The Government is being askdd to change the law to clamp down

on HGV drivers parking unsafely on Kent's roads.

The County Council wants to build a number of designated lorrx parks -

but says without a change in the law drivers won't pay to use thdm.

So, across Kent, we have thd problem of lorries fly-parking,

parking illegally, on the roadside, in the lay-bys, sometimes in housing

estates, and in totally inappropriate places.

To put a stop to this, the county council has proposed

building new lorry parks but wants change in the law to force drivers

What we want is the Governmdnt to pass a law to say,

if you are a HGV, you can p`rk somewhere from half an hour but

longer than that, you have to be in an authorised place,

One of the big issues we're being told is of the poor qtality

of facilities available and the lack oif facilities available.

We desperately need to find new good quality facilities for drivers

and I'm pretty sure that a lot of drivers will want to use them.

A huge lorry storage area is to be built near the cross-channel port

port to avoid scenes like this happening again.

Other lorry parks could be built across the rest of the county.

Reports are coming in of an incident involving prisoners at Lewes Prison.

The prison service says that the prison is completely secure

but staff are working to resolve an incident involving a small number

It says, "We are absolutely clear that prisoners who behave in this

way will be punished and cotld spend significantly longer behind bars."
