Good evening.

Police in Merseyside have stepped up patrols after two

shootings on Boxing Day.

In the first, four adults and a child were in the living room

of a house in Harefield Road in Speke when shots were fired

through the window.

Three adults in their twenties were injured.

Police say the address was mistakenly targeted.

Meanwhile a 27-year-old man was shot in the leg in Heyworth Street

in Everton and is in stable condition in hospital.

A 25-year-old man has been charged after a series of sex attacks

on women in Merseyside.

The alleged crimes took place on Sefton Park Road,

Brompton Avenue and in Sefton Park, yesterday morning.

Nuradine Jafar from Selbourne Street in Toxteth has been remanded

in custody will appear before South Sefton Magistrates tomorrow.

Wigan Council is calling for what it refers to as a "missing" part

of HS2 to be reinstated - a move which they say could slash

journey times for commuters travelling to Manchester.

The short stretch of track appeared on the original plans

for HS2 but was removed.

HS2 says removing the northern chord doesn't compromise the major

benefits the high speed line will bring to Wigan and Manchester.

A service has been held in Fleetwood to mark

the 10th anniversary of the Morecambe Bay

helicopter crash.

Seven men died in the accident.

This morning some of their families joined lifeboat

crews to remember them.

A decade on, the memories of what happened 25 miles off this

coast are still very clear for many.

Worst night of my life.

And to lose such a lovely man, a very good husband

and a very good father.

It doesn't seem like ten years.

Just like, I don't know, it has just gone so quick.

It's hard to comprehend.

As soon as we got the call we knew it would be a big college,

and it was search and rescue.

We usually take five people, but we took nine people that night,

but unfortunately there was not a lot we can do.

The helicopter had taken off from Blackpool Airport on the night

of the 27th of December 2006, destined for the gas fields.

Seven men died when it crashed into the sea in bad weather.

They included the pilots, Steve Potton from Blackpool

and Simon Foddering from Preston.

Rig worker Robert Warburton from Heysham was also among the dead.

It was so tragic, and the seven men went out to work one day

and didn't come back, so it has had a big impact.

I've been down here many times walking the dog or whatever,

and people are looking at it, and said did you know anybody,

and I say yes, and it's quite nice, and I think Steve would be really

pleased that we do remember him and all the other men.

Sport, and in the Premier League, Liverpool beat Stoke

City 4 -1 at Anfield.

The visitors an early lead, but Adam Lallana got the equaliser

and Roberto Firmino gave the Reds the lead just before half time.

Lancashire Head Coach and Cricket Director Ashley Giles

is set to leave Old Trafford in the New Year.

The Red Rose have given permission for Giles to speak to Warwickshire

after the two clubs agreed a compensation package.

Giles still had two years to run on his contract but wanted to move

back to the Midlands for family reasons.

It is turning into a very cold evening and night now.

We have got high pressure which has settled the weather down,

which means the wind is lighter, but it means we're seeing

a widespread frost tonight and it is already the start of mist

and fog developing.

Freezing fog patches are likely.

Difficult driving conditions out there.

And a very cold night.

Where the fog is, it means it will be slow to clear,

if it clears at all.

Where the brighter skies are, there is a difference

in temperatures, with a maximum of seven in the afternoon.

A cold day in general, and we will start to find it turns

a little mild as we get closer to the weekend.

It is cloudy at times due to the position

of the area of high-pressure.
