Good evening. I'm Roger Finn with the news here in the south

A mother from Dorset whose son died from a brain tumour has said

much more needs to be done to make people aware of the symptoms.

She says her son suffered from the fact his condition was not

diagnosed faster, similar to Ashya King, the little boy from Portsmouth

at the centre of a row over the best treatment for brain tulours.

This was the boy two years `go at the age of 16. He died soon after

from a brain tumour. Since then his mother Sacha has been on a crusade

to raise awareness. We have got world`class specialists children's

cancer services but we are not getting our children to thel in

time. My son's Juma was reported to be the size of eight Satsum`. The

surgery to remove something like that and then the radiation or the

proton beam and then the chemotherapy in a child's brain is

horrendous. If you can get the child there with awareness of the symptoms

when it is the size of a pe`, that is going to make a massive

difference. About 500 children each year are diagnosed with brahn

tumours and about a quarter of those will die. They carry about the same

risks to a child as meningitis. Symptoms include vomiting, headaches

and abnormal eye movements. Sacha is a champion for the brain tulour

charities campaign. She helps distribute symptom cards around the

country but she is calling for more help from the government. If Jeremy

Hunt says about this, peopld will think it is important. It whll just

massively speed it up. It is taking too long from the bottom, b`sically.

The Department of Health saxs it supports the campaign and h`s

written to health boards and the Department for Education encouraging

them to get behind it. Now Sacha hopes the publicity will le`d to

some good. Three children h`ve died since the Ashya King story has come

out. Let's hope something good can come out of that horror.

Police on the Isle of Wight have described an alleged sexual assault

against an 11`year`old girl as a rare but very serious inchdent.

It happened at around 11 o'clock yesterday morning.

The victim and her family wdre in the picnic area of

Fort Victoria, near Yarmouth, when she was approached by ` man.

He allegedly sexually assaulted her and then walked away.

Officers are appealing for witnesses.

A remembrance service has t`ken place in Southampton

for a couple who died when they were on holiday seeing family in India.

Roopesh and Kavita Nawarkhale were killed last month

when the coach they were tr`velling in crashed in the Punjab.

Their nine`year`old daughter remains in hospital for treatment

People from all over the colmunity, colleagues, friends and famhly, have

organised this multi`faith remembrance service basically to

remember the good things thdy did. The best people, they were. And also

to pray for their daughter's health, who is currently in

hospital. A group of residents in Reading who

have been plagued by a long term project to renew water pipes

in the city centre have fin`lly The residents of Vachel Road have

endured noise from machinerx and trucks, as well as dust

from skips filled with spoil. The work by Thames Water has

been going on since April. Yesterday, residents met

the contractors and the loc`l MP. This site has been here for months

now and we have had all the skips their and a lot of rubbish. The work

continues on bank holidays, weekends, very noisy. The whole

summer, we could not open otr windows. Contractors are making in

of promises about improvements in the future and they will thhs site

out in the middle of October at the latest. There is progress btt I am

going to keep a close eye on it and make sure the council improve their

surveillance of what is going on. Some football for you now,

and League Two table`toppers Burton Albion proved too strong

for Portsmouth today. Pompey fell behind after just

two minutes with this goal. Midfielder Jed Wallace had ` rare

first`half chance but shot wide A second goal eased Burton to

a fifth successive home win. We finally saw the sunny spdlls

after all the cloud first thing It is going to be quite a cold night.

The temperature is taking a nosedive overnight. We will see tempdratures

in single figures in rural spots. Also a touch of fog forming

overnight. The mist and fog should be fairly short lived and wd should

see some sunny spells through the morning and temperatures should

recover nicely. As a result, a warm day with temperatures around where

they should be at this time of year. We will keep the settled we`ther

into next week with plenty of sunny spells. The wind will pick tp

towards the end of the week. That is all from us for the moment.

lovely end to the weekend but the exception was the north-east of

Scotland. It was cold, wet and windy but the low responsible is now

moving away and we have high pressure moving its way in from the

West. The pressure is rising all the while over the next few days which

will settle things down nicely and it will be dry pretty much all week.

But the forecasting headache will be the amount of cloud. The next few

hours will still be pretty wet and windy in the north-east of Scotland

but through the small hours the ring becomes quite liked and patchy.

Elsewhere it is a dry night, a few patches of low cloud here and there

but for many it is a night of clear spells, and major towns and cities

will be a degree either side of double figures but in rural areas

temperatures could reach as low as one degree. Northern Scotland will

be cloudy and breezy, not much Rangers peak of but they will be

some. The central lowlands will see a decent start the day and so will

Northern Ireland, and the rest of England and Wales there will be a

few patches of cloud but for many will be a bright start of the day
