Welcome to South East Today, I'm Rob Smith. And I'm Polly Evans. | :00:00. | :00:08.
Tonight's top stories. Manston Airport faces closure under plans | :00:09. | :00:12.
that would see the loss of 050 jobs in east Kent. Are we seriously going | :00:13. | :00:21.
to write off the fourth longest runway in the country? We nded that | :00:22. | :00:25.
capacity now. We're live at the airport with the latest. Thd family | :00:26. | :00:29.
of a Kent man demand an apology from police after they found out his body | :00:30. | :00:32.
had been discovered via sochal media. For the whole of the public | :00:33. | :00:41.
to know before we did... I'l absolutely heartbroken. Also in | :00:42. | :00:44.
tonight's programme... Extr` flood defences installed at Dungeness | :00:45. | :00:46.
with flooding concerns sparked by the Fukushima disaster. Prince | :00:47. | :00:50.
Charles and Camilla visit Y`lding and pay an unscheduled visit to | :00:51. | :00:55.
Teapot Island. And the Sevenoaks photographer getting some | :00:56. | :00:57.
extraordinary images with hhs latest contraption ` the Beetlecopter. | :00:58. | :01:13.
Good evening. Manston Airport is facing closure within weeks. The | :01:14. | :01:18.
news emerged today after shocked staff were summoned to a spdcial | :01:19. | :01:21.
meeting and told a 45 day consultation would take place on the | :01:22. | :01:29.
future of the site. The airport s owners, Manston Skyport Limhted who | :01:30. | :01:32.
only took over the troubled operation in October, say that its | :01:33. | :01:35.
long`term financial future hs unviable. Mark Norman is thdre now. | :01:36. | :01:39.
Mark, this hasn't come as a total surprise? I think it was a | :01:40. | :01:51.
surprise, the announcement. We knew the company were considering the | :01:52. | :01:55.
future of Manston. We thought it was a future as an airport. We now know | :01:56. | :02:02.
that may not be the case. Pdrhaps a highlight of the last few ydars at | :02:03. | :02:06.
Manston, the arrival of the first KLM flight holding daily passenger | :02:07. | :02:10.
services to Europe. But it lay not be enough to save the airport. The | :02:11. | :02:14.
new owners here have begun ` 45 day consultation into what they call a | :02:15. | :02:20.
possible orderly closure of the airport. Devastating news, ` real | :02:21. | :02:24.
blow if the closure comes about I think it was one of the biggest | :02:25. | :02:28.
hopes that we had in the arda for jobs, which we desperately need And | :02:29. | :02:32.
operating airport, and expanding airport would have been really good | :02:33. | :02:37.
for the area. The news that it may close is terrible. I believd, have | :02:38. | :02:42.
believed, that Manston has ` future. So my first objective is to | :02:43. | :02:47.
make sure that Manston says open with or without. The problel is | :02:48. | :02:56.
attracting new airlines and the Government's that of support won't | :02:57. | :02:59.
have helped the business case. But some locals may miss Manston if it | :03:00. | :03:09.
closes. We need it. Wide? Bdcause it brings jobs to the town. It's just | :03:10. | :03:15.
depriving this area completdly. The whole of Ramsgate and Margate is | :03:16. | :03:21.
going downhill. Nobody is going anywhere. People are putting money | :03:22. | :03:24.
in and nothing seems to be coming out. But for some industry dxperts | :03:25. | :03:29.
this was always a day that was going to come. I fear there's a cdrtain | :03:30. | :03:34.
inevitability about it. If xou are a small airport on the edge of | :03:35. | :03:37.
south`east England and you have such strong competitors not too far | :03:38. | :03:41.
away, like Gatwick and Stansted I'm afraid the future doesn't look very | :03:42. | :03:45.
optimistic. But for now the future here is the next 45 days, after | :03:46. | :03:50.
which the company will have to decide what's next for Manston. Many | :03:51. | :03:55.
of the stuff I spoke to hear today were quite shocked at the ndws. Some | :03:56. | :03:58.
of them talked about the long history here, both as a comlercial | :03:59. | :04:03.
airport but also an airfield in World War I and World War IH. My | :04:04. | :04:08.
colleague takes a look now `t Manston's troubled past and | :04:09. | :04:13.
potential future. There has been an airport at Manston since 1906. Its | :04:14. | :04:18.
location, near the Kent coast, made it an ideal base for those hnvolved | :04:19. | :04:22.
in the defence of England. For the RAF, it played a key role in World | :04:23. | :04:27.
War II and for the U.S. Air Force it was an air command base in the Cold | :04:28. | :04:31.
War of the 50s. As the need for a military prisons there decrdased, | :04:32. | :04:36.
charter passengers moved in. In 1989, Kent International airport was | :04:37. | :04:40.
born. But even back then an`lysts were sceptical over its futtre. I | :04:41. | :04:45.
think it's a short`term solttion to the problem of finding room for one | :04:46. | :04:49.
or two charter flights. It's quite viable for that, but as a long`term | :04:50. | :04:54.
solution to the problems of airport and airspace capacity in thd | :04:55. | :04:58.
south`east, it's not a goer. A long string of charter operators have | :04:59. | :05:02.
come and gone. The most spectacular collapse being that of EU Jdt, which | :05:03. | :05:09.
meant into administration in 20 5 leaving thousands of passengers | :05:10. | :05:12.
stranded. Then there was flhght B, which ceased operations in 2011 The | :05:13. | :05:17.
question now hangs over KLM's twice`daily flights to Amstdrdam. | :05:18. | :05:22.
The difficulty for all the peripheral airport around London is | :05:23. | :05:25.
you have Heathrow, Gatwick `nd Stansted becoming the major | :05:26. | :05:31.
airports. I think they will continue to be sucked into those airports. So | :05:32. | :05:36.
what now for the 700 acre shte? There are big regeneration plans | :05:37. | :05:42.
nearby involving 800 homes, a school and community facilities. A | :05:43. | :05:45.
massively exciting side, a very large site that is exceedingly well | :05:46. | :05:49.
connected by road and will be to a great extent better connectdd by | :05:50. | :05:54.
rail, with high speed one trains, coming into a new station at Manston | :05:55. | :06:00.
Parkway very close by. So M`nston's future as an airport now appears | :06:01. | :06:04.
grounded, and it's destined to draw `` on the list of sites in Thanet | :06:05. | :06:08.
earmarked for redevelopment. Let's go back to Mark Norman in M`nston | :06:09. | :06:13.
now. The leader of Kent County Council there seems to be admitting | :06:14. | :06:16.
that the future for Manston may lie elsewhere? Yes, it's interesting how | :06:17. | :06:25.
the mood has changed. We he`rd from Roger Gell, saying it should remain | :06:26. | :06:28.
a runway. But gradually tod`y, people have begun to talk about | :06:29. | :06:33.
houses, factories, regeneration sites. Today in the budget we heard | :06:34. | :06:37.
George Osborne talking about help for house`builders. In parthcular | :06:38. | :06:40.
here in the south`east, talking about a new garden city at | :06:41. | :06:45.
Ebbsfleet. And Paul Carter hmplying that the enterprise zone at the old | :06:46. | :06:49.
visor site at Sandwich could be part built in with this site as part of | :06:50. | :06:52.
the regeneration of East Kent. But let's not take it away, this is a | :06:53. | :06:56.
blow. If this site were to close, politicians would really have to | :06:57. | :06:59.
think about how they would progress and regenerate what is a 700 acre | :07:00. | :07:06.
site. In a moment, the demolition men make progress on a perilously | :07:07. | :07:18.
perched cottage at Birling Gap. Welcome to South East Today, I'm Rob | :07:19. | :07:27.
Smith. The family of a Kent man whose body was found in the river | :07:28. | :07:31.
Medway are demanding an apology from police after they discovered the | :07:32. | :07:34.
news via Facebook and local news websites. Donna Burchell, whose son | :07:35. | :07:37.
Keiron Knowlden went missing on the 1st of March, says Kent Polhce | :07:38. | :07:40.
should have informed her imlediately that a body had been found | :07:41. | :07:43.
yesterday. Kent Police say the news was leaked without their knowledge | :07:44. | :07:46.
from the scene. Piers Hopkirk has our exclusive report. Piers joins us | :07:47. | :07:49.
from the place Keiron was found Piers, what happens now? For Keiron | :07:50. | :07:52.
Knowlden's family, it was the news they'd been dreading. But their | :07:53. | :07:54.
grief is edged with anger. Just the fact of never seeing him ag`in is | :07:55. | :07:58.
hard. But for the whole of the public to know before we did... I'm | :07:59. | :08:09.
absolutely heartbroken. As they waited for news on Keiron's | :08:10. | :08:12.
disappearance, they learned of the discovery of a body, not from the | :08:13. | :08:17.
police but friends who'd re`d it in the media. Let down, betraydd. At | :08:18. | :08:26.
the end of the day, it was bad enough having my worst fear | :08:27. | :08:31.
confirmed. Obviously, we nedded him to be found... But we had pdople | :08:32. | :08:41.
messaging us and ringing us before we were even told. Keiron wdnt | :08:42. | :08:45.
missing in the early hours of the 1st of March after a night out in | :08:46. | :08:49.
Tonbridge. His body was recovered from the River Medway their early | :08:50. | :08:52.
yesterday morning. The family say they only heard from the police some | :08:53. | :08:58.
hours later. Non`bus should have found out through the media like | :08:59. | :09:02.
that, they shouldn't have posted it online. My friends were alw`ys be | :09:03. | :09:06.
saying, I'm sorry for your loss before I'd even found out. @s the | :09:07. | :09:11.
family prepare for Keiron's funeral, they say they will be making a | :09:12. | :09:16.
formal complaint. Today, Kent Police say they were saddened that the | :09:17. | :09:19.
family heard the news group media websites, adding that members of the | :09:20. | :09:22.
press had been asked to del`y publication until relatives had been | :09:23. | :09:23.
notified. It's obviously a terribly traumatic | :09:24. | :09:37.
time for the family, what h`ppens now? The family tell me thex want to | :09:38. | :09:45.
know the exact circumstances surrounding Keiron's death. I | :09:46. | :09:48.
understand the result of a postmortem should be known by the | :09:49. | :09:52.
end of this week. Speaking to Keiron's brother, CCTV foot`ge of | :09:53. | :09:57.
his brother walking rather unsteadily along this footp`th here | :09:58. | :10:01.
on the night in question, hd says that wasn't the brother he | :10:02. | :10:04.
recognised, and he retains the belief that his brother's drink may | :10:05. | :10:09.
have been spiked. There will almost certainly be an inquest following | :10:10. | :10:12.
this death. The family say they want questions like that answered there. | :10:13. | :10:20.
The family of a British backpacker missing in the Far East for ten | :10:21. | :10:23.
years have been told that htman remains found in Cambodia are not | :10:24. | :10:26.
his. Eddie Gibson, from Hovd, disappeared in October 2004 and | :10:27. | :10:30.
Sussex police have been helping with the investigation. Now the family | :10:31. | :10:33.
have been left in limbo as to what happened to their son. The son of | :10:34. | :10:41.
the murdered pensioner Harjht Chaggar broke down in court today as | :10:42. | :10:45.
he described the moment he realised his mother was missing. Kuldish | :10:46. | :10:47.
Chaggar said he tried telephoning his mother twice on the day she | :10:48. | :10:51.
disappeared. The 69`year`old had been missing for 12 days last | :10:52. | :10:53.
September before her body w`s discovered in the basement of a Food | :10:54. | :10:57.
Store in Chatham. Three men deny murder charges and preventing the | :10:58. | :11:00.
unlawful burial along with `nother man. Kent police have been fined | :11:01. | :11:02.
?100,000 after highly sensitive information including interview | :11:03. | :11:05.
tapes with informants and vhctims were abandoned at a former police | :11:06. | :11:08.
station. An inquiry by the information commissioner's office, | :11:09. | :11:10.
which fined the force, found there was no guidance or procedurds in | :11:11. | :11:13.
place to make sure personal information was securely reloved | :11:14. | :11:25.
from the former premises. Pdople living near Dungeness say they've | :11:26. | :11:29.
been left were route after finding out both reactors were shut down | :11:30. | :11:32.
over safety concerns over flooding. A review following the Japanese | :11:33. | :11:35.
Fukushima disaster led to both reactors at Dungeness being closed | :11:36. | :11:38.
for two months while extra sea defences were installed. Defending | :11:39. | :11:45.
Dungeness, a new wall to kedp water out costing ?2.5 million, along with | :11:46. | :11:52.
beach defences. This is Dungeness post Fukushima. A review th`t | :11:53. | :11:56.
prompted a two`month shutdown last summer. But antinuclear campaigner | :11:57. | :12:02.
Barry Barkley, who is on thd Dungeness stakeholder group, say | :12:03. | :12:06.
they've been left in the dark. They've betrayed us all and I think | :12:07. | :12:09.
it's disgusting. They are stpposed to be very open nowadays and they | :12:10. | :12:14.
are not. The Fukushima disaster whether plant was hit by an | :12:15. | :12:18.
earthquake and tsunami leadhng to meltdown, led to some searching | :12:19. | :12:24.
questions here. The review concluded there was a theoretical but | :12:25. | :12:29.
nevertheless plausible scen`rio in an extremely rare case wherd water | :12:30. | :12:33.
could have got onto the sitd, potentially up to waist height. That | :12:34. | :12:37.
prompted the decision to shtt while extra measures were put in, like | :12:38. | :12:42.
this wall here. EDF did isste a statement last May saying unit 1 | :12:43. | :12:48.
was off`line for planned reviewing, unit 22 for improvements to flood | :12:49. | :12:52.
defences for extreme events. Both units were expected to be rdturned | :12:53. | :12:57.
to service that month. But lany feel that didn't make clear that both | :12:58. | :12:59.
reactors were completely out of action. Didn't hear anything, just a | :13:00. | :13:05.
little bit worrying when yot hear things like that. We heard ht was | :13:06. | :13:10.
shut down for a while, simply because we got family who work | :13:11. | :13:14.
there. People are confused because they weren't aware of it. EDF have | :13:15. | :13:19.
to reflect on that. The language we've used as language we'vd used | :13:20. | :13:23.
for 30 years. If there's more than interest from the public, wd see | :13:24. | :13:26.
that as a positive, then we'll need to review the language we use. We | :13:27. | :13:29.
are always welcome to feedb`ck from the public. If people don't and | :13:30. | :13:32.
stand the message, please ldt us know when we will change | :13:33. | :13:37.
accordingly. EDF stretches the site was never unsafe and is now | :13:38. | :13:41.
protected against extreme, dxpected to happen only once in 10,000 years. | :13:42. | :13:48.
Flood defences, enterprise zones, and a housing shortage in the south | :13:49. | :13:52.
east were among the key are`s targeted for Government help in the | :13:53. | :13:55.
chancellor's budget today. George Osborne said there would be an extra | :13:56. | :13:58.
?140 million to repair flood defence work, although little of th`t may be | :13:59. | :14:03.
earmarked for the south east. He also said he would extend bx three | :14:04. | :14:06.
years the business rate discount for enterprise zones, such as S`ndwich. | :14:07. | :14:10.
But arguably the most significant measure for the south east was the | :14:11. | :14:13.
confirmation that the Government would build 15,000 new homes at | :14:14. | :14:22.
Ebbsfleet. At this something he says the last government failed to do. | :14:23. | :14:25.
The opposition have said th`t they already announced the homes in | :14:26. | :14:31.
Ebbsfleet a decade ago. And they did make the announcement. Did xou know | :14:32. | :14:34.
how many homes have been buhlt since then? Less than 300. Instead, we are | :14:35. | :14:43.
going to build 15,000 homes there, put in the infrastructure, set up | :14:44. | :14:46.
the developer and Corporation and make it happen. Elsewhere, the | :14:47. | :14:52.
Chancellor announced it plans to raise extra revenue from high street | :14:53. | :14:56.
fixed betting machines, which are a big problem in the Medway towns by | :14:57. | :15:00.
raising duty to 25%. While bingo duty will be halved to 10%, a move | :15:01. | :15:05.
that's been welcomed by Southeast MPs who campaigned for a reduction. | :15:06. | :15:10.
There's good news for the south`east's air ambulance. George | :15:11. | :15:13.
Osborne will waive VAT on their fuel. Michael Fallon says hd | :15:14. | :15:17.
believes it is a good budget for the south`east. He had to stick to the | :15:18. | :15:21.
plan of getting the deficit down, it is coming down, but there's a lot | :15:22. | :15:35.
this for the south`east. We get new house`building at Ebbsfleet, that's | :15:36. | :15:36.
good news for first`time buxers This is good for business all`round | :15:37. | :15:38.
because there's more investlent relief for any small business that | :15:39. | :15:41.
wants to buy new equipment or plant. And it's good for savers, too. | :15:42. | :15:44.
Sabres, who had a hard time with low rates, they are getting an dxtra | :15:45. | :15:46.
incentive to save. Louise Stuart has been following the day's evdnts and | :15:47. | :15:50.
dislike in Westminster. Michael Fallon would say this is a good | :15:51. | :15:54.
budget for the south`east, but will people feel better off? That's | :15:55. | :16:00.
right, he would say that. I think people will feel a benefit hf George | :16:01. | :16:03.
Osborne does deliver on his promise to build more homes in Ebbsfleet. | :16:04. | :16:07.
But when you look at the other measures, the measures to hdlp | :16:08. | :16:11.
savers and pensioners, I thhnk George Osborne had a real exe for | :16:12. | :16:15.
those traditional conservathve voters are happy living in the | :16:16. | :16:18.
south`east, who felt that in recent years they've been left behhnd | :16:19. | :16:21.
because their pensions and savings had been eaten away at by the low | :16:22. | :16:25.
interest rates. I think it `lso had half an eye on the threat from UKIP. | :16:26. | :16:30.
He knows that in places likd Kent and Sussex, that's a real threat to | :16:31. | :16:34.
him. He is saying to those voters, come back to the Conservatives, we | :16:35. | :16:38.
will look after you. The re`l test will be if, in 14 months tile at the | :16:39. | :16:42.
general election, people re`lly do feel better. Nick Clegg said he was | :16:43. | :16:49.
pleased with the budget. But Labour leader Ed Miliband said that working | :16:50. | :16:52.
people were worse off under the Tories. You can find out more about | :16:53. | :16:57.
the Budget announcements by logging onto our website. Manston Ahrport is | :16:58. | :17:06.
facing closure within weeks. The news emerged today after shocked | :17:07. | :17:09.
staff were told of 45 day consultation would take place on the | :17:10. | :17:16.
future of the site. Also, gdtting a bug's Is view from the air. Amazing | :17:17. | :17:24.
pictures using a Beetlecam. As we end the week it's turning wdt and | :17:25. | :17:25.
cold. Work has started in earnest on one | :17:26. | :17:41.
of the coastguard cottages tnder threat of falling into the sea at | :17:42. | :17:45.
Birling Gap. The house, one of a row of five, is perched perilously on | :17:46. | :17:49.
the cliff edge. And after the storms and rain of the winter, which saw a | :17:50. | :17:52.
number of dramatic cliff falls along the coast, it has been deemdd to be | :17:53. | :17:56.
unsafe. Mark Sanders went to see the demolition begin. They are bringing | :17:57. | :17:59.
down the house. Work to demolish the end coastguard cottage started in | :18:00. | :18:02.
earnest this morning. This clifftop home has lost its unequal struggle | :18:03. | :18:05.
with the elements, and the cottage is being taken down before ht | :18:06. | :18:10.
crashes down. I think it's very sad. I've been coming down to Birling Gap | :18:11. | :18:14.
for the last six years. I think it's a shame. I'm sure it will bd that | :18:15. | :18:19.
long before the next one has to come down. If we have any more whnters | :18:20. | :18:23.
like we've had this year. The end cottage is in effect being cut in | :18:24. | :18:27.
two. Then work will be carrhed out to secure the building next to it. | :18:28. | :18:31.
Once that's done, the remains of the end cottage will be taken down. The | :18:32. | :18:35.
first coastguard cottages wdre built here in Birling Gap in 1817 and | :18:36. | :18:41.
rebuilt in the 1870s further from the cliff edge. But time has caught | :18:42. | :18:46.
up with them. The end cottage is having to go because the clhff is | :18:47. | :18:50.
dangerously unstable. There have been significant collapses here at | :18:51. | :18:55.
Birling Gap after the winter storms. Jeff and and Nash live near the | :18:56. | :18:59.
coastguard cottages. It is sad, guess, because gradually thdy will | :19:00. | :19:04.
all go. In years to come Birling Gap will be here any more. What with | :19:05. | :19:10.
Scotland going independent `nd England getting smaller, thdre won't | :19:11. | :19:15.
be much of England left in ` while! The first day of demolition is over | :19:16. | :19:19.
the painful process resumes in the morning. | :19:20. | :19:31.
After a winter of disruption and worry with flooding and reldntless | :19:32. | :19:37.
rain, people living in Yaldhng had something more cheerful to get them | :19:38. | :19:42.
out onto the streets today. A royal visit from Vince Charles and the | :19:43. | :19:45.
Duchess of Cornwall. They mdt many of those who were worst affdcted by | :19:46. | :19:49.
the floods, and then they took a trip to the unique tourist | :19:50. | :19:52.
attraction of teapot Island. Three months ago, the Prince and the | :19:53. | :19:56.
Duchess would have needed wdllies to visit this part of Yalding. | :19:57. | :19:59.
Christmas was cancelled for many of these families, but today they had | :20:00. | :20:06.
something to celebrate. At the height of the floods, water ran into | :20:07. | :20:10.
homes and businesses. The vhllage church was set up as a relidf | :20:11. | :20:15.
centre. Today the Church was where the royal couple came to offer their | :20:16. | :20:20.
support to those who'd been flooded. It's a big encouragement for the | :20:21. | :20:24.
whole village. It's a sign for everybody, get up, deal with it | :20:25. | :20:30.
leave it all behind, be poshtive. Today was also a chance to say thank | :20:31. | :20:34.
you to both the emergency sdrvices and volunteers, such as the Wilson | :20:35. | :20:39.
and juice and families, who got out in their canoes to rescue them a | :20:40. | :20:43.
dash make theirs. Joseph Wilson his reward is a selfie with the Prince | :20:44. | :20:48.
of Wales. He was in very good spirits about it. I took a photo and | :20:49. | :20:53.
he chuckled. He obviously found it quite funny that I'd just asked him | :20:54. | :21:02.
for a selfie. This family rtn Teapot island, and the Prince and Duchess | :21:03. | :21:06.
was so intrigued they deciddd on an impromptu detour to see it for | :21:07. | :21:15.
themselves. Look at these ones! Home to more than 7000 teapots, lany were | :21:16. | :21:20.
coded in mud when the waters rose. But the repairs are well under way. | :21:21. | :21:24.
The Duchess even decided to buy one, but why a camel? I like that one. We | :21:25. | :21:35.
couldn't wish for anything better. It gives us the opportunity to get | :21:36. | :21:43.
back to how we were. After Teapot Island, the royal couple crossed | :21:44. | :21:47.
into east Sussex, to the retreat would yacht Kipling chose for his | :21:48. | :21:50.
family at the height of his fame. Sitting at the desk of the lan who | :21:51. | :21:53.
was the writing royalties of his day. That had everything! | :21:54. | :22:06.
Charlton Athletic are out of the Championship relegation zond after | :22:07. | :22:10.
beating Bournemouth at The Valley last night. A late header from | :22:11. | :22:13.
Dorian Derveet gave Jose Riga his first win as boss and securdd only | :22:14. | :22:17.
the second victory of the ydar for the Addicks. Since taking over from | :22:18. | :22:20.
Chris Powell, Riga has led Charlton to two draws and a win. While in | :22:21. | :22:26.
League One, Crawley came from behind to hand leaders Wolves their first | :22:27. | :22:29.
defeat in 11 matches. James Henry's 25`yard strike gave Wolves the lead. | :22:30. | :22:32.
But, within eight minutes, ht was 2`1. Billy Clarke levelled things up | :22:33. | :22:37.
before Matt Tubbs chipped the ball over the advancing Wolves kdeper for | :22:38. | :22:47.
his seventh goal in eight g`mes A wildlife photographer from Sevenoaks | :22:48. | :22:50.
has invented a new version of his remote control camera buggy. Will | :22:51. | :22:52.
Burrard`Luca's original Beetlecam caused a sensation when it captured | :22:53. | :22:55.
spectacular, natural photos of animals in the wild. He called his | :22:56. | :23:03.
latest camera at the Beetlecopter. It has let him get pictures of big | :23:04. | :23:06.
game on the Serengeti that have never been seen before. | :23:07. | :23:12.
A hyena drugs are dead buff`lo over lunch in the Serengeti. Darhng | :23:13. | :23:18.
photographer? Actually, he's standing over half a mile away using | :23:19. | :23:24.
a remote control copter. Thhs curious cup comes up close to a | :23:25. | :23:28.
Beetlecam, a camera on a sm`ll buggy. They are both developed by | :23:29. | :23:33.
Will Burrard`Luca, from Sevdnoaks, and his latest invention is a | :23:34. | :23:38.
hybrid. I've combined the technology. This is a stabilised | :23:39. | :23:41.
camera gimbal, which keeps the camera, weekly level, even over | :23:42. | :23:48.
uneven terrain. We first filmed him two years ago in the early stages of | :23:49. | :23:52.
his Beetlecam project. An inquisitive lioness had mauled his | :23:53. | :23:56.
prototype, so he'd created ` protective shell from glass | :23:57. | :23:59.
reinforced plastic. Now he's selling his device is the world over to | :24:00. | :24:03.
wildlife photographers wanthng to emulate his photographs. His remote | :24:04. | :24:08.
control copter is give the stunning perspective on migrating anhmals. | :24:09. | :24:10.
The main drawback is the nohse levels. We'll is developing a new, | :24:11. | :24:16.
improved, quieter version which he hopes he'll be able to fly luch | :24:17. | :24:20.
closer to the wildlife he's filming. He will be trialling it in @frica | :24:21. | :24:24.
this summer, along with his new Beetlecam. As a child, Will lived in | :24:25. | :24:29.
Kent and Tanzania. His passhon for wildlife has always been thd driving | :24:30. | :24:30.
force behind his inventions. We've got Hale Pace like that by | :24:31. | :24:55.
the weekend. `` hail and thhngs like that. It was a fine, dry and settle | :24:56. | :25:03.
day`to`day. It was also quite breezy as well. The south`westerly winds | :25:04. | :25:12.
were picking up to around 20 mph. As we go into tonight, we will still | :25:13. | :25:17.
hold onto the winds. It's going to be staying relatively mild. Mostly | :25:18. | :25:20.
staying dry and a bit more cloud cover around. Certainly frost free | :25:21. | :25:27.
as we start the day tomorrow. For Thursday, a real shift in the | :25:28. | :25:32.
weather. More cloud cover, the winds strengthening and eventuallx it will | :25:33. | :25:36.
be turning rather wet. You can tell from the tightening isobars it's | :25:37. | :25:40.
going to be a blustery picttre. Probably the best of the sunshine by | :25:41. | :25:43.
the morning. By the first p`rt of the evening we will all be seeing | :25:44. | :25:47.
this heavy rain. But first thing it will be a mild and relatively bright | :25:48. | :25:51.
start to the day. A couple of showers around through the day. The | :25:52. | :25:54.
temperatures are certainly cooler than today. The south`westerly winds | :25:55. | :26:04.
still picking up to 20 mph. Gusts stronger along the south co`st. All | :26:05. | :26:08.
of us will see the rain for a time tomorrow night. It will movd through | :26:09. | :26:12.
pretty quickly because of the strength of the winds. Behind it | :26:13. | :26:16.
it's going to be significantly cooler. Temperatures dropping to | :26:17. | :26:20.
around three or four degrees. Where we see the clear skies behind the | :26:21. | :26:24.
rain. As we start Friday, the only rain around is going to be clearing | :26:25. | :26:28.
and behind it is going to bd fielding calls as well. You can tell | :26:29. | :26:36.
from the isobars it will be staying pretty breezy. The chance of some | :26:37. | :26:39.
hefty showers and the odd rtmble of thunder. Potentially a bit of a | :26:40. | :26:42.
wintry mix in the showers as well. It's going to be feeling cool. | :26:43. | :26:47.
Friday into Saturday, all of us will be seeing some rain for a thme. | :26:48. | :26:51.
Really chilly, frosty nights, someone to be showers around and | :26:52. | :26:54.
even temperatures during thd day aren't going to be feeling | :26:55. | :26:58.
particularly pleasant. But the really heavy showers, potentially | :26:59. | :27:02.
some hail mixed in and the odd rumble of thunder. We've had our | :27:03. | :27:05.
summer and it's back to winter! A quick look at the top stories The | :27:06. | :27:16.

this year and the next, in his Budget speech. Here in the | :27:21. | :27:25.
