full coverage on BBC One of the European election results after the | :00:00. | 3:59:59
news where you are. Good evening. | :00:00. | :00:15.
The count for the North West's European Elections is well underway | :00:16. | :00:18.
at Manchester Town Hall tonight. Voters in the region went to the | :00:19. | :00:21.
ballot box on Thursday to return eight MEPs. Our political editor | :00:22. | :00:29.
Arif Ansari is at the count. What are you human? `` what is | :00:30. | :00:40.
happening? Is no official results yet but plenty of speculation and | :00:41. | :00:44.
unofficial results coming through. The first thing to say is that five | :00:45. | :00:47.
years ago, when we had the elections, the big news was that | :00:48. | :00:55.
Nick Griffin was elected one of our eight European MPs. It is very clear | :00:56. | :00:59.
that he has lost that seat and will be out of the European Parliament. | :01:00. | :01:04.
He arrived earlier at the town hall, where they are coordinating and | :01:05. | :01:07.
collating results from across the region. I gather that eggs were | :01:08. | :01:12.
thrown at him and he is inside the building but only to witness his own | :01:13. | :01:16.
defeat. The other big news is that the Liberal Democrats, who walk one | :01:17. | :01:22.
Mac of those seats, has also lost. `` who hold one of those seats. | :01:23. | :01:27.
Chris Davis has privately conceded that he is not going to hold the | :01:28. | :01:31.
seat. When we are likely to your more? I think they will announce the | :01:32. | :01:37.
Manchester pretty soon but they have to hear from almost 40 councils from | :01:38. | :01:45.
across the region. It is still probably about an hour away. From | :01:46. | :01:49.
what I have been told, we are going to end up with Labour winning and | :01:50. | :01:54.
taking three seats, with UKIP probably getting three and with the | :01:55. | :01:59.
Tories probably getting too. That means that the British National | :02:00. | :02:04.
Party is out, the Lib Dems are out and the Green party has probably | :02:05. | :02:05.
missed also. Meanwhile, Southport's Lib Dem MP | :02:06. | :02:08.
John Pugh is questioning Nick Clegg's leadership of the party | :02:09. | :02:11.
after local election saw them lose more than 250 local councillors. Mr | :02:12. | :02:14.
Pugh suggested a dozen of his Commons colleagues had expressed | :02:15. | :02:17.
doubts about the Deputy Prime Minister saying, "While the Captain | :02:18. | :02:20.
goes down with the ship, there's no need for the ship to go down with | :02:21. | :02:24.
the captain." But Cheadle's Lib Dem MP Mark Hunter told Sunday Politics | :02:25. | :02:28.
that it would be foolish to change leaders now. There is clearly a | :02:29. | :02:31.
problem about engagement, which we have acknowledged. We have to work | :02:32. | :02:34.
harder at getting that message across and finding other ways in | :02:35. | :02:38.
which we might be able to do it. But I do not think the idea of changing | :02:39. | :02:42.
leaders 12 months out from a general election... The idea that with one | :02:43. | :02:53.
single bound we can be free of all these problems and a new leader will | :02:54. | :02:56.
magically transform our fortune is for the birds. | :02:57. | :02:58.
One of the region's biggest animal charities has launched a campaign to | :02:59. | :03:01.
help prevent dogs overheating in cars. The Dog's Trust says there's | :03:02. | :03:05.
been an annual rise in the number of dogs dying in the North West, with | :03:06. | :03:09.
many owners unaware of the danger to their pets. They need to really | :03:10. | :03:13.
think about what they are doing when they leave the dog in the car. | :03:14. | :03:16.
Basically do not do it. Please do not do it. | :03:17. | :03:19.
Liverpool's first Rock and Roll Marathon and Half Marathon's been | :03:20. | :03:22.
taking place today. The 7,500 runners were greeted with live music | :03:23. | :03:25.
and entertainment at almost every mile. The event ` which was spread | :03:26. | :03:30.
across the city ` started and finished at the iconic waterfront. | :03:31. | :03:35.
Really nice out in the park. A good day up there and then coming along | :03:36. | :03:39.
the Mersey towards the end was perfect. Seeing kids, dog walkers or | :03:40. | :03:42.
people supporting their rain and their family. It feels great to have | :03:43. | :03:47.
loads of scousers cheering us on. It was brilliant fun. Lovely weather. | :03:48. | :03:50.
Lovely city to run around. Absolutely amazing. I am getting | :03:51. | :03:54.
married next Saturday and my bride`to`be is about an hour behind | :03:55. | :03:59.
me. She cannot catch me! In Super League Ben Currie's brace | :04:00. | :04:01.
helped Warrington to a `` Here's the weather with Mel | :04:02. | :04:08.
Coles. `` Here's the weather | :04:09. | :04:11.
Good evening. The showers are continuing to clear away but will | :04:12. | :04:14.
put in another appearance tomorrow. We should however see more in the | :04:15. | :04:18.
way of dry and bright spells. The showers this evening are losing | :04:19. | :04:21.
their momentum. As they start to clear away, clear spells will | :04:22. | :04:24.
develop elsewhere. We may see a few patches of mist and fog first thing | :04:25. | :04:28.
tomorrow. Tomorrow gets off to a largely dry start. Some bright | :04:29. | :04:31.
spells around during the morning. It is not until the afternoon that we | :04:32. | :04:34.
begin to see those showers creeping in. Some of which could be | :04:35. | :04:37.
potentially heavy and thundery. Looking ahead to Tuesday, some | :04:38. | :04:40.
showers around but it looks as though we might see some rain a | :04:41. | :04:45.
little bit later on. That's it from me. See you tomorrow. | :04:46. | :04:47.
Goodnight. Good evening to you. Tomorrow the | :04:48. | :05:14.
weather will be a little like a box of chocolate, you don't know what | :05:15. | :05:18.
you are going to get until you head out. The weather was clear cut | :05:19. | :05:24.
today, sunshine in the Midlands and the north. | :05:25. | :05:28.
Tomorrow, there's going to be a mix of everything across the country and | :05:29. | :05:31.
it will be changing a lot from morning into the afternoon and into | :05:32. | :05:36.
the evening. This is what the weather is going to look like in the | :05:37. | :05:40.
early hours, rain in the south-east, showers dotted around across western | :05:41. | :05:44.
areas, and as far as the headline goes for Bank Holiday Monday, we'll | :05:45. | :05:49.
call it sunshine and thundery showers, because they'll be hefty | :05:50. | :05:53.
later on in the afternoon on Monday. This is what it starts like in the | :05:54. | :05:57.
course of the morning. Note it is splodges of blue indicating the | :05:58. | :06:01.
rainfall. They keep changing and moving into different places, there | :06:02. | :06:04.
is a lot of sunshine coming through. In terms of the thundery downpours, | :06:05. | :06:08.
we think the worst will be through this portion here whereas across the | :06:09. | :06:13.
east, probably talking ability cloud and rain on and off with a bit of | :06:14. | :06:16.
sunshine | :06:17. | :06:17. |
