagine the delight of the travelling fans

:16:15.:16:18.

putting both those failings to bed at QPR yesterday.

:16:19.:16:22.

Wolves moved five points clear of the relegation zone as goals

:16:23.:16:25.

from Helder Costa and Ivan Cavaleiro gave them a 2-0 win

:16:26.:16:28.

Burton Albion put up a brave fight against Newcastle,

:16:29.:16:32.

with Lloyd Dyer equalising for the Brewers

:16:33.:16:34.

before Mo Diame ensured victory for the leaders

:16:35.:16:36.

in the first ever meeting between the clubs.

:16:37.:16:39.

The only winners in League One were Shrewsbury Town, who climbed off

:16:40.:16:42.

the bottom of the table with a 2-0 home victory over Bristol Rovers.

:16:43.:16:45.

It's the first time they've won back-to-back games this season.

:16:46.:16:48.

And Cheltenham Town will also enjoy a tastier Christmas dinner

:16:49.:16:51.

after their first win in the league since the 22nd of October.

:16:52.:16:54.

It's only an inferior goal difference

:16:55.:16:55.

which means they're still in the relegation zone.

:16:56.:17:01.

Now all three of our Premiership rugby clubs lost in Europe

:17:02.:17:04.

at the weekend, but Wasps' defeat was extremely controversial.

:17:05.:17:07.

Yes, they were in front at Connacht in the European Champions Cup

:17:08.:17:11.

Now, in rugby, the clock then stops and the game ends

:17:12.:17:16.

But, on this occasion, the referee allowed Connacht to take a line-out.

:17:17.:17:23.

They scored a try and kicked the conversion

:17:24.:17:25.

In a statement today, Wasps say they're extremely disappointed.

:17:26.:17:36.

But, on the plus side, they're still top of Pool Two.

:17:37.:17:44.

they'll still reach the quarterfinals.

:17:45.:17:47.

It's been a big weekend for a teenager from Stoke-on-Trent.

:17:48.:17:49.

17-year-old Jim Moston made it to the final

:17:50.:17:51.

of the Junior World Darts competition

:17:52.:17:53.

before losing to his Dutch opponent at the Alexandra Palace.

:17:54.:17:55.

The college student has only been playing competitively for a year,

:17:56.:17:58.

and has already won the European Junior title.

:17:59.:18:00.

Laura May McMullan has been to meet him.

:18:01.:18:02.

It's every dart player's dream to play there.

:18:03.:18:07.

There's no mercy, you have to earn your right to play.

:18:08.:18:10.

Jim Moston is one of the sport's rising stars.

:18:11.:18:14.

The 17-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent made it to the finals

:18:15.:18:22.

of the Junior World Darts Championship.

:18:23.:18:24.

He's only been competing seriously for about a year,

:18:25.:18:29.

and says he didn't even know if he was any good.

:18:30.:18:32.

I just gave it a go and obviously the hard work and the practice that

:18:33.:18:40.

I've been putting in in the local leagues, in the pubs,

:18:41.:18:43.

To get to the final of the worlds, we've joked about it,

:18:44.:18:50.

not really actually believing it would happen.

:18:51.:18:55.

Whatever he does, he tries to perfect.

:18:56.:18:57.

Doesn't matter what it is, he perseveres,

:18:58.:19:00.

and he's just got that kind of personality.

:19:01.:19:04.

When he said one day, "I can do this, Mum,"

:19:05.:19:07.

His mentor - Andy "The Hammer" Hamilton -

:19:08.:19:13.

He's achieved probably a lot more than kids his age, at 17 years old.

:19:14.:19:20.

The good thing about Jim, his feet are on the ground,

:19:21.:19:25.

And even getting to play the world's biggest

:19:26.:19:29.

He's just a normal person, playing darts.

:19:30.:19:35.

He's just a bald man with a green T-shirt.

:19:36.:19:37.

Unfortunately, Jim lost in the final to his Dutch opponent,

:19:38.:19:42.

but he is the current European champion.

:19:43.:19:46.

Next year, he'll make the move to the senior professional tour

:19:47.:19:50.

And we had another near miss yesterday with Nick Skelton.

:19:51.:20:03.

Yes, he finished third in the BBC's Sports personality of the year

:20:04.:20:08.

58-year-old Skelton from Warwickshire

:20:09.:20:13.

Last night, Skelton finished behind the runner-up, Alistair Brownlee.

:20:14.:20:20.

that a key member of his family hadn't voted for him.

:20:21.:20:26.

I've got a bit of a bone to pick with my wife,

:20:27.:20:29.

because she actually told me about an hour ago

:20:30.:20:31.

So not smart from her, with Christmas coming up.

:20:32.:20:39.

If that vote would have counted, it would've a different result.

:20:40.:20:45.

Yes, Nick was just one of those I interviewed last night,

:20:46.:20:48.

The culmination of a wonderful year of sport -

:20:49.:20:54.

all pulled together by a big team at the BBC.

:20:55.:20:56.

Almost 10 million switched on to watch Andy Murray

:20:57.:21:10.

along with 12,000 inside the Genting Arena.

:21:11.:21:16.

This celebration of sport has been months in the planning.

:21:17.:21:20.

Well, come with me, and we'll find out.

:21:21.:21:27.

Here are the 16 for 2016, and the details you need to vote...

:21:28.:21:30.

Six hours before the programme goes on air,

:21:31.:21:32.

the technical rehearsal irons out any last minute niggles.

:21:33.:21:38.

The scale of this production is huge - one camera in the wrong place

:21:39.:21:42.

and the whole programme could fall apart.

:21:43.:21:43.

Everyone needs to be ready for their cue.

:21:44.:21:46.

Technical rehearsals are over, all seemed to go well.

:21:47.:21:48.

So let's go and have a chat with one of the stars of the show.

:21:49.:21:53.

There's not many people I'd let into my make-up room,

:21:54.:21:55.

Clare, of all the things you do the BBC sport,

:21:56.:21:59.

And it's because of the live audience.

:22:00.:22:03.

But also, in all those front seats, you're looking out

:22:04.:22:06.

and there's Ian Thorpe and there's Michael Phelps and Adam Peaty

:22:07.:22:09.

and Jason and Laura Kenny are in the front row.

:22:10.:22:12.

if you get anything wrong, they will notice.

:22:13.:22:17.

But I'm not a showgirl, you know what I mean?

:22:18.:22:24.

I'm not used at the lights and the razzle-dazzle,

:22:25.:22:27.

and the guns going off with the ticker tape and all that.

:22:28.:22:30.

So I don't know, it's a much bigger show, it's a huge show.

:22:31.:22:34.

I'd love Nick Skelton to be top three, obviously!

:22:35.:22:38.

You know, it will never happen again.

:22:39.:22:43.

He doesn't think he'll ever be on the list again.

:22:44.:22:47.

People are starting to take their seats now for the big show,

:22:48.:22:50.

which started in the planning, way back in January.

:22:51.:22:53.

Let's meet one of the team who's put it all together.

:22:54.:22:57.

We've got 17 articulated trucks that deliver the set,

:22:58.:23:01.

We're using 130 microphones, seven sound mixers.

:23:02.:23:09.

We've got ten kilometres of power, forget about the camera cables.

:23:10.:23:14.

including all the various BBC regions that are here.

:23:15.:23:19.

Using 17 in the main arena and a number around backstage as well.

:23:20.:23:22.

Do you actually get to enjoy this, or is it just a complete nightmare?

:23:23.:23:25.

I get to enjoy it on about Monday afternoon.

:23:26.:23:27.

I will spool it back and have a look,

:23:28.:23:30.

"where could we have done better?"

:23:31.:23:31.

Or a sit-down after Christmas to look through it.

:23:32.:23:34.

Some final fine tuning and a chance to shake off the pre-match nerves,

:23:35.:23:37.

11 months of planning boil down to two hours of slick TV.

:23:38.:23:45.

Clare even got her wish of an award for Nick Skelton.

:23:46.:23:48.

The weather might not be feeling very festive,

:23:49.:23:57.

but there's certainly some Christmas cheer where Rebecca is this evening.

:23:58.:24:04.

You're the king very festive yourself!

:24:05.:24:08.

Thank you. I would like my own choir to accompany me for the rest of the

:24:09.:24:12.

festive period. It might look festive here at the moment, but it

:24:13.:24:16.

was a different scene last week because the tree and then the 70s

:24:17.:24:24.

scene -- nativity scene were stolen. Helen is in charge for putting this

:24:25.:24:27.

display in. When you saw it was stolen, how did you feel? I felt

:24:28.:24:33.

stunned, actually. I could not stay in for the rest of the day, I had to

:24:34.:24:37.

go out. I could not believe that Christmas had been stolen for the

:24:38.:24:45.

second time in two years. Everything was taken. They came back a few days

:24:46.:24:50.

later and took the stand away, a smaller nativity set had been on. We

:24:51.:25:02.

have the local police officer. What does it mean when the community gets

:25:03.:25:08.

together like this? It is an amazing example of what can happen when the

:25:09.:25:13.

community comes together. We have three trees here now, but no sign of

:25:14.:25:19.

the nativity scene. If that makes you feel warm ahead of Christmas,

:25:20.:25:21.

that is the only thing that is. In fact, today is the last of the

:25:22.:25:32.

settled weather because we are going to start to see a change after

:25:33.:25:35.

tomorrow. For tomorrow, it is a brighter picture, with a chill in

:25:36.:25:40.

the air. It will feel fresher for a time as well. As for tonight, it is

:25:41.:25:46.

dry at the moment, surprisingly, but we have a weather system which is

:25:47.:25:49.

about to come in from the east which will give us some downpours

:25:50.:25:54.

overnight. As that clears, we'll be left with holes in the cloud which

:25:55.:25:59.

will lead to mist and fog patches, but nothing like we saw yesterday.

:26:00.:26:04.

It will be a clear start across the South and east tomorrow, with some

:26:05.:26:07.

dry and bright spells to come through the morning. But it will be

:26:08.:26:09.

chilly because temperatures are likely to dip down to between two

:26:10.:26:14.

and five Celsius. A touch of frost in some places. A dry and bright

:26:15.:26:18.

start for the Southeast, steadily spreading north and west. We will

:26:19.:26:23.

see the skies clearing, some pleasant spells of sunshine and

:26:24.:26:27.

light winds. Averages should push up to around seven Celsius. As we had

:26:28.:26:31.

through the remainder of tomorrow, we will start to see the cloud

:26:32.:26:36.

thickening and that will be ahead of a weather system which comes in from

:26:37.:26:40.

the west. Plenty of rain to come as we head through Tuesday night into

:26:41.:26:42.

Wednesday, with temperatures hovering between two and five

:26:43.:26:49.

Celsius. As we head towards the remainder of the week, it was the

:26:50.:26:57.

Christmas weekend, it will continue to get more subtle. Heavy downpours

:26:58.:27:02.

at times, strong winds as well. If you are looking for a white

:27:03.:27:05.

Christmas, the only chance of that is if you get to higher ground and

:27:06.:27:08.

even then it is more likely to be falling as sleet. We have some

:27:09.:27:13.

fantastic music here, all from the West Midlands Police choir. I will

:27:14.:27:15.

leave you with them singing. That's all for now,

:27:16.:27:36.

your next news at 10:30pm. Ben dropping

:27:37.:27:47.

a frozen turkey on Mum's foot. Put me down!

:27:48.:27:52.

No, we talked about this.

:27:53.:27:55.
