Good evening. the late news hare on

:00:08.:00:10.

Although the South West esc`ped largely unscathed, high winds

:00:11.:00:12.

at the tail end of Hurricand Bertha caused the closure of the

:00:13.:00:16.

It's the first time in its 33 year history that the huge event at

:00:17.:00:21.

The event is reported to be worth ?30 million to the local economy

:00:22.:00:26.

but this year some traders have lost out.

:00:27.:00:28.

First thing this morning, traders were tying in their stalls

:00:29.:00:43.

It has been really, really windy and really gusty and

:00:44.:00:45.

of course it is just too dangerous for the public to come in hdre.

:00:46.:00:48.

As you guys have seen, the wind is just whipping

:00:49.:00:51.

around down here especially as we are so exposed on the beach.

:00:52.:00:53.

It is a little bit of a disappointment, but at the same

:00:54.:00:56.

There are 40 mile an hour whnds here on the beach today.

:00:57.:01:01.

As you have seen, the surfing village has shut shop,

:01:02.:01:03.

But for the surfers, their passion is chasing storms

:01:04.:01:08.

And someone who regularly does just that is Newquay's own Tom Bttler,

:01:09.:01:12.

competing here in the men's quarter`finals earlier

:01:13.:01:14.

There is a lot of luck kind of of where the waves will pop up,

:01:15.:01:25.

So the worst thing that can happen is that I am just not going to get

:01:26.:01:30.

on the quality waves and thdrefore I am not going to be able to surf to

:01:31.:01:37.

Lady Luck eluded him today as she did thousands

:01:38.:01:40.

The final day's lineup was cancelled due to extreme weather condhtions.

:01:41.:01:44.

Many lost their tents due to high winds overnight

:01:45.:01:46.

Our tent ended up in a field somewhere over there and

:01:47.:01:51.

Halfway through the night, the wind just really picked up and

:01:52.:02:01.

there were tents blowing evdrywhere, tents going over hedges.

:02:02.:02:03.

I think we were the only onds that didn't have any broken poles

:02:04.:02:06.

Although thousands have headed home, the more resilient campers resolved

:02:07.:02:15.

to dig in for a final night on the Atlantic Coast.

:02:16.:02:23.

A group of breast cancer patients from

:02:24.:02:25.

Plymouth have joined forces to show there is life after the illness

:02:26.:02:29.

The women, who are all membdrs of the support group, Bosom Pals

:02:30.:02:32.

Spotlight's Johnny Rutherford has been to meet them.

:02:33.:02:38.

This group of ladies have got together to raise money for the

:02:39.:02:44.

But this is more than just a calendar shoot.

:02:45.:02:53.

We wanted to do something rdally positive to make a difference

:02:54.:02:56.

and kind of give hope to other people affected by cancer and show

:02:57.:02:59.

And make some beautiful images of ladies who are local who have

:03:00.:03:03.

Today's shoot have to be the calendar?s front cover.

:03:04.:03:09.

Everyone in the picture had or is having treatment for breast cancer.

:03:10.:03:12.

And they are all part of thd Plymouth support group, Bosom Pals.

:03:13.:03:17.

We have been through different treatments.

:03:18.:03:22.

Breast cancer has many forms and we have about 50 members now and

:03:23.:03:27.

we have enough experience there to pretty much answer any questions.

:03:28.:03:30.

The shoot is a kind of support itself,

:03:31.:03:32.

Sometimes you did not feel like fun, but that is where

:03:33.:03:42.

the group activities help because it can encourage.

:03:43.:03:44.

I could not have got to this stage of my treatment without humour

:03:45.:03:46.

There is a lot of fun to be had before the calendar

:03:47.:03:54.

Two giant steam engines re`lived the days of the

:03:55.:04:04.

"Old Granite Road" in west Cornwall this afternoon ` recreating scenes

:04:05.:04:06.

Before the First World War, steam power was used to move largd granite

:04:07.:04:13.

blocks from quarries in the area to the monumental works in Penryn.

:04:14.:04:17.

Today, specatators ` here in Mabe Burnthouse ` wdre taken

:04:18.:04:19.

back to a bygone era as the scene of a century ago was re`enacted

:04:20.:04:25.

And finally, while some havd been left counting the cost of

:04:26.:04:28.

the aftermath of Hurricane Bertha, others in the south west have been

:04:29.:04:30.

These kitesurfers and windsurfers were enjoying the

:04:31.:04:35.

windy conditions at Bigbury`on`Sea in South Devon this afternoon.

:04:36.:04:37.

Plenty of people were out enjoying the sunny conditions with

:04:38.:04:41.

the strong wind making it particularly good for kite flying.

:04:42.:04:54.

Especially to swim at a life`guarded beach.

:04:55.:04:58.

We do not recommend to swim anywhere but a life`guarded beach and

:04:59.:05:01.

if anyone's ever unsure then they are more than welcome to cole

:05:02.:05:03.

Well, it's certainly been a bit blustery out there `

:05:04.:05:07.

We have had a fairly blustery day today.

:05:08.:05:11.

The winds are our theme for the weather over

:05:12.:05:13.

They should ease off slightly from what we had today

:05:14.:05:17.

but still a fairly brisk wind throughout tonight and we whll see

:05:18.:05:20.

some showers feeding in through the early hours of the mornhng.

:05:21.:05:22.

Most will be fairly light, we could get the odd heavy one first thing.

:05:23.:05:25.

With all the cloud and the rain though,

:05:26.:05:27.

a fairly mild night with lows of around 13 degrees to 15 degrees.

:05:28.:05:30.

We have got a westerly wind tomorrow fedding

:05:31.:05:34.

There will be some spells of sunshine but it will be `nother

:05:35.:05:38.

Particularly down towards the south coast, here I think wd could

:05:39.:05:41.

So not quite as windy today but still unseasonably windx.

:05:42.:05:46.

And we keep the winds as we go through Tuesday.

:05:47.:05:48.

A mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers.

:05:49.:05:50.

A bit more settled for the liddle of the week.

:05:51.:05:53.

Hello there. With reports of flooding and wind damage in some

:05:54.:06:12.

parts of the UK, hurricane Bertha has certainly left her mark, in one

:06:13.:06:17.

form or another. The low that sperm from her is now pushing its way on

:06:18.:06:20.

to the North Sea and through the night will keep winds strong and

:06:21.:06:23.

gusty across the country. Some lively showers around as well, wins

:06:24.:06:28.

strengthening through northern Scotland and northern England and

:06:29.:06:30.

this wraparound of a weather front could cause some issues tomorrow.

:06:31.:06:34.

Tomorrow begins on

:06:35.:06:35.
