Good evening. the news where you are. Goodbye.

:00:11.:00:11.

Police are investigating after a Shetland Pony was attacked

:00:12.:00:13.

The animals have been impounded after the pony's

:00:14.:00:18.

owners discovered it dead in its paddock in Staffordshire.

:00:19.:00:20.

You may find some of the details in Kevin Reide's report distressing.

:00:21.:00:26.

This is Monty, a 12-year old Shetland Pony savaged to death

:00:27.:00:30.

at his paddock in Burntwood on Christmas Eve by three

:00:31.:00:32.

It's left the owner and his family devastated.

:00:33.:00:37.

Around his mouth had been torn open, he had lost a lot of blood.

:00:38.:00:45.

The family from Great Wyrley had rescued Monty from a pitiful

:00:46.:00:51.

He had a chain left embedded in his neck and

:00:52.:00:57.

we were advised to have him put to sleep when we first had him

:00:58.:01:00.

and the vet said they would keep him in and see

:01:01.:01:03.

So it's awful for him to lose his life.

:01:04.:01:11.

Monty had his own purpose-built stable at Lamb's Lodge Farm,

:01:12.:01:13.

Staffordshire Police deployed dog handlers and an armed response unit

:01:14.:01:21.

to capture the roaming dogs and they say they have now been

:01:22.:01:24.

Meanwhile, they are making enquiries under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

:01:25.:01:31.

We have been through so many things, operations, to keep them going.

:01:32.:01:35.

He could not even run away because he had a bad shoulder.

:01:36.:01:39.

The dogs had been seen on the loose before acting aggressively.

:01:40.:01:52.

Kevin Reide, BBC Midlands Today, Staffordhsire.

:01:53.:01:56.

On the twentieth anniversary of the disappearance of two

:01:57.:01:59.

boys in Chelmsley Wood, their families say they're

:02:00.:02:00.

still hopeful of finding out what happened to them.

:02:01.:02:03.

David Spencer and Patrick Warren were both eleven when they went

:02:04.:02:07.

missing near their homes on Boxing Day in 1996.

:02:08.:02:10.

Their relatives now accept they are probably both dead

:02:11.:02:13.

and police have made a fresh appeal for information.

:02:14.:02:19.

It's predicted that Warwickshire's tourist economy could get

:02:20.:02:21.

a ?15 million boost next year as a result of Brexit.

:02:22.:02:24.

More than 18,000 people in the county are employed

:02:25.:02:26.

The County Council says there are indications that visitors

:02:27.:02:29.

from around the world are planning to take advantage of

:02:30.:02:34.

There were queues outside many of our major shopping centres

:02:35.:02:40.

today including in Stoke and Birmingham as the traditional

:02:41.:02:42.

Boxing Day Sales got underway - despite predictions that the rise

:02:43.:02:45.

of online retailers might persuade many people to stay at home.

:02:46.:02:48.

Ten to eight - queues snaking out of the Bullring.

:02:49.:02:57.

As the shutters to Selfridges went up, it was a case

:02:58.:03:00.

Time to see what deals were to be had.

:03:01.:03:11.

events by some of their competitors, the company said it wouldn't impact

:03:12.:03:21.

As much as the sales start early I think people

:03:22.:03:24.

still like to come out and make sure they have that moment.

:03:25.:03:27.

It is the busiest day of the year for us.

:03:28.:03:31.

tradition, people come out and queue from early

:03:32.:03:34.

hours in the morning, they

:03:35.:03:35.

Elsewhere in the Bullring, trading was brisk.

:03:36.:03:38.

Some had come with Christmas money to spend.

:03:39.:03:45.

I got ?220 so I have got a little bit to spend. I am looking forward.

:03:46.:03:52.

Come down and get a few things and get back for lunchtime. It is OK.

:03:53.:03:55.

We have a really developed -- redeveloped station and also the

:03:56.:04:08.

tram and people find lots of ways to travel into Birmingham city centre

:04:09.:04:12.

so fruitful and sales have generally been positive. -- footfall.

:04:13.:04:17.

And proof that spending never goes out of fashion.

:04:18.:04:19.

Amy Cole, BBC Midlands Today, Birmingham

:04:20.:04:21.

Let's round the sport off with one rugby result and struggling

:04:52.:04:54.

Worcester failed to beat Bristol in the Aviva Premiership,

:04:55.:04:56.

And Rebecca, what do we have to look forward to?

:04:57.:05:04.

Today was a glorious Boxing Day and we have more of the same to come

:05:05.:05:10.

through this week. This stunning day and a stunning end with high

:05:11.:05:12.

pressure very much in charge as we had through the remainder of today

:05:13.:05:18.

and into tomorrow the winds will drop out. We will likely see a

:05:19.:05:22.

widespread frost as temperatures fall away. Some tricky driving

:05:23.:05:28.

conditions through the morning with that frost lingering but it will be

:05:29.:05:33.

dry and bright with good spells of sunshine. Still chilly temperatures

:05:34.:05:39.

3-5 C. The wind dropped outsole for Wednesday it will be a chilly day

:05:40.:05:43.

with temperatures not quite far but there will be some fog and that is

:05:44.:05:46.

how we continue for the remainder of the week.

:05:47.:05:48.

Finally congratulations to the four families who had Christmas

:05:49.:05:50.

day babies delivered at Hereford County

:05:51.:05:51.
