Welcome to South East Today. I'm Rob Smith. | :00:00. | :00:00.
And I'm Polly Evans. Tonight's top stories: | :00:07. | :00:08.
Mark Reckless' big gamble ` the MP who's quit the Tories for UKIP | :00:09. | :00:12.
admits he may not win the by`election he's triggered. | :00:13. | :00:17.
Maybe we should obviously move to UKIP as well. | :00:18. | :00:35.
We'll be speaking live to Mark Reckless this evening. | :00:36. | :00:40.
The unscrupulous trade in ptppies from overseas ` the vets faking pet | :00:41. | :00:42.
passports to bring unvaccin`ted animals into the country. | :00:43. | :00:45.
Rebecca Williams is live in Dover with our exclusive report. | :00:46. | :00:47.
Anne Barnes, Kent's Police `nd Crime Commissioner, is referred to | :00:48. | :00:53.
the Independent Police Complaints Commission over a car crash. | :00:54. | :00:57.
A sparkling start to her career ` the Sussex art student whosd | :00:58. | :01:00.
jewellery designs have been snapped up by a major high street chain | :01:01. | :01:05.
And the boys in blue who helped choreograph | :01:06. | :01:07.
the Olympic Opening Ceremonx bring their new show to the South East. | :01:08. | :01:21.
Mark Reckless ` the South East MP who defected to | :01:22. | :01:25.
UKIP on the eve of the Consdrvative Party Conference ` has concdded he | :01:26. | :01:29.
may lose the by`election he's triggered in Rochester and Strood. | :01:30. | :01:34.
Since the announcement, he has been out of the stredts | :01:35. | :01:36.
in his constituency saying he's felt increasingly unable to honour | :01:37. | :01:40.
promises made by the Tories including cutting immigration | :01:41. | :01:43.
Mr Reckless has faced an onslaught of criticism from his former Tory | :01:44. | :01:48.
He's quit the Conservatives and today Mark Reckless has written | :01:49. | :02:04.
his formal letter of resign`tion as an MP to trigger a by`eldction | :02:05. | :02:08.
Today, I am leaving the Conservative Party. | :02:09. | :02:14.
A rapturous reception at thd UKIP Conference, | :02:15. | :02:16.
not always matched on the streets by those who have supported him | :02:17. | :02:21.
I was in the middle of delivering leaflets for you yesterday | :02:22. | :02:25.
They are the ones that are left over and I'm not delivering | :02:26. | :02:30.
Especially as I was working for him right up to that second | :02:31. | :02:38.
There was a sense of betray`l, he had lied to myself personally, | :02:39. | :02:43.
to his association and to the electorate in Rochester | :02:44. | :02:46.
Mark Reckless insists he cotld not reveal his plans in adv`nce | :02:47. | :02:53.
The Tories are screaming at Mark Reckless, that it is betray`l | :02:54. | :02:57.
They have been betraying and lying to the country for years, | :02:58. | :03:01.
I understand Rochester and Strood Conservatives will mdet | :03:02. | :03:09.
on Tuesday next week to beghn the formal process of choosing ` | :03:10. | :03:12.
candidate date to take on Mark Reckless. | :03:13. | :03:15.
He said today he believes hd stands a fighting chance of winning, | :03:16. | :03:19.
but conceded he may lose and become a footnote in history. | :03:20. | :03:24.
In 2010, he had won the seat from Labour | :03:25. | :03:27.
We have never had a situation like this before. | :03:28. | :03:33.
So, it's predicting something that none of us have looked at. | :03:34. | :03:37.
I think that the mud`slinging is going to show all the divishons | :03:38. | :03:40.
Pollsters say UKIP's performance will be pored over. | :03:41. | :03:45.
If we look at their support as a whole, they do take votes from | :03:46. | :03:47.
all the parties, but it is clearly the Conservatives who are stffering | :03:48. | :03:51.
the most ` around about a third of UKIP's current support is coming | :03:52. | :03:56.
And voters will now judge M`rk Reckless's aim ` to cut immhgration | :03:57. | :04:03.
We've been out in Rochester and Strood finding out how people there | :04:04. | :04:13.
Two days ago you said you wdren t defecting and quite frankly, | :04:14. | :04:21.
And while I might be tempted to vote UKIP next time, I'm not going | :04:22. | :04:27.
to vote for him because if xou've done it once, you'll do it `gain. | :04:28. | :04:30.
He is under a great illusion if he thinks people are going to go | :04:31. | :04:34.
I think there's a feeling of betrayal and I think that people | :04:35. | :04:39.
It is not who, you know, his legal constituents have voted | :04:40. | :04:45.
for, so I don't think that's particularly good. | :04:46. | :04:48.
Doesn't bother me at all. I don t follow politics. | :04:49. | :04:51.
His points are fair, he said if Conservatives would have done what | :04:52. | :04:57.
they said they were going to do he wouldn't have had to defect to UKIP. | :04:58. | :05:01.
I would vote for him because he's now gone to UKHP | :05:02. | :05:07.
for the plain fact that it's a big step forward and I thhnk he is | :05:08. | :05:10.
going to help us positively all the way through the next few years. | :05:11. | :05:15.
Mark Reckless joins us now live from Strood. | :05:16. | :05:24.
You've been accused of being dishonourable, of lying to | :05:25. | :05:26.
colleagues about your intentions, of misleading your constitudnts | :05:27. | :05:31.
how can they trust you to continue to be a good MP? | :05:32. | :05:38.
Well, because I'm having a by`election. That is the re`lly | :05:39. | :05:44.
crucial point. Listening to some of the ladies just then, I agrde with | :05:45. | :05:48.
the sense of what they are saying. I think it only applies when xou have | :05:49. | :05:53.
an MP ` and this always been the case before ` who switches party and | :05:54. | :05:58.
continues to represent the same constituents in a different party | :05:59. | :06:01.
and doesn't give them a say. I understand why people would be | :06:02. | :06:05.
angry. People who voted for me ` I believe many people voted for me | :06:06. | :06:09.
because of my record in somd of the campaigns I fought on. Some people | :06:10. | :06:13.
locally voted for me becausd I had a Conservative label and that is why | :06:14. | :06:17.
it is important that I have a by`election so I'm honest whth my | :06:18. | :06:20.
electorate, so they get to decide what type of person is reprdsenting | :06:21. | :06:24.
them. Then they can look at my record, look at what I say. Do they | :06:25. | :06:31.
want to support me as UKIP or do they prefer to vote for somdbody who | :06:32. | :06:34.
has a Conservative label? T`lking about being honest to your | :06:35. | :06:39.
constituents, when did you start speaking to UKIP? How long have you | :06:40. | :06:43.
been saying you will honour your commitments to the Conservatives | :06:44. | :06:46.
whilst having talks with UKHP members? You can never disctss these | :06:47. | :06:52.
things in advance. The slightest whiff to the Conservatives that I | :06:53. | :06:59.
was thinking of joining UKIP, all the negative attacks you have seen | :07:00. | :07:04.
them releasing, that would have happened back then. Rather than | :07:05. | :07:08.
explaining the positive reasons you would have seen some of the negative | :07:09. | :07:11.
attacks we have seen over the last day or two. I want to fight a | :07:12. | :07:15.
positive campaign and focus on the local issues. That is why I'm | :07:16. | :07:20.
campaigning in Strood. The big issue has been traffic congestion. A lot | :07:21. | :07:27.
of people saying it takes two hours to get into work. We have a bus lane | :07:28. | :07:31.
down there and hardly any pdople use it. Let's open it up to traffic so | :07:32. | :07:38.
people can get to work, spend more time productively or with their | :07:39. | :07:46.
families. Let's... People nded to get to work. Let's go back to some | :07:47. | :07:50.
of the things you have been talking about. You are a die`hard | :07:51. | :07:53.
Euro`sceptic, you made it clear that Europe was one of the key issues in | :07:54. | :07:58.
your decision to defect. Last month, you argued that only the | :07:59. | :08:02.
Conservatives could offer an in`out referendum on Europe. Were xou | :08:03. | :08:05.
mistaken? Were you not tellhng the truth? Well, the Conservatives are | :08:06. | :08:10.
offering a referendum, but ly concern is it won't be a fahr, | :08:11. | :08:14.
straight in`out referendum that I want. The reason for that is the | :08:15. | :08:18.
Prime Minister is going to pretend to renegotiate our membershhp of the | :08:19. | :08:22.
EU, just like Harold Wilson did he will come back and the others will | :08:23. | :08:26.
work with him and they will say things have changed, it will be much | :08:27. | :08:30.
better, I have got this, we will do that, you may not like the DU, but I | :08:31. | :08:35.
have renegotiated and it is good for Britain. People won't know hf that | :08:36. | :08:40.
is true, but he hopes he can fool enough of the people for a small | :08:41. | :08:43.
period of time to win that vote and we will not have another vote for a | :08:44. | :08:47.
generation. We need that vote to be on fair terms and we saw in Scotland | :08:48. | :08:51.
how important it is for fair terms and it must be that we get that | :08:52. | :08:56.
straight in`out referendum so people can vote for an independent Britain. | :08:57. | :09:00.
On another point, in terms of the impression that you are givhng | :09:01. | :09:03.
people and giving a fair impression, UKIP has been proud to boast that it | :09:04. | :09:08.
is this anti`establishment party, you have been the face of the | :09:09. | :09:12.
establishment for four years. The more MPs that defect, the ldss UKIP | :09:13. | :09:16.
can claim that, can't they? Well, I don't know how long it takes to | :09:17. | :09:21.
become part of the establishment. I fought my seat here, it was | :09:22. | :09:28.
previously called the Medwax seat for ten years, I trampled the | :09:29. | :09:40.
streets and I have always tried to represent people, to get local | :09:41. | :09:44.
issues solved and to try and keep the promises I make at election | :09:45. | :09:48.
time. I don't want to be part of the establishment. People are fdd up | :09:49. | :09:52.
with Westminster politics. They want politicians who keep their word OK. | :09:53. | :10:01.
I joined UKIP to keep my promises to voters here. Thank you. | :10:02. | :10:05.
Our political editor Louise Stewart joins us from | :10:06. | :10:07.
Some interesting stuff from Mark Reckless, saying the Prime Linister | :10:08. | :10:15.
wants to fool voters over an EU referendum. What is the feeling | :10:16. | :10:21.
about his defection, partictlarly the timing of it at the Conservative | :10:22. | :10:24.
Party Conference? There is ` real sense of anger here. When the first | :10:25. | :10:30.
defection happened, the Conservatives were taken by | :10:31. | :10:33.
surprise. This time around, they are fighting back. They want to take to | :10:34. | :10:37.
fight to UKIP. He has been branded a liar by the Party Chairman Grant | :10:38. | :10:41.
Shapps. He said he lied, he lied and he lied again. They want to show him | :10:42. | :10:45.
as a man that cannot be trusted but there are still rumours that other | :10:46. | :10:50.
MPs may try and defect to UKIP. UKIP sources say to me possibly North | :10:51. | :10:57.
Kent MPs. One name that keeps being mentioned is Gordon Henderson, he | :10:58. | :11:01.
contacted me today and said that he wasn't surprised by Mark Reckless's | :11:02. | :11:05.
defection but he wasn't looking to himself and he didn't know of others | :11:06. | :11:09.
who were. It has to be said that there is a caveat with that, | :11:10. | :11:13.
obviously, as Mark Reckless said. If you are going to defect, yot will | :11:14. | :11:17.
not publicly announce it beforehand. Others may be thinking twicd because | :11:18. | :11:18.
of the reaction here. Thank you Half a dozen of Europe's best | :11:19. | :11:31.
golfers will turn their attdntion to the World Matchplay Championship in | :11:32. | :11:32.
Kent. There are fears that an illhcit | :11:33. | :11:35.
puppy trade, where unscrupulous vets are faking dogs' passports, | :11:36. | :11:39.
is operating in the South E`st. Both Eurotunnel and P ferries say | :11:40. | :11:42.
they've seen a huge increasd in the numbers of dogs coming into | :11:43. | :11:46.
the country, since laws werd relaxed and vets say dogs, that havdn't | :11:47. | :11:50.
been properly vaccinated, could lead The trade in puppy smuggling | :11:51. | :11:52.
originates in Lithuania, Poland The dogs arrive in Britain through | :11:53. | :11:56.
Folkestone and Dover, from where our home affairs reporter | :11:57. | :11:59.
Rebecca Williams now joins ts. You can see the port behind me. Any | :12:00. | :12:10.
animal being brought into the UK has to have a pet passport, showing | :12:11. | :12:14.
where it is fold, how old it is and `` where it is from, how old it is | :12:15. | :12:19.
and how many vaccinations it has had. The rules were relaxed to make | :12:20. | :12:25.
it easier for holiday`makers to bring animals into the country. | :12:26. | :12:28.
Those rules are now being exploited. I have been to France to find out | :12:29. | :12:30.
more. Eurotunnel pet check`in at 6.00am on | :12:31. | :12:32.
a Saturday morning. In the space of five minutes, five | :12:33. | :12:34.
large Lithuanian registered vans have pulled up here, all carrying | :12:35. | :12:36.
designer puppies. These vans have been monitored by | :12:37. | :12:40.
the authorities for months. The puppies inside have travelled | :12:41. | :12:50.
over a thousand miles As in most checks of this khnd, | :12:51. | :12:53.
the paperwork appears legithmate and We can only refuse them entry if the | :12:54. | :12:58.
paperwork and the dog That's the only point at | :12:59. | :13:05.
which we can say no. If everything matches up, | :13:06. | :13:08.
but we have a suspicion, we just have to report that | :13:09. | :13:10.
on to the authorities and they have Dogs need to be | :13:11. | :13:13.
around 15 weeks to gain a p`ssport, but experts say some that wd have | :13:14. | :13:18.
seen appear much younger. You have the puppies being | :13:19. | :13:22.
transported hundreds of milds from Eastern Europe, they are packed | :13:23. | :13:25.
in crates and are not given water Some of them will die | :13:26. | :13:30.
on the journey. This is expected and calcul`ted | :13:31. | :13:33.
for in the business. It is thought | :13:34. | :13:36.
the majority are bred in farms But sellers know they can command | :13:37. | :13:39.
a higher price for them in the UK. In both Calais and Coquelles | :13:40. | :13:47.
pet passports are microchipped are scanned but staff don't have | :13:48. | :13:50.
the powers to inspect the animals or The authorities believe somd | :13:51. | :13:54.
dogs aren't what they appear. Our concern is that that thdre are | :13:55. | :13:59.
unscrupulous vets in Europe who are signing dogs as having had `ll | :14:00. | :14:04.
the correct procedures, they've followed the Pet | :14:05. | :14:08.
Passport Scheme, and they are inserting microchips in a w`y to | :14:09. | :14:11.
these animals that they are easily And then they are sold on | :14:12. | :14:14.
as UK born and bred dogs. She found out Fifi was only eight | :14:15. | :14:20.
weeks old when she took it for a Her passport claimed | :14:21. | :14:24.
she was four months. I had been taking her to thd park, | :14:25. | :14:29.
to socialise with other puppies I had put her unknowingly | :14:30. | :14:35.
at great risk. Hundreds of underage puppies | :14:36. | :14:40.
like Fifi are seized by There is | :14:41. | :14:43.
a risk some can be put down. Others are kept in costly qtarantine | :14:44. | :14:47.
centres like this one to stop the spread of rabies, | :14:48. | :14:50.
but many dogs go undetected. But if animals are blatantlx under | :14:51. | :14:55.
the age of 15 weeks of age, in other words they can't h`ve been | :14:56. | :15:03.
properly vaccinated and therefore don't comply, then it is an offence | :15:04. | :15:08.
and they should not be coming in. The rules surrounding pet | :15:09. | :15:10.
transportation may be due to change in the coming months, but animal | :15:11. | :15:13.
welfare charities insist th`t as long as there's a demand for the | :15:14. | :15:15.
latest fashionable puppies, those As I mentioned, the rules whll be | :15:16. | :15:29.
tightened up from December. They mean that any pet passports will | :15:30. | :15:33.
have to be checked over by ` vet and they will have to have a lalinate | :15:34. | :15:37.
covering to stop people tampering with them. DEFRA says it will be a | :15:38. | :15:41.
more secure system but it mhght not necessarily crackdown on fr`ud | :15:42. | :15:45.
altogether, but they say thdy are working with the Eastern European | :15:46. | :15:48.
countries to highlight how hmportant these new rules are. Thank xou. | :15:49. | :15:51.
Almost 10,000 people visited Eastbourne Pier at the weekdnd | :15:52. | :15:53.
after it re`opened to the public following a devastating | :15:54. | :15:56.
fire in July, which completdly destroyed the main ballroom. | :15:57. | :16:00.
Visitors were able to to sed for themselves the damaged structure | :16:01. | :16:04.
and the work that has begun to restore the Victorian pier. | :16:05. | :16:12.

Thanet District Council say the details of | :16:15. | :16:17.
the procurement process havd changed and to be fair to everyone they have | :16:18. | :16:19.
The council say that the new deal shouldn't delay the planned opening | :16:20. | :16:23.
Interested parties have unthl the 21st of November to reghster. | :16:24. | :16:30.
It's been confirmed that Ann Barnes, | :16:31. | :16:32.
the Kent Police and Crime Commissioner, has been referred to | :16:33. | :16:35.
the Independent Police Complaints Commission over the insurance of a | :16:36. | :16:38.
car she was driving at the time of an accident earlier this month. | :16:39. | :16:42.
The crash happened a fortnight ago in Dartford. | :16:43. | :16:45.
It's believed Mrs Barnes's car was in collision with another c`r, | :16:46. | :16:50.
went through a fence and collided with a tree. | :16:51. | :16:52.
Piers Hopkirk joins us now from Kent Police Headquarters. | :16:53. | :16:55.
Piers, what more do we know about this matter? | :16:56. | :17:01.
Well, the crash happened on September 16th in Prince's Road in | :17:02. | :17:10.
Dartford. The IPCC told us today they will make a detailed assessment | :17:11. | :17:15.
of the referral to determind if and how the allegation should now be | :17:16. | :17:25.
investigated. We asked Ann Barnes for an interview and she declined. | :17:26. | :17:29.
We asked if her car had been insured at the time of the crash. Hdr office | :17:30. | :17:34.
told us she couldn't comment publicly because of the ongoing | :17:35. | :17:38.
nature of this referral. Thhs is another issue for the Commissioner's | :17:39. | :17:47.
office to be dealing with, three months with Kerry Boyd being removed | :17:48. | :17:52.
from public duties? We understand that she is on a three month | :17:53. | :17:57.
secondment working for a yotng people's charity based in Ashford. | :17:58. | :18:05.
Ann Barnes told us it would give Kerry an opportunity to explore | :18:06. | :18:09.
links with young people. We asked what would she do after her | :18:10. | :18:14.
secondment finished. She sahd a number of ideas are being c`refully | :18:15. | :18:24.
considered. The Rochester and Strood MP Mark Reckless believes hd could | :18:25. | :18:29.
be a footnote in history if his constituents reject him aftdr | :18:30. | :18:34.
defecting to UKIP. How the Blue Boys are bringhng a | :18:35. | :18:40.
collision of hip`hop and manga to the stage. | :18:41. | :18:42.
It stays dry and warm as we end September but things are turning | :18:43. | :18:46.
cold and wet as we start October. Join me later for the details. | :18:47. | :18:54.
Inspired by the Shard and the jagged skyline of London, Sussex jdwellery | :18:55. | :18:57.
designer Evie Armstrong`Clarke from Wadhurst has landed | :18:58. | :18:59.
a major coup ` with her collection going on sale in the high street | :19:00. | :19:03.
What makes her achievement really remarkable is that she is still | :19:04. | :19:08.
The winner is... It's not strprising she looks a bit stunned. Shd has | :19:09. | :19:27.
just won a major talent competition to have her jewellery designs sold | :19:28. | :19:35.
at Topshop. As you can see, it took me by surprise and they edited very | :19:36. | :19:40.
nicely out the chunk of swe`ring I did afterwards! Now her necklaces, | :19:41. | :19:44.
bracelets and earrings have pride of place on the shop floor in Oxford | :19:45. | :19:50.
Street. Designs appropriately inspired by London's modern | :19:51. | :19:55.
architecture. The London skxline is all about glass, especially The | :19:56. | :20:02.
Shard. I wanted something that was glass`like, reflective, almost | :20:03. | :20:04.
something that could distort clothes. Her concepts of having such | :20:05. | :20:13.
bright pieces based on the skyline of London is really appealing to our | :20:14. | :20:20.
consumers due to living in London and something niche for thel. I like | :20:21. | :20:25.
the shapes, it is interesting. So different. When you think she is | :20:26. | :20:34.
only just starting her last year as an undergraduate, it all adds up to | :20:35. | :20:38.
a major achievement. How untsual is it for an undergraduate to be as | :20:39. | :20:44.
successful as Evie is? This is probably the furthest`reachhng | :20:45. | :20:48.
project we have had in a yotng year group, so it is brilliant. She is | :20:49. | :20:54.
your most successful student so far? I think ` yeah. Have you cole to | :20:55. | :21:00.
terms with it now? No. Maybd I have but I don't ` it still feels if I | :21:01. | :21:05.
read something about the collection, it still feels outside myself. That | :21:06. | :21:14.
is nice for her! Yeah, it still feels very alien, but incredible. An | :21:15. | :21:17.
unassuming young designer of commercial calibre. | :21:18. | :21:29.
They helped design one of the most memorable moments | :21:30. | :21:32.
of the London Olympics Openhng Ceremony ` now award`winning dance | :21:33. | :21:36.
choreographers Boy Blue are bringing their latest production | :21:37. | :21:39.
The Five and the Prophecy of Prana, as their new show is titled, | :21:40. | :21:45.
combines hip`hop, martial arts and the style | :21:46. | :21:47.
Lucinda Adam went to find out more. | :21:48. | :21:57.
Do you know your house dancd from your crump? It doesn't mattdr. You | :21:58. | :22:07.
don't have to be an expert to enjoy the energy of this show. People can | :22:08. | :22:10.
expect something different, something that they haven't seen | :22:11. | :22:15.
before. Our aim is to give them something inspirational. Set in | :22:16. | :22:20.
modern Tokyo, it is a story of five young troublemakers whose lhfe of | :22:21. | :22:25.
gang fighting is turned arotnd by a motivational kung fu teacher all | :22:26. | :22:29.
portrayed in dance. From th`t, you see a transition. You see a | :22:30. | :22:34.
metamorphosis within them whth regards to their movement and | :22:35. | :22:38.
attitude. It brings that belief and that aspiration to life on stage. | :22:39. | :22:43.
You might not think you are familiar with their work, but do you remember | :22:44. | :22:47.
this? The huge dance party celebrating the digital age and four | :22:48. | :22:52.
decades of British music at the Olympics Opening Ceremony w`s Boy | :22:53. | :22:57.
Blue's collaboration with D`nny Boyle. It was meant to be a party | :22:58. | :23:02.
from the beginning to the end. The opportunity to see that grow and | :23:03. | :23:06.
turn into what it was ` I w`tched it on TV and it was awesome. London may | :23:07. | :23:11.
have an established hip`hop scene, but are Sussex and Kent ready for | :23:12. | :23:18.
it? Taking it to some regions which may not have seen hip`hop d`nce it | :23:19. | :23:21.
will be inspirational for the young people as well as for their parents | :23:22. | :23:25.
and anyone else who comes to watch it to say OK this is another way of | :23:26. | :23:31.
showing theatre. The show comes to Brighton Dome next week. | :23:32. | :23:42.
Golf fans who were glued to the Ryder Cup over | :23:43. | :23:46.
the weekend will get the ch`nce to see many of the European te`m | :23:47. | :23:49.
At least half the successful Europe team which beat the USA | :23:50. | :23:56.
at Gleneagles yesterday will be competing in the Volvo Matchplay | :23:57. | :23:58.
at The London Golf Club near Brands Hatch. | :23:59. | :24:00.
It's the 50th anniversary of the international event with a total | :24:01. | :24:02.
Neil Bell has been along to speak to the organhsers. | :24:03. | :24:07.
There are few more passionate sporting experiences than hhtting | :24:08. | :24:11.
Yesterday's hero, Jamie Don`ldson, together with many of his | :24:12. | :24:16.
triumphant European colleagtes, will meet up again in Kent in just over | :24:17. | :24:19.
a fortnight to compete against each other at the London Golf Cltb in one | :24:20. | :24:23.
of golf's most prestigious dvents, the Volvo World Matchplay. | :24:24. | :24:27.
I think the golf courses ard in great shape. | :24:28. | :24:30.
It's the 50th anniversary of the matchplay, so for it to come | :24:31. | :24:37.
to the London Club, yes, it will be a wonderful experience. | :24:38. | :24:41.
Like the Ryder Cup, golfers will be playing against each othdr, | :24:42. | :25:01.
There is an ebb and flow to these matches and this golf coursd, the | :25:02. | :25:06.
playing lends itself to the crowd being able to move freely bdtween | :25:07. | :25:08.
different holes and catch up on different matches as they move on. | :25:09. | :25:10.
It's a great atmosphere bec`use of that. | :25:11. | :25:12.
For non`golfers as well, it is an easy format to follow. | :25:13. | :25:14.
People know they are watching a match and somebody is winning | :25:15. | :25:16.
or losing. It is a great introduction to golf. | :25:17. | :25:17.
Previous tournaments like the European Open have been | :25:18. | :25:19.
held on the Heritage Course, but the World Matchplay will be | :25:20. | :25:21.
The spectator galleries herd are natural, they were designed | :25:22. | :25:26.
from the offset, so there's great viewing places where you can watch | :25:27. | :25:28.
three, four holes all from standing in one spot. | :25:29. | :25:32.
There has been some great golf played here over the last couple | :25:33. | :25:34.
of decades, but throw in sole of that Ryder Cup matchplay magic | :25:35. | :25:37.
Didn't September do well? It is It is going to be mostly dry, still | :25:38. | :26:01.
feeling pretty warm. Early fog first thing. The odd shower potentially | :26:02. | :26:05.
during the morning, but mostly we stay dry. Wednesday, we will be | :26:06. | :26:09.
seeing some outbreaks of rahn. We are dry for Thursday. Look what is | :26:10. | :26:13.
heading our way as we head towards the weekend. The winds are really | :26:14. | :26:16.
picking up. Some heavy rain by the time we get to Saturday. It is a | :26:17. | :26:20.
cold front. Also, it will bd heralding some much cooler `ir, so | :26:21. | :26:23.
the winds are going to be noticeable, they will be picking up | :26:24. | :26:27.
from a south`westerly direction We will see rain at times. And it will | :26:28. | :26:32.
feel markedly cooler. We will get to that in a moment. For today, | :26:33. | :26:38.
temperatures are still feelhng warm for the time of year. Highs of 8, | :26:39. | :26:43.
19 degrees. Normally, we wotld expect them to be around 16 or 7. | :26:44. | :26:47.
Into tonight, we will hold on to that cloud and clearer skies. Where | :26:48. | :26:51.
you see the clearer skies, we will see some mist and fog patchds | :26:52. | :26:56.
forming. It will be staying mild. Temperatures only dropping to 1 or | :26:57. | :27:00.
15 degrees. So, quite overc`st as we start the day tomorrow. Any mist and | :27:01. | :27:04.
fog will be quite stubborn to clear. Potentially, one or two showers | :27:05. | :27:07.
during the morning. Mostly for us, it will be a settled picturd. That | :27:08. | :27:11.
rain staying to the west of us. Quite a bit of cloud cover during | :27:12. | :27:15.
the morning. By the afternoon, we have fairly light winds, so where | :27:16. | :27:18.
you see the sunshine, it will be feeling pleasant. Temperatures again | :27:19. | :27:23.
perhaps 18 or 19 degrees. So, as we head through tomorrow night, it | :27:24. | :27:28.
stays settled. Quite a bit of cloud cover around. Where you see the | :27:29. | :27:31.
clearer skies, more in terms of mist and fog. Wednesday, we have showers. | :27:32. | :27:35.
Thursday is mostly settled. The winds will really pick up for Friday | :27:36. | :27:39.
and heavy rain by then. New month, new weather! Thank you. Before we | :27:40. | :27:46.
go, Inside Out investigates how Thanet District Council is cracking | :27:47. | :27:50.
down on rogue landlords to hmprove housing conditions. Thanet has a lot | :27:51. | :27:55.
of rental properties and with a lot of absentee landlords, not `ll | :27:56. | :28:00.
houses are being maintained. In one flat, the programme found a front | :28:01. | :28:03.
door that wouldn't open and faulty smoke alarms. You can see more of | :28:04. | :28:09.
that at 7.30pm on BBC One. H will be back at 8.00pm and at 10.25pm as | :28:10. | :28:12.
well. I will see you tomorrow. Wh`tever | :28:13. | :28:17.
you are doing tonight, have a lovely evening. That is it. Bye`byd. | :28:18. | :28:19. |
