BBC Hello I'm Sally Taylor. Welcome to | :00:00. | :00:00.
South Today. In tonight's programme: Guilty of murder ` the man who | :00:00. | :00:00.
buried his pregnant girlfridnd The multi`million pound prolise | :00:07. | :00:10.
of investment if plans for Hatching a new plan to help | :00:11. | :00:18.
the great bustard population. And what was hidden in this kilt | :00:19. | :00:25.
and the search for the woman she had the gumption to put a note | :00:26. | :00:41.
into the kilt looking for a husband. We were stunned! | :00:42. | :00:50.
The former boyfriend of teenager Jayden Parkinson has | :00:51. | :00:52.
22`year`old Ben Blakeley from Reading buried Jayden's remains | :00:53. | :00:55.
A jury has returned a verdict with an 11 to one majority. | :00:56. | :00:59.
Victoria Cook has been following the case at Oxford Crown Court `nd sent | :01:00. | :01:02.
There were emotional scenes in court as the verdict was read out. Jayden | :01:03. | :01:28.
Parkinson'sfamily left in tdars Blakeley didn't show that mtch | :01:29. | :01:31.
emotion but he left the dock ready quickly. The Jerry `` Jerry took 20 | :01:32. | :01:38.
hours to reach their decision. `` the jury. Police said they think | :01:39. | :01:46.
they could `` it could be the first case of its kind where a murderer | :01:47. | :01:49.
has hidden a body in an existing grave. Jayden Parkinson'slife was | :01:50. | :01:57.
taken from her last year and today someone was found guilty of her | :01:58. | :02:02.
murder. I welcome the verdict that Ben Blakeley is guilty of mtrder. | :02:03. | :02:09.
And so do the family. This hs the start of some closure for them. This | :02:10. | :02:14.
verdict has come as a relief to the family and friends who have been | :02:15. | :02:17.
coming here to Oxford Crown Court everyday. One of Jayden'sfrhends | :02:18. | :02:23.
told us she hoped there would be justice for her friend. Justice for | :02:24. | :02:29.
Jayden and other people that he has tortured and hurt over the xears. He | :02:30. | :02:34.
gets what he deserves. In the back of my mind I always thought he could | :02:35. | :02:40.
be capable of that sort of thing. To someone like Jayden, she was lovely, | :02:41. | :02:46.
no man should ever hit a wolan but for her, she didn't deserve that at | :02:47. | :02:59.
all. The jury will return to consider its sentenced tomorrow | :03:00. | :03:03.
Meanwhile, we can tell the story of then Blakeley and Jayden Parkinson | :03:04. | :03:09.
and how their friendship and then relationship stretched back many | :03:10. | :03:15.
years. They had known each other for years | :03:16. | :03:19.
but in the summer of 2012 J`yden Parkinson started dating Ben | :03:20. | :03:25.
Blakeley. Problems at home leant she had to move out. They were partners | :03:26. | :03:33.
in crime. They stole to eat and buy drugs and to solve their problems | :03:34. | :03:36.
they began trying for a babx hoping that would mean they would get a | :03:37. | :03:41.
council flat. Over the course of the next year and with no baby `ppearing | :03:42. | :03:47.
and money tight, Jayden movdd into this hostel here in Oxford `nd it | :03:48. | :03:51.
was at this point when they mark or `` when they were more often apart | :03:52. | :03:57.
when his jealous nature got worse. He ordered her to stay here alone, | :03:58. | :04:02.
telling her he `` she mustn't even leave to go to the bathroom. Two | :04:03. | :04:05.
weeks later she ended their relationship. Ben Blakeley was | :04:06. | :04:11.
angry. So angry he threatendd to put naked pictures of her on Facebook. | :04:12. | :04:16.
He said he hoped she would commit suicide. At the beginning of | :04:17. | :04:20.
December staff at the hospital `` hostel take a pregnancy test `` they | :04:21. | :04:30.
helped her take it. The father had to be Ben Blakeley. When Jaxden | :04:31. | :04:34.
called him to break the news he accused her of cheating and then | :04:35. | :04:39.
threatened to push her off ` bridge. Despite that threat and not even 24 | :04:40. | :04:44.
hours later, Jayden left thd hostel alone to meet Ben Blakeley `nd to | :04:45. | :04:48.
discuss the pregnancy. Thesd are the last known images of Jayden and life | :04:49. | :04:53.
will stop they show their journey from Oxford train station to Didcot. | :04:54. | :04:59.
They walked from there to an area of fields. They reached this footbridge | :05:00. | :05:06.
when then Blakeley asked Jaxden if she had been cheating on hil. He | :05:07. | :05:12.
then describes grabbing her around the throat with both hands before | :05:13. | :05:16.
she then fell from here into the mud below. He said she wasn't rdading | :05:17. | :05:22.
but he tried to revive her. He then describes sitting here for some time | :05:23. | :05:26.
watching stars go by before eventually covering her bodx with a | :05:27. | :05:31.
branch. He then left and went back to his home in Redding. In the days | :05:32. | :05:36.
that followed and whilst falily and friends were waiting for news, Ben | :05:37. | :05:40.
Blakeley returned to move hdr body. He put her in an M T suitcase and | :05:41. | :05:48.
called for a taxi. `` and elpty suitcase. That was carried to all | :05:49. | :05:55.
Saints Church in Didcot and he then dug his great uncle 's gravd. The | :05:56. | :06:00.
grave was then made to look and disturbed. By the 12th of Ddcember | :06:01. | :06:07.
there was still no sign of Jayden. This is a live missing persons | :06:08. | :06:10.
enquiry. We do not know where she lives `` is. Nine days after she | :06:11. | :06:18.
disappeared, police declared a major crime investigation with ovdr a | :06:19. | :06:23.
hundred officers. Two days later, CCTV footage route that then | :06:24. | :06:28.
Blakeley lied about his own whereabouts on the night shd went | :06:29. | :06:31.
missing and they were now convinced she was dead. Then Blakeley was | :06:32. | :06:37.
charged with her murder. That report follows today's | :06:38. | :06:40.
conviction of Ben Blakeley. Managers at Gatwick Airport have | :06:41. | :06:44.
announced plans to invest more than ?250 million in local jobs, | :06:45. | :06:47.
housing and noise compensathon if they're given permission to build | :06:48. | :06:49.

their ongoing campaign to bd allowed The Government has appointed | :06:52. | :06:54.
an aviation commission to look into the future of UK runwax | :06:55. | :06:57.

busiest single runway airport in the world and the campaign for ` second | :07:18. | :07:23.
runway is hotting up. ?256 lillion pledged to help ease local community | :07:24. | :07:29.
concerns. A second runway would stretch out before me running | :07:30. | :07:33.
parallel with the existing one and nearly a mile to the south, mainly | :07:34. | :07:38.
crossing Greenland. 160 homds would have to be compulsorily purchased | :07:39. | :07:45.
and landscape around would be affected. So there has been | :07:46. | :07:49.
consultation with locals and the airport wants to be seen to be | :07:50. | :07:53.
listening to concerns. We h`ve made a feud changes to reflect what | :07:54. | :07:57.
people have said and most particularly the have added to the | :07:58. | :08:01.
pledges we have already madd to make it possible for locals to sde they | :08:02. | :08:04.
will share in the benefits of a new runway. Among the pledges is a 46 | :08:05. | :08:13.
million infrastructure plan. Owners of homes that need to be delolished | :08:14. | :08:18.
will receive 25% above the going rate and a ?50 million noisd | :08:19. | :08:22.
compensation fund but campahgners say this is not enough. It hs | :08:23. | :08:29.
nothing in the scale of things. They will make substantially mord profits | :08:30. | :08:32.
and the impact of those profits will be felt by the shareholders and | :08:33. | :08:36.
their bonuses and not by thd local community and it is the loc`l | :08:37. | :08:41.
community that will suffer. There are mixed views as to where a new | :08:42. | :08:47.
runway should go. It will create jobs around Crawley. It can be a | :08:48. | :08:52.
positive thing. Stansted because it is 20 minutes from where I live I | :08:53. | :08:58.
know the Thames estuary. It is wide open space. It is not exactly pretty | :08:59. | :09:03.

Still to come: The story of the kilt and a woman looking for lovd. | :09:53. | :10:07.
We will delve into the mystdry of the First World War Scottish kilt | :10:08. | :10:11.
that was found with a secret message hidden inside. | :10:12. | :10:16.
Do you get annoyed by the person next to you on the | :10:17. | :10:19.
Train companies have quiet carriages where use | :10:20. | :10:22.
But now Cross Country Trains is removing them. | :10:23. | :10:25.
It thinks our habits are ch`nging ` they are no longer wanted. | :10:26. | :10:28.
We're texting and emailing instead of talking | :10:29. | :10:29.
Our transport correspondent, Paul Clifton, reports. | :10:30. | :10:41.
When you travel on a train how much does this bother you? I'm jtst | :10:42. | :10:53.
travelling along... I find ht embarrassing to listen to other | :10:54. | :10:57.
people 's conversation becatse you do so whether you intend to not | :10:58. | :11:01.
Then your phone rings and you do the same! We have all been irritated by | :11:02. | :11:08.
the person next to us inventing excuses for being late home | :11:09. | :11:12.
describing intimate details of an employee they have just sacked. The | :11:13. | :11:19.
train manager has certainly noticed a change. Just over the last two | :11:20. | :11:23.
years we have seen an incre`se in people text link and using Wi`Fi. | :11:24. | :11:28.
Now you find people don't use phones as much. In first class we saw every | :11:29. | :11:37.
passenger using a tablet or laptop. There are still times when xou have | :11:38. | :11:41.
two talk to people because ht is quicker than getting into e`mail | :11:42. | :11:50.
ping`pong. I text my man to tell her where I am. I don't really call | :11:51. | :11:58.
anyone. I just don't really call because there are other people | :11:59. | :12:01.
around and they don't want to listen. CrossCountry Trains is the | :12:02. | :12:07.
first operator to remove quhet carriages. They say they ard no | :12:08. | :12:10.
longer needed, like carriagds for smokers. It is an anachronism in the | :12:11. | :12:19.
modern age full is not Sony Walkman 's gave out more noise than they | :12:20. | :12:25.
came `` gave you. Technologx has moved on and the majority of our | :12:26. | :12:29.
customers use media which is quieter. First great Western and | :12:30. | :12:35.
Southwest trains have quiet carriages to but they have no plans | :12:36. | :12:40.
to follow CrossCountry Trains. Our habits at changing though. We think | :12:41. | :12:44.
it is important to stay in contact all the time so we are more willing | :12:45. | :12:48.
to put up with more annoying conversations next to us. Btt we | :12:49. | :12:53.
also e`mail or text much more than talking. As more trains are fitted | :12:54. | :12:57.
with Wi`Fi, that trend is lhkely to continue. | :12:58. | :13:05.
You have been telling us wh`t you think. | :13:06. | :13:30.
Condor Ferries has found a replacement vessel to transport | :13:31. | :13:32.

It comes after the Commodord Clipper scraped the sea bed en routd to | :13:35. | :13:37.

The bird was hunted to extinction in this country in the 1800s, | :13:54. | :13:58.

But now, eggs from Spain, which are easier to import `nd | :14:01. | :14:04.

Meet Nelson and Morgana, thd only two great bustard birds in captivity | :14:20. | :14:26.
in Britain. Once as, as phe`sants, they were hunted to extincthon in | :14:27. | :14:30.
the 1840s. Here in Surrey they are part of a programme to reintroduce | :14:31. | :14:36.
great bust of birds into thd wild. This egg will go into the incubator | :14:37. | :14:37.
so we record the basic detahls. Children's Festival revived. The | :14:38. | :16:20.
last one was a hundred years ago but it was stopped by the outbrdak of | :16:21. | :16:26.
World War I. The mayor led the procession in a horse`drawn carriage | :16:27. | :16:28.
as the children marched to the beat of the band. | :16:29. | :16:35.
New life has been breathed hnto an old tradition. It has been 000 years | :16:36. | :16:43.
since the last Children's Fdstival in Bournemouth. Bournemouth is only | :16:44. | :16:51.
200 years old. Back then, schools were privately funded but they | :16:52. | :16:53.
couldn't keep them running. They came running `` knocking on the | :16:54. | :16:59.
council for. The council sahd they would fund them and celebrate it | :17:00. | :17:04.
with a children's day. 8000 children marched through the town. It was | :17:05. | :17:11.
huge. White 1904 but stopped in 1914 when the war broke out. It was | :17:12. | :17:17.
gotten until today. We get to meet the Mayor and March. It happened so | :17:18. | :17:23.
will only go so to honour those children is really good. Evdryone | :17:24. | :17:28.
walked from Bournemouth Pier to the town square and ended up in the | :17:29. | :17:35.
park. A happy day of celebr`tions and reflection. The wall and the | :17:36. | :17:45.
terrible Second World War... They will never forget. To commelorate, | :17:46. | :17:52.
each child was given a peacd medal from World War I to celebrate the | :17:53. | :17:58.
end of the war. I am proud to be met of this wonderful town. It hs a | :17:59. | :18:04.
great game for me and Bourndmouth. And ceremony and remembrancd and a | :18:05. | :18:09.
little hope the Children's Festival won't be forgotten again. | :18:10. | :18:13.
It was a secret message written by a woman licking for love hidddn in a | :18:14. | :18:22.
Scottish kilt. It was destined for a soldier serving in the London | :18:23. | :18:25.
Scottish regiment `` regiment but it was never worn and the note was | :18:26. | :18:29.
found by an academic at Southampton University. | :18:30. | :18:37.
For a kilt made almost 100 xears ago it is in remarkable good condition. | :18:38. | :18:41.
It has been handed down through generations of one family. But the | :18:42. | :18:46.
secret note was only discovdred when temporary stitching used to hold the | :18:47. | :18:54.
plates together was undone. I was amazed, especially because ht had | :18:55. | :18:57.
been written by somebody who was probably just an ordinary | :18:58. | :19:01.
seamstress. When we read it we were completely stunned that she had the | :19:02. | :19:07.
gumption to put a note into a kilt really looking for a husband. It | :19:08. | :19:15.
says, I hope your kilt will fit you well and in it you will looks swell. | :19:16. | :19:19.
If single, drop me a line. H wish you bags of luck and a speedy | :19:20. | :19:27.
return. Underneath it is her name. I would love to know who she was. If | :19:28. | :19:33.
she has any surviving familx and if she got a reply full. Hundrdds of | :19:34. | :19:38.
thousands of kilt were made for Scottish regiments in the Fhrst | :19:39. | :19:43.
World War. A label on Helen's kilt shows it was made for a soldier in | :19:44. | :19:47.
the London Scottish regiment full. It is amazing and unique to see | :19:48. | :19:52.
something that has such a wonderful tied to the wall but to be hn such | :19:53. | :19:58.
good condition. The Scottish soldiers in kilts would hardly have | :19:59. | :20:02.
raised an eyebrow in the Brhtish Army 100 years ago but they | :20:03. | :20:05.
certainly surprised the Gerlans who christened them The Ladies From | :20:06. | :20:10.
Hell. Can you help with this storx? Do get | :20:11. | :20:19.
