Time for our nightly update on the weather for the week ahead

0:00:020:00:05

and a brief hint at what might lie beyond that.

0:00:050:00:08

A very mixed weekend out there at the moment,

0:00:080:00:10

with some places seeing a lot of rain and sunshine.

0:00:100:00:13

It's similar again tomorrow. The sunniest of the weather in the South.

0:00:130:00:16

Further showers to come in the North

0:00:160:00:18

and there will be a blustery wind for many of us,

0:00:180:00:20

particularly across

0:00:200:00:21

Northern and Western parts of the UK.

0:00:210:00:23

That's where most of the rain will be,

0:00:230:00:24

for parts of Northern Ireland,

0:00:240:00:26

the far Northwest of England and Wales

0:00:260:00:28

and Scotland. Through the heart of Scotland

0:00:280:00:30

there'll be slow-moving, thundery downpours.

0:00:300:00:32

Further South, across England and Wales,

0:00:320:00:33

a nice day to come. A breeze but in the sunshine

0:00:330:00:36

it'll feel very pleasant indeed -

0:00:360:00:37

into the mid-20s across

0:00:370:00:38

East Anglia and the Southeast.

0:00:380:00:40

Not as cool as it has been on Saturday

0:00:400:00:42

across Northern Ireland and Scotland.

0:00:420:00:44

Further blustery showers to come

0:00:440:00:46

as we go into the night.

0:00:460:00:47

The low pressure responsible

0:00:470:00:49

just gradually drifting away

0:00:490:00:51

Northwards but it'll leave

0:00:510:00:52

a legacy of a few showers into Monday

0:00:520:00:54

across parts of the North

0:00:540:00:56

and West of Scotland in particular.

0:00:560:00:57

Further South, furthest away from that low pressure,

0:00:570:01:00

it's a fine start to the working week.

0:01:000:01:03

Things will improve across Scotland

0:01:030:01:05

with the showers tending to fade away

0:01:050:01:07

and most places can look forward to

0:01:070:01:09

a decent start to the week.

0:01:090:01:10

The wind won't be so strong

0:01:100:01:12

and, of course, fewer showers around -

0:01:120:01:14

one or two, as I mentioned,

0:01:140:01:16

across the Northwest of Scotland.

0:01:160:01:18

But in the sunshine

0:01:180:01:19

it'll feel pretty pleasant out there -

0:01:190:01:21

temperatures widely up into the low to mid-20s

0:01:210:01:24

across the South and the East,

0:01:240:01:25

and up into the high teens

0:01:250:01:27

across Northern Ireland and Scotland.

0:01:270:01:29

So that's Monday.

0:01:290:01:31

It gets complicated through this week

0:01:310:01:33

with initially some weak fronts

0:01:330:01:35

pushing in from the West.

0:01:350:01:37

What they'll do is pep up the shower activity,

0:01:370:01:39

noticeably across more Western parts

0:01:390:01:41

of the UK as we go through Tuesday.

0:01:410:01:43

Some of those showers

0:01:430:01:44

could be quite heavy and possibly thundery,

0:01:440:01:47

whereas further East will hold on to some dry

0:01:470:01:49

and bright weather for much of the day.

0:01:490:01:51

But more showers on Tuesday compared to Monday.

0:01:510:01:54

Temperatures though, in the sunny spells,

0:01:540:01:56

again doing pretty well -

0:01:560:01:57

up into the low, possibly mid-20s.

0:01:570:01:59

The highest temperatures

0:01:590:02:00

always the further South and East we go.

0:02:000:02:02

But even across Northern Ireland

0:02:020:02:03

and Scotland, in the brighter spells,

0:02:030:02:05

will reach respectability temperature wise.

0:02:050:02:07

By Wednesday, one set of fronts moves away

0:02:070:02:10

and then we've got more fronts

0:02:100:02:11

coming in from the Southwest

0:02:110:02:13

threatening more persistent rain later on.

0:02:130:02:15

Ahead of that, again, plenty of dry weather around.

0:02:150:02:17

There will be some showers dotted around,

0:02:170:02:19

difficult to pin down the detail.

0:02:190:02:21

What we do think'll happen on Thursday, we can see this area

0:02:210:02:24

of low pressure crossing the country,

0:02:240:02:26

that gives the potential for

0:02:260:02:27

some more persistent and heavy rain.

0:02:270:02:29

The location of that low of course will be critical

0:02:290:02:31

to where the wettest weather will be.

0:02:310:02:33

But watch out for some heavier rain

0:02:330:02:35

during the course of Thursday.

0:02:350:02:36

Now then there's always be warm and very humid air

0:02:360:02:39

close by on the near continent.

0:02:390:02:41

And it could well be that, as we end the week and go into

0:02:410:02:44

the early part of the weekend,

0:02:440:02:46

we could see some of that warm air

0:02:460:02:47

affecting the more Southern and Eastern areas.

0:02:470:02:49

It could turn quite hot and humid briefly

0:02:490:02:51

but that will only trigger some thunderstorms.

0:02:510:02:53

So that's one to watch.

0:02:530:02:55

After that, it looks as if

0:02:550:02:56

Westerly winds will begin to win out,

0:02:560:02:59

pushing that warm, humid air away

0:02:590:03:02

and we're into a fresh, westerly wind.

0:03:020:03:04

The showers closest to the low pressure,

0:03:040:03:06

the best of the sunshine closest to

0:03:060:03:08

the high pressure in the South.

0:03:080:03:10

So a lot of uncertainty

0:03:100:03:11

as we go into the extended period.

0:03:110:03:13

There is a chance that we'll see some pretty warm

0:03:130:03:16

and humid air coming up across the Southeast for a time,

0:03:160:03:19

sparking some thunderstorms, but then they clear through

0:03:190:03:22

and we're into those cooler, fresher but still unsettled Westerly winds.

0:03:220:03:26

I'll give you another update, here tomorrow night.

0:03:260:03:29

When wild animals get sick, it takes radical thinking,

0:03:340:03:37

extraordinary medical skills and great bravery

0:03:370:03:40

to treat them and save lives.

0:03:400:03:42

This is routine for me. The problem is to do it on a rhinoceros.

0:03:420:03:45

This is real bionic stuff, it's amazing.

0:03:470:03:50

This is the trickiest ultrasound I've ever seen.

0:03:500:03:53

I've never seen the scale of this sort of operation before.
