Welcome to North West Tonight with Beccy Barr -

:00:10.:00:12.

Up to 100 children from Calais's dismantled Jungle camp are to be

:00:13.:00:17.

We'll be talking to a refugee - whose age was disputed -

:00:18.:00:20.

The man who led the inquiry into baby deaths in Barrow is set

:00:21.:00:26.

to investigate a community health trust in Liverpool.

:00:27.:00:29.

Do sportswomen still face an uphill battle?

:00:30.:00:31.

Manchester United are criticised for not having a women's te`m.

:00:32.:00:41.

We meet the human beatbox, as Manchester's young peopld compose

:00:42.:00:44.

North West Tonight can reveal that 100 children

:00:45.:01:05.

from the so-called Jungle camp in Calais could be

:01:06.:01:07.

We understand that 23 local councils have agreed to take the youngsters.

:01:08.:01:11.

The fate of unaccompanied children from the camp has been

:01:12.:01:14.

And questions have been raised about whether some of those who've

:01:15.:01:17.

arrived in Britain so far are actually children.

:01:18.:01:19.

Here's our Chief Reporter, Dave Guest.

:01:20.:01:26.

It provided a temporary - if far from sweet -

:01:27.:01:28.

home to thousands desperate to get away from the countries

:01:29.:01:31.

The Jungle was mired in controversy from its first day until its last.

:01:32.:01:35.

The French say more than 5500 people have been

:01:36.:01:38.

transferred to reception centres in the past week.

:01:39.:01:42.

Around 1500 of them are unaccompanied children.

:01:43.:01:46.

Britain's agreed to take some, but questions have been raised

:01:47.:01:49.

as to whether some of those who've arrived so far

:01:50.:01:52.

I've been catching up with one young man who faced similar scepthcism

:01:53.:01:57.

when he arrived here from Iraq several years ago.

:01:58.:02:02.

He'd arrived in the UK at the age of 14.

:02:03.:02:08.

His parents had been killed in Iraq and he'd hidden

:02:09.:02:10.

But as he turned 16, the authorities in Wigan

:02:11.:02:17.

than he'd claimed - they put his age at 20 and said

:02:18.:02:21.

I don't know why they don't believe me. I don't know. I can't do

:02:22.:02:35.

nothing. He spent time in a deportathon

:02:36.:02:36.

centre until a court ruled that if the authorities couldn't prove

:02:37.:02:39.

he was older, they had to accept he was indeed 16 and should be

:02:40.:02:42.

allowed to stay. He's just turned 23

:02:43.:02:44.

and has built a new life I work in a hairdressing salon. I

:02:45.:03:00.

have made new friends, settled in the country and learned the

:03:01.:03:02.

language. When the judge said, I am language. When the judge sahd, I am

:03:03.:03:08.

:03:36.:03:39.

:03:40.:03:42.

How do you think about how they are being treated us I think they should

:03:43.:03:48.

be treating them better. Do you accept that checks have to be

:03:49.:03:51.

carried out? That is right. It's not uncommon for people

:03:52.:03:59.

like Rabba to face such questions. According to the Refugee Cotncil,

:04:00.:04:01.

there were almost 800 Age Disputed Asylum

:04:02.:04:04.

applications last year. Basically that's where

:04:05.:04:05.

the authorities didn't believe the person applying really

:04:06.:04:09.

was under 18. It represents a 148%

:04:10.:04:11.

increase on the year before. But the numbers of unaccomp`nied

:04:18.:04:19.

there were nearly 3500 asylum applications from them

:04:20.:04:24.

in the year ending in June , So far, the UK has accepted more

:04:25.:04:33.

than 200 from the Jungle calp. The Government says

:04:34.:04:39.

it'll be taking more. And I understand, 23

:06:24.:06:27.

Not talking about Rabba's c`se, but how can we make

:06:28.:06:29.

The priority of the Governmdnt is to help unaccompanied children. They

:08:35.:08:36.

Smail Ayad is remanded into custody charged with their murders -

:08:37.:08:41.

he'll appear in court on the 15th of February.

:08:42.:08:55.

And alleges assaults on a volunteer at a charity shop, a man, a

:08:56.:09:07.

28-year-old man will appear at the four Liverpool magistrates tomorrow.

:09:08.:09:11.

The man who led the inquiry into baby deaths in Barrow hs set

:09:12.:09:15.

to investigate a community health trust in Liverpool.

:09:16.:09:16.

Dr Bill Kirkup has been brought in after a campaign

:09:17.:09:19.

She's been calling for an independent investigation into

:09:20.:09:22.

the Liverpool Community Health Trust ever since a damning report in March

:09:23.:09:25.

detailed a catalogue of failings, including one nurse being held

:09:26.:09:28.

at knife-point by a patient's family.

:09:29.:09:29.

We're joined now by our Health Correspondent Gill Dummigan.

:09:30.:09:32.

Gill, just tell us a bit about this trust.

:09:33.:09:36.

The trust runs a variety of community services, incltding

:09:37.:09:40.

mental health in centres and in patients' own homes.

:09:41.:09:44.

Now, in 2013 the MP Rosie Cooper's father was in a ward

:09:45.:09:47.

She was unhappy at his care, and while complaining was approached

:09:48.:09:52.

by a number of whistle-blowers on the staff.

:09:53.:09:58.

To cut a long story short, three of the top team

:09:59.:10:05.

including the chief exec were eventually resigned.

:10:06.:10:07.

The new management commissioned a report into what had gone

:10:08.:10:10.

It basically found that management were so determined to get Foundation

:10:11.:10:18.

trust from the Government they made huge budget cuts to the point

:10:19.:10:20.

where they were putting staff and patients at risk.

:10:21.:10:25.

There was a bullying, oppressive culture, they found.

:10:26.:10:27.

Some staff said they'd considered suicide.

:10:28.:10:29.

One nurse was even held at knife-point and sexually

:10:30.:10:31.

assaulted in a patient's home and nothing was done

:10:32.:10:33.

afterwards to properly re-assess safety policies.

:10:34.:10:34.

Now, after this came out, Rosie Cooper got

:10:35.:10:39.

for an independent inquiry into the harm this caused and

:10:40.:10:42.

Tonight, she told me she is delighted. I hope it will achieve a

:10:43.:10:57.

much better quality service for the people of Liverpool. The people

:10:58.:11:06.

cannot act this way without any sanction whatsoever. Justicd once

:11:07.:11:07.

sanction whatsoever. Justice once again will be served.

:11:08.:11:09.

But this trust is now being taken over?

:11:10.:11:12.

The Liverpool Clinical Commissioning group, which buys health care

:11:13.:11:20.

in the city, has put communhty health out to tender.

:11:21.:11:23.

It's previously said it wants to spend ?5 million

:11:24.:11:25.

a year less on these services from next year.

:11:26.:11:27.

Campaigners like Rosie Cooper are warning that this

:11:28.:11:54.

A new festival of light starts tonight in Blackpool,

:11:55.:11:56.

Some of the world's most respected artists have created a spectacular

:11:57.:12:00.

walkway to encourage visitors to get out of their cars.

:12:01.:12:02.

And for the next six days, parts of Blackpool are being

:12:03.:12:05.

Art with a heart as big as Blackpool.

:12:06.:12:09.

Along side its famous illuminations, the Lightpool event.

:12:10.:12:11.

Artists from across the world were invited to contribute

:12:12.:12:13.

to this festival of light, and Blackpool is the

:12:14.:12:15.

Is it is the original lights Festival.

:12:16.:12:18.

It has been going for over 000 years, it has such a rich history.

:12:19.:12:21.

It is basically one of the top on my list of places as a lhght

:12:22.:12:25.

More than 30 light art works have been created across the town,

:12:26.:12:29.

using iconic buildings to display work by some celbrated artists

:12:30.:12:32.

including John Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono.

:12:33.:12:33.

Hers will be switched-on this evening.

:12:34.:12:34.

Taking rock n roll references to new heights -

:12:35.:12:37.

Behind us, you can see the amazing pink ladder of a church.

:12:38.:12:40.

You won't see that in many towns, will you?

:12:41.:12:43.

And we are doing all sorts of things.

:12:44.:12:46.

So I think people should come over the next six days

:12:47.:12:49.

Blackpool Illuminations have been lighting up the resort

:12:50.:12:52.

Moving forward with each passing season.

:12:53.:12:54.

Many visitors drive through the lights.

:12:55.:12:56.

The idea is to get people coming out of their cars and to bring ` bit

:12:57.:13:01.

of a magic that is on the promenade of the Blackpool limitations

:13:02.:13:04.

into the town centre to get people walking,

:13:05.:13:06.

exploring the town in a different way, and to bring different sorts

:13:07.:13:09.

Lightpool, including large performances in St John's Spuare,

:13:10.:13:12.

like this one recently staged in Liverpool, starts

:13:13.:13:14.

And to light up your night, it's free.

:13:15.:13:17.

of the Premier League, sacked six managers and run up debts

Rovers fans have watched a succession of star players,

:14:39.:14:40.

:14:41.:14:42.

Little of that has been spent on new players,

Some supporters lost faith in the new owners

But, with the club now struggling at the bottom of the Championship,
