Hello, I'm Sally Taylor. Welcome to News at Six so it's

:00:00.:00:00.

Hello, I'm Sally Taylor. Welcome to South Today.

:00:00.:00:16.

In tonight's programme. Don't go to court ` take a course.

:00:17.:00:22.

Newbury is at the centre of a public health investigation after two

:00:23.:00:25.

people develop TB following contact with cats.

:00:26.:00:27.

It is not just an usual, it is unique.

:00:28.:00:33.

Beating the drop ` Pompey's latest manager steps up to the plate with

:00:34.:00:37.

this message. If there is a better person out there than me that can do

:00:38.:00:40.

it, go and get him. And a Billy Elliot moment for one

:00:41.:00:43.

teenager as steps on stage with other youngsters and the cast of

:00:44.:00:49.

Swan Lake. I am quite nervous, but quite excited because I am going to

:00:50.:00:50.

prove myself. It will be fantastic. Punishment or education, which is

:00:51.:01:08.

the best way to stop people committing crime? Hampshire has just

:01:09.:01:21.

become the first place in the country to offer some offenders the

:01:22.:01:25.

option of going on a new course to change their behaviour, instead of

:01:26.:01:28.

going to court. It's been developed by Hampshire's Police and Crime

:01:29.:01:30.

Commissioner and Victim Support. Our Home Affairs Correspondent Emma

:01:31.:01:33.

Vardy has this exclusive report. I heard a bang on my back fence,

:01:34.:01:35.

then another one. One night stranger who had been drinking broke into

:01:36.:01:38.

Karen's back garden, tearing down her fence. I was a bit scared, I

:01:39.:01:42.

didn't know if he had a weapon. The verbal abuse we were getting was

:01:43.:01:46.

disgusting. Police arrested the man who could have been sent to appear

:01:47.:01:50.

in a magistrates court all been punished with a fine. But officers

:01:51.:01:54.

told Karen, his identity we have changed, he could instead be sent on

:01:55.:01:59.

the new victims awareness course. If you were robbed in a street in my be

:02:00.:02:03.

that you avoid going in that area again. Offenders are taken through

:02:04.:02:07.

scenarios involving crimes like criminal damage, theft or

:02:08.:02:11.

anti`social behaviour, and asked to discuss the fact they have on

:02:12.:02:15.

identified but spoke to me we filmed didn't want

:02:16.:02:18.

identified but spoke to me afterwards. It was eye opening. He

:02:19.:02:24.

found out different things about how it affects others and people with

:02:25.:02:28.

you. At the moment Hampshire is the only place in the country to be

:02:29.:02:32.

putting offenders through these courses, but over the coming months

:02:33.:02:36.

they will be rolled out across other counties in the South as well.

:02:37.:02:40.

But there are warnings this new approach mustn't become Miss used.

:02:41.:02:45.

It is so important to look at who this is aimed at, for what type of

:02:46.:02:49.

offences, what is appropriate so identifying very clearly the

:02:50.:02:53.

criteria as to who should be offered this programme, what the

:02:54.:02:56.

circumstances should be, and to keep to that, not for it to slip. That is

:02:57.:03:02.

where continuous monitoring and evaluation is important to ensure it

:03:03.:03:07.

doesn't just become an easy option. Using education over punishment for

:03:08.:03:10.

those we spoke to has considerable public support. Forward`looking,

:03:11.:03:18.

moves away from the kind of state we were moving back towards in this

:03:19.:03:21.

country. I like it. Give them a bit of direction, instead of going to

:03:22.:03:27.

the magistrates. If you just downright perished somebody, I guess

:03:28.:03:32.

they are not learning anything `` punish somebody. You are not get to

:03:33.:03:35.

the root of the problem worries if you educate them you are likely to

:03:36.:03:40.

solve the problem. When you come home and you have got a massive

:03:41.:03:44.

black eye and facial injuries, how will your children react?

:03:45.:03:47.

Authorities will be watching to see how successful the approach of

:03:48.:03:51.

educating offenders about their effect on victims proves to be.

:03:52.:03:56.

Britain's only Green MP Caroline Lucas was in court this afternoon to

:03:57.:04:00.

defend her decision to take part in anti`fracking protests in the West

:04:01.:04:03.

Sussex village of Balcombe. The Brighton Pavilion MP was arrested

:04:04.:04:06.

outside the energy firm Cuadrilla's drilling site in August. But she

:04:07.:04:11.

denies two public order offences, maintaining her actions were

:04:12.:04:13.

"legitimate and appropriate", as Piers Hopkirk reports.

:04:14.:04:23.

From the Commons to the courthouse, Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas

:04:24.:04:27.

arriving to give evidence to date in her trial before Brighton

:04:28.:04:28.

magistrates. This was the moment she was arrested

:04:29.:04:41.

last August. She was charged with breach of the Public Order Act and

:04:42.:04:46.

wilful obstruction of the highway. Charges the UK's only Green MP has

:04:47.:04:52.

denied throughout her trial. Earlier that day she explained why she had

:04:53.:04:57.

chosen to join the five`hour sitting at the gates of the quarterly

:04:58.:05:02.

testing site. There comes a point where you feel as if the democratic

:05:03.:05:05.

channels are not working and it is legitimate to take non`violent,

:05:06.:05:09.

peaceful direct action which is what people are doing here today because

:05:10.:05:12.

the stakes are so high, nobody is doing this likely.

:05:13.:05:20.

David evidence she said I was exercising my right to peaceful

:05:21.:05:21.

protest. Caroline Lucas is on trial with four

:05:22.:05:48.

other defendants. Speaking on the court's steps this afternoon she

:05:49.:05:51.

thanked her supporters. The support has been amazing for all of us,

:05:52.:05:55.

absolutely fantastic, constituents writing to me, I know they wanted me

:05:56.:05:59.

to be here to make the case and I'm glad to be able to do that. All five

:06:00.:06:04.

defendants deny the charges against them, the case continues.

:06:05.:06:16.

Gay and lesbian couples in the South will be able to legally marry from

:06:17.:06:24.

tomorrow. But as last minute preparations are

:06:25.:06:27.

being made for the first ceremonies, the decision to legalise same sex

:06:28.:06:30.

marriage is still attracting some criticism. The change in the law has

:06:31.:06:33.

been fought by churches and other religious groups who say it will

:06:34.:06:37.

weaken the family as a building block of society. Rob Powell

:06:38.:06:38.

reports. Being able to call it a marriage

:06:39.:06:42.

rather than a civil partnership will stop. A very public run up to what

:06:43.:06:50.

this Dorset couple had once thought would be a quiet wedding. Kersten

:06:51.:06:54.

and Sue met last year. Next week they will become one of the first

:06:55.:06:58.

same sex couples in the South to legally marry. It is acceptance to

:06:59.:07:00.

finally be able to do what every body else can do. The change is

:07:01.:07:03.

especially important for Kersten, she is ordained as a priest in an

:07:04.:07:06.

independent fellowship. The whole gospel message was about acceptance

:07:07.:07:09.

and love. The Christians of this country could do with accepting

:07:10.:07:15.

those people. But many churches and religious groups fought the change.

:07:16.:07:25.

The concept of marriage as a place for procreation is lost. The family

:07:26.:07:33.

in its normally sends predating the state and as our base community of

:07:34.:07:40.

society is weakened. The Church of England now says it

:07:41.:07:44.

will mount no further resistance to same sex marriage. But gay couples

:07:45.:07:47.

will still find it difficult to marry in a church. Which is why

:07:48.:07:51.

registrars, like this one in Winchester, are getting busy. They

:07:52.:07:53.

will be using the same wording as a traditional marriage ceremony, we

:07:54.:07:56.

are talking civil marriage, not religious, so the same ceremony for

:07:57.:07:59.

all couples. Same sex couples already in a civil partnership will

:08:00.:08:03.

not yet be able to convert straight to a marriage. But legally, little

:08:04.:08:09.

is different between the two. The purpose of introducing the civil

:08:10.:08:13.

partnership in 2005 was to provide same`sex couples with those same

:08:14.:08:17.

legal rights. The difference that is being introduced now is more of a

:08:18.:08:20.

public perception, so that same`sex couples can say we are married,

:08:21.:08:24.

rather than we are civil partners. The South's first same sex marriage

:08:25.:08:27.

will take place in Bournemouth, tomorrow morning when a couple will

:08:28.:08:41.

be pronounced husband, and husband. One of the South's MPs is calling on

:08:42.:08:45.

the government to provide better compensation to fishermen badly

:08:46.:08:47.

affected by the winter storms. Funding has been made available to

:08:48.:08:51.

them for loss of earnings as well as money to replace any equipment that

:08:52.:08:54.

might have been damaged. The government backed bursaries will

:08:55.:08:57.

cover costs of up to five thousand pounds. But the Dorset MP Richard

:08:58.:09:01.

Drax says too much bureaucracy is making it difficult for fishermen to

:09:02.:09:03.

claim the compensation. The problem is they are having huge

:09:04.:09:05.

difficulty wading through all the bureaucracy to get the money for

:09:06.:09:08.

their lost kit in a recent storms. The MMO are getting work from the EU

:09:09.:09:11.

fisheries fund, but the paperwork and the time it takes, they will not

:09:12.:09:13.

necessarily get all the money they need anyway is putting the fishermen

:09:14.:09:17.

at a huge disadvantage. They feel they are up against this wall of

:09:18.:09:27.

bureaucracy. Dorset's Police and Crime

:09:28.:09:29.

Commissioner Martyn Underhill says more urgent action needs to be taken

:09:30.:09:32.

on where to place temporary traveller sites. It's costing more

:09:33.:09:35.

than a quarter of a million pounds but so far after three years of

:09:36.:09:39.

Dorset County Councils Gypsy and Traveller Strategy, only one

:09:40.:09:41.

temporary stopping site has been adopted, from a list of 300

:09:42.:09:44.

potential locations. And there'll be more on travellers in our current

:09:45.:09:47.

affairs show the Sunday Politics at 11.15 this Sunday morning here on

:09:48.:09:50.

BBC One. Still to come, modern royal visitors

:09:51.:09:56.

drop into the ultimate Victorian Royal Playhouse.

:09:57.:10:08.

Newbury is at the centre of a public health investigation after two

:10:09.:10:12.

people caught tuberculosis from their pet cats. They're the first

:10:13.:10:15.

ever recorded cases of cat`to`human transmission. The outbreak, which

:10:16.:10:18.

happened last year, saw 24 people screened who were linked to the same

:10:19.:10:21.

veterinary practice. Public Health England says the risk of

:10:22.:10:23.

transmission remains "very low". Nikki Mitchell reports. The alarm

:10:24.:10:35.

was first raised at this veterinary practice. This is fit and healthy

:10:36.:10:38.

but just over a year ago some people collect at with an abscess that

:10:39.:10:41.

would not heal. The vets took swabs and for the next few weeks nine cats

:10:42.:10:46.

in total tested positive, even the vet's and. Unfortunately my was on

:10:47.:10:53.

my lap and I felt a lump on his leg, was suspicious because we were in

:10:54.:10:56.

the middle of a blunt chair of cases, but it and he turned out to

:10:57.:11:02.

have TB as well for the tab and? We treated him and he was responding

:11:03.:11:06.

very well, x`rayed his chest again and all the lesions had cleared up.

:11:07.:11:09.

The lump had been removed. While he was still on treatment he

:11:10.:11:15.

unfortunately went missing. As this is the first documented case of

:11:16.:11:19.

people catching bovine TB from cats the testing has been progress. The

:11:20.:11:24.

results and conclusions had to be checked, double`checked and checked

:11:25.:11:28.

again by scientists for various different organisations, and that is

:11:29.:11:31.

while we are only hearing about this now. More than a year after the

:11:32.:11:35.

first infected cat was brought in here. The strain of the disease

:11:36.:11:41.

found in caps and people here was the same as the one found in our

:11:42.:11:47.

rates `` in cattle on Greenham Common. Cattle in the area have been

:11:48.:11:55.

tested and TB reactors were found amongst cattle on the common land

:11:56.:11:59.

and certainly at least one of them had the disease. Some of this man's

:12:00.:12:05.

cattle were among those slaughtered. Public health officials

:12:06.:12:13.

and he believe wildlife have been to blame. Neither badger nor do have

:12:14.:12:20.

got a top predators are the numbers are increasing and it is spreading

:12:21.:12:25.

across the country. We don't want to panic people but we would like

:12:26.:12:29.

people to be aware that if they have a cat with a lesion, is chronically

:12:30.:12:33.

ill, they really should seek some help. People shouldn't be worried.

:12:34.:12:40.

TB is curable, best to get it early, so the onus doesn't get too bad. It

:12:41.:12:44.

also stops letting it on to other people for top the symptoms people

:12:45.:12:49.

see can be a cough which lasts for several weeks, night sweats, loss of

:12:50.:12:53.

appetite. Officials are keen to stress there have been no new cases

:12:54.:12:57.

of bovine TB in pets or people here for one year . It was the ultimate

:12:58.:13:05.

Victorian playhouse, a Swiss chalet in the grounds of Queen Victoria's

:13:06.:13:08.

Isle of Wight home, Osborne House. The Swiss Cottage was built by

:13:09.:13:11.

Victoria and her husband Prince Albert for their children to play in

:13:12.:13:15.

and learn about ordinary life. It's just been renovated by English

:13:16.:13:19.

Heritage. Today, another Royal couple, Prince Edward and the

:13:20.:13:22.

Countess of Wessex, paid a visit to see the work. We sent James Ingham

:13:23.:13:29.

along too. A royal visit to a royal

:13:30.:13:34.

playground, in a royal house. The Earl and Countess of Wessex were

:13:35.:13:37.

guests of honour as English Heritage unveiled a major piece of

:13:38.:13:42.

conservation. The Swiss Cottage at Osborne house played a big part in

:13:43.:13:46.

the childhoods of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's children. Today

:13:47.:13:50.

restored and exhibited for a new generation. On their visit to the

:13:51.:13:56.

main house they paid particular attention to photograph albums of

:13:57.:14:00.

the royal ancestors here at the Swiss Cottage Prince Edward will be

:14:01.:14:04.

able to see where his great, great grandfather once played with his

:14:05.:14:09.

brothers and sisters. Victoria and Albert wanted to create a miniature

:14:10.:14:12.

world for their children where they could have a haven to themselves.

:14:13.:14:17.

And space to express themselves be children. We have some fantastic

:14:18.:14:23.

anecdotes about what the children were doing, often from their own

:14:24.:14:28.

letters. Dear Prince Albert, Osborne, June three, 1858. Alice

:14:29.:14:33.

made a pancake yesterday as Swiss Cottage, I have none of it. I was

:14:34.:14:40.

out driving with mother. I called a butterfly at the Swiss Cottage. I

:14:41.:14:48.

got very wet. My next letter will be in French. Offer. Letters as well as

:14:49.:14:56.

diaries and paintings have revealed intimate stories which historians

:14:57.:14:59.

have tried to bring to life. It was all done for a purpose, there was

:15:00.:15:04.

always this educational element, all the activities, cooking, gardening,

:15:05.:15:08.

with the gardening the children all grew the same produce, the same

:15:09.:15:10.

vegetables and fruit in their garden plot, Albert wanted to make it into

:15:11.:15:17.

a competition, he bought the produce and market price said they are

:15:18.:15:21.

learning things as they are getting involved in activities. So a view

:15:22.:15:25.

into a prince's pass, one visitors will see as well now this pain

:15:26.:15:32.

staking project is complete. It looks stunning. Onto sport.

:15:33.:15:43.

Pompey sat their manager. It is only four years since

:15:44.:15:46.

Portsmouth were a Premier league side, playing in the FA Cup final,

:15:47.:15:50.

look about it is now. Here's the table. Portsmouth hover just above

:15:51.:15:55.

the bottom two as they start life after Richie Barker, who was fired

:15:56.:15:57.

yesterday. Tomorrow they're at Newport in another critical League

:15:58.:16:01.

Two fixture. I've been to chat to Caretaker boss Andy Awford who's

:16:02.:16:04.

issued a passionate rallying cry to the Pompey faithful.

:16:05.:16:10.

He is Portsmouth ruler through with more than 300 appearances for the

:16:11.:16:15.

club, he knows what this season boils down to. We have to stay in

:16:16.:16:19.

the football league, it is as simple as that and we will be going all out

:16:20.:16:23.

to try and do that and unite everybody together to give us the

:16:24.:16:26.

best possible chance. He was on the training ground with Paul Hardiman

:16:27.:16:32.

and Alan McLaughlin this morning. How big a challenge is this? The

:16:33.:16:37.

biggest. Simple. The hardest and biggest challenge, if we do achieve

:16:38.:16:43.

it as a group. It will not be a parade around the time because we

:16:44.:16:46.

shouldn't be here anyway. We should be a lot higher up the league than

:16:47.:16:51.

we are. He can draw on experience. He was a member of Alan Ball's side

:16:52.:16:55.

which afforded almost certain relegation in 1998. 16 years ago he

:16:56.:17:02.

was speaking about the late Pompey's favourite's impact. We have

:17:03.:17:11.

produced goods. The main thing is the fans have been fantastic. I said

:17:12.:17:18.

to the board, I haven't told anybody this, I said if there is a better

:17:19.:17:24.

person out there than me that can do it, go and get him, because it is

:17:25.:17:27.

not about me, it is about this football club surviving for top I'd

:17:28.:17:31.

used Allen as an example, I said if he were still alive I would be

:17:32.:17:35.

getting him in here myself because he is the type we need. He takes the

:17:36.:17:39.

team to Newport which has stood at a crucial time. They have lost three

:17:40.:17:42.

in a row and scored one goal in 540 minutes. They need to be allowed to

:17:43.:17:47.

express themselves a bit more, especially in the final third, be

:17:48.:17:51.

allowed to take a few more risks on the pitch. Danny Hollins has arrived

:17:52.:17:55.

on loan from Charlton while Ryan Bird has returned from a stint at

:17:56.:18:00.

Cambridge. It is all hands on deck now to prevent Portsmouth sinking to

:18:01.:18:04.

a all`time low. The full interview is on the BBC website and actually

:18:05.:18:10.

it is getting a lot of attention and social media.

:18:11.:18:12.

Meanwhile Southampton host Newcastle tomorrow in the Premier League.

:18:13.:18:15.

Former boss Alan Pardew returns to St Mary's but must stay in the

:18:16.:18:19.

stands due to a touchline ban. In the Championship Bournemouth's

:18:20.:18:21.

unlikely play off push takes them to Birmingham. Eddie Howe's side have

:18:22.:18:25.

lost only one in seven. Reading must hope their dreadful home form

:18:26.:18:27.

improves when they host Huddersfield. Brighton host

:18:28.:18:29.

Middlesbrough. In League One leaders Wolves are at MK Dons. Swindon host

:18:30.:18:32.

cup semi`finalists Sheffield United. Gary Waddock is looking for his

:18:33.:18:36.

first win as Oxford head coach on the road at Dagenham and Redbridge.

:18:37.:18:39.

BBC Local radio has commentary of all those games.

:18:40.:18:42.

On this week's Late Kick Off former Bournemouth midfielder Wade Elliott

:18:43.:18:44.

is our special guest alongside Reading legend Ady Williams. We'll

:18:45.:18:54.

have the latest twists and turns of the Football League campaign and a

:18:55.:18:57.

focus on grassroots football after this week's announcement of a cut in

:18:58.:19:00.

funding for the game from Sport England. Late Kick off this Monday

:19:01.:19:04.

at 11.20 here on BBC One. Last week we had the story of

:19:05.:19:07.

Gosport Borough playing at Wembley in the FA Trophy final. Tomorrow

:19:08.:19:10.

Sholing will hope to emulate them in the FA Vase. They play the first leg

:19:11.:19:14.

of their semi final against Eastbourne tomorrow. Kick off is

:19:15.:19:17.

three o'clock, BBC Radio Solent has reports.

:19:18.:19:19.

Reading Rockets will hope to seal the English Basketball League title

:19:20.:19:21.

tomorrow when they travel to Worthing Thunder.

:19:22.:19:28.

Do you remember what you wanted to be when you were ten years old?

:19:29.:19:31.

Maybe a fireman, a doctor? A pop star or even a TV presenter? Maybe a

:19:32.:19:34.

sports presenter? But what a life as an international

:19:35.:19:37.

snowboarder? Because that's exactly what Ethan Smith wants. And he's

:19:38.:19:40.

already well on the way to fulfilling his dreams. Ed Sherry

:19:41.:19:43.

went to meet him. Ten years old, and pulling off

:19:44.:19:49.

tricks like this. Ethan's been riding since he was seven,

:19:50.:19:52.

converting from skiing while on holiday with his parents. And he's

:19:53.:19:57.

never looked back. It's fun, I like being in the air. I can spin up to a

:19:58.:20:05.

540. I can backflip and front flip. I can nearly rodeo. He trains at

:20:06.:20:12.

least four times a week, here on the slope at Matchams in Dorset and at

:20:13.:20:15.

other venues around the country to gain more experience.

:20:16.:20:18.

And it's hard work that's paying off. Last week he won the Scottish

:20:19.:20:21.

National under 12 freestyle championships, and regularly

:20:22.:20:24.

competes in under`16 competition. He's very young at the minute so

:20:25.:20:28.

another couple of years, let his tricks developed, gain some core

:20:29.:20:31.

strength, there is a good chance he can make it.

:20:32.:20:34.

His hero, Southampton's Billy Morgan. He also honed his skills in

:20:35.:20:39.

on the South's dry slopes, and now competes on the international

:20:40.:20:42.

circuit earlier this year reaching the Olympic final in Sochi.

:20:43.:20:46.

He is a really good snowboarder, and I have met him. He was the first to

:20:47.:20:54.

triple rodeo. That is a long way off for Ethan and his family are making

:20:55.:20:58.

sure despite his love of big air he is keeping his feet firmly on the

:20:59.:21:01.

ground. There is always the potential for

:21:02.:21:05.

injury so he knows he has to do well in school because this may not be

:21:06.:21:08.

his career path should anything happen. Let's go and have a look. We

:21:09.:21:12.

have never asked or applied for any financial funding, it's all been

:21:13.:21:15.

backed by ourselves. Keeping it that way, there is no pressure on him to

:21:16.:21:19.

perform to a high`level, or try something more advanced than he is

:21:20.:21:25.

ready for. But it doesn't hurt to dream. My goals are to either get to

:21:26.:21:29.

the Olympics or X Games or get filmed for snowboarding movies.

:21:30.:21:35.

We are looking at at least eight years in the future. If he

:21:36.:21:38.

progresses the way he is going there is no reason he can't and we will

:21:39.:21:40.

support him all What looks like a perfect early

:21:41.:21:59.

spring day at Blandford Forum here captured by Mark Steele. Thanks,

:22:00.:22:01.

Mark! Plenty of water around there, and

:22:02.:22:04.

here in Petworth for the ducks. Thanks to Dan Smith for that. It is

:22:05.:22:10.

looking like a gorgeous weekend. After all the cold weather and heavy

:22:11.:22:21.

showers of the last couple of days there is some good news this

:22:22.:22:24.

weekend. The Centre will come out and it will feel like spring. We

:22:25.:22:30.

should see temperatures 16, 17. `` the sunshine will come out. A lot of

:22:31.:22:35.

dry weather to look forward to. At the moment it may not feel like

:22:36.:22:37.

that, there are plenty of showers around, pretty cold. Showers we have

:22:38.:22:47.

had in the last couple of hours have been pretty heavy, still some lively

:22:48.:22:51.

showers overnight, they will gradually move their weight

:22:52.:22:54.

westwards through the night, just a few left behind. Most of those dying

:22:55.:23:02.

away by dawn tomorrow morning. We should have a lovely start to the

:23:03.:23:09.

day, some patchy high`level cloud. For most of the day it is lovely,

:23:10.:23:13.

spring, temperatures getting up to 16, 17. The cold breeze. It is a

:23:14.:23:29.

southeasterly breeze, and here are the times of high water. The weather

:23:30.:23:37.

front's stay to the west of us, this is Saturday, a similar picture on

:23:38.:23:41.

Sunday. Mum are coming up from the south. On Sunday we made the warm

:23:42.:23:50.

weather map. A little more in a way of cloud around making the sunshine

:23:51.:23:54.

hazy. Then it changes as we move into Monday and choose a. A little

:23:55.:23:57.

bit colder, and the risk of some showers. The weekend ahead is fine

:23:58.:24:09.

and dry. Overnight Saturday night into Sunday, the clocks go forward

:24:10.:24:14.

one hour. I don't know whether that means we get more sleep policy.

:24:15.:24:18.

`` more sleep or less sleep. Now, how often do a group of

:24:19.:24:25.

aspiring young dancers get the chance to share the same stage as a

:24:26.:24:27.

critically`acclaimed professional company? My guess is that it's

:24:28.:24:31.

pretty rare. But a group of very lucky teenagers from Southampton

:24:32.:24:34.

will do just that tonight. For the last four days, they've been hard at

:24:35.:24:37.

work training with one of the country's top companies.

:24:38.:24:40.

And tonight they're performing the curtain raiser to a performance of

:24:41.:24:43.

Swan Lake at Southampton's Mayflower Theatre.

:24:44.:24:45.

Ena Miller went to see them in rehearsal.

:24:46.:24:53.

Joe's parents have never seen him dance like this before. I'm quite

:24:54.:24:57.

nervous but excited because they have only really see me perform in

:24:58.:25:01.

street dance competitions. I'm going to prove myself to my parents,

:25:02.:25:07.

angering to be fantastic. Remember what we spoke about, I is up, clear

:25:08.:25:17.

arms. During students `` students have been revelling in what it is

:25:18.:25:22.

like to be part of the dance company. Being with members of this

:25:23.:25:30.

group has developed my dance technique in the way it is not as

:25:31.:25:34.

me, it is everybody else. We are all I could do so puzzle. `` we are all

:25:35.:25:40.

like a jigsaw puzzle. People have misconceptions about dance,

:25:41.:25:46.

especially for boys, so it is about breaking barriers, reaching out to a

:25:47.:25:48.

new generation of people, inspiring them. Everything they have learned

:25:49.:25:54.

will be performed at the Mayflower in Southampton tonight. There will

:25:55.:26:01.

be the so`called curtain raising act before Matthew Bourne's production

:26:02.:26:06.

of Swan Lake begins where some of the female cast has been replaced by

:26:07.:26:09.

powerful man. The production has been widely acclaimed since it

:26:10.:26:15.

opened in 1995 and it was a charity from the south that made it all

:26:16.:26:20.

happen. We are very proud to bring this opportunity to local students

:26:21.:26:25.

in the area. I saw a curtain raiser just every year ago, and in my

:26:26.:26:29.

position supporting teachers to actually bring the best into the

:26:30.:26:33.

classroom and out of the classroom for the more able, gifted and

:26:34.:26:37.

talented students, we had to get involved. Thousands will be waiting

:26:38.:26:43.

in anticipation to see this version of the classic ballet, and among

:26:44.:26:46.

them to very proud parents watching every move their son makes. I have

:26:47.:26:51.

got butterflies but it is not scary, I'm nervous but excited.

:26:52.:27:01.

That is an amazing production. They will be waiting in the wings, if not

:27:02.:27:04.

on stage now, so good luck. Have a great weekend.
