A stricken cargo ship off Cornwall ` investigations continue to find out

:00:12.:00:17.

why it started sinking. Good evening, welcome to Spotlight. The

:00:18.:00:20.

crew of the Sea Breeze had to abandon ship ` tonight it's still

:00:21.:00:23.

not clear why the vessel began taking on water. Also tonight:

:00:24.:00:28.

Concern about plans to closd three children's homes in Devon.

:00:29.:00:31.

Campaigners say the plans aren't in the best interest of the most

:00:32.:00:34.

vulnerable young people And Cornwall council makes more than ?300,00 a

:00:35.:00:37.

year because their parking lachines don't give change. Disgusting

:00:38.:00:48.

really. Clever. Unscrupulous. Thank you. Efforts are continuing tonight

:00:49.:00:59.

to stabilise a cargo ship which started sinking off the coast of

:01:00.:01:03.

Cornwall. The crew of the Sda Breeze had to be taken to safety bx

:01:04.:01:06.

lifeboats and a rescue helicopter after the vessel began taking on

:01:07.:01:10.

water off the Lizard. The ship has now been towed to the sheltdred

:01:11.:01:13.

waters of St Austell Bay and salvage crews have been attempting to repair

:01:14.:01:17.

the damage in a bid to keep it afloat. Spotlight's David Gdorge

:01:18.:01:23.

reports. The Sea Breeze is `nchored two miles off shore in St Atstell

:01:24.:01:31.

Bay. She is surrounded by other vessels, including a dive boat, a

:01:32.:01:36.

vessel which has brought pulps on board and the salvage tug. The team

:01:37.:01:42.

are working on the vessel. We have seen them moving pipes around, part

:01:43.:01:46.

of the pumping operation th`t is going on. We have had a radho call

:01:47.:01:49.

to say that they're putting divers into the water right now and we have

:01:50.:01:54.

been asked to stand off. Whhch of course is what we have done. The

:01:55.:02:00.

coaster was on the way from Liverpool to Shoreham with ` cargo

:02:01.:02:06.

of limestone when the drama started yesterday morning. The Sea Breeze

:02:07.:02:12.

broadcast a May Day that was received by Falmouth coastgtards.

:02:13.:02:19.

They sent lifeboats and a Royal Navy rescue helicopter. All of those

:02:20.:02:22.

vessels and the helicopter had cameras on board, so we can see what

:02:23.:02:29.

happened. The fisheries protection vessel HMS Tyne also assistdd. They

:02:30.:02:33.

put crew and pumps on board, but they were unable to handle the

:02:34.:02:39.

quantity of water. She was low in the water and as the pumps weren't

:02:40.:02:43.

maintaining the water level. They're only small pumps and not designed

:02:44.:02:47.

for that amount of water. Whth conversation with the coastguard and

:02:48.:02:52.

ourselves, it was decided the safest thing was to evacuate all

:02:53.:02:57.

nonessential crew and then we took everyone off. So we took all six

:02:58.:03:07.

crew off. I understand the problem is one of damage to the sea water

:03:08.:03:13.

inlet valves. That has causdd the vessel to start to sink. Wh`t the

:03:14.:03:17.

divers are doing is trying to put a patch over the sea water inlet.

:03:18.:03:22.

Rescuers say conditions werd good with little wind and a low swell. If

:03:23.:03:27.

this had happened in the storms of a few weeks ago, there might have been

:03:28.:03:32.

a Jr. Different ` very diffdrent outcome. Tonight the ship is dead in

:03:33.:03:38.

the water with the team washing on `` working on board. And David's

:03:39.:03:43.

been following developments all day and joins us now from Fowey. David,

:03:44.:03:46.

what's the latest tonight? Well the first development is the divers from

:03:47.:03:51.

the Royal Navy, those experts, have managed to weld a patch over the sea

:03:52.:03:56.

water inlet. The ship is now safe and we are told she is stable and

:03:57.:04:01.

the pumping is continuing. But she is still dead in the water. The

:04:02.:04:06.

engine room and the ship's systems have failed, because of the water.

:04:07.:04:11.

The question is where she whll be toed, it o' O'`` towed. Disdugses

:04:12.:04:20.

about that will `` discussion about that will continue. Plans to close

:04:21.:04:27.

three children's homes in Ddvon are being described by campaigndrs as

:04:28.:04:30.

not in the best interests of the county's most vulnerable yotng

:04:31.:04:33.

people. The County Council wants to place more children in family

:04:34.:04:36.

settings such as foster card rather than institutional homes. The move

:04:37.:04:39.

follows concerns raised abott two of the homes by Ofsted inspectors.

:04:40.:04:41.

Here's our political reportdr Jenny Kumah. Lee moved to Devon after

:04:42.:04:46.

spending his entire childhood in care. He spent time in children s

:04:47.:04:51.

home as well as with foster families. He feels homes can play an

:04:52.:04:56.

important role. When you're in a predicament like the childrdn out

:04:57.:04:58.

there, your in what is essentially the worst position you've ever been,

:04:59.:05:01.

taken away from your familids. Sometimes if you just plonk them in

:05:02.:05:05.

with foster carers, then it can be really traumatic, because c`re homes

:05:06.:05:10.

can take that away. You go hn there, you know you're in with othdr

:05:11.:05:13.

children, who are like`minddd, are in the same situation, that you can

:05:14.:05:19.

talk to. Two of the children's homes facing closure are now emptx,

:05:20.:05:21.

following critical Ofsted rdports. But Blossom Corner in Exeter has

:05:22.:05:25.

been rated good by inspectors and is still being used. Campaigners want

:05:26.:05:35.

this one to at least remain open. I think our real concern is that we

:05:36.:05:39.

are going to lose the expertise of very dedicated staff at a place like

:05:40.:05:43.

Blossom Corner, that they are able to cope with children with highly

:05:44.:05:46.

complex needs and I believe that it is in their setting that it is

:05:47.:05:50.

better for them than in the private sector. But the council says it

:05:51.:05:54.

costs ?1,500 a more to placd a child in Blossom Corner is, rather than a

:05:55.:05:59.

private children's home. Devon County Council wants more children

:06:00.:06:02.

to be looked after in familhes by foster careers, rather than in

:06:03.:06:07.

institutional homes. But opposition councillors are worried abott

:06:08.:06:09.

whether the council can recruit enough foster carers with the right

:06:10.:06:13.

skills to make this happen. The council says it is growing hts

:06:14.:06:16.

foster team and these changds will be positive. We have looked at the

:06:17.:06:21.

past evidence and actually placing children in an environment with

:06:22.:06:23.

foster carer placement and that family`type structure for md is the

:06:24.:06:26.

best solution wherever posshble and I'm quite comfortable that we can

:06:27.:06:29.

top that up and buy independent places as and when the need arises.

:06:30.:06:36.

Opposition councillors will try to overturn the council's decision to

:06:37.:06:39.

close the three children's homes at a special meeting tomorrow. The

:06:40.:06:46.

South West Ambulance Servicd Trust today extended the non emergency 111

:06:47.:06:49.

phone service across the whole of Devon. The service was inithally

:06:50.:06:52.

launched in parts of the cotnty in September last year. It now replaces

:06:53.:06:55.

all GP out`of`hours numbers in Devon. It's designed to be tsed when

:06:56.:06:59.

there is an urgent medical need that does not warrant a 999 call. The

:07:00.:07:10.

spell of dry weather has brought relief for flood victims in

:07:11.:07:23.

Somerset. More train servicds are opening. But as Clinton Rogdrs

:07:24.:07:27.

reports there is still a long way to go. The train standing at T`unton

:07:28.:07:31.

station is a clear sign that things are beginning to return to normal.

:07:32.:07:36.

Following the floods that m`de this stretch of line between Taunton and

:07:37.:07:41.

Bristol impassable, today for the first time trains were runnhng over

:07:42.:07:45.

it again. Although for now ht is still a reduced service. Thdre

:07:46.:07:50.

remains a lot of water on the Somerset Levels, but much ldss than

:07:51.:07:56.

there was. 33 million tonnes of water today. But that is a third of

:07:57.:07:59.

what it was at the height of the floods. We have got a good forecast

:08:00.:08:04.

for the next week and we have had a number of days without rain. So it

:08:05.:08:12.

gives us the chance to take a lot of water off. It also means th`t the

:08:13.:08:17.

environmental agency can st`rt scaling down their pumping

:08:18.:08:21.

operations. These huge Dutch pumps are about to be dismantled. The road

:08:22.:08:26.

will be closed while they'rd taken a I way tonight. `` taken awax

:08:27.:08:33.

tonight. There is relief in the village that was marooned for ten

:08:34.:08:38.

weeks. But at last some roads are drivable. You don't have to put on

:08:39.:08:45.

the wet weather gear and walk for miles. The main road linking Taunton

:08:46.:08:53.

and Glastonbury remains closed. The Environment Agency said it hoped to

:08:54.:08:57.

have all roads re`opened by the end of March. For this company, that

:08:58.:09:08.

can't come soon enough. Thex face a 12`mile detour. It is costing in

:09:09.:09:12.

extra fuel and expenses for the drivers to keep them away from the

:09:13.:09:17.

depot still. Flood victims will be counting the cost financially and

:09:18.:09:22.

emotionally for many months to come. Few here are expecting to bd home

:09:23.:09:31.

before Christmas. Still to come tonight: The money made by ` council

:09:32.:09:35.

from parking machines which don t give change. Plus, a double first

:09:36.:09:38.

for Exeter Chiefs ` they finally beat rivals Bath and book a cup

:09:39.:09:44.

final place. And find out why these brave swimmers have been taking a

:09:45.:09:53.

dip inspired by Agatha Christie The South Western Ambulance Service is

:09:54.:09:55.

easing the strain on hard`pressed hospitals by allowing paramddics to

:09:56.:10:02.

treat more people at home. Only 43% of their patients are taken to A

:10:03.:10:07.

Today, senior NHS leaders s`id more ambulance trusts should follow the

:10:08.:10:10.

example of the South Western service. Our Health Correspondent

:10:11.:10:15.

Sally Mountjoy has this report. Pamela is reading over her diary for

:10:16.:10:21.

last Boxing Day. This a when she fell at home, causing an injury to

:10:22.:10:26.

her leg. But the paramedics didn't take her to hospital. They treated

:10:27.:10:30.

and dressed her wound at hole and arranged for the district ntrse to

:10:31.:10:37.

call. I would prefer not to have to go to the A and from I have seen

:10:38.:10:43.

on the screen, they are kept so busy with things happening that somebody

:10:44.:10:49.

to come to the house is marvellous. Perfect. The number of patidnts

:10:50.:10:54.

emergency departments are sdeing is growing. Last winter royal Cornwall

:10:55.:10:59.

and Derriford hospitals reached the highest levels of alert. Today, the

:11:00.:11:05.

NHS confederation, which represents health service manager, said more

:11:06.:11:10.

paramedic should be trained to leave patients at home. What we w`nt to do

:11:11.:11:15.

is see that paramedics can see and treat the whole person, so that is

:11:16.:11:20.

about their medical, mental health and social needs. In a placd like

:11:21.:11:24.

the South West where the tr`ining exists, you can see that it is

:11:25.:11:28.

successful. In the north`west, ambulances take 75% of their

:11:29.:11:33.

patients to hospital. The average for England is 64%. But herd in the

:11:34.:11:39.

South West, ambulance crews take just 43% of emergency patients to

:11:40.:11:44.

A The ambulance service campaign to reduce the numbers taken to

:11:45.:11:50.

hospital began in 2011 and now it is paying dividends. This year, 24 000

:11:51.:11:56.

people will not go to an emdrgency department. I think that has great

:11:57.:12:00.

benefits for the ambulance service and looking that the patient's

:12:01.:12:04.

journey through the hospital it does save resources across the sxstem.

:12:05.:12:08.

They say most patients prefdr to stay at home and by keeping less

:12:09.:12:12.

serious cased out of the hospital, those who need to be there can be

:12:13.:12:20.

seen faster. More than ?300,000 a year is being made by Cornw`ll

:12:21.:12:23.

Council because their parking machines don't give change. The

:12:24.:12:27.

authority says stocking mord than 250 pay`and`display stations with

:12:28.:12:29.

change would be too problem`tic and costly and says it reinvests the

:12:30.:12:33.

money overpaid by drivers in road maintenance and other transport

:12:34.:12:40.

projects. But, as Tamsin Melville's been finding out, not everyone's

:12:41.:12:44.

impressed. How often does it happen to you ` you find a car park space

:12:45.:12:48.

and you start scrabbling around because you can't find the right

:12:49.:12:51.

change? Well it seems in Cornwall Council's car parks this is

:12:52.:12:55.

happening a lot. The authorhty has more than 250 pay`and`displ`y

:12:56.:12:58.

machines in its car parks and new figures show people not getting any

:12:59.:13:01.

change from these is netting the council more than ?300,000 ` year. A

:13:02.:13:08.

bit disgusting really. Yeah, I mean not everybody can afford to lose

:13:09.:13:13.

money, can they? Well I might think it's OK if they spent that ?300 000

:13:14.:13:17.

or something useful. They do reinvest it into transportation so

:13:18.:13:21.

for the roads. Into society. Yeah, well, I wouldn't really want it to

:13:22.:13:28.

be my money! Because I only had ?3, I think I should get another 40

:13:29.:13:32.

pence of time. But I think their machine would be well capable of

:13:33.:13:36.

that. They cannot say that xou haven't been warned, but thd warning

:13:37.:13:39.

is so small compared with the very big thing saying "welcome". Clever.

:13:40.:13:50.

Unscrupulous. Thank you. Thd council says the logistical problems of

:13:51.:13:53.

stocking all machines would be too costly and points out there is a

:13:54.:13:56.

cashless mobile phone systel available. You just used thd mobile

:13:57.:14:01.

phone system, what was that like? Terrible. It was too long, luch too

:14:02.:14:07.

long`winded. There must be `n easier way of doing it. Wouldn't that just

:14:08.:14:12.

be bringing the right changd? Yes, it would. The council also says it

:14:13.:14:16.

would like to introduce a pay`as`you`go system where xou pay

:14:17.:14:25.

on exit. In Devon at the region s biggest hospital, staff are fighting

:14:26.:14:28.

plans to more than double their parking charges. They're dud to rise

:14:29.:14:34.

to ?2.50 a day, making Derrhford the most expensive of all the l`rger

:14:35.:14:39.

hospitals in the South West. Unions say it'll force people to look

:14:40.:14:42.

elsewhere for work, because they can't afford to pay more. There s

:14:43.:14:45.

now an online petition against the new prices which could come into

:14:46.:14:48.

force next month. Emma Thom`sson reports. Working out the monthly

:14:49.:14:54.

budget. Jenna is a health c`re assistant at Derriford and with a

:14:55.:14:59.

baby on the way, money is thght She said the increase will mean spending

:15:00.:15:02.

half a day's pay on parking every month. It's going to be verx

:15:03.:15:08.

difficult, because me and mx husband both work at the Trust. Therefore

:15:09.:15:12.

that's an extra ?40 to find every month, which we are going to go

:15:13.:15:15.

without, because I'm a shift worker, so I can't get to the hospital any

:15:16.:15:19.

other way or form, because H would have to get two buses and therefore

:15:20.:15:23.

leave really late or really early when buses don't run. But bosses at

:15:24.:15:28.

the hospitals say the chargds have been frozen for the last five years.

:15:29.:15:32.

We do understand that everybody has very specific things in thehr life

:15:33.:15:35.

and car parking needs to fit into that. So it's never going to be

:15:36.:15:44.

popular to increase charges. In fact, it's so unpopular that the

:15:45.:15:47.

unions have launched an onlhne petition. In the first day lore than

:15:48.:15:51.

800 people signed it. We have heard from people who have just h`d just

:15:52.:15:55.

had their rents raised so they can't afford either that or these parking

:15:56.:15:59.

charges and said they will leave the Trust. For a Trust that strtggles to

:16:00.:16:02.

recruit anyway, that is a rhdiculous situation to be in. Most of the main

:16:03.:16:07.

hospitals in the South West have a sliding scale for charges. For staff

:16:08.:16:11.

like Jenna who earn around ?16, 00 a year, the monthly deduction from

:16:12.:16:15.

their salary at the Royal Ddvon and Exeter Hospital is ?15.40. The is

:16:16.:16:21.

halved for using the park and ride. It's ?6.50 at Torbay, ?6.20 in North

:16:22.:16:26.

Devon and ?15.15 at Treliskd. At Dorset County Hospital and `t

:16:27.:16:29.

Musgrove Park there are fixdd monthly fees regardless of what they

:16:30.:16:38.

earn. Charges could also go up for patients and visitors once the board

:16:39.:16:42.

has met at the end of the month Increases are always contentious,

:16:43.:16:45.

but with the strength of fedling among staff here, the hospital

:16:46.:16:54.

certainly has a fight on its hands. There's been a lot of reacthon to

:16:55.:16:58.

the parking stories tonight. On Derriford, Geraldine's been in touch

:16:59.:17:02.

via our Facebook page. She says hospital staff shouldn't have to pay

:17:03.:17:06.

anything to park! Another comment here asks why should nurses and

:17:07.:17:10.

doctors get reduced parking? Normal working people have to pay `t least

:17:11.:17:14.

?2 a day and they earn loads more than normal people on minimtm wage.

:17:15.:17:19.

You've also had lots to say on Cornwall Council getting ?300,0 0 a

:17:20.:17:22.

year, because its parking m`chines don't give change. Leon asks why

:17:23.:17:26.

don't they use the money to repair all the pot holes? Ann says maybe

:17:27.:17:30.

they could cut the cost of parking now? Mark suggested donating the

:17:31.:17:35.

300,000 to local charities. And Roger's been in touch via F`cebook.

:17:36.:17:39.

He says: "Make sure you havd change in the car! If you don't have change

:17:40.:17:44.

you have a choice ` pay a lhttle over the odds or go somewhere else

:17:45.:17:50.

to park!" Onto the sport now and history has been made by Exdter

:17:51.:17:54.

Chiefs over the weekend and Dave's been to Sandy Park to mark the

:17:55.:18:01.

occasion. Exeter Chiefs are celebrating their first appdarance

:18:02.:18:06.

in a cup time as a Premiership club. It is taking place at their home

:18:07.:18:14.

stadium against Northampton. Of course these will be just two of the

:18:15.:18:19.

shirts the players will be wearing in that special occasion. At the

:18:20.:18:24.

12th time of asking, Exeter Chiefs managed to overcome a team they have

:18:25.:18:30.

never beaten in the Premiership In the last minute Bath had thd chance

:18:31.:18:37.

to level the score at 22`22. But they missed the penalty and the

:18:38.:18:43.

Devon club celebrated a rard triumph over them. Their first sips 197 . I

:18:44.:18:51.

live here and to me it is mx backyard. It is nice and I don't

:18:52.:18:55.

think for one minute when wd were asked if we would host it dhd anyone

:18:56.:19:00.

think we would be in the final. But it is for us to make the most of the

:19:01.:19:08.

opportunity. Two tries from the full back set the can have cheeps up for

:19:09.:19:14.

a `` Chiefs up for the final. When you think of where they havd come

:19:15.:19:18.

from the old ground and now being in the final, they deserve everything.

:19:19.:19:23.

We have been waiting a whild. Burr we can't wait. What does it mean as

:19:24.:19:27.

a fan watching your team here on your home ground? It is brilliant

:19:28.:19:32.

that we are actually at homd and in the actual final. It is really good.

:19:33.:19:37.

They will be underdogs against a team who have beaten them twice this

:19:38.:19:42.

season. But their record ag`inst Bath wasn't too good either. It has

:19:43.:19:49.

been a disappointing weekend for the South West's football sides, apart

:19:50.:19:56.

from Yeovil who beat Sheffidld Wednesday 2`0. Miller's two goals

:19:57.:20:03.

sent them on their way. But their relegation rivals all won and keeps

:20:04.:20:09.

Town two points o' away frol safety. Plymouth missed the chance to go

:20:10.:20:14.

into the play offs as they suffered a 2`1 defeat at Bristol Rovdrs.

:20:15.:20:27.

Rovers took the winning points to ensure Plymouth stay two pohnts off

:20:28.:20:32.

the top seven. Exeter City slipped to fourth from the bottom of League

:20:33.:20:39.

Two after they were held by Dagenham and Redbridge. Nichol gave City the

:20:40.:20:43.

Beach is where Agatha Christie used to go for a nice dip. Perhaps she

:21:37.:21:42.

and friends even had a small party there. Isn't it a superb dax for a

:21:43.:21:57.

swim? Yes, darling, let's go and join the waves. Lets! Three, two,

:21:58.:22:09.

one ` yeah! Devon Wild Swimlers did a half mile swim to Shag Rock and

:22:10.:22:12.

back to raise awareness for Sport Relief. Well everyone will `gree

:22:13.:22:18.

it's a good cause, but the camaraderie and fun you get instead

:22:19.:22:22.

of doing a sponsored walk or whatever, this gives you an

:22:23.:22:25.

opportunity to enjoy it as well whilst you're doing some good.

:22:26.:22:33.

Jackie swims in the sea every day. How is the water today then?

:22:34.:22:38.

Stunning. Stunningly cold or stunningly nice? It's perfect. It's

:22:39.:22:46.

beautiful. I don't know if Hercule Poirot ever went wild swimmhng. He

:22:47.:22:55.

probably had more sense! And as the swimmers returned a plot st`rted to

:22:56.:22:59.

form. Archie, darling, I have just had a superb idea for a new novel.

:23:00.:23:04.

It's called Murder on Meadford. What a wonderful idea! I can't s`y I

:23:05.:23:17.

actually remember the book. It looked beautiful. It was like the

:23:18.:23:22.

Mediterranean. But I bet it was chilly. Will the sunny weather

:23:23.:23:28.

continue? The sea temperature is about nine degrees. You would notice

:23:29.:23:34.

that. Yes. We have had tempdratures of 18 degrees through the wdekend.

:23:35.:23:39.

That is good for the first week in March. It is a little bit cooler for

:23:40.:23:44.

today and it is colder later this week. But the main story has to be

:23:45.:23:48.

one of fine and dry weather. That is the message to get across. Some

:23:49.:23:52.

sunshine around, but some chilly nights as well. When you look at the

:23:53.:23:57.

satellite you can see where all the weather is going. It is heading with

:23:58.:24:02.

this line of cloud straight up towards the Faroes and Icel`nd. That

:24:03.:24:08.

is where the low pressure is heading. The reason we are settled

:24:09.:24:12.

is because we have a big arda of high pressure. It doesn't change

:24:13.:24:18.

much for the next few days. It does draw in some cloud tomorrow. We will

:24:19.:24:23.

have more cloud to start with. But it should break up. This is the

:24:24.:24:27.

middle of the week, Wednesd`y, when we remain fine and dry with

:24:28.:24:34.

sunshine. This was the cloud picture from earlier, you can see there

:24:35.:24:39.

isn't a great deal of cloud for much of Devon and Cornwall. For Somerset

:24:40.:24:42.

and Dorset the cloud has bedn thicker and that is heading our way

:24:43.:24:46.

tonight and tomorrow. Tomorrow we could have a cloudy start. But let's

:24:47.:24:50.

take you back to last week. When we had a bit of a different scdne

:24:51.:24:56.

across Dartmoor. Something we don't see often. These picture were sent

in the sky. Today we have h`d some sunshine and a large part of South

:25:12.:25:16.

West has had glorious weathdr today. The sun has been out. Some haze in

:25:17.:25:21.

the air. Just reducing the visibility. But it has been very

:25:22.:25:27.

pleasant and although the sda looks very inviting, the sea tempdrature

:25:28.:25:31.

at the moment is quite a bit down at around nine degrees. And thd

:25:32.:25:35.

forecast tonight, more cloud will come in from the east and blanket

:25:36.:25:42.

emost of the south`west by tomorrow morning. Temperatures down to three

:25:43.:25:51.

or four degrees. Tomorrow, the cloud will be reluctant to move. But it

:25:52.:25:55.

will break up and in the afternoon we will see some sunny spells with

:25:56.:26:00.

temperatures up to 12. A few places might get to 14 degrees. And for the

:26:01.:26:09.

forecast for the Isles of Scilly, a fine and bright day. Just a bit hazy

:26:10.:26:16.

with a brisk north`easterly breeze. There are the times of high water:

:26:17.:26:22.

For surfers the surf will bd clean, but not very big. But a remhnder of

:26:23.:26:34.

the tea temperatures of `` sea temperatures. The winds are from the

:26:35.:26:40.

east, force four or five. And a dry week. After quite a misty start on

:26:41.:26:44.

Wednesday, we will have sunshine again. More cloud though on Thursday

:26:45.:26:53.

and Friday. Thank you. Loving your work! Now just before we go we'd

:26:54.:26:57.

like to tell you about a new series on BBC South West starting tomorrow.

:26:58.:27:00.

It's almost eight weeks since we last had a through train to Plymouth

:27:01.:27:04.

or Cornwall. Yes, the repairs at Whiteball tunnel, followed by the

:27:05.:27:07.

collapse of the sea wall at Dawlish cut off much of the South Wdst. But

:27:08.:27:11.

was the region always so vulnerable? 60 years ago we had alternatives to

:27:12.:27:15.

the coastal line. Now rail bosses have been told to look into possible

:27:16.:27:18.

inland railway routes. We'll explore the options starting tomorrow on

:27:19.:27:21.

your BBC local radio station and on Spotlight with our business

correspondent Neil Gallacher. And a big thank you to everyone who got in

:27:28.:27:32.
