Time for our nightly update on the weather for the week ahead | 0:00:02 | 0:00:05
and a brief hint at what might lie beyond that. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:08
A very mixed weekend out there at the moment, | 0:00:08 | 0:00:10
with some places seeing a lot of rain and sunshine. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:13
It's similar again tomorrow. The sunniest of the weather in the South. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:16
Further showers to come in the North | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
and there will be a blustery wind for many of us, | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
particularly across | 0:00:20 | 0:00:21
Northern and Western parts of the UK. | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
That's where most of the rain will be, | 0:00:23 | 0:00:24
for parts of Northern Ireland, | 0:00:24 | 0:00:26
the far Northwest of England and Wales | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
and Scotland. Through the heart of Scotland | 0:00:28 | 0:00:30
there'll be slow-moving, thundery downpours. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:32
Further South, across England and Wales, | 0:00:32 | 0:00:33
a nice day to come. A breeze but in the sunshine | 0:00:33 | 0:00:36
it'll feel very pleasant indeed - | 0:00:36 | 0:00:37
into the mid-20s across | 0:00:37 | 0:00:38
East Anglia and the Southeast. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
Not as cool as it has been on Saturday | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
across Northern Ireland and Scotland. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
Further blustery showers to come | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
as we go into the night. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:47
The low pressure responsible | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
just gradually drifting away | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
Northwards but it'll leave | 0:00:51 | 0:00:52
a legacy of a few showers into Monday | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
across parts of the North | 0:00:54 | 0:00:56
and West of Scotland in particular. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:57
Further South, furthest away from that low pressure, | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
it's a fine start to the working week. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
Things will improve across Scotland | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
with the showers tending to fade away | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
and most places can look forward to | 0:01:07 | 0:01:09
a decent start to the week. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:10
The wind won't be so strong | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
and, of course, fewer showers around - | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
one or two, as I mentioned, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
across the Northwest of Scotland. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
But in the sunshine | 0:01:18 | 0:01:19
it'll feel pretty pleasant out there - | 0:01:19 | 0:01:21
temperatures widely up into the low to mid-20s | 0:01:21 | 0:01:24
across the South and the East, | 0:01:24 | 0:01:25
and up into the high teens | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
across Northern Ireland and Scotland. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
So that's Monday. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
It gets complicated through this week | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
with initially some weak fronts | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
pushing in from the West. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
What they'll do is pep up the shower activity, | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
noticeably across more Western parts | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
of the UK as we go through Tuesday. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
Some of those showers | 0:01:43 | 0:01:44
could be quite heavy and possibly thundery, | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
whereas further East will hold on to some dry | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
and bright weather for much of the day. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
But more showers on Tuesday compared to Monday. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:54
Temperatures though, in the sunny spells, | 0:01:54 | 0:01:56
again doing pretty well - | 0:01:56 | 0:01:57
up into the low, possibly mid-20s. | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
The highest temperatures | 0:01:59 | 0:02:00
always the further South and East we go. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
But even across Northern Ireland | 0:02:02 | 0:02:03
and Scotland, in the brighter spells, | 0:02:03 | 0:02:05
will reach respectability temperature wise. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:07
By Wednesday, one set of fronts moves away | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
and then we've got more fronts | 0:02:10 | 0:02:11
coming in from the Southwest | 0:02:11 | 0:02:13
threatening more persistent rain later on. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
Ahead of that, again, plenty of dry weather around. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
There will be some showers dotted around, | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
difficult to pin down the detail. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
What we do think'll happen on Thursday, we can see this area | 0:02:21 | 0:02:24
of low pressure crossing the country, | 0:02:24 | 0:02:26
that gives the potential for | 0:02:26 | 0:02:27
some more persistent and heavy rain. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29
The location of that low of course will be critical | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
to where the wettest weather will be. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:33
But watch out for some heavier rain | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
during the course of Thursday. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:36
Now then there's always be warm and very humid air | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
close by on the near continent. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
And it could well be that, as we end the week and go into | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
the early part of the weekend, | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
we could see some of that warm air | 0:02:46 | 0:02:47
affecting the more Southern and Eastern areas. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
It could turn quite hot and humid briefly | 0:02:49 | 0:02:51
but that will only trigger some thunderstorms. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
So that's one to watch. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
After that, it looks as if | 0:02:55 | 0:02:56
Westerly winds will begin to win out, | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
pushing that warm, humid air away | 0:02:59 | 0:03:02
and we're into a fresh, westerly wind. | 0:03:02 | 0:03:04
The showers closest to the low pressure, | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
the best of the sunshine closest to | 0:03:06 | 0:03:08
the high pressure in the South. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:10
So a lot of uncertainty | 0:03:10 | 0:03:11
as we go into the extended period. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
There is a chance that we'll see some pretty warm | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
and humid air coming up across the Southeast for a time, | 0:03:16 | 0:03:19
sparking some thunderstorms, but then they clear through | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
and we're into those cooler, fresher but still unsettled Westerly winds. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:26
I'll give you another update, here tomorrow night. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
When wild animals get sick, it takes radical thinking, | 0:03:34 | 0:03:37
extraordinary medical skills and great bravery | 0:03:37 | 0:03:40
to treat them and save lives. | 0:03:40 | 0:03:42
This is routine for me. The problem is to do it on a rhinoceros. | 0:03:42 | 0:03:45
This is real bionic stuff, it's amazing. | 0:03:47 | 0:03:50
This is the trickiest ultrasound I've ever seen. | 0:03:50 | 0:03:53
I've never seen the scale of this sort of operation before. | 0:03:53 | 0:03:55 |
