Good evening. The father of an 18`year`old Sussex teenager who s

been killed in Syria says hhs son is a martyr. Abdullah Deghayes, who

lived in Brighton, died earlier this month while fighting in Syrha. His

friends in the city have re`cted with shock, saying they didn't even

know he was in the country. Ellie Price is in Brighton now. Ellie

Abdullah's father has said he's proud of his son? His father said he

found out about some's death via Facebook. He told us that hd had

tried to stop his son from travelling to Syria to join forces

fighting the Assad regime, but had been unable to do so. He sahd his

son had died for a just cause, and for that reason he was not `

terrorist. He grew up insulting and died in Syria. Abdullah Deghayes's

father said he had been fighting alongside his brothers. 20`xear`old

Amir said he had been shot hn the stomach in the same battle. He had

gone out to try to persuade his sons to come home. They went without

taking consent from their appearance, `` from their p`rents. I

am sad for the loss of Abdullah but at the same time I can feel some

comfort that he went for a just cause. Abdullah Deghayes went to

this high school. Tributes have been left on social media, and friends

said they had no idea he was even in Syria. He normally just goes to

visit family in Libya. He always seemed a happy person,

happy`go`lucky, really. It's just a shock, it really is. News of his

death comes after just another Sussex man died after driving a

truck bomb into a prison in Aleppo. Today, Abdullah Deghayes's father

insisted his son had not bedn part of any radical group in Brighton.

But was simply doing what hd thought was right. Do you think your son is

a martyr? Of course. I think as a Muslim that my son is a martyr.

Anyone who dies for a just cause as a martyr. Tonight we have hdard from

Omagh, Abdullah's uncle. He was held in Guantanamo Bay. He said he had

sacrificed his life in defence of children and that the familx's heart

will ache for ever. A 45`year`old lorry driver has been

released on bail after being questioned over Wednesday's crash on

the M26 in Kent that left two people dead and seven others in hospital.

It happened near Kemsing and involved two HGVs, two cars and a

van. Two French day`trippers, a 22`year`old woman and a 16`xear`old

girl, died in the crash which shut the motorway for much of thd day.

The Archbishop of Canterburx this afternoon held an open`air Good

Friday mass in the centre of Dover. The Most Reverend Justin Welby led a

congregation while carrying a cross through Dover town centre. Our

correspondent Yvette Austin reports. Bearing across, the Archbishop of

Canterbury symbolising the last journey of Jesus Christ. Behind him

a procession of Christians wend its way from Dover town centre to Dover

Castle. The end of a week in which the Archbishop has been in the town

visiting church groups and learning about local issues. One of the

things that has struck me as the sense of community here, and the way

people are pulling together. And the way all the churches in the town

have got together to meet the needs of the town. On the issue of

increasing numbers of migrants risking their lives to reach Dover,

he said he was working to hdlp. They are very often the poorest of the

poor. They need to be loved and treated with human respect `nd

dignity. The issues are immdnsely complicated that you are referring

to. What I know is that the churches are working around the world to

tackle the source of these problems. I was in Sudan in January. To bring

the possibilities of reconchliation so that people do not have that

desperate need which drives them to such extreme measures. The

archbishop made clear today he was a people's man and the people `` the

Today we have seen temperatures rising if Scotland but again

tonight, with the clear skies and light wind temperatures will fall

sharply, and for many of us, we are looking at a touch of frost. The

satellite picture tells a story nicely. This belt of cloud is

sitting in the far north-west of Scotland, we have had this cloud

bubbling up across eastern areas and with the northerly wind it has felt

cold in East Anglia. That cloud is going to melt away, we will get an

easterly breeze picking the cloud back in again later in the night in

eastern areas and we still have this cloud and rain in the far north west

of Scotland, but for most we will have clear sky, light wind, Ness are

the temperatures in towns and city, spin it round into the countryside,

you can see it is colder, close to freezing, it could be down to minus
