worst hit by the recession. A vintage aircraft has crashed on

:06:22.:06:29.

the runway at RAF cold roast. As we heard earlier a pilot had

:06:30.:06:40.

a lucky escape today at RNAS Culdrose, when his aircraft appeared

:06:41.:06:43.

to lose power and crash landed. The pilot of the Sea Fury

:06:44.:06:46.

escaped without serious injury. We would call this a crash landing

:06:47.:06:58.

rather than emergency landing. You can see the fire engines. You can

:06:59.:07:10.

see the plane from our NAS Yeovilton. Smoke came from the

:07:11.:07:17.

aircraft. It was the penultimate aircraft display at five o'clock

:07:18.:07:19.

this afternoon, and very quickly, the aircraft came down. Freelance

:07:20.:07:25.

photographers took pictures of this, which we have now. We can run that

:07:26.:07:35.

sequence of stills. You can see the engine smoking badly. But its

:07:36.:07:39.

undercarriage does not come down correctly. The undercarriage

:07:40.:07:43.

collapses, and it spins onto the grass, and the pilot, he got out and

:07:44.:07:59.

walked away. The photographer Toby what he saw. A lot of smoke started

:08:00.:08:11.

coming out, on the starboard side, and he seemed to have lost power.

:08:12.:08:19.

There was a lot of smoke. He went straight across the crowd area. So

:08:20.:08:29.

far, there has been no formal communication from the MOD or from

:08:30.:08:38.

the Royal Navy. We will bring you their communication later. But the

:08:39.:08:40.

important thing to say is that no one was injured in this. In

:08:41.:08:44.

formally, naval pilots that were around this afternoon, they said

:08:45.:08:50.

that if you were to crash, that was the textbook way of doing it.

:08:51.:09:39.

Gliding into water. Meet Natasha, she was born with cerebral palsy.

:09:40.:09:51.

There is no stopping this 17`year`old, thanks to this special

:09:52.:09:58.

mechanism. It operates via a tube that she has in her mouth. At

:09:59.:10:04.

present, she is in steering mode, and if Natasha was too sick, she

:10:05.:10:09.

would go to starboard, and if she was to pass we would go to port.

:10:10.:10:17.

Plymouth is the halfway mark in her challenge to sail the entire

:10:18.:10:21.

south`west coast. The hot weather has made it harder. It is hot, but

:10:22.:10:28.

Natasha is suffering. It can get pretty hot. I have had to stipulate

:10:29.:10:35.

that the helmet has come off so we can browser down. She does not like

:10:36.:10:43.

the autopilot! She thinks it is cheating. She would prefer to be in

control. Phil knows who is boss on board. But he is there to supervise.

:11:07.:11:14.

She just loves it. She is hoping that passion will inspire others

:11:33.:11:38.

is going out there is testament to who she is. There is no hiding her

:11:39.:11:49.

parents pride. Even if it is laced with trepidation. It is terrifying!

:11:50.:11:58.

How are you feeling about it? Cool! It is cool!

:11:59.:12:08.

Firefighters in the south west will be involved in a further eight

:12:09.:12:10.

days of strike action in a dispute with the Government over pensions.

:12:11.:12:13.

The Fire Brigades Union is unhappy that its members face the prospect

:12:14.:12:17.

of dismissal if they can't maintain fitness levels up to the age of 60.

:12:18.:12:20.

They're also unhappy at the cut in pension that happens

:12:21.:12:22.

Prison officers say they have no confidence in the leadership

:12:23.:12:26.

Staff at Channings Wood ` near Newton Abbot ` took a vote

:12:27.:12:31.

on the issue after what they claim has been an increase in assaults.

:12:32.:12:34.

The Ministry of Justice says Channings Wood is

:12:35.:12:36.

a "safe and decent" prison with "low levels of violence."

:12:37.:12:42.

Major roadworks are planned on the A38 that will last a year.

:12:43.:12:45.

It's to replace a bridge that has concrete cancer.

:12:46.:12:48.

The work is due to start in the Spring and will involve contraflows

:12:49.:12:51.

and narrow lanes between Marsh Mills and Deep Lane in Plymouth.

:12:52.:12:57.

Lifeguards have released this footage of a young girl being

:12:58.:12:59.

rescued, to highlight the danger of rip currents.

:13:00.:13:03.

She got into difficulty at Chapel Porth near St Agnes yesterday.

:13:04.:13:08.

She's the ninth person to be saved on the beach in recent days.

:13:09.:13:11.

Storms have created offshore sandbanks which allow strong

:13:12.:13:13.

It's been another successful day at the Commonwealth Games

:13:14.:13:24.

for Devon's lawn bowlers, with at least two silver medals guaranteed.

:13:25.:13:27.

In the pool, Plymouth divers Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow have

:13:28.:13:30.

been back in action in the Preliminary round of the individual

:13:31.:13:32.

event alongside England's youngest team member, Victoria Vincent.

:13:33.:13:34.

The first dive in a major games for Victoria Vincent. What a massive

:13:35.:13:58.

opening dive from VV! For VV, as she is known, it was a good chance to

:13:59.:14:06.

dive without pressure. Victoria won the British title in June, and was

:14:07.:14:12.

included in the games following an appeal. She did more than hold her

:14:13.:14:25.

own. Nice dive from Sarah. Tonia Couch has defensive her chances of

:14:26.:14:34.

another medal after finishing with another good diet. The good times

:14:35.:14:39.

keep on rolling for Natalie Moore. She has booked a place in

:14:40.:14:42.

tomorrow's final, meaning she has another silver. Her fiance is

:14:43.:14:49.

looking to get a hand on a medal of his own. He's an action right now

:14:50.:15:03.

against India. There will be another medal for the family. Sophie is part

:15:04.:15:05.

of the women's team. We play of the women's team. We play

:15:06.:15:12.

altogether. We play well as unit, and so we have to play the best

:15:13.:15:17.

bowls we can, and hope we do it. Whatever happens, she is guaranteed

:15:18.:15:20.

to walk away with at least a silver, and maybe a gold. It looks like she

:15:21.:15:32.

may make it a gold medal, because she is leading by 20 points to one.

:15:33.:15:37.

Well, one of the areas where Team England have excelled in

:15:38.:15:40.

Plymouth's John Rudd has played a major part in that success

:15:41.:15:44.

He's just got back from Glasgow and joined us earlier today.

:15:45.:15:49.

John, first of all, many congratulations on a fantastic

:15:50.:15:52.

performance by the team, but let's talk a bit about Ben first of all.

:15:53.:15:55.

Certainly getting up to his name for his region.

:15:56.:16:00.

What did you make of his performance?

:16:01.:16:02.

We knew he was one of the fastest swimmers going into the competition,

:16:03.:16:07.

but these art events where the margins are so small, you never know

:16:08.:16:11.

So to come back with two individual gold medals, and...

:16:12.:16:16.

Breaking the British record in both and the game trickled in by,

:16:17.:16:20.

He comes across as a mild mannered young man.

:16:21.:16:25.

I don't think there was anyone more surprised than him when he

:16:26.:16:39.

His natural persona is to be quiet and very unassuming.

:16:40.:16:48.

How have you worked with him to get him up to this level?

:16:49.:16:51.

What is the training set schedule running up

:16:52.:16:53.

Even for an event that lasts 21 or 20 seconds.

:16:54.:17:04.

He swims nine times a week, he is in the gym a novel lot,

:17:05.:17:08.

he spent a lot of time with the physiotherapist, running him

:17:09.:17:10.

around and trying to make him better in terms of his muscular structure.

:17:11.:17:14.

He has to eat rest a lot, and he has teak consume a lot of food.

:17:15.:17:18.

But he is also doing a degree at University at the same time.

:17:19.:17:21.

So his life is pretty hectic, and he has a lot to fit in.

:17:22.:17:28.

You work with Ben on a weekly basis, but as coach of team England, you

:17:29.:17:31.

So how different is it working with some of those swimmers

:17:32.:17:36.

for a very short time as opposed on a weekly basis?

:17:37.:17:38.

It was definitely a challenge, because we did not have a lot

:17:39.:17:41.

of time to create what we wanted, which was an identity for England.

:17:42.:17:46.

We said right from the outset, we thought Scottish people found it

:17:47.:17:50.

quite easy to feel Scottish, and Welsh people had it easy to

:17:51.:17:54.

feel Welsh, but in this people tend to feel British.

:17:55.:17:58.

We wanted to create something that was an English identity.

:17:59.:18:01.

We have a seven`day preparation camp, at the aquatic centre in the

:18:02.:18:06.

Olympic pool, and we tried to create an identity, to deal part of a team.

:18:07.:18:12.

I conducted one`to`ones with each athlete,

:18:13.:18:17.

By the end of that, we have struck a bond, all of us.

:18:18.:18:24.

We had a great group of coaches working with me as well,

:18:25.:18:27.

We use the time wisely, and by the time we arrived in Glasgow,

:18:28.:18:34.

Part of the team was Liam Tancock from Exeter.

:18:35.:18:40.

He was doing well considering he was coming back

:18:41.:18:43.

Many people had written them off, and one of the people with

:18:44.:18:51.

To win two medals in the individual event, and heat swampy medley relay

:18:52.:18:59.

heat, which meant he also got a gold as part of that relay as well,

:19:00.:19:05.

That is a hell of an achievement to anybody.

:19:06.:19:19.

He is good value to have on the team,

:19:20.:19:21.

He is the old man of the team, and he brings positivity with him.

:19:22.:19:25.

This has been fantastic success for team England.

:19:26.:19:28.

Will you hope to have a role in that in 2016?

:19:29.:19:32.

I would love to be part of convocation is that I'd do not

:19:33.:19:36.

Hopefully, I will still be looking after Rita

:19:37.:19:43.

at that stage as well, but I am sure that we will be involved in Rio

:19:44.:19:47.

I know more competitions beckon, but congratulations

:19:48.:19:52.

Culdrose, when his aircraft appeared to lose power and crash landed.

:19:53.:20:09.

The pilot of the Sea Fury escaped without serious injury.

:20:10.:20:11.

Apart from that incident though it was a day of celebrations,

:20:12.:20:14.

Even before this afternoon's air show started, the crowd was treated

:20:15.:20:41.

this mad display. The aircraft's callsign is golf echo... Gee`whiz.

:20:42.:20:53.

The star of today's show must be this Vulcan bomber. It carried

:20:54.:20:59.

Britain's nuclear deterrent in the 60s, and the pilot today is the man

:21:00.:21:03.

who bombed Port Stanley runway in the Falklands. It has big engines

:21:04.:21:15.

and it is very manoeuvrable. It is a delight to fly. He told me a little

:21:16.:21:19.

earlier on, just before he set off this flight, that most of that noise

:21:20.:21:22.

that we are hearing if the air sucked into those for huge engines.

:21:23.:21:38.

It is an inspiring machine. It is huge. It has an amazing how, and I

:21:39.:21:45.

think that is what people love to hear. The displays are carefully

:21:46.:21:49.

coordinated by the team in the control tower. We have a response

:21:50.:21:55.

worked out minuted by minute. There will be little slippages left and

:21:56.:21:59.

right, but not by much. The important thing is we keep it calm.

:22:00.:22:03.

The howl aim of the date is to put on a safe and enjoyable day for the

:22:04.:22:11.

public. This helicopter is popular for a look around. In the last 24

:22:12.:22:19.

hours, all of the Culdrose Sea Kings are back home. Now they are

:22:20.:22:25.

preparing to return for the sea. It will be nice to get on board. It

:22:26.:22:32.

will be good. It will be good to get back to the grassroots of what we

:22:33.:22:38.

put in force. Back in the air, and the Culdrose whether state fair for

:22:39.:22:43.

aircraft to complete their displays. The Canberra shining in the States

:22:44.:22:49.

afternoon sun. No airshow is complete without what must be

:22:50.:22:53.

Britain's most famous aircraft of all time.

:22:54.:23:08.

The noise on television does not do it justice. Some decent weather

:23:09.:23:16.

there. But things are about to change. Today has been the last

:23:17.:23:20.

decent date. We are turning the corner as we move through this

:23:21.:23:23.

evening and overnight. To much more unsettled weather. It does change

:23:24.:23:28.

substantially. The main area of low pressure of each of the start of the

:23:29.:23:32.

weekend, but it does move out of the way fairly quickly. Expect an

:23:33.:23:35.

improvement. I will come to that in just a second. There will be

:23:36.:23:40.

showers, and the showers will link together to give some more

:23:41.:23:43.

persistent rain. It will be a little bit cooler, too. The showers have

:23:44.:23:50.

just been to the north of us. The line of showers will continue to

:23:51.:23:54.

move up towards Wales. Overnight tonight, some dry weather. Chance of

:23:55.:24:01.

a shower anywhere, but temperatures not as low as they were last night.

:24:02.:24:06.

Still the stream of showers close to the North Devon coast. Overnight

:24:07.:24:12.

tempted will dip down to 14 or 15 degrees, may be lower than that, but

:24:13.:24:15.

tomorrow will be a completely different start of the day compared

:24:16.:24:18.

with what we have seen today. This is what we saw at else may be lower

:24:19.:24:21.

than that, but tomorrow will be a completely different start of the

:24:22.:24:24.

day compared with what we have seen today. This is what we saw at cosmic

:24:25.:24:27.

where we had some cloud. Flora and fauna appreciating the weather, and

:24:28.:24:30.

a lot of the blackberries a lot of the blackberries

:24:31.:24:38.

appreciating it. A few spits of light rain around, but Culdrose was

:24:39.:24:43.

lucky to stay dry. Tomorrow, these pictures may well seem a little bit

:24:44.:24:47.

different. Those are the morning temperatures. Through the day, we

:24:48.:24:53.

have one strand of showers that drifts along the Bristol Channel

:24:54.:24:57.

coast. Coming up from the south`west, a line of much more

:24:58.:25:02.

persistent rain. That is what will give us a bit of wet weather.

:25:03.:25:08.

Little, if any, rain to come in to Dorset, but we do stay largely dry.

:25:09.:25:15.

Note the wind is beginning to change direction. It ill become quite

:25:16.:25:20.

breezy. The temperatures will be breezy. The temperatures will be

:25:21.:25:27.

quite a bit down for most of us. For most of us, 17 or 18 will be the

:25:28.:25:32.

maximum. Wet the sunshine holds on for the longest, 20 degrees. Here is

:25:33.:25:37.

the forecast for the Isles of Scilly. We will find that it is

:25:38.:25:41.

rather cloudy for much of the day. Not much sunshine, and the rain

:25:42.:25:50.

becoming heavier. These are the times of high water.

:25:51.:25:56.

For, the waves are bigger, and they would continue to be bigger, two or
