Good evening, I'm Roger Finn. Commonwealth Games closing ceremony, | :00:08. | :00:08.
The centenary of the outbreak of World War One has been marked | :00:09. | :00:11.
in a number of events around the South. | :00:12. | :00:13.
There have been services of remembrance | :00:14. | :00:15.
and a special gathering at Highclere Castle in Berkshire. | :00:16. | :00:29.
In Worthing, it was a moment of silence and a tribute by the sea. | :00:30. | :00:35.
Two stained`glass windows were unveiled on the pier. More than 660 | :00:36. | :00:41.
people from the area were killed in World War I. 20,000 killed, 40,000 | :00:42. | :00:48.
wounded in a single day. A number of working men, all boys, who were 15 | :00:49. | :00:53.
years old when they lay down their lives, commemorated on those | :00:54. | :00:57.
banners. At Saint Mary's church in Ferndown, | :00:58. | :01:05.
a Piper led a procession for a service of commemoration. 50 men | :01:06. | :01:10.
from the Ferndown immunity gave their lives in the First World War | :01:11. | :01:13.
and each of their names was read out. `` the Ferndown community. | :01:14. | :01:23.
Crowds gathered in bright sunshine in Highclere Castle in an event a | :01:24. | :01:31.
member conflicts past and present. It was a fly past of planes in the | :01:32. | :01:36.
Great War, musical entertainment and a recreation of the famous football | :01:37. | :01:45.
match between English and German soldiers in World War I. I wanted a | :01:46. | :01:49.
reflection of what happened in the past for people to understand how it | :01:50. | :01:53.
can help people today. And tomorrow on South Today, we'll | :01:54. | :02:01.
bring you a special programme. Sally Taylor will be live | :02:02. | :02:03.
from the Bovington Tank Museum in Dorset, as the start | :02:04. | :02:06.
of the First World War is remembered with a series of events | :02:07. | :02:09.
across the South. And we'd love to see your pictures | :02:10. | :02:11.
from the commemorations, there's more details | :02:12. | :02:13.
on our Facebook page. Passengers onboard a Wightlink Ferry | :02:14. | :02:18.
from Lymington to Yarmouth were left stranded | :02:19. | :02:21.
for 30 minutes earlier, after the forward propulsion unit | :02:22. | :02:24.
failed. Ben Matthews sent South Today | :02:25. | :02:27.
these pictures of the incident. Wightlink say | :02:28. | :02:30.
the ferry did not hit the barge After half an hour, the ferry | :02:31. | :02:32.
was able to continue its journey. It's been taken out of service | :02:33. | :02:37.
for repairs, Sir John Madjeski has told | :02:38. | :02:39.
South Today he is confident he's found the right investors | :02:40. | :02:45.
for Reading Football club. Sir John said a Thai consortium will | :02:46. | :02:49.
take a majority share in the club. The group are led | :02:50. | :02:54.
by 76`year`old businesswoman It's hoped the deal | :02:55. | :02:57.
will be concluded in time for manager Nigel Adkins | :02:58. | :03:02.
to bring in new players. as it was | :03:03. | :03:07.
before the last administration. So they want to get back to | :03:08. | :03:12.
the basics of that. But they are ambitious and I'm sure | :03:13. | :03:15.
before the start of this season, The Commonwealth Games | :03:16. | :03:20.
has come to an end in Glasgow that's captained by | :03:21. | :03:27.
Reading's Kate Walsh suffered a dramatic loss in their | :03:28. | :03:32.
gold medal match against Australia. The Australians equalised | :03:33. | :03:37.
in the last 20 seconds despite a heroic performance from | :03:38. | :03:39.
West Sussex goalkeeper Maddie Hinch. I think this morning | :03:40. | :03:48.
it's really hit home, how close we were to coming | :03:49. | :03:50.
away with a gold medal. that we have come so far | :03:51. | :03:52.
in such a short space of time and if someone had said we | :03:53. | :04:02.
would have a silver at the end of this tournament, we would have | :04:03. | :04:05.
grabbed that with two hands. The men's hockey bronze medal match | :04:06. | :04:08.
also went to penalties The game finished 3`3 | :04:09. | :04:10.
before Reading's Simon Mantell won a penalty flick, | :04:11. | :04:15.
and England took the victory. But it was heartbreak again | :04:16. | :04:20.
for the South's netball players. After their final second loss | :04:21. | :04:22.
against New Zealand in the semi final, the England team | :04:23. | :04:25.
weren't able to lift themselves England lost against Jamaica | :04:26. | :04:28.
to finish in fourth place. And Hampshire's Dani King ended | :04:29. | :04:35.
a disappointing Commonwealth Games for England team`mate Lizzie | :04:36. | :04:38.
Armitstead in the early stages. Armitstead went | :04:39. | :04:44.
on to win the gold medal, with King more than | :04:45. | :04:46.
five minutes down. Now for the weather | :04:47. | :04:54.
with Holly Green. Today has brought plenty | :04:55. | :04:56.
of bright weather and we have just | :04:57. | :04:59.
seen one or two showers. Now, there is a risk | :05:00. | :05:03.
of some showers through tonight. and that breeze | :05:04. | :05:06.
will generally ease down Lows by then between 13 | :05:07. | :05:10.
and 16 degrees. One or two spots, | :05:11. | :05:15.
perhaps a little lower. Tomorrow, | :05:16. | :05:18.
quite a bright start to the day. We see plenty | :05:19. | :05:20.
of sunny spells coming through. There is the risk of a few showers, | :05:21. | :05:22.
a scattering here and there but for many of us, we will | :05:23. | :05:25.
get away with a largely dry day. A less breezy one for today | :05:26. | :05:29.
as well and temperatures there pushing | :05:30. | :05:31.
into the early 20s. But we do see a bit of a change | :05:32. | :05:34.
into the middle part of the week. There will be some brighter | :05:35. | :05:38.
conditions at times but also an increasing risk | :05:39. | :05:40.
of heavy, thundery showers. Our next news will follow the | :05:41. | :05:42.
Commonwealth Games closing ceremony Good evening. Some of us have had a | :05:43. | :06:11.
sunny weekend but for others it has not stopped raining for the last | :06:12. | :06:15.
couple of days, you can see where on the satellite picture, big swell of | :06:16. | :06:22.
cloud, dominating things. Torrential storms, if you see the coverage, you | :06:23. | :06:25.
can see how much rain there has been, that has caused issues. | :06:26. | :06:29.
Thunder and lightning thrown in as well. This area of storms moves | :06:30. | :06:33.
north out of Glasgow but this clutch of heavy downpours pushing into the | :06:34. | :06:37.
south-west of Scotland, we will have to keep an eye on that for the | :06:38. | :06:42.
closing ceremony. One thing is for sure, which showers and blustery | :06:43. | :06:45.
wind, it will not be anything like as fine and warm as it was the | :06:46. | :06:49.
opening ceremony. Further south across the UK, | :06:50. | :06:51. |
