Welcome to North West Tonight with Beccy Meehan, and Roger Johnson. | :00:00. | :00:09.
The Government's accused of covering up the effects | :00:10. | :00:13.
Nobody wants to come and live near to a fracking site. | :00:14. | :00:23.
But it comes on a day when a poll shows more than half of | :00:24. | :00:27.
No cause for concern, claim nuclear bosses, after two | :00:28. | :00:31.
I've been talking to the married couple who, as the new owners of | :00:32. | :00:42.
Tranmere Rovers, have vowed to turn around the club 's fortunes. Nobody | :00:43. | :00:46.
wants a JP when she's 70. And the beak who ruffled some | :00:47. | :00:49.
feathers by singing in court. The Government is facing accusations | :00:50. | :01:03.
of covering up the facts about fracking after a report into | :01:04. | :01:06.
its impact was heavily redacted. 58 sections of a study called | :01:07. | :01:11.
"Shale Gas: Rural Economy Impacts", | :01:12. | :01:13.
have been blacked out. Ministers have defended | :01:14. | :01:16.
the decision, In a moment we'll talk to the Chief | :01:17. | :01:17.
Executive of fracking company IGas. First this from our environment | :01:18. | :01:22.
correspondent Judy Hobson. The report looks at the potential | :01:23. | :01:36.
impact of fracking on Burrell areas but some 58 sections have been | :01:37. | :01:40.
redacted. `` rural areas. The government says it is in the public | :01:41. | :01:42.
interest. The report looks at how drilling | :01:43. | :01:55.
sites could impact on property prices but three sections are | :01:56. | :01:59.
redacted. Today, environmental campaigners asked what the | :02:00. | :02:04.
government was hiding. I think the report is deeply worrying because of | :02:05. | :02:07.
the scale of the amount that has been blacked out, that has been | :02:08. | :02:11.
redacted. If we are to have a serious debate in this country about | :02:12. | :02:14.
the impacts of shale gas then we cannot have the government hiding | :02:15. | :02:18.
lots of the evidence from us. The report does mention a survey which | :02:19. | :02:23.
showed a drop of property prices need to age ruling well. It is a | :02:24. | :02:27.
subject being closely watched by those living near potential drilling | :02:28. | :02:30.
sites in the region. The retailer `` married Taylor lives in a house | :02:31. | :02:36.
where drillers want to start fracking 18 months ago. The sale | :02:37. | :02:43.
sell`through after agreeing a sale on the house. A week later, the | :02:44. | :02:47.
estate agent told me they were pulling out. They said it was | :02:48. | :02:52.
because of the fracking. She says she believes two sales have folded | :02:53. | :02:56.
because of fracking. This comes as another report today says there is | :02:57. | :02:59.
much support for shale gas exploration. 57% of those questioned | :03:00. | :03:06.
supported and 16% oppose it. But will the heavily redacted report | :03:07. | :03:08.
impact on how people view this industry? | :03:09. | :03:11.
We asked the Government for an interview | :03:12. | :03:13.
about the redacted report but they were unable to put anyone up. | :03:14. | :03:16.
But I did speak to Andrew Austin, who runs one of | :03:17. | :03:18.
I began by asking him about today's survey, which shows people are | :03:19. | :03:25.
And I asked him if he could understand people being | :03:26. | :03:28.
cynical about it, because it was commissioned | :03:29. | :03:30.
Well, I think that's why we used Populus to carry out the survey. | :03:31. | :03:34.
In fact on their website you'll find copies of | :03:35. | :03:36.
You will actually see, when you look through those questions, they | :03:37. | :03:41.
That is an important thing to add credibility to the report. | :03:42. | :03:46.
Do you think you're winning the argument, then? | :03:47. | :03:48.
At a national level, in terms of the need for gas | :03:49. | :03:50.
and domestically`sourced gas, I think we are winning the argument. | :03:51. | :03:56.
The industry is still working with local communities to give them | :03:57. | :03:58.
the comfort that this can be done safely and in an environmentally | :03:59. | :04:01.
responsible manner and with minimum disruption to the | :04:02. | :04:03.
When you are trying to reassure those communities, then, | :04:04. | :04:07.
how helpful or otherwise is it that the government releases a report | :04:08. | :04:10.
with more than 50 redactions under a Freedom of Information request? | :04:11. | :04:16.
That inevitably makes people think they are hiding something. | :04:17. | :04:19.
Well, I can't comment on the government report because | :04:20. | :04:22.
as you say, it was received under a Freedom of Information request | :04:23. | :04:25.
Obviously we like to be as frank and open as we possibly can be | :04:26. | :04:34.
but I'm sure there are reasons why those sections were redacted, and | :04:35. | :04:37.
we obviously spend a lot of time working with government and with | :04:38. | :04:40.
NGOs to make sure we have a sensible and honest debate about | :04:41. | :04:43.
what the implications of national gas from shale in the UK could be. | :04:44. | :04:49.
Will you be saying anything to the government to encourage them to | :04:50. | :04:52.
make these redacted parts available, to have that free and open debate | :04:53. | :04:55.
We will continue to work with the government to have a free | :04:56. | :05:00.
Will you ask them to make this report more freely available? | :05:01. | :05:05.
That's not my call, it is up to the government to make that decision. | :05:06. | :05:08.
I don't know what the redacted sections were, so I can't comment. | :05:09. | :05:13.
They are not hiding behind competitive advantage or any | :05:14. | :05:15.
kind of commercial reasons, they're are basically saying that | :05:16. | :05:17.
they don't want to strangle the debate at this stage | :05:18. | :05:20.
I think it's always best to have information out in public. | :05:21. | :05:25.
The debate is about giving local people comfort in | :05:26. | :05:32.
what can be done locally, to make sure that concerns are addressed. | :05:33. | :05:36.
Part of Heysham's nuclear power plant has been shut down | :05:37. | :05:45.
Two reactors will be closed for eight weeks as the power company | :05:46. | :05:49.
Crucially, they say the public has nothing to fear. | :05:50. | :05:53.
A defect at a nuclear power plant, an eight week shutdown. It sounds | :05:54. | :06:07.
alarming but EDF energy says we have nothing to fear and energy experts | :06:08. | :06:12.
agree. Let me talk you through the problem. This is a nuclear reactor. | :06:13. | :06:17.
Gas inside the reactor flows around the nuclear fuel, where it is heated | :06:18. | :06:20.
and then it travels to the boiler, where the water is heated. The water | :06:21. | :06:25.
turns to steam, the steam powers the turbines and the turbines create | :06:26. | :06:28.
electricity. Crucially the problem is not here in the nuclear core, | :06:29. | :06:32.
which might be alarming, but over there in the boiler. | :06:33. | :06:36.
So it's not in the nuclear part of the plant, it's in | :06:37. | :06:39.
That makes this potentially a commercial issue ` clearly, | :06:40. | :06:43.
while this is operating at less than full power it is costing money ` but | :06:44. | :06:46.
not a safety issue in nuclear terms because it is not actually close to | :06:47. | :06:50.
So, what is the impact of the shutdown? A shutdown which has | :06:51. | :06:57.
happened only once before at Heysham on this scale. The grid will lose | :06:58. | :07:05.
1000, 150 megawatts of power is. `` 1155. That can power around 1.5 | :07:06. | :07:10.
million homes. Fortunately that is happening in the summer, when demand | :07:11. | :07:14.
is low, so there should not be an impact on our bills. | :07:15. | :07:17.
Well, it's not great to turn off your nuclear reactors, so there | :07:18. | :07:20.
But I guess over the next couple of months, it is not the worst time | :07:21. | :07:25.
It might be a different kettle of fish if it was the middle | :07:26. | :07:30.
So, an eight`week shutdown starts on Heysham one. Heysham two was not | :07:31. | :07:42.
affected but the regulator will only bring it back into service when it | :07:43. | :07:45.
is satisfied it is absolutely safe to do so. | :07:46. | :07:49.
A Greater Manchester policeman's been charged with voyeurism | :07:50. | :07:51.
The investigation into PC Kevin Dwyer ` who is currently | :07:52. | :07:54.
suspended from duty ` relates to the recovery of a number of videos | :07:55. | :07:58.
believed to have been filmed in Manchester, Warrington and Chester. | :07:59. | :08:00.
He'll appear before magistrates later this month. | :08:01. | :08:02.
A woman's been praised for forcing a knife`wielding robber | :08:03. | :08:07.
CCTV footage shows her pulling him away from | :08:08. | :08:12.
the counter where he was threatening the shopworker, eventually leading | :08:13. | :08:15.
A 21`year`old man's in hospital with head injuries after the car he was | :08:16. | :08:22.
driving crashed into the side of Hopwood Hall College in Rochdale. | :08:23. | :08:25.
The crash was captured in these dramatic CCTV pictures | :08:26. | :08:27.
Police want to speak to the two people who were nearly hit | :08:28. | :08:33.
People on the Isle of Man are being invited to have | :08:34. | :08:38.
It would prohibit discrimination on age, gender and sexual orientation. | :08:39. | :08:44.
It's considered one of the most important pieces of | :08:45. | :08:46.
social legislation to be progressed in the Isle of Man in recent times. | :08:47. | :08:54.
Now, this little four`year`old boy behind us will become the first | :08:55. | :08:59.
patient to undergo new treatment for a rare inherited disease in | :09:00. | :09:05.
Manchester later. Jack has a disease which is a fatal condition that | :09:06. | :09:07.
causes progressive dementia in children. He is taking part in a | :09:08. | :09:13.
trial at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and our health | :09:14. | :09:17.
correspondent reports. Having a kickabout and a cuddle are just a | :09:18. | :09:22.
few of Jack's favourite things, but this little boy is also providing a | :09:23. | :09:27.
rare insight into a rare condition. The day he was born I knew there was | :09:28. | :09:33.
something wrong with him. I knew his stomach was always swollen, I knew | :09:34. | :09:36.
the way he slept, and I just kept taking him to the doctor. Jack was | :09:37. | :09:41.
born with San Felipe syndrome. As time goes by, he will forget the few | :09:42. | :09:45.
precious words he has learned and the validity to walk and play. It is | :09:46. | :09:55.
very hard, to communicate. `` and the ability to walk and play. We | :09:56. | :09:59.
just see him as our Jack, really. We don't know anyone else who has the | :10:00. | :10:04.
same as Jack. So we can't ask questions and stuff. The disease | :10:05. | :10:07.
affects just 100 children in the UK. Trials here will try to determined | :10:08. | :10:13.
whether a substance could slow down the build`up of chemicals in the | :10:14. | :10:16.
brain which causes the condition. Children often don't survive past | :10:17. | :10:22.
their early 20s, so we hope that the treatment will alter the course of | :10:23. | :10:25.
the disease so that we move away from that situation where we have | :10:26. | :10:30.
progressive decline and loss of skills. We hope to be able to try | :10:31. | :10:36.
and stabilise the disease. Jack and his family have travelled from | :10:37. | :10:39.
Sunderland because the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital is | :10:40. | :10:41.
world`renowned for research into red genetic disorders. `` rare genetic | :10:42. | :10:49.
disorders. It is inevitable that we will lose Jack but we will have him | :10:50. | :10:53.
for a bit longer if it does work and that is why we want to do it, to | :10:54. | :10:58.
make more memories. And Jack could help more children in the future. | :10:59. | :11:02.
Jack's condition is rare but his story is one that has touched many | :11:03. | :11:09.
people. This trial gives hope for potential for new treatments. | :11:10. | :11:13.
We wish the family all the best and all the best to little Jack. Still | :11:14. | :11:25.
to come tonight, a Rovers return for Mark Palios as the former FA chief | :11:26. | :11:28.
executive and his wife complete a takeover Tranmere Rovers. They like | :11:29. | :11:33.
their bit of justice from a younger bit of stuff. And the jailhouse | :11:34. | :11:38.
shock, a magistrate sings a protest song as she is forced to retire at | :11:39. | :11:47.
the age of 70. Next month, formerly in people will go to the polls to | :11:48. | :11:51.
decide the future of the United Kingdom. `` 4 million people. | :11:52. | :11:55.
Chances are you will not be one of them. The referendum on Scottish | :11:56. | :11:59.
independence is open only to voters living in Scotland, so you may think | :12:00. | :12:03.
it does not have anything to do with us. But a host of English | :12:04. | :12:06.
celebrities including Mick Jagger are begging Scotland to stay in the | :12:07. | :12:11.
UK. We went to meet one of them campaigning in Manchester. | :12:12. | :12:13.
You don't have to be a celebrity to sign... | :12:14. | :12:15.
Mick Jagger and Cliff Richard on the same bill. | :12:16. | :12:19.
Simon Cowell's name is there as well. | :12:20. | :12:23.
Their message to Scotland, according to TV historian Dan Snow, | :12:24. | :12:26.
You are in the wrong place, you should be in Scotland? | :12:27. | :12:31.
I'm not Scottish, it is not my decision, it is | :12:32. | :12:35.
What I am, though, is I'm from the rest of the UK. | :12:36. | :12:38.
The rest of the UK has been quite quiet about this and what we'd | :12:39. | :12:42.
like to say to Scottish people is, we hope you stay. | :12:43. | :12:44.
Nobody here has a vote, so you're not going to influence things? | :12:45. | :12:47.
No one here has a vote, all we're trying to do is let the Scottish | :12:48. | :12:51.
They didn't have time to sign, they weren't allowed to | :12:52. | :12:55.
If you sign this, we'll do a selfie for you. | :12:56. | :13:00.
..may have had an ulterior motive. | :13:01. | :13:02.
The owners of a shop selling Scotland's most famous export | :13:03. | :13:04.
It could certainly change the taxation, it could affect people's | :13:05. | :13:09.
Perhaps people would be a little bit negative towards it | :13:10. | :13:22.
There are great cities in Scotland, Glasgow and Edinburgh, that belong | :13:23. | :13:26.
The leader of Manchester council wants Scotland to stay too, but | :13:27. | :13:30.
could Scottish independence actually be good for the North of England? | :13:31. | :13:32.
As somebody who was born in England, I am an English Scot, | :13:33. | :13:35.
so I care for England as much as I care for Scotland. | :13:36. | :13:38.
At the moment everything seems to skew towards London. | :13:39. | :13:44.
After independence there will perhaps be a rebalancing in England | :13:45. | :13:46.
as they look towards the North as well little bit. | :13:47. | :13:49.
Scotland goes to the polls next month. | :13:50. | :13:57.
It's time for sport now and the football season got off to | :13:58. | :14:00.
But the excitement at one club went up a level today. Tranmere | :14:01. | :14:05.
And one of them is a familiar face in more ways than one. | :14:06. | :14:09.
Richard Askam has spent the day at Prenton Park | :14:10. | :14:11.
Mark Palios is the owner with his wife, is there much excitement about | :14:12. | :14:24.
his return to the club? Absolutely, many people will know Mark Palios as | :14:25. | :14:29.
a former chief executive of the football Association. He was also a | :14:30. | :14:32.
player here with almost 300 appearances. This is a sizeable | :14:33. | :14:37.
club, more than 6000 fans for the game on Saturday. It has fallen on | :14:38. | :14:40.
hard times but many fans do believe that the club has found the answer. | :14:41. | :14:45.
Mark has taken over, along with his wife, Nicola. The husband and wife | :14:46. | :14:51.
team Tranmere fans are pinning their hopes on to take their team forward. | :14:52. | :14:55.
I think it could be good for the club. Obviously there is money | :14:56. | :14:59.
coming into the club and the future is going to look brighter. Peter | :15:00. | :15:03.
Johnson has been really good for us over the last 25 years but it is | :15:04. | :15:07.
time to move on and I think he has probably found the right person to | :15:08. | :15:11.
take the club forward. Mark Palios knows Tranmere inside out. He | :15:12. | :15:14.
understands it as a player, administrator, is it an astute | :15:15. | :15:20.
executive of the Association, and businessman. `` this is him as chief | :15:21. | :15:24.
executive. The club clearly means a lot to him. This was the press | :15:25. | :15:28.
conference earlier today. We think we can leveraged the potential | :15:29. | :15:31.
around this array, nation of knowledge of sport, knowledge of | :15:32. | :15:35.
business and an awareness of doing things differently. `` through the | :15:36. | :15:41.
knowledge of sport. In recent years, the owner has wanted to sell but | :15:42. | :15:46.
only to the right people, as he made clear in an exclusive interview with | :15:47. | :15:50.
BBC late kick`off last season. What this club needs is someone like me, | :15:51. | :15:54.
27 years ago. I made a big difference here. So that wants to be | :15:55. | :16:00.
carried on but I think age is catching me up and I am ready to | :16:01. | :16:05.
move on. What about Nicola Palios? She is a highly successful | :16:06. | :16:08.
commercial lawyer and like her husband, a self`confessed sports | :16:09. | :16:13.
nut. How do they work together? We have a very different style of | :16:14. | :16:17.
working, but actually become meant each other quite well. Who the boss? | :16:18. | :16:21.
I couldn't possibly answer that question. That's you then. I will | :16:22. | :16:27.
let people draw their own conclusions on that one. Message | :16:28. | :16:34.
received loud and clear. Delighted to say I am joined by Mark Pangloss | :16:35. | :16:38.
now. At the end of that feature that we have just seen, with a twinkle in | :16:39. | :16:42.
her eye, your wife suggested that in the partnership she is the boss. `` | :16:43. | :16:48.
joined by Mark Palios. She was an Oxford blue, she did roaring in | :16:49. | :16:51.
Oxford and when you look at it, you realise she was the Cox, shouting | :16:52. | :16:55.
the orders are not doing the heavy lifting. So on that basis, yes. A | :16:56. | :17:00.
serious point, she did make this point as well, you bring very | :17:01. | :17:02.
different and confirmatory skills to the club. `` comp entry skills. What | :17:03. | :17:10.
is necessary at the club is to do a lot of stuff off the pitch. That | :17:11. | :17:15.
will go unseen. The business skills, the legal skills, and we both have | :17:16. | :17:19.
commercial backgrounds. That is what we will bring. If you like, I do | :17:20. | :17:24.
have the linking between the boot room and the board room as well. We | :17:25. | :17:29.
will have a pretty robust relationship, Rob and I, in terms of | :17:30. | :17:34.
what is going on on the pitch. But off the pitch, Nicola and I will | :17:35. | :17:38.
bring most help to the club. A unique, nation in many ways, fans | :17:39. | :17:44.
are fans and they want to see the best players that they can. `` a | :17:45. | :17:48.
unique combination. They will want you to buy the best players to get | :17:49. | :17:51.
back to League 1 as quickly as possible. Is it a more gradual | :17:52. | :17:56.
process? Not as simple as that at the moment. We finance the club and | :17:57. | :18:01.
we have two years, the breathing space to do the stuff off the park | :18:02. | :18:04.
which then starts to make the whole thing work here at Tranmere. That is | :18:05. | :18:09.
when you bring in what I call the secondary funding, to do that type | :18:10. | :18:12.
of thing. In the short term we have sufficient cash to supplement the | :18:13. | :18:17.
squad that Rob has but we will not be splashing the cash and buying a | :18:18. | :18:20.
lot of players. At the moment with what we have got, we think we can | :18:21. | :18:25.
make sure that Rob has the resources that he needs to ensure that we have | :18:26. | :18:29.
a good season in division two. Thanks very much indeed. And make | :18:30. | :18:31.
sure you listen to Nicola! It's been a mixed 24 hours | :18:32. | :18:36.
for Pemier League champions The good news first, | :18:37. | :18:39.
they've completed the ?32 million signing of French defender | :18:40. | :18:46.
Eliaquim Mangala from Porto. It's welcome news | :18:47. | :18:48.
for City who were second best throughout in yesterday's Community | :18:49. | :18:53.
Shield at Wembley where they went Now, there are few sides in world | :18:54. | :18:55.
football whose fortunes have changed A decade ago the club was | :18:56. | :19:03.
languishing in the depths of non`league, on Saturday came it's | :19:04. | :19:13.
first ever appearance in League One. Ian Haslam was there as the Cod Army | :19:14. | :19:19.
started the season with a 2`1 win A new season and a new division | :19:20. | :19:23.
for Fleetwood Town. They are well used to that after so | :19:24. | :19:29.
many promotions, only now they are Chairman Andy Pilley has | :19:30. | :19:33.
overseen the phenomenal rise. I've been looking forward to this | :19:34. | :19:39.
all summer, almost like a kid We intend to enjoy | :19:40. | :19:43.
our latest adventure. I always | :19:44. | :19:49.
like to have a cheeky look inside This is Fleetwood Town's changing | :19:50. | :19:51.
room, Including striker | :19:52. | :19:53.
Stephen Dobbie, who was at Blackpool He has had his shirt on | :19:54. | :20:00.
since two weeks ago. Ten years ago we were playing | :20:01. | :20:05.
in front of 30 men and a dog, Saturday's visitors were Crewe, who, | :20:06. | :20:09.
after two hugely successful years under Steve Davis, | :20:10. | :20:14.
struggled last season. Optimistic, happy with | :20:15. | :20:15.
a mid`table finish this year. We did it a couple of years ago with | :20:16. | :20:18.
youngsters so we might do it again. Here we are, | :20:19. | :20:24.
Fleetwood Town and Crewe Alexandra, We are about to get underway here, | :20:25. | :20:26.
glorious sunshine, Sizing up an opportunity, | :20:27. | :20:30.
inside the box and here is Vaughan, he has turned and swivelled | :20:31. | :20:39.
and tucked it in. Now it is on the left and side | :20:40. | :20:42.
with Proctor, who goes for goal. Right footed, | :20:43. | :20:45.
and he has put it in beautifully. It is our first game at this level | :20:46. | :20:54.
as a club, and I thought they We hit the bar a couple of times | :20:55. | :21:06.
and had two penalties and took one of them, | :21:07. | :21:10.
it could have been very different It is a good feeling to win | :21:11. | :21:13.
our first game of the season even Widnes Vikings say they'll work | :21:14. | :21:23.
with the Rugby Football League to investigate the violence that | :21:24. | :21:39.
followed their Challenge Cup semi The club's Chief Executive James | :21:40. | :21:41.
Rule has described the scenes as shameful and in a statement on the | :21:42. | :21:48.
Vikings website added that "It's imperative that everyone works | :21:49. | :21:52.
together to try and salvage what is Finally from me, | :21:53. | :21:56.
the National Football Museum in Manchester takes receipt | :21:57. | :22:01.
of a new exhibit tomorrow. The most famous locks | :22:02. | :22:04.
in football are the latest thing to go on display, former Blackburn | :22:05. | :22:06.
midfielder Robbie Savage has donated his famous or infamous blonde hair | :22:07. | :22:10.
after his recent cut. We'll have more on tomorrow's | :22:11. | :22:13.
North West Tonight. I did offer to donate mine. Let's | :22:14. | :22:27.
leave it there. You took the words right out of my mouth. Which one is | :22:28. | :22:35.
the question! Robbie Savage had more big blonde hair than I did, quite | :22:36. | :22:43.
jealous. Becky was among those taking part in the liveable | :22:44. | :22:48.
triathlon yesterday. How was it? Very windy and wet. A lot of | :22:49. | :22:52.
jellyfish as well. That's not me, by the way. That was the winner. Really | :22:53. | :23:03.
good fun. Really tough conditions. To me and the other people but | :23:04. | :23:07.
finished it, I think it was a good achievement just to get round in the | :23:08. | :23:11.
conditions. Well done to Liverpool as well, really good fun. I don't | :23:12. | :23:15.
feel worthy to be sitting on the sofa with you. Let's move on. | :23:16. | :23:20.
Sooner or later, we all have to retire. | :23:21. | :23:23.
Move on and let the next generation take over. | :23:24. | :23:28.
But when should that be and who should make that decision? | :23:29. | :23:30.
And now the rules say she has to step down. | :23:31. | :23:34.
But she doesn't want to and believes she still has a lot to | :23:35. | :23:38.
As Clare Fallon explains, she made a rather unusual protest about it. | :23:39. | :23:45.
SINGING: Nobody wants a JP when she's 70. | :23:46. | :23:49.
For 15 years she has been upholding the law but on her last day | :23:50. | :23:52.
in the job, Karen Henshaw took a stance against | :23:53. | :23:56.
rules and regulations, specifically the rules saying she is too old to | :23:57. | :24:00.
be a magistrate, by singing her opposition to the courtroom. | :24:01. | :24:05.
# When once your big brown eyes have lost their glitter... | :24:06. | :24:12.
Some people have said, go back in your box, you silly old bat, | :24:13. | :24:15.
But I think we should be given the option of carrying on | :24:16. | :24:21.
if we feel we have a lot to offer and we feel up to the job. | :24:22. | :24:26.
Most of us are being told we have to work longer | :24:27. | :24:29.
and there are some notable examples of people who have carried on past | :24:30. | :24:32.
Brucey kept on dancing into his 80s, the Queen, now 86, has only recently | :24:33. | :24:43.
And at 90, Sir Neville Mariner has this month become the oldest | :24:44. | :24:55.
Proof, according to Karen, that she's not too old. | :24:56. | :25:00.
As we are a much more ageing population, and people's health is | :25:01. | :25:03.
much better now, then I feel that eventually, the length of term | :25:04. | :25:07.
70 tomorrow, Karen insists she is not past it. | :25:08. | :25:16.
She hopes her protest song makes others realise that. | :25:17. | :25:20.
# No one wants a JP when she's old. # | :25:21. | :25:30.
She says new how to grab the attention, didn't she? Absolutely, | :25:31. | :25:38.
we wish her well. Now, we have had some unusual weather today in | :25:39. | :25:45.
certain parts? We have, we see it sometimes but not often in August. | :25:46. | :25:50.
Good evening, David Hewlett sent us these pictures of the coast, from | :25:51. | :25:54.
Blackpool to Fleetwood, very strong wind. It is a westerly wind, | :25:55. | :25:57.
straight from the Irish Sea, whipping up the phone, it looks like | :25:58. | :26:02.
it is snowing. Does not last very long but it is very impressive to | :26:03. | :26:07.
see. And I'm afraid as we go through this week, conditions are not going | :26:08. | :26:11.
to change much. Because we have got high tides and strong winds, I'm | :26:12. | :26:14.
afraid we do have a flood warning tonight. This is the Mersey stream | :26:15. | :26:17.
Warrington. Potential that there could be | :26:18. | :26:27.
flooding in the overnight period when we have high tide. The whole | :26:28. | :26:32.
week is unsettled, we have ex`hurricane Bertha out in the North | :26:33. | :26:36.
Sea, out across parts of Scotland. You can see the air circulating | :26:37. | :26:40.
around, coming from a north`westerly direction. Never great for us, much | :26:41. | :26:45.
fresher and cooler conditions and a north`westerly does tend to feed in | :26:46. | :26:49.
the showers. It has been the picture today, showers have lined up across | :26:50. | :26:53.
many places with thunder and lightning. They will continue | :26:54. | :26:57.
through the night. The wind has been gusty and continues to be gusty | :26:58. | :27:00.
through the night. It moves the showers through quickly but it makes | :27:01. | :27:02.
them very noticeable, though you could be woken up why them in the | :27:03. | :27:07.
night. Overnight temperatures 13 or 14 degrees. `` woken up by them. In | :27:08. | :27:12.
the more southern parts when you get up you could have some sunshine but | :27:13. | :27:15.
with the weather working through, showers will break out. The wind is | :27:16. | :27:19.
not quite as strong but still lively and adopter project of 17 degrees. | :27:20. | :27:28.
`` and a top temperature. It is falling rapidly. I have really | :27:29. | :27:31.
had enough of ex`hurricane Bertha. I wish she would not hang around. If | :27:32. | :27:39.
some are done? It will come around again hopefully. `` is some done? | :27:40. | :27:44.
Bags were watching and have a very good evening. `` thanks for | :27:45. | :27:46.
watching. 'Let's bring you...' | :27:47. | :27:56.
